When you arrive parking can be a bit tricky in this area as you'll need to find parking on the street or in a nearby parking lot. When you arrive the entrance can be a bit hard to find as it's tucked away down a cobblestone road. Look for the "m" logo outside of the door of the restaurant. You'll check in with the host when you arrive, and for this trip we opted to sit at the bar. When you walk into M sushi you'll feel like you've stepped into an underground, relaxed hangout for sushi. To start I ordered the Mizuwari (Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky, elderfower liqueur, and tonic) which was perfectly balanced and a great way to start the meal. Following that the omakase service started with miso soup which was hot and fresh, followed by the different pieces of sushi. There was a variety from blue fin tuna, to sea bream, to Norwegian Sea trout. My favorite was a tie between the seared salmon belly and toro blue fin. We also ordered a bottle of Born Gold Junmai Daliginjo (Rich, smooth, fruit and grain forward) which paired excellently with the meal. This was a fun experience as it was my first time trying Omakase and looking forward to my next trip to M Sushi.

We tried them because a soda was $6 and there were no free refills. I find that a strange decision but this could be personal preference. We got a mixture of the small plates and rolls including the nigiri (delightful!), tuna crispy rice (my 2nd favorite), dumplings, bao bun (one cut in half), the rainbow roll, and the unagi roll. While I thought the nigiri and tuna crispy rice were amazing - both tasted fresh - overall, the food was just fine. I think our experience could just be based on pure preference. I found the sushi to be good but not the best I have ever had as some other Yelpers have experienced.

My only problem is it's very tiny inside and tables are nestled so close to each other so you're almost within arms reach of another table. Gets very busy so there will definitely be a wait depending upon the time you go so plan for that but you can walk around the Whole Foods around the corner or around Duke East Campus across the street while waiting.

The quality of the fish was great, the flavor combinations were unique, and each course was different from each other (I appreciated only one course- with 4 items- was tempura/fried). My favorite courses of the meal were the FIRST "seabass sammie" and the brie tempura (get the add on if it's not included in your menu!!!!) Some of the courses were interactive (I.e. cooking lobster in butter) and made for a cool, fun, and unique experiences. The restaurant is small and cozy (limited seating, so make a reservation far in advance), and both the waiters and the chefs were extremely friendly and engaging (sit at the bar counter). Really enjoyed all of the food, and an opportunity to wear something nice, and to eat something different (than what you're used to in Durham). Wife and I went here Sunday afternoon around 5 or so. This was our first time here and we were excited to try it. We sat at a booth in the bar area. They had a very nice sake menu and my wife got one she enjoyed; I had a cocktail and a beer which were both good. We each got a sushi roll and they were great. The rolls are BOGO. Just like everywhere else in America, the BOGO free item is applied to the lesser of the values. We were not surprised by this as it is the norm. Apparently some people, whose ego dictates the term 'doctor' on yelp of all places, are unaware. A BOGO deal on the lesser roll is still a great deal! Anyhow, the server also did a good job. He checked on us just enough to take care of us without seeming to be 'hovering'. We didn't have a lot of questions but he made sure to tell us to let him know if we had any. (I thiiiiiiink his name was Calvin? I could be wrong or misremembering) We're looking forward to coming back and trying another set out of their, like, 50 different sushi rolls. Wow If you are in Durham I think this the best place to have sushi. I went there with my husband and cousin. Don't know exactly when anymore. I think it was a Wednesday. To our positive surprise they had a sushi special going on - every sushi item was half price. Amazing, after ordering tons of sushi rolls and nigiris. the bill was just about over 60 USD. And the best thing was the quality and taste of the sushi. rolls are rolled perfectly. rice was cooked good as well. Nothing to complain about. Regarding the interior, its a quite nice restaurant. As other mention the restaurant look scary from the out side but as soon as you step into the front door ... WOW ... It look like a 5 star hotel so so beautiful, the place is clean and hip nothing like the typical sushi restaurant at all, the sushi roll is fresh and good and it is buy one get one everyday, must try the spicy tuna salad ( highly recommended by our waitress ) OMG !!! it is just yummy, the fresh spring mixed, fresh tuna and that killing sauce it just make you want more and more, overall experience is good me and boyfriend had decided to make Sake Bomb our must go place every weekend now. read more

I love going here!! I have been here multiple times but for some reason never wrote a review. The BOGO sushi is such a great deal. Their rolls are very well put together and so flavorful. They really take time to create your rolls and I appreciate that. The service is also really nice and the ambience of the restaurant is surprisingly comfortable and classy.
