Rice and pork chop
Jenny H.

The fries chicken was really good. I like how thin and crispy the skin was. I wish it dame with more fries! The pork chop sauce was good. Pork chop was thin. The rice and egg standard. The set came with a soup and bread. Coffee was good too. I enjoy the vibes here. Super busy on Saturdays.

My family has been coming here for decades, the same waitresses have been here since the 1990s. This is such a homey spot to come to when I'm craving a comfort meal. I like getting the baked pork chop rice, baked beef tongue rice, baked beef steak rice. I mainly get baked rice, but their sizzling noodle plates are quite popular as well. The milk tea is yummy, it ties the whole meal together! While this spot always hits the spot, I think the taste/texture of the meat in the dishes could improve.

When my wife and I are craving Hong Kong diner food, we typically head over to the Ranch 99 plaza and visit Hong Kong Cafe. We wanted to switch things up so we decided to try out Saint Anna Cafe Shop this weekend, since it had pretty good reviews here on Yelp. When we showed up around 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning, the restaurant was pretty empty, except for one other couple at a table close to the back. Menus were immediately brought over after we sat down, as well as hot tea. Between the two of us, we shared an order of their baked pork chop over rice, along with a club sandwich and a Hong Kong milk tea. The milk tea was larger than your average cup of milk tea at a Hong Kong diner, but it was far too sweet for my taste. I actually was only able to drink a few sips of it because of this. The baked pork chop dish is less cheesy than other places I've been to, and I didn't think the pork chop was particularly well-done: the pork was too thin so it was overcooked and not very tender, nor juicy. The only item that I would order again would be the club sandwich. This one was done well, as was the fries that came with the dish -- nice and crispy. Overall, I'm glad I was able to try out a new Hong Kong cafe, but unless I'm coming for the old-school diner vibe, there are better Hong Kong cafes out there. Cash only, but they also take Venmo!

Date: 2/22/2025 Time: 10:45 AM 56° Sunny My glucose level is at 90, which is low. Walking in Oakland Chinatown I start getting lightheaded and I know what I need right away. Breakfast at the nearest cafe - Saint Anne Cafe Shop, located at 326 - 8th Street, Oakland. After perusing the menu, I decide breakfast special, set B. It is indeed a hearty breakfast consisting of orange juice, buttered toast, chicken mushroom omelette, French fries and coffee/hot tea. For a Chinese breakfast cafe, the food is good. Surprise me that the price is reasonable - $11.00. I forgot to tell the waitress my preference is wheat toast. Being hungry I am not alert and I do not care about the type of toast served. Yes, feed me Saint Anne until the hunger pang goes away. Service is quick. My breakfast arrives within 10 minutes. Waitress is helpful. The ambiance is comfy and casual. My overall rating is 3.5 stars round up to a four star rating.

On a Friday afternoon, this restaurant was more than half full with most of their customers trying their sizzling lunches. This was my first experience in a Hong Kong style cafe, and I enjoyed the diversity in dishes they had to offer, ranging from fried rice dishes to spaghetti dishes. I ordered their special Mixed Grill dish, which came with hot milk tea, soup, bread and butter, and an assortment of meat (including sausages, beef, chicken, and pork). I enjoyed all the sides that came with the main meal, and the main dish itself came out with sauce being poured over the dish by the waiters. While some of the meats were not my favorite, I enjoyed the sausages and thinly sliced beef the most. Overall, I appreciated the friendliness of the staff and would love to come here again to try their other dishes!

I came here with family, and it was so lively! This place has been opened for over 25 years and still has the same servers! With a great love for Hong Kong comfort food, I was excited to try. We were lucky to get seated immediately. Not long after, the restaurant became so crowded! We got our orders in and it did take a while to come. Be wary that baked dishes take an extra 20-30 min to come. I ate the Baked Seafood Rice dish and it was surprisingly so light! I liked how the sauce was bright and mostly egg white, so being light made it complement the seafood well. It had fish, shrimp, squid, and they were all so warm and hearty. The portion is a little small, but the dish was $13, which is fairly cheap. They also only take cash only! The servers work efficiently, and I had a great time!

Minced beef with egg , excellent

Affordable prices, great food, and hands down the best Hong Kong-style milk tea and lemon tea in town. This place is true comfort food for many of us. Here are our favorites: Minced Beef Rice with Egg (免治牛肉煎蛋飯) - The best in town. My kids can finish four bowls here when they barely eat that much anywhere else. That says everything. Beef Fried Rice (生炒牛肉飯) - Also the best in town. I've tried this dish at many restaurants, and this one gets it right every time. Consistent and flavorful. Black Pepper Pork Chop / Chicken Chop Rice (黑椒豬扒/雞扒飯) - The meat and rice are good, but the sauce is the star. It has that fresh black pepper aroma and taste that makes you want more. Black Pepper Beef with Pan-Fried Macaroni (黑椒牛柳炒通粉) - A hidden gem. You barely see this dish anywhere in the East Bay, or even in Hong Kong nowadays. It smells amazing and tastes even better. Hong Kong Milk Tea / Lemon Tea (港式奶茶 / 檸茶) - Classic, authentic Hong Kong flavor. The taste may vary slightly depending on who makes it, but it's still among the best in town. Service isn't their main selling point (if you know what I mean ), but they have many loyal returning customers -- and that says a lot.

Ham macaroni soup- breakfast item $10 including milk tea, was good

Here are $10 breakfast, available before 11 am, Monday through Friday only. Not worth $10 to me. I don't think I will come back for breakfast, I might try lunch sometime. Service was okay. You can add a hot beverage for $3,50. No refills available for coffee. The cup is small.

First time trying Saint Anna Cafe Shop in Oakland's Chinatown as it was posted in a Chinese group on Facebook. Honestly, this place didn't seem like it was anything to write home about. We tried three items this visit, including: Curry Chicken Curry Beef Shrimp Fried Rice Nothing really stood out, the curry flavor was pretty good, and the amount of meat was decent, although, once you get got the bottom, you'll soon realize it's all potato. The Shrimp Fried Rice wasn't nothing special, a few pieces of small shrimp and then rice. Also, ordered an Iced Hong Kong Milk Tea, there wasn't much tea flavor at all, mostly just tasted sugary, and very sweet. Overall, just an okay place to try. The customer service was ok, they didn't seem too attentive, but you can easily get their attention. Might return, might not, we'll see.

Best Hong Kong-style Western food in the Bay Area in my opinion. Great prices and variety, food fresh and delicious! Always enjoy their steaks served on sizzling plates. They are a treat to all your senses- you see, hear, smell and taste the steak crackling right in front of you. Service is friendly and usually quick. Just keep in mind that it only accepts cash or Venmo when you come!

Garoupa with sweetcorn
Kenneth T.

Whenever I have a chance to go to Oakland Chinatown, this is one of my favorite place to get some food! And if I'm not with too many things to carry, their Hong Kong milk tea is a must! This time, I wanted to try their garoupa with seeetcorn over rice (my usual in the past has always been Garoupa cuttlet with Saint Anna's sauce - slightly peppery brown sauce with LOTS of onion and some green onions). The choice wasn't bad. The combination of Garoupa with sweetcorn was delicious. However, between the seeetcorn or Saint Anna's sauce, the latter would still be my top choice, personally. Service was fast and timely. The ambiance of eating on-site is like a regular Hong Kong style cafe.

Beef and tomato spaghetti

Saint Anna is a nostalgic place for me and my parents - especially my dad. We would come for breakfast on the weekends and get the macaroni set with toast and milk tea. The service is quick with the few workers they have. The ambiance is a little small and dim but it's your typical hk cha chan tang vibes. My favorites are the baked pork chop and tomato and beef spaghetti.

A great spot for authentic Hong Kong-style food! The flavors really remind me of home -- everything tasted fresh and comforting. The menu has a good variety, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size. Service was quick and friendly too. Definitely a go-to place if you're craving Hong Kong-style dishes without breaking the bank.

Some many items to choose from, the person taking my order was very helpful in explaining the different kinds of drinks and pastries. Ordered the Ginger Honey Jobani as a hot drink, Biscoff Milkcake, Honeycomb, and a Beef Fatayer. There were several kinds of milkcakes which would have the texture like a tres leches cake. The Honeycomb had pockets of cream cheese and was drizzles with honey. The Meat Fatayer is like an empanada. The food and drink were very tasty. I loved the ambiance, it felt we was in another country. The place was packed I have no idea where everyone parked haha. Very hard to find parking. The Adeni Chai I had was wonderful and I would get again. The lemon pastries I had were good & I would possibly get again. Both cheese pastries & meat pocket I didnt care for so much. I undetstand they are an acquired taste but me being Middle Eastern we have our own versions and I think that's why I didn't like as much. I would definitely go back and try more sweet pastries. We went mainly for drinks and tried a latte, tiramisu latte, and a Spanish latte. The tiramisu latte and Spanish latte were both really good and definitely my favorites. Smooth, flavorful, and not overly sweet. You can tell the coffee quality is solid. We also tried the matcha drinks in vanilla and strawberry. I liked the strawberry matcha more. It comes unsweetened, so I asked for it to be sweetened and it was great after that. The vanilla matcha was fine too, just not my top pick. They're also dropping a new Ramadan drink soon, a date latte, which sounds really good and I'll probably come back just to try that. Overall, great drinks and a nice place to hang out.
