This is a great way to experience a Seattle sunset. My friends and I decided to do a sunset sail and was impressed with the overall experience. This sailing was 2 hours long and the stays within Elliott Bay. Sailing Seattle has a fleet of 3 yachts. We were on a their largest vessel, S/V Obsession. This ocean racing yacht was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and was built for training US America's Cup teams. This yacht can accommodate up to 48 passengers and has a total length of 70ft. We boarded from Pier 56 and settled in for the 2 hour narrated journey. Boarding was seamless. The yacht has some non-slip surfaces and grab handles to help with balance and traction. Seats are first come first serve. After a brief safety demonstration on life vests, we set off on our sunset sail. This experience was further enhanced by their BYOB rule. We were allowed to bring our own snacks, wine, and beer. Our sailing path weaved in and out of ferry lanes and we completed some sharp turns, really showcasing the agility of the yacht. We pulled in after sunset providing everyone a beautiful nighttime view of downtown Seattle and waterfront. Service was fantastic. The crew was friendly and efficient. My biggest recommendation when doing the sunset cruise is to layer up (sweater/jacket) or even bring a nice blanket. read more

As a local to Seattle, I have to admit: when a friend suggested a summer boat cruise around Elliott Bay, I thought: "I've done this 1 million times, why do I need to do it again? This sounds so touristy!" In reality, we were so fortunate to find Sailing Seattle. For about $45 (including a $5 local's discount!), we got two hours on an uncrowded, very chill sailboat around Puget Sound. The crew was informative and laid-back, you can bring food and beverages on board, and overall, the vibe is just very chill. (Read: this is not your grandma's silly, touristy chug around Seattle!) The icing on the cake was that we had a friend who last minute wasn't feeling well and wasn't able to attend. After the boat ride, we went up to the little information booth and asked if they would give us a discount towards a future tour. We started by ubering down to the Waterfront and getting oysters at Elliot's Oyster House next-door first, then walked over a few minutes before our sail. We sat on the front right and it was an amazing view of the city skyline on the way out and of the mountains on the way back. We brought sandwiches and wine because it's BYOB and snacks. What a beautiful evening. The weather was in our favor, and while that's out of the company's control, it's still worth mentioning. Smooth water, my favorite cloudy sunny skies, low wind, but enough to fill the sails and we were on our way. The crew was delightful, super laid back and funny. The other passengers seemed to really enjoy themselves, it was such an absolutely chill, good feeling time on the boat. The smooth water and expert sailing allowed us to walk around easily so we could eat up every angle of the stunning view. We went for the sunset cruise so it did get chilly toward the end despite pants and coat, and when we were offered snuggly coats we took them happily. It's a great experience if you want a romantic moment or a laugh puddle with your friends. My cohort ordered the tickets from Viator and he said the prices weren't too shabby and the process was super easy. When we located the booth, it was simple to find, the attendant was more than friendly, and after toodling around the shops and grabbing a bite to eat, we hopped on board with plenty of time to spare. Chartered a private sailing trip for some VPs in town with my team and we had an amazing time. I'd recommend bringing a light sweater because even though it might be 85 in the city, it does get windy and a bit chilly on the boat. We heard about an orca sighting so the captain decided we should check it and it was one of the greatest sailing trips i've been on. We were probably following them for about an hour (within the legal distance) and everyone had a great time. Would recommend! read more

This is a boat ride pure and simple and well FUN! They have two sailboats and they seem to let you distribute yourselves among the ships. I think my sailboat had fewer passengers. This is not a tour boat so there are no formal seats or guided discussion. You are on a real sailboat and enjoying the ride. We sat in the back by the wheel and even though it was a warm day it was a little chilly once we got out there. They had jackets and blankets and the deckhand brought these out as we asked for them. As previously mentioned you are free to bring your own food or drink or not. I did not see any cups or service items so you would need to bring everything in your picnic basket or small cooler. That said there is a small bathroom on the boat. You have to go below deck and I don't remember much about it except it did not smell and you had to watch your step while going below deck. There was a cute child of about 10 and he hung out with the captain and he was allowed to steer the ship and ask questions. That was a joy to watch and overall we had a wonderful time enjoying the Seattle skyline as the sun set. We did see some loud seals on some kind of barge but no whales or dolphins. read more

We went in early September so it got a little chilly but we only needed light jackets. There was a head on board but it was tight (as expected and it was super clean). There was tons of space on the boat to sit comfortably. We saw the resident pod of orca whales which was awesome. The sunset was beautiful and classically hazy in true Seattle fashion. Came here yesterday with my hubby and it was great. The customer service was amazing and the employees on our sailboat were so nice and made conversation with everyone. They have bathrooms on the boat and you can even byob. My only complaint is the website said parking was free. It made it sound like they had there own parking lot and they dont. the emailed receipt said arrive 20 minutes then said to arrive 15 minutes minutes early. 40 dollars later for parking ....(that sucked) Other than that it was a great time read more

Want to get out on the water but not be a touristy knob? Get yer land lovin' booty on this boat and enjoy a 1.5 hour sail to see the skyline and the mountains. Yes, you board at Pier 56 in the thick of touristy stuff, but that is where the docks are, after all. Forgot your jacket? They have loaners and blankets. Forgot a few bucks cash for a tip? Don't be that guy or gal. Tip your crew it's the right thing to do. I loved this trip because it was chill, didn't take up my entire day and you can bring your own snacks and bevy of choice while tooling around on the stunning Puget Sound. You feel like you are sailing on a yacht - because you are! Highly recommend you leave your little ones at home. Just kidding, you can bring them if you must. You might see whales and seals. This is such a fun thing to do for a special occasion, or when friends are in town! I have done the 2.5hr sunset sail twice, and have been pleased with both experiences. You get to see the skyline without having an annoying tourguide talking the entire time. This is not a guided tour whatsoever. The distance that you go is definitely depended on the wind. The second sail we did went a significantly farther distance than the first. I'd definitely recommend wearing a thick jacket/windbreaker and bringing a blanket. They have some blankets on board but they aren't very warm. Bring your own drinks/snacks!!! We bring appetizers and wine (no glass allowed) along for the ride. I'd suggest getting in line early and sitting in the back - it's more comfortable especially when the boat is sideways. read more

Two great features: This NOT a guided tour with constant announcements. Once you buy your ticket, they don't try to sell you ANYTHING. The crew was friendly, helpful and happy to answer questions. They had blankets, even jackets, that they shared. A "sold-out" sail of about 25 people didn't feel crowded at all. TIPS: Bring some layers; the air can get chilly on the water. Sit in the back if you are older and need to move your legs a bit. Bring some cash to tip the crew on your way out. Leave the overcrowded waterfront behind... This is a wonderful, quiet ride with views of downtown, Mount Rainier and all that makes Seattle so appealing. You can talk, sip some wine (BYOB) and enjoy the views. read more

The 2.5 hour Sunset Sail was a gift from some friends of ours. We scheduled it to be an extension of our wedding anniversary that occurred two days before. We've never done anything like this before so excitement was in the air along with the salty breeze. One couple, though wasn't so lucky. They arrived while the boat was pulling away from dock. Helpful Hint: do what we did and check with the person at the ticket counter so that you know how long before the sail to line up. We waited a little bit too long and had to stand at the end of a long line. But once you're on the boat, there are still great places to sit or stand. My wife and I chose to sit on top of the covered, folded up life rafts. Next time, though, we'll arrive a bit earlier to get a better place in line. It had been a beautifully clear and hot Saturday afternoon which segued into a beautiful, warm--if occasionally chilly--summer evening sunset with an incredibly beautiful sky. The cruise was sold out with a total of 28 passengers on board. There were two young male crew members on board, one to pilot the boat and one to take care of the passengers and to help move the huge sail around. Passengers are invited to bring their own food and beverages to enjoy during the sail but my wife and I had already eaten an incredible meal and enjoyed some delicious cocktails at a nearby restaurant about an hour or so beforehand. The pilot sent us out onto Elliott Bay under engine power but since the winds were blowing strongly once we got out into open water he killed the engine and just let the wind blowing against the sail propel us over the water. The crew member taking care of us all was great at letting us know which side of the boat dipped down toward the water so that we could opt to sit or stand on the opposite side riding higher over the water. He also provided blankets for those of us getting chilly when the winds were blowing strongest in the middle of the bay. Interestingly, the weather warmed up considerably while we were "resting" inside Blakely Harbor at Bainbridge Island and as well as nearer to the sailboat dock at Pier 56. The least enjoyable part of the cruise was all the time we stayed in that Harbor but I figure it doesn't take 2.5 hours to sail across the bay from Pier 56 and back with the route they've chosen to sail so they had to use up the time somehow. But I don't in any way want to minimize the exhilaration of sailing while sitting on the deck of large sailboat nor the beauty of the bay and the sky during late afternoon to sunset. What I greatly enjoyed was that what I had envisioned beforehand what I would see actually came true. It was all as I had pictured it. Also, we never interacted with the pilot but the guy overseeing the passengers was very friendly and displayed a great sense of humor. I read there's a full kitchen below deck but, really, do you REALLY want to cook on (what I figure is) a propane gas stove while bouncing over rough, choppy waters with the sailboat leaning at a 45 degree (or whatever) pitch as the winds blow against the sail? I wouldn't. The Sunset Sail is an extremely romantic way to spend an evening, whether it's to cap off a great dining experience or to work up an appetite for dinner yet to come, or to simply just as a standalone experience. At $52 a person it's a bargain for the entertainment, the peace of mind, and the joy of skating across the bay watching a gorgeous Pacific Northwest summer sunset unfold before you. My wife and I plan on repeating this joyful experience again sometime. read more

Come sail away with me! Sorry, it had to be done. This is a great way to spend a quiet and peaceful few hours. You can get on the 70' retired racing sail boat for only $25 for two people and sit on the bow while the skyline moves by. I spent 3 hours on the boat today and we went around by West Seattle, over toward Queen Anne, and right up next to the piers at the Edgewater. The seas were peaceful and the skies were warm and sunny. I sat and sucked in the sea air, soaking up the beauty and watch the cruise ships steam out of the harbor. It was a wonderful quiet way to reflect. If you're more social, you can sit in the stern of the "Obsession" and chat with the two crew members and other cast aways (mostly tourists) that happen to ride. There were 3-4 customers other than me. Both the crew members were friendly and good at small talk. They had lots of interesting things to say to novices about sailing and pointed out seals when we passed them. Apparently you can rent the boat out privately too. read more

This is such a cool service! I always take my dad here to get his sailing fix on when he comes to visit. It's $30 for an adult to take a 1.5 hour cruise around the Bay. You don't go too far out, it's only an hour and a half, but you see enough of the sights and you get such a cool alternate perspective on the Seattle skyline. This isn't a guided tour but I think that is a selling point. The deck hands are eager to chat if you want to but if you choose you can just take a quiet sail and take in the sights without a loud Argosy motor or an obnoxious duck tour operator. Even if it is nice and sunny you should bring a wind breaker, it's surprising how much cooler it is once the boat gets going. If you show up early and get in line first you can get a seat in the cockpit, otherwise you can sit up on top or on the sides of the boat. It may seem a .little scary at first but don't miss out on walking up on the deck while the boat is moving, you feel very secure once you get on your feet. They do have toilets on board in case you're worried about a lengthy cruise on the water but I have never had to use them. The best feature I think is that you can bring your own food, beer and wine. We picked up piroshkys and cookies from the market and had lunch out on the water. read more

Not worth the money of time. I am literally writing this review as I am on the boat sailing because that's how bad it is. 1. They pack out the boats so expect to be crammed in with a ton of other people. You may have to sit at the front of the boat (not an actual seat). Depending on where you sit, your view may be obstructed by the large sail but you won't be able to switch seats because every part of the boat will be taken up. 2. I understand this is not a guided tour but the crew was the laziest I have ever experienced. Besides the captain, there is one other deckhand who spent 95% of the time we were sailing EATING HIS OWN DINNER in the corner of the boat. After opening up the sails, he immediately sat in the back corner of the ship and begun his feast in isolation. Never mind all the patrons crammed onto the boat who needed glasses, blankets, or assistance getting up and moving about. I spent about an hour at the front of the boat waving trying to get his attention. Not only was it annoying but it seems like a safety issue that there was no crew member paying attention to the patrons that were at the front of the ship. 3. Bring your own cups- I had to ask three times before I got one. 4. Spend a little extra and go with a real professional service. Only pro- got some cool pictures. read more
