Probably not a good place to have Lunch. We waited for an hour for our food. Most of the food ( chicken katsu, soba) are very bland. The sushi is okay, but not as good as expected. Hope that they can change something to keep customers coming. Not a good experience overall. read more

This place really disappointed me. Maybe I just caught them on a bad night, but my food was terrible. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with soup, salad, and fried rice. My chicken had a really weird smell.. Almost like mildew. It really confused me and I didn't know if it was just a smell from somewhere in the restaurant, so I asked my friend that was with me to smell my food to see if I'm imagining things. Nope. She smelled it too. On top of that, I don't think it was even cooked right. So I tell my waitress, who was really nice by the way (only reason I'm giving two stars), that it smells weird and tastes bad and she brings it back to the kitchen and apologizes. The manager comes by and asks me what's wrong, so I tell her, and then she comes back like 5 minutes later to inform me that the chicken tastes fine, and that it's cooked all the way because she tried it. Umm what? How about "sorry you didn't like your food, we won't charge you for it". So they don't charge me for the chicken... BUT they instead charge me for the soup, salad, drink, and fried rice all individually which ends up being the same about the meal would've been with the chicken. EAT HERE! just do it. it's mandatory. yesterday was sunday and a day that i worked intensely helping do demo in philip's mom's house. we were going to go to a chinese buffet and ended up here instead. what started out as a simple case of hunger became a painful case of ravenousness when we came in and looked at the specials on the board. there was a special sushi roll called crispy cream. recalling i'm fond of those doughnuts, i wanted to know what was in it. cream cheese, fish, other stuff that sounded great... wrapped in seaweed and batttered in tempura and fried! mmmmmm..... so, philip ordered hibachi shrimp and scallops which came with veggies and the most amazing, creamy seafood sauce. it literally tasted good on everything! but those were only our main courses! in addition to all that, we got salads with ginger dressing, which although only iceberg lettuce and the tiniest bit of shredded carrot, were delicious. best ginger dressing! and if they bring you peanuts, i reccomend saving them for your salad because they were great sprinlkled on it. we also got miso, which i love! edamame, steamed dumplings, 2 bottles of sake, green tea and tempura ice cream for dessert! just yum! we rolled out of there so full and so happy about the service, atmosphere, food and the place in general. we will be going back! read more

Happy Hour sushi? Okay! We're talking selected rolls are only $2 before 6pm. What a deal! I think there are some appetizers or salads on included too, but I only ordered rolls so I can't be sure. My only complaint is that this place is waaaay too bright. I don't know what it is, but you feel like you are on display here and so it doesn't exactly equal the best dining experience, but for the reasonable prices (even the non-happy hour prices aren't bad), I'll let it slide. read more

I came here with family on Christmas eve. The food was exquisite . We shared Shrimp Tempura Roll, Rock & Roll Roll, and the Vegetarian Roll for appetizers and got the Shrimp YAKI UDON for my Entrée. If I am going for hibachi in Pensacola, this is where I always come. The new location is soooo much better then their old one across the street. My kids really enjoy coming and the cooks put on a good show for the kids. I have never had a bad experience here. Have heard many things about sake cafe. Lots of people rave about the sushi. But when I walked in, I wasn't impressed. Needs cleaning and renovation. Fast service. But only one women's toilet and place was packed. From the crowd and previous patrons word of mouth- people like this place. But as a gulf breezer, Shan kishi has it beat!! We got sushi roll- themed Halloween. Sushi eaters said it was great. Have had sushi catered by them with rave reviews! The ginger salad was good- dressing was delicious. Had nice acidity. Soup- had the miso and DH had the chicken. Enjoyed the chicken only. No shrimp appetizer. Took forever for sushi to come out. Rice was cooked and in our plate way before sushi got there. Had steak and grouper- but not much flavor. I'll know tomorrow , evidenced by swelling, if the saltiness was overdone. It was fairly bland even the rice. Bottom line... We won't be back, No offense to others who enjoy. Maybe it was off night but not willing to cross the bridge for Sake cafe. read more

I lived in the area 10 years ago and just returned, and the first place I wanted to go was Sake Cafe. Loved their sushi back in the day. Not sure if its the chaos of COVID or what, but I will not be returning. Placed an online order, since they were only offering curbside. My total was just over $37 and I was only given the option to pay at the restaurant. When I arrived (from a hotel 20 minutes away), I pulled up. The kid running orders, poor thing, looked exhausted. We didnt know where to go, so we waited under the overhang till we caught his attention (again, he was running so many orders across the parking lot, it was nuts!). When he got to us, he got our name and we pulled into a spot to wait. We told him we had not paid yet, and he said there were many other people in line before us. Okaaaaaaay.... So we waited. When he brought out our food and bill, it was like $46. I guess they charged us for Wasabi, and mayo and soy sauce, none of which was mentioned on the site. A side of mayo costs $1.50. Like a jello shot glass not even full. WTH. They also charged us like a $5 convenience fee (again was NOT mentioned on the site). Taxes were added (which I am fine with, but you should have included this in the online total). The food was pretty average, and I have definitely had better for less near the beach. I was pissed at the charges, and paid, but this felt like it was super illegal. Someone should look into this. Needless to say, this place won't be my sushi spot like it used to be. Sad to see businesses I love back in the day resort to things like this. I get that you have to make money during this time, but you guy essentially tricked me into driving 20 mins for overpriced sushi. This sucked. Really was not impressed. When we walked in, we were greeted by a very nice hostess. But when we sat down at the hibachi, it was small, cramped, and slightly run down looking. OK, no biggie, That said, the hibachi chef couldn't get his cart by me without having to squish my legs against the counter. I'm tall (6'3"), but by no means an NBA player. It was an awkward ballet at best to fit that cart by. The waiter was alright. He came to our table promptly, but when we asked for no onions in our dish, he rolled his eyes and said "fine". My wife asked to have no salad dressing, and he yet again rolled his eyes. Jeez, I've never had a problem at other places before, but apparently here it is a problem to change anything. As soon as the cook started his service, surprise, onions in everything. I can't blame him, I asked, and he said the waiter never told him. Go figure. The food itself, meh. My wife and I had the filet, while the kiddos had shrimp. We each had salad, and the typical rice and veggies. The rice was mediocre, lacked big time in the flavor department. The veggies were unevenly cut so some were cooked right, others were half Rahal cooked. The kids loved their shrimp, so score one for the restaurant. But my wife's and my filet tasted like.........salmon. Yeah, apparently the couple across from us ordered salmon, and after theirs was cooked, the cook put our meat right on top of the same place he cooked their fish, without cleaning the spot. Went with a friend for dinner on a late Sunday afternoon & had the worse meal that I can remember being served to me in a long time. I ordered #18, the Karubi Beef Ribs. The dinner was served with a salad which was very underwhelming. I would not call it a salad. It included little pieces of iceberg lettuce & a watery ginger dressing. The ribs were served on a sizzling platter with veggies in a thick highly over sweetened sauce. The ribs consisted of many tiny oval bones with mainly fat surrounding them. I have eaten Korean style short ribs many times, & never have been served such a mixture of fat & bones. When we asked the waiter twice to show the plate to the chef, he said he did but he did not. Then we asked him to bring the manager over & we were ignored. We paid the bill & then I found the manager as we were leaving & told her about the dish . Her blank face said it all even after I told her that other restaurants make accommodations for poorly cooked & served meals. I let her know that we tried to have the waiter do something about it, but he ignored us. Would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

So I was completely flabbergasted when I got a bill for $26 for a "lunch special" After opening our food the rice had a strange taste like it was old or left out to long. It was all down hill from there. The "steak" was under cooked and chewy like rubber. The chicken I highly doubt was prepared properly because I personally haven't been able to get off the toilet. The soup (the one sip I had) tasted like dirty dish washer water. And the salad they charged me an extra 3$ for was literally a cup of lettuce. That's it. I was also charged 1$ for yum yum sauce (I have never been to a hibachi place that doesn't give you yum yum sauce or soy sauce for your meal) After talking to the "manager" he stated he would refund both my coworkers and I bill. Perfect right? Wrong he calls back to say he will not refund the food and basically said suck it up. Came here after having dinner at the Tuscan Oven next door. We told the hostess we only wanted to drink, but she looked at us and blinked. Seconds later, she told us her english wasn't the greatest, so we just asked for a table and a sake menu. The place felt like a renovated small dentist office, or maybe it used to be an H&R block. I dunno, it just didn't feel like a typical restaurant. It was decorated pretty nice on the inside, it was clean, the lighting was good, the place smelled like a typical sushi house, but it just didn't feel like a normal resturant. Besides from that, it was a decent place. The house hot sake tasted like every other house hot sake I've had. The did have a pretty sweet asian pear dessert sake. The owner stopped by and chatted us up a little bit too. It was a cool place to hang out, especially if you're a sake fan. It was cool to see the hibachi grill light up in flames in the corner of the room, and the sushi chefs were set up in the back so you could watch if you wanted to. The serving sizes are substantial and the quality is exceptional. They have great happy hour prices from 3 - 6. Went to Sake Cafe today July 25th at 1215, asked for a table not in the middle (either a booth or half booth) was told, "No, we don't have any available!" there was one available next to the lady she just seated. The hostess did not offer us anything excep the word, "No, none available". I am fully aware about double seating a server and would not have mind to sit a little longer to allow her to get to us. But when told NO!! and there are only 3 tables that are clean and one is where I pointed and asked.. something could have been done to honor my request not to sit in the center of the room!!! Strange that withing minutes that table would have became open. But, today it was more important to turn away a customer that to honor a simple request!!! read more

It was a little hectic and probably overwhelming to the staff, but they did a decent job on making it work. If anything, I enjoyed not having to pay $20 to eat lunch, as most Japanese places seem to range. They gave us a free sample of an appetizer, which was super cool. Awesome hibachi experience! Out of all the things on the menu my favorite thing is the fried rice. I don't know why it's so good but I can go without the chicken, steak, or shrimp.
