Noticed they stopped selling salad rolls due to lack of supplies which was disappointing to see. I ordered the #7 with 3 proteins. Beef, chicken and shrimp. What I was given was very old & discolored, jerky like texture proteins in a bowl. Also the peanut sauce was extremely watered down with zero flavor. Both were so delicious that we barely talked the whole time because of how good it was! Full disclosure: I have never eaten at a Vietnamese restaurant before, so I have nothing to compare this to, but as a newbie to the cuisine I enjoyed it! The only pho I ever tried before this was the frozen pho bowl from the supermarket, and I think once I tried pho at some salad buffet restaurant. Well, I never liked those...but this pho I really liked! The star anise flavor was nice, very delicate and aromatic. It had a decent amount of beef in it, and lots of rice noodles and cilantro and I definitely enjoyed the jalapeño and lime on side. Trying the pho has made me want to try more Vietnamese food! My daughter had the chicken and rice with salad. The salad looks like a cole slaw, (my daughter cannot stand American cole slaw), but this cabbage salad she ate every bite of and said it went great with the chicken and rice. The lady who took our order was very nice and friendly too. Prices are on the high side. But I would definitely come back and try more things. read more

I came for the Bahn Mi Sandwich and I was not disappointed. They have their own version of the sandwich which is a little different, but still tasty. The sandwich has plenty of fresh cabbage, carrot, white onion and cilantro. NO pickled veggies as expected, but the bread has a nice crunch and super soft center (exactly as expected). The chicken was $7.75. They are not currently serving ANY PORK dishes and the beef or tofu version of the sandwich cost a little bit more. Their Pho also has their own unique taste. The broth was tasty but was overpowered by the star anise when dining in (it was way better the next day). The broth was also not as oily or rich as a traditional broth (not a bad thing). I immediately noticed that they do not offer some of the more traditional bits in the pho such as: brisket, tendon, tripe, but they mentioned that they would add meatballs to the meat combo for an extra cost. The "2 meat pho" consisted of shredded chicken breast and what I think was eye round steak. Tasty, just not what I was expecting when ordering the meat combo. They also did not include the side of bean sprouts, fresh herbs jalapenos and lime that typically come with pho (could be a Covid thing?); they did serve it with some on top. Not amazing for the $14+ price tag, but I'm glad I tried it *thumbs up* I would definitely come back for the bahn mi sandwich when I'm in the area! YUM! ***VISIT #2*** Today, I ordered for pick-up when 10 minutes away; staff assured me that it would be ready in 5min if I was close *yes and yes*. Friendly staff with a positive attitude *yay* I order a Chicken Bahn Mi (with a side of jalapenos and cilantro). I came in during lunch rush ~1230 to pick-up my order. Only 1 person at the counter ordering and 1 person in line, but damn.... this staff is working OVERTIME! The guy who is taking orders is filling and refilling soda cups between orders (due to COVID restrictions). The person making the food is also serving food as it's ready (with gloves - due to COVID). I saw a couple of staff walking around back; the staff is definitely doing more work with less resources ~ strange times. I waited in line for 15 minutes to pick-up my Chicken bahn mi order. By the time I got it... I think they ran out of regular bread and used an french hogi style roll instead? *not a fan* It was room temperature and chewy and it was A WHOLE LOTTA BREAD. Not sure what happened. I also noticed that some of the prices went up since my last visit (2 days ago). Still NO PORK being served, substituting the traditional bread and prices have increased overnight. Next time I will call ahead to see IF they have the regular bahn mi bread available and I will not pre-order. I will definitely give them a 3rd try and see what happens... We stopped here on our way down to California for lunch during a long day of driving and had an amazing experience. Lots of options on the menu- hot, cold, meat, vegetarian options, healthy salad etc. FOOD- distinct and unique flavor. I've had my fair share authentic Vietnamese food, and this restaurant's taste was unique. That being said, it was delicious. We ordered pho, vermicelli, a meat combo plate, and fried spring rolls. The combo plate had HUGE portions, and the other two were decent sized and worth the price. Lots of herbs, spices, and less oil than usual (pho). Thick slices of meat that DIDN'T taste frozen. Fresh veggies. The chicken was amazing and the spring rolls tasted handmade. Yummy!! Service- incredible! It's a family owned/run restaurant and the nice man helped us with the menu. Such a friendly and passionate man! He gave us samples of the pho broth and cabbage salad. The food came quickly, too. The restaurant was clean as well. Overall, very positive experience. I really wanted to like the food here. And since I've only tried it once, please take my review with a grain of salt. I ordered the Bun Kho with chicken. Okay, so the presentation was nice, and the flavor was fairly good, but there was very little sauce, the noodles were overly cooked (mushy) and sadly the chicken seemed cooked twice or something, which was very dry and sort of hard. So truly, it was not as enjoyable as I had hoped. However the servers were friendly and pleasant. Since others say it's great, maybe I will try again and order the Pho. Three stars for the overly cooked noodles, twice cooked chicken, and barely any sauce. Five stars for friendly service though! read more

And to the fellow who was angry that there is no sriracha sauce: my friend, sriracha was invented in southern california within your lifetime. It is not a traditional Vietnamese dining option. Don't complain about a business not having your favorite hot sauce, be like Beyoncé, instead. Carry your own! In the last four years since my first review of this place, I have had a lot of terrible Vietnamese food from many other restaurants. It brought me a lot of perspective on what a gem this place is. The ingredients are quality, the balance of flavors is just right. That alone makes it stand out from any other Vietnamese spot I've been to, including some very popular restaurants in the bay area. The ambiance is simple and unpretentious. Not that I would've noticed. The only thing that had my attention on this last visit was the most incredible bowl of pho I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. This place is okay. The prices are high ($13 for beef pho and $6.50 for salad rolls), but they're the only Vietnamese place in town. First, the salad rolls. The rolls themselves were made well, but the key to salad rolls is the sauce. Their sauces were marginal at best and I tried the hot peanut, chili and hoisin sauces. The chili sauce was the best of the bad. The pho was good, but nowhere near the best I've had. The soup spoon came buried in the bottom of the bowl. Not a fan of digging in hot soup in order to consume said soup. Huge chunks of onion and the addition of fried breaded onions on top were not a welcome additions. It tasted more like french onion soup until I got halfway through eating it. Overall, you're safest ordering just the pho. Maybe ask for the breaded fried onions and the soup spoon on the side. read more

I ain't gonna lie... I hoped for good food, and this place was GREAT! Disclaimer, I grew up in the SF Bay Area and I have had my share of Vietnamese food. So, I was shocked to discover that maybe the best Viet. food I have ever had was in little Grants Pass! On another note the staff was especially helpful and friendly. My wife has a legitimate inability to eat gluten and they worked with her to find a better substitute for the peanut sauce that went in the Bun dish she wanted. They even made up a small couple bites just to make sure she liked it! And she really liked it. I got the 2 meat combo, beef and chicken. Comes with rice and a salad. The meat was great. Especially the chicken. I think there might have been a slight coconut something in the flavor. Either way, best food we've had so far in the 14 months since we moved here. read more

Traveling from California to Oregon on a Tuesday afternoon, we stopped by Saigon Xich Lo for dinner at around 6:30pm. The place has both indoor and outdoor seatings. It was not very busy inside. We ordered at the counter and the food arrived quickly. We had 2 chicken pho. Food tasted good, a little on the salty side. The people at the table next to us had some dry noodle with grilled meat that looked delicious! We'll try it next time. We recommend this place for a good meal on your road trip. read more

This food is made with love and gratitude and eating it is joy. I have had the banh mi with both chicken and with pork, I've had it with double meat and standard order. I've had the yellow curry with double chicken. I've had another dish that was a rice noodle and chicken and some veggies, and had it with added salad rolls on top (recommendation of the delightful owner), and I've had the pho, and every single experience has been consistently FABULOUS! If you're looking for bland, blah, mediocre food, don't go here. But if you like food with depth, with flavor, with quality ingredients genuinely made with love, this is where it's at. You order at the counter and the staff has all been super helpful in answering questions, sharing ideas when asked, and just being polite. It's a place where the employees really like their jobs. Sometimes they are a little slow at clearing off the tables, but it's usually been because they're engaged with customers in a way that's not often seen in a food establishment, especially of this caliber. Had a fancy for some Vietnamese food. Found Sai Gon Xich Lo tucked away in Grants Pass Oregon on 7th Street. Were greeted by Yung Hang (1/2 Chinese 1/2 Vietnamese) raised in Vietnam. What a warm reception we got! Ordered the Pho and the Chicken Currie. Absolutely fantastic. I am a Pho aficionado and this has to be one of the best. The Currie was bold and tasty. Yung was making some Coconut Milk Banana Tapioca and offered for us to try it out. Smoooooooth as silk and had a wonderful Coconut and Vanilla taste. A dash of sugar made it all work. We stopped here on a trip to Ashland for a little lunch with the family. If course i got the pho, but they didn't have my usual pho tai.... The had "beef pho". I don't know what type of meat it was but it wasn't the traditional eye of the round and tasted a little gamey and chewy. The broth was fragrant, but was lacking some flavor. The noodles were slightly undercooked, but did the trick. I can't get enough of this place. The food is fast, delicious, and reasonably priced. My favorite is the #4 Goi ga with grilled chicken, one order is 2 meals for me. The #7 Banh mi is great if you have a carb craving to go with your veggies. The bread is perfect. #8 Bun kho is another family favorite. My husband likes the Pho. The spring rolls are hit and miss, sometimes they are the best rolls I ever had, and other times they are average. As long as they don't change their recipes I'll keep going back. read more

If I could give ZERO star I would have. STAY AWAY FROM HERE... Found this place Sat Sept 12th around 7:15pm via online search while passing through as we are horse transporters. Should have just went back out the door when we walked in. 3 teenage workers, 2 male, 1 female. Both males have no masks on. 1 male at register just lifts his t shirt over his mouth. 1 male in kitchen has no mask and was habitually running his hand ( no gloves on) through his hair. He was the cook. We paid up front and also put $5bill and $1bill into tip jar. When order was done, 1 order was made wrong. Was suppose to be a tofu dish but instead has chicken. While waiting I observe the 1male at register no mask or even pull up shirt to cover his mouth/ nose and take order from 2 teenage customers with no masks on. Seem to know each other well. So I was becoming more uneasy about the hygiene QC here so when the order was made wrong I simply asked for a full refund. The male register worker didn't seem to understand why I was not happy with the order being made wrong when he acknowledged that I was correct that the order was supposed to be tofu. I'm a vegan. He then tells me that if I just eat it he promises it will taste great. SMH... We paid $19 and some change. He only refunds $19 even. Then does not allow me to take back the $5/$1 bill tip he clearly saw my buddy put into the tip jar as he Thanked my buddy when it was dropped in there. Then the female gal yells at me paraphrasing " never come here". I ask her "are you the owner" In her anger she thinks I wanted to fight her but the male had to tell her what I said and it was not what she thought. SMH... I sure hope there was a video camera in there which will show all this and that I never raised my voice and just calmly walked out. Not most clean establishment I've encountered. The Pho noodle soup had great broth, but I am used to getting the basil, sprouts, jalapeño, and lime on a separate plate, not added by the kitchen. No extra plate. OMG!!!!!! So happy to have stepped into this place for lunch. Passing through to Bend on the last leg of our Only Hell Yes trip and needed some warming food. This place is freakin awesome.
