Hidden gem. Although - get here early to get a table. Fresh. Flavorful. Authentic. "Real crab" options. Local. As in they knew many of their patrons the night I visited. Sake Blue is worth the drive from Danville and Walnut Creek. Yup. I came in from SF to try their sushi. If you're looking for fresh authentic Japanese sushi, sake blue is your answer 5-stars.

Good local sushi spot! We came here for early dinner on a Friday and there were plenty of seating available. My husband got a chirashi bowl and I went with the nigiri / sashimi combo. We also shared an Orinda roll with salmon but I would have been full with my main. The fish was pretty fresh and there was a good variety of different types. We also got two beers and ended up spending a little over $100 the two of us. Overall, good spot if you're craving some sushi

My parents have raved about this place for ages, so now that I've moved back to the area, I finally had to give it a try for lunch! I ordered the lunch bento box ($22) to-go through their website. While online payment isn't available yet, you can pay at pickup. The estimated wait time was 35 minutes, but my dad assured me they'd be quicker--closer to 15 minutes--and to my surprise, he was right! I waited in my car and got a text when my order was ready. The lunch bento offers a great selection--you pick two items, and it comes with a salad, miso soup, and two pieces of gyoza. I went with the five-piece sashimi and beef teriyaki. The sashimi was the highlight--fresh and flavorful. The beef was tender, though the teriyaki sauce was a bit on the watery side (not overly sweet, which I appreciated). The miso soup, however, could use a little more miso paste for a richer taste. Overall, a solid meal at a good price! Glad to have a quality sushi spot in Orinda.

This is the first time we stopped by to try this newer Japanese restaurant. We ordered 3 bento boxes to go that come with salmon teriyaki, sushi rolls, rice, gyoza, miso soup, and rice. The salad had a carrot ginger dressing that I never tried before and loved it. It's such a unique taste that I need to try it again. All the food was fresh and tasty. We will be back again.

Really reasonable priced and good food in a chill casual spot. I liked the Sake Blue roll and Summer Special (quail egg, oyster, ikura shooter basically). The fish was good quality on the nigiri- but they put WAY too much rice. But that's an easy fix while eating. Will surely return.

Loving this new spot! We got the ramen and some nigiri. Angel served us and was super attentive. Also love that we could watch the Sugarbowl while dining. We'll be back soon!

Immaculate service!…read more Chef Kenji and Coco provided us with an exquisite omakase experience of seventeen courses. Not your basic slice and serve sushi but each piece was took days to prepare. The curing process of the fish and incredible house made soya sauces, yes he made more than one. As well as a very tasty ponzu sauce. While Chef Kenji plated each dish they were served by his wife, Coco. She provided a description of each dish and well as the best way to enjoy the full flavors of each. She was very detailed as to which sauce to use, if any, and how you should place is in your mouth. I can't say enough good things about this humble and almost hidden away gem. We will be back!

It's owned by a wife and husband team, and they take a limited number of tables per night. They offer a unique range of fishes all flown in from Japan. We have had the dine-in and takeout options and both were delicious. They provide instruction and recommendations on how to best enjoy the sushi (such as dipping in soy sauce versus ponzu). It can be difficult to contact them, but I have always left a message in the past, and they have gotten back to me within a week. I would recommend ordering at least a week in advance for sushi platters.

The standout dishes for me were the Calamari, Karaage, and Daikon Salad. The Calamari was perfectly fried, and the seasoning was well-balanced. The Karaage was also perfectly fried, and the sauce was flavorful. The Daikon Salad was light and refreshing. I would like to thank our server, Noah, for his helpfulness in choosing our dishes and for the prompt service. I highly recommend it!

The good: fresh, quality ingredients The bad: started with the host/wait list. I accidentally added my name twice for a solo diner. Host thought it was a mistake and completely removed me from the wait list and seated other parties that came in after me. Thoroughly confused - she didn't even call my name to confirm so I had to go up to her and ask. No apology either. Was seated at the counter where solo diners usually sit. Service was non existent. Server came up to me and ask "what would you like to order?" I've never been there before. No "hi my name is ... I'll be your server" nada. They're just a machine - people in people out. The ramen - broth was fine. The squiggly noodles aren't my favorite. Expected to have kernel corn but had corn ribs instead (good thing I'm good with chopsticks!) The charshu was just okay. Enoki topping was just ... aight. The nice touch was that they didn't put it in the ramen and served it on the side to preserve its crunchiness because it definitely needed the texture! It was loud, busy, and nothing spectacular about the dining scene here. $55 dollars later (ramen, 2 additional toppings, one box of sake) ... I sadly don't think it was worth it.

We ended up seating at a shared communal table for dinner. We ordered maguro tuna carpaccio and hamachi hand roll set as appetizers to start. Carpaccio was very thinly sliced with interesting Asian fusion flavors. I loved the hamachi handroll set; well seasoned thick cuts of fish. We also shared the ocean trout and mentaiko pasta for entrees and both were good. Crispy skin on the fish was excellent. The pasta was buttery but felt like it was missing something. We got yogurt soju and Sauvignon blanc wine, both were really good. Small restaurant with small tapa style plates. Great vibes and suitable for date night. This is a little gem of a restaurant with a cute interior dining area with television for people watching the FIFA games, a good bar selection of you imbibe, and a delightful patio where you can sit under a covered awning. The place has a small parking lot along the side of the restaurant located in the back. If you're shopping at Whole Foods or Mount Diablo Foods, this restaurant is located down the street from them on a side street on Lafayette Circle. I spoke to the owner, they only use the best quality sushi: Atlantic King salmon, bluefin tuna, the shrimp is cooked here, white tuna is from Korea, the onso hamachi is from Hokkaido. The onagi is high end, and ordered from Thailand. There are two other Kiku Sushi & Vegetarian locations, one is located in north Berkeley, 1416 Gilman Street, Berkeley, CA, and one is located at 538 Valencia Street, San Francisco. The food is absolutely delicious, nicely presented, and the sashimi is cut into very thick slices. I ordered my favorite go-to dish, chirashi sushi, and a specially ordered eel handroll with rice and veggies. The matcha tempura ice cream was delicious, too.
