Went to Saints and Scholars Pub with a group of friends for a night out, and we had such a great time. We came mainly for the karaoke, which was a blast - the energy was infectious, and the crowd was super friendly. The drinks were on point, with a good selection of options to keep everyone happy. Now, about the food: I ordered the fried oysters. Honestly, I was hesitant. I don't usually think "pub" and "great oysters" in the same sentence, so my expectations were pretty low. But wow - I was pleasantly surprised! They were delicious, perfectly fried, and full of flavor. Saints and Scholars definitely exceeded my expectations with those oysters. read more

This place had a nice atmosphere and the food was pretty good, but I wouldn't say great... service was ok, but again not great. Our food took a long time even though it wasn't busy... the worst part was the ladies room, first the door to go in looked dirty & grimy, paint peeling off where everyone pushes the door open. Came for lunch one day last month for the first time. There were 4 of us. Plenty of places to sit as only a couple of tables were occupied. We all ordered. I asked about the potato chips: are the fresh made? Answer was yes! I'm in, love fresh made chips with ranch sauce. The meals came out and looked very nice. Great presentation. The sandwich I had was good but kind of bland flavoring. Nothing really noteworthy, but definitely ok. The chips tasted really weird, like they were off. So I asked the server what's up? They don't taste fresh. She said they were probably a bit stale as they were made yesterday and sitting in old oil overnight......ummmm...okay, so that's not fresh. I was also charged full price on that and not offered a replacement side. I suppose I could have demanded one but I didn't. My companions got fries so they were happy. They said their meals were " ok" but also kind of bland, too. Nothing else was really wrong. It may have been just a bad day for this place , but based on my experience, I will not be back for lunch. Came here with my bride to see a band play late on a Sunday afternoon. The band One:40 was terrific! The food (Reuben) was decent and the service was okay considering the crowd. It was difficult to get the attention of the servers outdoors. I'm guessing they were short staffed. We did stick around and we spent some $$ on food and a couple drinks here. If all the bands are this good, I'll be happy to come back and spend my $$ here, however, I hope the staffing gets resolved soon. read more

When we moved to Raleigh, my wife researched on the Web for a pub that attracted an older clientele, and Saints and Scholars came up, top of the list. We had stopped by mid- afternoon a couple of times for a quick drink, but had not really experienced the full atmosphere. So, ok, well, perhaps things get more lively at night and on weekends. Of course we ended up there the evening of the 17th, Saint Patrick's day! It was jam packed, a live band and a great atmosphere. The food menu was much bigger than we had thought originally, and what we ordered was excellent. Of course after several Guinness's (?) and a shot or two of Irish whiskey, I'm sure everything would have tasted grand. I have to apologize for not remembering the band's name, but they were good certainly, rocking the joint for 3 or 4 hours, although towards the end they could have slowed things down a little as the music was becoming slightly overpowering, but not a complaint against the band at all. Everybody that wanted to dance had already been worn out and folks started leaving around around ten thirty/eleven o'clock. A good time was had by all! Will definitely put S&S on our list of pubs to revisit - probably evenings in the future. They do tend to have live music pretty often from what I gather, and have a spacious covered patio outside. Stopped after a day on Falls lake. I got fish and chips- didn't like the fries or the coleslaw my husband ordered chicken something nachos and they were like homemade chips and the sauce left a funny taste in his mouth. We like to go here occasionally pre-Covid. Tried once a few weeks ago, thank goodness we ate very early and not many folks. By the time we left it was filling up with no attempt to social distance or to even sit spaced out! Outside, sure but don't go inside near the bar, people all over each other and introductions!! The food was excellent, the burgers cooked just the way we ordered them. Cousin loved his shrimp and Grits. We went on a karaoke night so they were busy. But it was like Covid doesn't exist here not a single mask on, groups dancing. The waiter was nice with his mask under his chin, but no one ever returned to check on food or drinks after the owner brought everything out unmasked. We finally searched out our server for a receipt. This was probably a 4 star experience but the lack of following the Covid laws and the lack of an attentive server enough to feel a need to cut a star from my review. First time here and I feel like this place deserves all 5 starts. FIRST let's talk about the food. This place serves Greek style food that is fresh and large portions. I got a salad and the bf got a wrap, both fantastic. SECOND atmosphere. We sat at the bar and the service from the bartender was awesome. Craig shot out to you for being personable and for keeping the hockey game on the TV! THIRD: live music!!! This is huge!!! As music lovers it is always a plus to have dinner and drinks and live music. They have it most nights (I think). This is a neighborhood bar and pub. We visited on a Saturday night for dinner before a live band played. Great service, enjoyed our cushioned bamboo perch with a good view of the band. Fish and chips were here five stars. Crispy and not too greasy. Reports hubby. I opted for a healthy choice--grilled salmon, lentils and rice (way better than that sounds) and a generous pike of assorted steamed veggies. Everything was served hot. Veggies could have used a little more cooking time, fish a little less, but for pub food, a great choice. Acoustics could have been a lot better. Band was okay and drew a nice crowd. No cover charge. The TVs lining the walls and the two distractingly located behind the band, were never shut off, reminding you that this venue is better as a sports bar than a music venue. Interesting yummy drink menu, craft beers and domestics, wine and full bar available. Outdoor space looks like it is worth a trip back to this neighborhood Irish pub when it warms up. read more

Went there last night for drinks and had appetizers. We haven't been this way in a few years. It has changed! I remember they had live music and the atmosphere was totally different then last night. I saw a sign that said $5 charge for live music. At the bar with I think 5 more people that's it. Bartender was pleasant and attentive, but there where to guys walking back and pacing back and forth as closing time was approaching. Very uncomfortable and creepy. I had heard they have new owners. It was a Tuesday night and was part of a large group, but besides our group not sure they had many additional customers. The food was good. Didn't hear any complaints and across the group, we covered most of the menu. I had fish and chips, others had shepherd's pie, salmon, turkey club, quesadilla. The big question, would I come back? At best a maybe. One thing thought a bit odd, and probably because we were a large group but we were asked for individual credit cards when ordering our drinks. Great place to see live music in north Raleigh! The food is pretty good too, and the drinks aren't crazy expensive. The outdoor area is large and sprawling. Only downside is the bathroom is severely undersized for a place that gets such a large crowd. read more

This hurts me to do this. The food is always a five star. Lately the service has been awful. Less than a one star. We can't get a beer that doesn't have at two inches of head on it. The large gentleman that is considered a server couldn't get our order correct when they were dead slow. Seemed like he was more into hangin out at the bar than costumer service. So our order came out incorrectly and they charged us for their mistake. The seemed more inebriated than me after really only 1 1/2 beers ( thick head) The front of house here is an absolute joke. Sorry I love your food, always will. But I can't support your business with people who don't care about the guests. read more

Really like what they're doing here! Menu has been tweaked since we were here last. Nice mix of Irish Pub/Mediterranean food. Seating is a mixture of bar, bar area, dining room, plus high tops in between near the new Bottle Shop. They also have a patio for when the weather is good. Live music often as well. Husband tried the Bourbon Street Medley which is quite the delicious assortment: Chicken, Shrimp, Keilbasa Sausage, Onions, Mushrooms, Cajun Cream Sauce, Tri Color Tortellini. He really liked it. Said everything was cooked perfectly and the serving was plentiful. He even brought some home. I wasn't super hungry, so went with the Mediterranean Salad, which was a giant bowl of lettuce, olives, feta, onions, tomatoes and cucumber, with four wedges of fried pita. Note: fried pita tastes a bit doughnut like! (that's a good thing). Service was very good, especially considering how busy they were on this Friday night. Love going to his pub on Wednesdays. Karaoke with Wanda is a blast and bartender Craig making you feel right at home as he makes drinks for the whole place! The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff is attentive. The food came out fast and was really good with large portions. I will definitely be coming back. read more

So after that shitty night I went back to get the $5 cover for lousy music taken immediately after entering and then over charged for pickles $1 which they didn't bother putting in the hamburger usually they put the toppings for me it seems every tine I go there I get discriminated against and treat poorly. Went there this evening. Band was playing and when we got our bill there's a charge for $5 per person for the band. We went for dinner at 7:30 not for a night out. They said it was posted at the door about the charge. They were right... it was posted on the opposite side of the door opening. I understand late at night but not 7:30 pm. Hope the band shares the $10 fee with the waiter tip. read more

I have frequented this pub over the last year and a half - and I must say - I always enjoy it! They have live music a couple of nights out of the week and a great outside sitting area to enjoy the band or karaoke over drinks with friends or even alone! I can't say their food is what keeps me coming back, because it's not. But it's a convenient neighborhood bar with good drinks and good service. I have tried several things on the menu from the mac and cheese, Caesar salad, pub nachos, wraps, and chicken pesto pizza. I think out of everything I've tried so far the nachos are my favorite! And you can't really go too wrong with wings.. Overall - give this place a shot! Especially if you enjoy live bands and karaoke :-) read more

Used to like this bar as a decent mid week stop but since covid, they've done anything and everything they can to help spread the virus. Initially I was impressed with their sanitizing and mask wearing when restaurants were allowed to reopen but since around July they've stopped all of it. The servers don't wear masks, the whole place is crowded, nothing is cleaned. We went on a Saturday at 12:30pm and the place was empty. It was very clean and the bartender was the only one working (obviously). She was very nice and never wanted for anything while we were there. My husband ordered the Shepherd's Pie and I ordered fish and chips. The Shepherd's Pie came with sautéed vegetables and were amazing! They were seasoned well and still had a little bite to them. Now for the fish and chips. You got two pieces and they were over battered. They were crispy on the outside but the batter wasn't cooked all the way through so it was soggy and falling off. You couldn't taste the fish at all. The homemade dill pickle tartar sauce was amazing. The fries were really good too. My husband did want to throw in there that his Guinness was poured correctly but he's never had a Guinness not poured in a Guinness glass. I told him that's not a deal breaker. This was my first time back since June - I liked the patio and plentiful outdoor seating but things had changed. The food was still good. The service was okay. But the place had really gone slack on Covid caution. Many employees, including servers, were not wearing masks. Some wore masks..on their chins. I saw no masks on employees inside the building. And of course there was minimal social distancing amongst the patrons. If you are trying to live a "Covid-cautious" life this may be a place you want to bypass. read more

Came here for a Friday date night and it was surprising my pretty good. It is a typical pub but there is a restaurant included and great patio seating. On Friday's they have live music and different specials. I got the chicken sandwich with cheese lettuce and tomato with sweet potato fries... SO GOOD.. Also pictured: Shrimp and Grits they were tasty but not as flavorful as the dish generally is. This is that place where everyone knows your name; it has a solid group of friendly regulars and that cozy, neighborhood pub feel. We had dinner at the bar and were warned that at 9pm it would get crazy busy because live music starts and it draws a big crowd. The menu is a mix of traditional Irish dishes- boxty, bangers & mash, shepherd's pie, corned beef and cabage, fish and chips and chicken curry, and Mediterranean dishes. Mixed amongst all the meat and potatoes you'll find tzatziki, hummus, kabobs, kafka, gyro and chicken shawarma. Based on the website, it looks like the owner also owns a Mediterranean, which explains the menu. Typically, I'd be leery of such a broad menu, but Saints & Scholars makes it work. It was tough choosing, but I went with the bangers & mash and my husband had a roast beef cheese steak sandwich, topped with caramelized onions. The sandwiches' presentation was poor, but the flavor was fantastic. First, the bread; we've had this type of roll before and absolutely loved it and we left determined to source it. My husband said it was the best sandwich he's had in a long time. The bangers & mash again suffered from poor presentation, but won major points on flavor, it is hearty comfort food. The dish arrived looking like the mound of mashed potato was swimming in watered down gravy, with two wedges of pita bread on each side. Maybe the plate is wrong? I thought the pita bread was an odd addition, but after tasting it- clearly it is fresh, fluffy almost, maybe even house made, I'm eager to try the Mediterranean dishes. Overall, we enjoyed Saints & Scholars. The menu is very reasonably priced, the staff was friendly, there are daily drink specials like $3 pints, and a spacious patio with fire pits and plenty of parking. We will definitely go back, but this time for the other side of the menu. read more

I can only rate this on the experience I personally had so here goes. We went to see some live music and eat dinner. We got there well over an hour before the band started. No seats available. So we thought we would just put our name on the list. No greeter, no list. So after 15 minutes of waiting and a lot of other people looking for the same seats you were. We decided to leave. Super unorganized and no staff offered any help. Would never return to this place. Just my two cents...... read more
