    Combo banh mi - $9.50
    Jane L.

I miss the OG Cam Huong shop up Webster. $2.00 banh mis, those were the days...Anyway, their bakery makes pretty decent sandwiches albeit more expensive now. Got their combo banh mi. A bit skimpy on the meat but the flavor's there and the bread is fresh.

Been around for 23 years so they're doing something right! Definitely a little hole in the wall. Their baked goods don't look appealing to me at all, but the banh mi sandwiches are really good and clearly their main thing. We got BBQ chicken and BBQ pork. The French roll was super fresh and the flavors of both sandwiches were great. Good place for a quick, cheap lunch when you're in Chinatown.

Old moon cake! Expensive and bad!

Stop selling stale items. Someone previously pointed this out, yet I was given a baked pork bun that was hard as rock and tasted bad. The mooncake was also inedible, as it seemed like it's months old.

This is just like the ones Little Saigon of Tenderloin looks like.

Not much I talk about the Vietnamese café in the East Bay since it's a bit larger than the one in the Tenderloin. It's brilliant to see how these plastic wrapped packaged foods were set in perfect harmony. I feel I might come back here once again since my brother was so interested. I expect our phone call with the staff members will turn out smoothly for the next visit. Say we shall have banh mí sandwiches without jalapeños. Let's hope Cam Huong Bakery do just as well as other Vietnamese cafés do throughout the East Bay.

Che (no fruit, lots of beans, contains peanut)

I stopped by for che because I recently had some really good che from somewhere else. The kind I was craving was the fruity kind (with lychee, longan, jackfruit). But the version they had here did not have any fruits. There was coconut milk (thick), pandan jelly, peanuts, red+green beans, many other beans, I think sago (but clumped together). If you're into beans this one is beans heaven, but sadly not for me. I got about a quarter into the cup and found it too sweet. I won't get the che here again, but the bottled pennywort drink was good, although a little less sweet would have been better for my taste. There is a $10 minimum if you are using a card for payment.

I've been working at a health center in Oakland Chinatown for 2 years now, and this place always does the job when I want a good Vietnamese coffee to help me get through the day. Honestly, the coffee is like magic! Cam Huong Bakery is a small shop on the corner of Webster and 11th Street, and it opens pretty early so I really love how it's conveniently there if I need that morning boost when I'm at work for 8 hours or more. The family that runs the spot is really nice and always and swift when making drinks or banh mi. I'll warn that the banh mi is a little pricey here (around $5), but considering that it's in Oakland, it makes sense in comparison to somewhere like San Jose where Vietnamese food is in abundance. Beyond the convenience and customer service, ever since protests in recent months, the shop has put up beautiful signs in support of Black Lives, which I personally think is pretty dope considering the signs are in different languages. It's a good thing to know the family is coming from a space of Afro-Asian solidarity!

Came here to try the sandwiches. I ordered the grilled chicken, the ham combo and the vegetarian as the lemongrass tofu was out. The sandwiches are ok, it hits the spot for the banh mi craving. Sandwiches are $7.00 each, still ok in terms of prices. The vegetarian one was ok, wished that there were more tofu in it, my daughter had the grilled chicken and she said the chicken was dry. Friendly worker, easy location.

Stopped by for a quick bahn mi after volunteering at the KP Oakland Pride event. Arrived and nobody acknowledged us for a good 5 min- we had to call out to someone to take our order. Ordered the chicken bahn mi ($4.50)- it wasn't good. Chicken was hard and tasted old like it had been sitting out from the day before. The other ingredients were ok but it was sloppily made. Definitely could've gotten a way better one for the same price at Bahn Mi Ba Le on International Blvd.

    Durian Cake for girl birthday
    Hoang N.

I've only gotten cake here, so the review is for cake only. I called and placed order for cake pickup the next day . The durian cake is super yummy, with lots of durian, and the chiffon cake is soft, moist and not overly sweet. The decor cream is fresh cream, so it's not sweet like American cake. My whole family really enjoyed it.

Cam Huong bakery is good for a quick bite on my way to work in the morning. They open early. There's a variety of options like pork buns, danishes, cookies, moon cakes, croissants, etc. The Banh Mi's are adequate to good on any given day. The prices are slightly higher than all the other bakeries in Chinatown for some reason. About .50 cents more per item on average. So if I'm stopping there for a Banh Mi, I pay the extra change for the other items out of convenience.

With my luck, my car would smell like hello kitty for weeks. Anyhow, I found Mẹ Và Con on yelp, a mother-daughter owned resto that opened in 2024. They serve bánh khọt and have outdoor seating so we headed over. Thankfully, we arrived before the Sunday dinner rush (~5:45 pm) and before the parking lot was filled. Rezzies are accepted (via phone). M E N U Viet Cuisine with some elevated, modern twists (no specific regional specialty). Smaller menu than your typical hole-in-the-wall with 25-30 items including AZN fusion items like shrimp ceviche, kimchi pasta and tom yum pasta. Beer, wine, and soju cocktails available. F O O D * Bò Tái Chanh: Beef Carpaccio w/ Thai basil, fried shallot, house tangerine sauce ($18): https://tinyurl.com/nhcn9kxw - Served at dinner only Fresh, tender slices of beef carpaccio with a sweetness from the tangerine sauce and white onions. I appreciate their twist (tangerine sauce instead of nước chấm) but it was too one note for me...IMO, it needed acid and herbs. Plus, I miss the texture of peanuts. * Bánh Khọt: Viet Mini Pancakes w/ shrimp, coconut milk batter, herbs, pickles ($24): https://tinyurl.com/34nx7sat - Served at dinner only Fav dish of the night, the savory bánh khọt was delicately crispy and slightly custardy in the center with a snappy shrimp drizzled with fragrant scallion oil. It came with romaine, mint, and perilla leaves neatly layered for easy wrapping. The lettuce was a bit soft and soggy tho, and I think they forgot the pickled veggies. Served with a tiny portion of tangy sweet nước chấm. * Bò Lúc Lắc: Shaking Beef w/ soy, garlic, onion, cherry tomato, arugula ($26): https://tinyurl.com/3rkpukct Meltingly tender cubes of filet mignon but light on the seasoning and aromatics so it was bland. Also, was hoping for more smoky wok hei flavor. * Thịt Kho Tàu: Braised Pork Belly w/ hard boiled eggs, rice ($21): https://tinyurl.com/mr2evryw - Includes bowl of rice A traditional dish served during Lunar New Year, it symbolizes prosperity, warmth, and stability. Chunks of pork belly are caramelized in sugar and braised in coconut soda and fish sauce - rich, savory with a good ratio of lean meat to fat (4 pieces). Wish they used more braising liquid when warming up, as some pieces were a bit dry. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly hospitality. Food does take awhile tho...our first dish took about 30 minutes to arrive. A M B I A N C E Casual, no-frills indoor area with about 10-12 tables. Cute covered patio in the parking lot with 5 tables and fairy lights. Overall, Mẹ Và Con is a great place to introduce people that are new to Viet cuisine and/or you're looking for Viet dishes with different twist.

We ordered the tofu bahn mi, tofu, veggies and mushroom vermicelli and Vietnamese pancake with shrimp. They were all amazing. My fiancé had the vermicelli bowl which he said was pretty good with all the stirred fried tofu, veggies and mushrooms. What was surprising the most was the Vietnamese pancake. It was so good that I would come back for just this appetizer. It has a crunchy texture on the outside, but the inside was so creamy. Wrap that with a lettuce and dip in the fish sauce and wow! My mouth was happy. Service here is top notch! The server was super attentive and he knew just when we needed more napkins and more water. This is a fast place, table sharing, no room having place. If you're looking for a western style dining, it can become overwhelming. But, just embrace the speed and efficiency of this restaurant. Because once you are seated, you're served immediately to get you on the way. With service, don't expect tier 1 experience, but you'll get your water/tea. Savor it, don't assume they'll come back while you're still eating. Just saying! There's a few things on the menu that are must have.. 1. Chow Jew Ho Fun with soup on the side - the obvious that everyone orders. I like to get soup on the side, and then put about two tablespoons soup back into my noodle and add all the sauces! Then occasionally, sip the soup to wash everything down. 2. Beef Stew Ho Fun - My boyfriend's must have. Flavorful, soft meat, delicious. 3. Fish Cakes - Personally, I don't care for fish cakes, but my boyfriend and his family order it all the time, so of course I'll still eat it. It's still good. I'm just a person who feels I can buy it from the banh mi shops and it taste the same. Lol I don't eat anything else here. This is one of those restaurants where you go and eat what they're known for, not wander off too far away from the menu because the other stuff is just legit filler items. The only problem I have is, it's so expensive now for a small bowl. So it makes me not want to come back, but at the same time, flavors are really good. You just would think with the amount of customers, the business thriving, you could at least keep the portion size the same as before..

I loved the savory take on each, and since they're rarer finds, I was glad that Tay Ho had them on the menu. I mean it's a pretty good deal. #2 Banh Mi Dac Biet/Special Combo Ham Sandwich - If you're looking for a cold italian sandwich but want to explore new options this is a vietnamese version that also has pate butter taking it to the next level. #7 Banh Mi Xiu Mai/Meat Ball & Egg Sandwich - An elevated version of the #3 with an added egg. This was my absolute favorite as a child and still is now. Nice balance of sweet and salty. The meat is tender and with the added egg yolk that pops when you take a bite takes it the next level. I think this is also slept on since I don't see many people ordering it. #13 Banh Mi Xa Xiu/BBQ Pork Sandwich - This is their secret weapon. My god the sweetness from the bbq pork with the pate butter is incredible. I always look forward to eating the bottom end of the sandwich because that's where most of the flavor and butter are hiding. The pickled veggies help give it the acidity it needs for a well balanced bite. By far my favorite. They also have many other options besides banh mi that make and sell on the day of like Banh Cuon, Che, Egg rolls, etc. Definitely give those a try especially the Mochi Ham sandwich aka Banh Day they got there too.
