Tbh i'm kind of disappointed in this being my first experience and it being so... underwhelming? I visited this location with my family (4 of us total) and as soon as we were seated it was all very rushed. The waitress asked if it was our first visit and we said yes but she was already asking for beverage orders which was slightly off putting. That kind of set the tone for the entire night just being rushed or cut off while talking. Towards the bottom half of our visit our waitress started to chill out a bit more which was appreciated but useless at that point lol. The food itself was less flavorful that I had hoped sadly. The lasagna could've had more spice for my taste personally, the tomatoes were a saving grace but not saving THAT much for me. I'd probably try something else if I came back again. Mary's roasted chicken was good but I felt like something was missing idk. The lighting is slightly bright than their neighbor, JOEYS. Which i prefer in order to see my food. They have mostly indoor seatings and limited outdoor seatings as well. The menu offers variety of American style, like an upgraded bar food if that is your preference. The food, the oysters were fresh and sweet. The fish and chips were fried to a golden crisp but not overly fried. The drinks were very decent. All the orders were served within timely manner. We had a terrible first-time experience for dinner at Saint & Second. The service was just bad from the start. We arrived promptly for our dinner reservation, but yet we still had to sit and wait for another 10 minutes even though there were obviously tables open. Took a long time for our server to come to us initially. And then the worst part... we waited for 1 entire hour to get any food! We're not even exaggerating, we ended up being so hangry and we couldn't even find our server to ask what the deal was (we think he was hiding from us). There was a table that sat down next to us AFTER we had already been seated for 20+ minutes and even THEY got their food before we had ANY! Finally when the food came out, we were served the mains first! So we finished the lobster risotto, fish and chips (I didn't like it), and steak frites first, and then our caesar salad and parker house rolls arrived! It was very off having this order reversed. And as an "apology" they said they gave us 1 extra roll making it 4 rolls instead of 3, so each of the 4 of us would get a roll. Yes, the bread was good, but we ended the night with it which was just odd. And this was the only form of apology we received from the night after this terrible experience! Gio was helping us and he was extremely friendly and professional. The turkey dinner was great and had everything you'd want in a thanksgiving meal. Everyone should start adding mushroom to mac & cheese- the umami from the mushroom really complements this old standby. Don't pass on the spicy tuna on rice. It was our first time at Saint & Second, and unfortunately our last. The ambience of the restaurant was nice, but we were placed in a small private area next to another table. The two ladies next to us were very loud, so we were forced to listen to their conversation the whole dinner and the smokey pork chop that one of the ladies ordered had a firewood smoke coming off it, which caused my son to have an allergic reaction. Believe it or not I'm actually not complaining about that. My disappointment was more centered around the food and the service. I asked our waitress, Mary what was really good on the menu and she suggested the salmon. I know we all have different taste, so with that being said Mary and I do not have agreeable taste. The salmon was very dry and had no seasonings. It came with oily bok choy, pink grapefruit, and black rice. The only thing with some flavor was the black rice and grapefruit. The price was $38. She offered to get me something else but honestly I had lost my appetite and just wanted to leave. Mary seemed to be stretched then and I ended up asking other staff members for help when we needed it. She was accessible though for the two ladies sitting next to us. I went to this restaurant last night with my wife, two kids, and in-laws, and it was not cheap. Bill after tip for the six of us $356 and we only ordered one alcoholic beverage. Yikes. The food was very average. My son and I ordered the burger and short ribs and my kid was excited to eat the short ribs because I told him this is great meat that just separates with a fork, well, not here. We had to use a knife as the meat was not as tender as it should have been. And, the burger, so much salt that my kid and I couldn't even eat half of it. Did I mention $13 for three Kings Hawaiian rolls? Yes, for real. My daughter ordered a cheese pizza and that was priced appropriately. Everything else was priced through the roof. Value for Dollar: 1 star (see above) Ambience and Service: Service was five stars. Our waitress Regina (spelling) was knowledgeable, personable and very friendly. She saved the experience. After looking at the menu, and seeing what my family ordered, I realized that this place is more expensive and not quite as good Steak and Whiskey (just more wine and not whiskey). So excited this opened ! I had dinner here last night with a friend and will definitely come back. The ambiance and decor is gorgeous; we sat on the outdoor patio. We ordered several dishes and left feeling full. The spicy tuna crispy rice was excellent. Often I find crispy rice to be too oily and overly fried but this was perfectly done and had plenty of protein atop too. Our other favorite dish was the pork gochujang lettuce wraps which I would also absolutely order again. The charcuterie and branzino were very good but not as special as the two mentioned above. Our least favorite dish was the Aguachile but it was by no means bad. The service was prompt and great especially for an opening. The ambiance is less corporate / stuffy conflated to Joey next door. My partner has one of those new CA IDs that look a little odd but are valid nonetheless The waiter tried folding it ??? and really inspected it. Been here about 4 times since they opened for both brunch and dinner. I really enjoy the bar that extends to the patio, it was nice and cozy at night as they have heaters. I think I've tried 4 drinks so far and my favorite is the Matchi and Gins and Roses. I definitely preferred dinner over brunch. A must try is the Crispy Tuna.. I thinks that's what keeps bringing me back in. The S&S Burger is also a must. Having enjoyed the Long Beach location, I had high expectations for this Saint & Second, but the experience was a massive letdown. Despite a reservation and a half-empty dining room on a Sunday afternoon, we were still made to wait. The Atmosphere here is off from the indifferent hostess to the inattentive servers. Our server forgot our appetizers entirely until reminded, and we were never offered a second round of drinks. The food was the biggest disappointment. The Lobster Risotto was watery, separating, and it was completely unappetizing TBH it looked like Vomit. The "100-layer lasagna" was dry, undersized, and dominated by mushroom and unadvertised eggplant, I couldn't taste any cheese, bechamel, or tomato sauce. While the cocktails were excellent and the space is beautiful, they don't justify the high price point. With so many great options nearby, this location needs a serious overhaul if it plans to survive. read more
