I wanted pancakes for breakfast and so many of Grant's Pass's restaurants didn't open up early enough for me. I think the Wonder Bur opens at 7 every day. I asked if the coffee was any good. "Yep". Lie - Mcdonald's makes better coffee. Don't knock McDs unless you've tried theirs. The waitress did go out of her way to provide hot water so I could thin the tar. In general THE 2, 2 & 2 breakfast was satisfying. I couldn't finish eating the two pancakes they were so big (& also only OK on favor), my two over easy eggs were incredibly yummy and for my two pieces of pig I went with bacon. That was a mistake on my part. I only sampled the bacon since I'd totally pigged out at an brunch buffet eating half a dozen rashers only the day before. TRULY a hidden gem of grants pass. Our server Chris was amazing and very attentive. The bruschetta was simply so refreshing and delicious! The baguette was perfectly lightly toasted. My partner got the ribeye rare and it was SO SO SO GOOD. He gets it often everywhere and I tried it as well. Truly perfection. I got the creamy basil pasta with garlic shrimp. The pasta was loaded with parm, basil sauce and chopped basil. It was so good. Overall the experience here was delightful and has been added to our list of places to visit when we come back to town. REVIEW FOR THE Cafe: Small portions make this place overpriced for what it is. The lunch entrees come with seasoned fries which are really tasty *yum* There are substitution options , but they all come with an UPcharge. To substitute a very petite side salad = +$3 and definitely not worth the substitution. I would not come here for the salad, the portion was downright stingy. The ranch dressing is good *thumbs up* The Ahi Tuna Sandwich was a nice option, but ended up being a dry eat. Maybe more aoli or wasabi mayo on the bun (?). It just ate really dry. The ahi tuna was cooked perfectly seared on 4 sides and remained pink in the center. NOT a $16 sandwich in any reality. NOTE: I just looked back at the menu, it was completely missing the avocado which explains why the sandwich was so darn dry. Also, the "terra sol greens" listed on the menu is just a pinch of bag-o-spinach from Winco. I'm impressed with the marketing *lol* We ordered other entrees during lunch. They were all fine, just not filling and not a value; the menu descriptions really hype the expectation. Service was sub-par. We found out as we were trying pay/leave that there was a staff meeting that our waitress had to go to mid-service. A server from the bar (other side of the brick wall) was supposedly "covering her shift" while our original waitress was in the meeting. The bar server brought us our order and we never saw her again *oh well*. I'm glad we tried it, but the prices were high for the portions we received. Lack of service was evident and had a noticable negative impact on our experience. The food could have been fixed if we a server to help us make some adjustments. Start with the bad. Flies were terrible. Server had the personality of a rock until her kid came in and then it was like a day care. Seriously... Took way too long to get food. We preferred the chicken fried steak and the steak breakfasts. Red potatoes looked delicious, hash browns were meh. Maybe it's me, but I just feel that hash browns should be cooked crispy on both sides. This avoiding the soft side of this side dish. Sour dough bread, as usual wasn't sour. It's nice to offer sourdough, but if it isn't sour then it's just white bread. Chicken fried steak is the frozen type, it was tasty, but nothing to rave about. Gravy on top seemed to be homemade?? Not really sure. Steak was supposed to be medium rare, it was served with no pink. It was still juicy and tasty, just to as ordered. Will we be back, it's not likely it will be a regular go to. No one greeted us until the bartender ran thru the opening and explained that the only server was on her lunch break. He then tried so hard to help us but clearly this was not his jam. We finally ordered and it took 50 minutes to get our food. The bartender kept awkwardly stopping by to explain all the reasons we weren't getting our food but kept promising it would be amazing. It was not. The French dip was clearly days old dried out meat that was left uneaten. The small order of fish and chips was gummy and undercooked and had zero flavor. It smells like the memory of cigarette smoke on carpet from the 70's and it's serial-killer-dimly-lit with a single pool table and gaming machines that add an eerily upbeat background noise to the wood paneled fog of good times past. The drinks are STRONG. My vodka/club soda/lime was even more rubbing alcohol-flavored than usual... maybe because the club soda was flat and the lime was puny and listless. But that's not really a complaint. I drank it happily, enjoyed the buzz, and couldn't be happier with the small price tag. The staff was friendly and gregarious, but here's my question: is it just an Oregon thing that makes me seriously wonder whether folks are spun out on crank??? One of the best home style breakfast joints we've been to while road tripping. Not fancy by any means but if you are looking for good, wholesome comfort food and value, this is your place. Homemade biscuits and gravy- excellent. The bacon was super thick and flavorful, our favorite part of the breakfast! Service was great. The cafe is small, eight booths and two tiny tables, and seems stuck in the mid-twentieth century--even the prices (plus no plastic cash taken). I got two eggs, two sausage links and two pancakes with coffee for less then $8. The food was ordinary but cooked to perfection. This is an easy place to pass by, especially the adjoining lounge that presents a sold blank wall and door to customers. The cafe side of the bar/diner combo has been feeding the people of Grants Pass since the 50's, and the bar side has been hosting the comunity think-tank dince the end of proabition. As a landmark,the owner's strive to keep prices as low as possible, and still keep some local heritage alive for a new generation. When I visited here 20 years ago, the Wonder Bur was my mother in laws favourite place to eat. I always remembered it and was thrilled to see it was basically the same unchanged. read more

RUDE and NASTY ATTITUDE AT THIS SO CALLED CAFE! A family member who lives in this area took us there last week while we were vacationing. I heard that the waitress and the cook are the owners (a couple). She was rude and very unhappy. When I asked the waitress for help on the menu she ignored me so I asked the cook. He snapped at me and screamed at me, "Talk to the waitress, what is wrong with you, talk to her, duh!" I was so stunned, I left, my family followed. I thought I was in an altered universe. They acted as though we were unwanted, a inconvenience to them. Also, they were bickering with each other so loud the other table and ours could hear. Lame. Seems like guys think they came to a boxing ring to fight when they go there. They also tend to get beligerent after a few stiff drinks. Known by the locals as the Blur. Incredibly large and stiff drinks. Definitely on the top of the scale in this department. A friend of mine dared his buddy to try to drink $25 worth of drinks in this place. The kid couldn't do it. If someone wants to try to meet that challenge, you best plan on calling a taxi and having a wicked hangover. Very old school. Very casual. I have no idea about the cafe part of this place. A dive bar with great local flavor. This is most definitely the sort of place that hung an effigy of a spotted owl with a target on it in the 90's. Bartender, I assume the owner was nice enough and even gave my friend a 2 for one because it was her birthday. They have a pretty beat up pool table but the cues are straight and it only costs 25 cents! And people are right, the drinks here are strong! I ordered a whiskey water and it was about 3.5 oz whiskey and a table spoon of water.
