Tasty Vietnamese place on Hastings. This place used to be Mr. Red. Parking is available on the side streets. There are also metered streets on Hastings. Place looks pretty modern, with the wooden trim and tiled walls. Bit of a hipster feel with the shelves and plants. Staff were friendly. No complaints. I tried their Saigon knocking noodle soup (Hu tieu go Sai gon). Basically pork (instead of beef) pho with pieces of deep fried pork rind. Nice and tasty, though the portion was a bit smaller than expected. Broth is clear. Served with plenty of green onions, and some bean sprouts and black pepper. Pricing is a bit higher than the competition. There are also options to add additional meet (such as pork ribs) for a few bucks more. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point, though there are quite a few other places along the same stretch.

Very nice menu + complementary tea!

Came for their soft opening that had a limited menu but 30% off everything! The restaurant is newly opened by an ex-Lunch Lady chef. We got the Truffle Cha Gio, Hu Tieu Saigon, Softshell Crab, Grilled Baby Octopus, and Bo Luc Lac. Everything was really great. The cha gio was my favourite. It was really juicy and truffle was a nice touch. I usually don't like cha gio that's not homemade, so this is high praise! The Hu Tieu Saigon was really good as well -- a very simple but well done dish. Tastes just like at home. My mom often makes this dish and it's on par in my opinion. The only thing I didn't like was the pho noodles -- not my preferred texture. The soft shell crab with the chili sauce was really good but I do wish the sauce had a little more punch to it -- either spice or flavour. It was a little light to me. The garlic bread that came along with it paired well. The baby octopus is very similar to a dish I've had at Lunch Lady. It comes with a sweet citrusy dip that complements it really well. I think my octopus was a little overcooked though as they weren't as tender as I was expecting for my soft mouth. The only dish I was disappointed with was the Bo Luc Lac. It doesn't have flavour you would expect from an average bo luc lac. The gravy was too Western for my taste. The salad was good but didn't really pair well with the steak. The dauphinoise was too small to enjoy with the amount of steak you get. However, the steak was cooked well and I could see some folks liking the flavour. It just really wasn't for me. The service here is extremely friendly and quick. The ambiance feels relaxed and casual.

A newer restaurant that took over Mr. Red, so evidently had big shoes to fill. This restaurant deserves credit though, for their innovative dishes and use of ingredients to put a twist on traditional Vietnamese cuisine. I came on a Sunday evening and it was very slow, hopefully business picks up for this spot as I found the food relatively good and tasty! Saigon Chicken Wings (3/5) - $14.95 Taste: Salty sweet chicken wings, not the juiciest, but not dry either. Portion Size: 5 pieces Sate Octopus Skewers (4/5) - $12.95 Taste: Mini octopus had a nice charred flavour to it and I liked the dipping sauce which was a refreshing sour contrast that paired well. Portion Size: 2 skewers - small Truffle Crab Spring Rolls (4/5) - $14 Taste: Wood ear mushroom complemented the truffle crab flavour well. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Portion Size: 2 spring rolls cut into 4 pieces - small Stir Fried Beef Rigatoni (3/5) - $21.95 Taste: I really enjoyed the beef in this dish, it was cooked medium rare, juicy, and flavourful with a hint of sweetness. The reason why two stars was taken away was because the rigatoni pasta was served quite dry. Portion Size: Entree for 1 person Saigon Luc Lac Steak (4/5) - $28.95 Taste: Steak was cooked quite well and tasted rich in flavour with the peppercorn sauce. The potato dauphinoise was flaky and buttery and the slaw salad pairing was light and refreshing! Portion Size: Entree for 1 person [Value for Money] The menu needs to be revisited - for the price point it felt like the portion sizes should have been bigger or the prices need to be lowered. It's hard to compete when you've got much more affordable Vietnamese options around the neighbourhood!

The space is much nicer, with high ceilings and lots of light - great looking bistro. I ended up trying the following: - Mussels: Very good. Classic dish, but I really like the use of cream in the broth. - Bánh Mì Cay Hải Phòng (Spicy Baguette Sticks): Good. A nice little snack, although it would be easy to recreate at home. - Lamb Chops: Very good. Cooked just right, and the pepper sauce added extra flavour. - Fried Frog Legs: Very good. This was probably the surprise dish for me. They weren't just the legs, but the entire bottom of the frog, so the pieces were huge. The garlic, butter and chili flakes gave it a extra punch. I really enjoyed this one. - Pho Bo: Good. Not the best pho I've had, but it's good enough to stand on it's own. Service was quite good. Very cheerful and quite attentive. Overall a nice meal. It's a great space, the food is solid, and service to match. What I really like is having the variety of both French and Vietnamese dishes, without either of them suffering in quality. Only downside is that is it expensive for what you get.

The menu isnt big but they do have a reasonable selection of items but mostly dinner entrees We ordered a mini version of pho bo (beef broth pho), french escargot and the spicy baguette stick. The bone broth was good and the price for the mini version is good for a light lunch. We both enjoyed the spicy baguette stick with the pork pate. A pleasant surprise. However i find the escargot a bit pricey with the quantity and the way it was prepared. Slightly too oily to my personal prefence The iced vietnamese coffee we ordered tasted similar to a regular iced coffee, missing the sweet condensed milk flavor for a vietnamese coffee

Went in for lunch with my granddaughter, both of us fans of Vietnamese food. Ordered Green Papaya Salad ($12), Lemongrass Chicken on Vermicelli with one spring roll ($17), one lime soda ($6.50) and one pop ($3). Food arrived within minutes of ordering. Portions were very generous. The salad was perfect with everything very fresh, as it should be but often isn't in some places. Plump prawns and the scent and taste of basil was prominent. Delicious! The lemongrass chicken (we ordered extra chicken) with a spring roll was also very generous. We did not finish it between the two of us. Again, all was fresh, tasty and hot. This is one of our standard orders and Pho Goodness did not disappoint. Granddaughter declared it better than at our regular favourite, and Pho Goodness is around the corner from her home and not a bus ride out to Kingsway! Service was friendly and responsive. We asked that the volume be turned off on the massive TV over our heads (which nobody was watching) (it was), requested a glass for the pop and immediately received a tumbler full of ice. Lovely. We have found a new favourite on Davie Street, a true foodie heaven with a collection of independent restaurants of many ethnicities available. We will return to Pho Goodness when the urge for Vietnamese food strikes again.

My wife and I stopped in for dinner one evening and each ordered the aforementioned noodle soup--she got a small ($11.75 plus tax) and I got a regular ($12.75 plus tax). We also got an order of salad rolls ($7.50 plus tax), which comes with 2 rolls. The rolls came quite late. They were pretty standard, coming with fried tofu, vermicelli, and lettuce. The peanut dipping sauce was on the liquidy, salty soy sauce side of things -- I wish it were creamier and less salty. 3/5 The soups were decent. The broth was peppery, with some nice, gentle spices detectable in there. I asked for a side of chili oil, which helped amplify the broth. You get a generous portion of noodles, fried tofu, and vegetables (broccoli, bok choy, carrot). Unfortunately the veggies were quite overcooked -- the broccoli was almost soggy, so were the carrots and bok choy. 3/5 All in all, middle-of-the-road veggie pho. The broth is pleasant. The veggies were overcooked, but plentiful and nicely chosen. Decent place for veggie pho.
