I am honestly surprised it took time this long to come across Sake Cafe, I wish I had found it months ago! All the Pensacola sushi hype is on Sushi Masa (or Horizen) I'd say with no reservations that Sake Cafe blew the Masa out of the water. We had great service, awesome ambiance in a repurposed church, awesome, unique rolls and reasonable pricing. I'd highly recommend the princess roll (krab, salmon, honey wasabi), and the red bull roll (steak, shrimp, asparagus, snapper, mango) off of their house special roll for some unusual but very good rolls. read more

I loved this place! Looks to be in an old church. We chose to sit at the sushi bar. Not only was our waitress insanely friendly but so was the sushi chef. We ordered the tuna sashimi appetizer.l and the gyoza. Both were delicious but the tuna was amazing. Great fresh cut of dark tuna, large portion. This was followed by the dragon roll and spicy tuna. I like Sake but I knocked off a star due to the cost. I find them a bit expensive for the food they provide. I get that you're paying for the ambiance but I actually preferred the old location, it was a lot less loud. That being said it is quality sushi that is some of the best in town. I feel Ichiban has the edge for consistency but I do like Sake a lot. I have also attended private parties here and I feel they do a spectacular job with that. Overall it's a great place for a date night aside from how loud it is (it was a church so the high ceilings don't provide much sound absorption. Nothing they can do about that) it's beautiful inside and a unique setting with quality food. They have more creative rollls but their traditional shine brightest in my opinion. read more

Went to have lunch here today. The waitress first brought us food that belonged to someone else. We told her she had the given the wrong order and she took it away. We then waited for nearly 40 minutes before I received my order, but not my wife's. It was 20 more minutes before she received hers. We ate the food except for the salmon we hadn't ordered. After waiting another 15-20 minutes for our waitress, we finally flagged another down to get our check. We told her we weren't going to pay for the salmon. At that point, she passed it on to the manager who came to the table to tell us it was our mistake and she would not remove it from the bill. I then told her if she didn't remove it, I wouldn't be paying for any of the bill. She still refused to credit the salmon and had the entire restaurant looking at us. My oldest brother eats out more than I do/ever did when I was living here in Pcola and recommended this place to me a handful of times. So when an old friend of mine (known her for over 10 years) and I decided to have lunch, we narrowed our choice to Sake Cafe. Having browsed the sushi menu online the night before, I knew the prices were decent if not better than some other nearby competitors (especially with a spider roll at $7.99). I was going to order a few rolls off the sushi menu until my friend pointed out a sushi lunch combo (2 rolls) for $7.99 (3 rolls for $10.99). Most of the time these sushi combos don't offer a good variety of rolls to choose from, but Sake Cafe actually had a list of decent rolls (6 to choose from including a volcano roll). I ordered the 2 roll combo with the snow crab roll and volcano roll, and my brother ordered the red dragon roll and a fuji yama roll (I think that's what it was called). Before we received our sushi we even got a bowl of soup (miso or chicken). The sushi was more than enough (and very tasty) for all of us (we all had leftovers) and our bill was less than $50 (2 sushi combos and 2 special rolls = 6 rolls altogether)! I would definitely come back here again as well as recommend this place to friends (especially after learning about their happy hour specials). read more

Very nice restaurant, you wouldn't be able to tell from looking at it from the outside. The ambience inside is very nice and they play soothing music while you eat. It isn't very loud inside despite offering hibachi options. Their happy hour is a great deal and can easily fill you up alone. It runs from 3pm-6pm daily. 3.99 rolls, appetizers, and 1.95 nigiri/sashimi. I ordered their spicy tuna roll and their salmon and avocado roll. Basic rolls but they were made with really fresh tasting fish. Their nigiri is great, and in some of them they had a little bit of wasabi in it. Will definitely recommend this place to others, but be sure to come specifically during their happy hour times! read more

I have been waiting to try Sake Cafe since I saw the remodeling occur while passing by. It did not disappoint! The staff were super friendly and attentive. The food was amazing. We were seated right away. Luckily, we arrived for their happy hour and the choices were great with a variety of raw or cooked sushi. Me and my daughter dined in the restaurant. I must admit it has been awhile since we have dined there. We ordered three sushi rolls, dumplings,egg rolls, softshell crab and chicken wings. The sushi rolls were good but the portions were smaller than other patrons at other tables. The dumplings were also adequate. The egg rolls were fine. The softshell crab was flavor less and fried so hard it cut my mouth up. The spicy wings had no seasonings on them and when we asked for them to be removed from our bill it was meet with contempt. The hostess said that they wouldn't put the spicy sauce on the spicy wing to accommodate. Well this employee took the same wings back to the kitchen and attempted to correct the problem by throwing sauce on the same wings we bit into once. Far to many so called "Japanese" restaurants these days don't offer a whole lot of Japanese cuisine other than sushi and stuff smothered in teriyaki sauce. Not the case at the Sake Cafe. This place offers a varied menu that is filled with Japanese goodies that one finds on menus all over Japan (Takoyaki, Ketsudon, Curry, to name a few.). I am updating my previous review. I genuinely love the sushi here. It is high quality fish and ingredients in my opinion. The inside of the restaurant is very inviting and open-concept. From previous times, the wait for my food with my boyfriend tends to be on the longer side. One time, we ordered three sushi rolls and it took an hour for us to get our food. The service is hit or miss depending on who you get. Some will keep your drinks refilled and some you won't see a very long time so ration your drinks wisely. One of the biggest complaints I have is when I order to go. They have recently begun adding a convenience charge to our bill which is a percentage of our total. I'm just not sure where the convenience is coming from when I call in an order, drive to the store myself, pick it up, without having to be wait on or serviced. They recently began this charge as I checked some of my older more recent receipts and there was no fee. It is the same for when you order online, which quotes you a different price. It is only when you get to the restaurant when they charge you the fee. There's a reason banks advertise "no hidden fees" because people typically don't like them. A lady sat behind us who overwhelmingly smelled as if she had shat herself and the strong poop smell compromised our appetites along with the strange, old taste of the sushi. Our waitress acted like she didn't know how to talk to people but was nice enough. We always tip well regardless. On top of everything, my boyfriend and I both were sick with diarrhea the next day for the entire day. Clearly something was off about the food because the only other thing we both ate was microwaveable Annie's gluten free mac and cheese. The first time we had infuriating service was gwhen she sent the wrong food out and I didn't want it, she told me "well now I have to pay for it". I've worked for a restaurant that made servers pay for every mistake and it's absurd. However the server was incredibly rude as if it were my fault. Tonight we ordered Postmates to deliver it. I wrote no massago, came with massago. I contacted the owners, same ones who make severs pay for any mistake, and they asked me why I can't just pick the massago off? Ooook. I hate to give such a bad review because the chef at the hibachi table was awesome and very entertaining. The food was great but the manager and owner were horrible. When the waitress closed out the bill she added the two other couples check onto our bill. It took over an hour to get the problem straightened. The owner finally gave them a $9.00 discount. I was super excited to try this place only to be let down. We walked In for lunch and only one other person was in there, so we were sat quickly. The server proceeded to take our drink order, bring our drinks then take our order. As time passes and more people fill the restaurant we notice we still haven't gotten our food yet others who came in after us are getting food. After 45 minutes they bring us our food but there appears to be raw salmon in one of my rolls instead of cooked so I let the server know I didn't want it because it looked raw. She has no clue what to do so she brings another lady of and she explains they smoke it, then put it in the cooler. I told her that's fine but I know smokes salmon and that's not it so I don't want the roll. So one of the chefs comes over and brings a whole freaking slab of salmon over to the table to wave in my face so I can see that's it's smoked. Not only does the smoked salmon he has in his hand not look like the "smoked salmon" in my roll all I can think is did he wave my salmon on someone else's face and it be contaminated because it left the prep area because he's toting it around in the middle of the restaurant?! Then the excuses of they are understaffed came, etc etc. I told him I wasn't happy, I didn't want the food we just wanted to pay and go. All he could do was offer 30% off, so whatever still wanted to just pay and go. The server keeps trying to give me a to go box after telling her 4 times we want to pay and leave and she's running around asking multiple people what to do and eventually someone else brings the check so we were finally able to pay and leave! 1 hour 20 minutes for all that ugh. Wasted $36, we leave go to sushi masa and get all you can eat Sushi for $16 each! So long story short I wasn't impressed with Sake and I won't be back! So I came from Hawaii to visit my dad( who is blind) and I don't know if the chef was thrown off by him, but defiantly was disappointed. Not a good show and did not do a good job, dropping his spatula several times and was very quiet. Overcooked food as well, when he asked how I liked my salmon cooked I said a little more and then 30 seconds later I told him it was good to take it off he said ohk but then left it on for another two minutes so it was not evenly cooked as well as over done After the show he went to the other table and his energy was very different more high energy smiling and laughing. So again got a little upset . As a chef myself it was not ohk to me. Only thing that was very good was my dynamite roll as well as my drink and miso soup. read more

Worst experience I've had in a long time in a resturant. I can handle slow service if it's attentive, but it took 38 minutes after we ordered to get our appetizers and another 25 after that to get our entrees which came out in five minute increments. The food when it finally arrived was ok. Our drinks were constantly empty which is a pet peeve of mine. It took 10 minutes to get check and when we did it had two sushi rolls we had not ordered. I ordered takeout for lunch today - Yaksoba Steak, lunch bento box, and an order of gyoza for me and a coworker. After ordering they called me back to confirm. When I arrived, I had to wait an additional 20 min until the food was ready and they succeeded in overcharging me $15 (charged for the dinner instead of the lunch - which they had called me back to confirm). The lady didn't speak English very well and made it impossible to correct being overcharged. But I was hungry and my coworkers were waiting, so I just took the food and left. Upon getting back to work (SH), I found that they didn't include the salad, the soup, and instead of gyoza they had some fried zucchini. Now my lunch hour is pretty much over and I need to see patients. I called during a break and after several return phone calls politely asking for a refund, "Tina" offered me a $25 store credit. Now don't forget, they already overcharged me $15. Now here is the best part - while attempting to eat what the did give me, I found a burnt bandaid or some kind of tape in my food! You won't find better sushi closer than New Orleans or Atlanta. The takoyaki is on point; even on Oahu I never had better, and sometimes it reminds me of some I had at street festivals in Japan; I always order it. The seaweed salad is refreshing. They have REAL sake! Suitable for drinking! I have looked and looked, and I literally don't know any other place in the entire panhandle where you can buy ANY middle or top shelf sake, and they have a variety! They've also got a good selection of Japanese whiskey, as well as the normal western stuff and beer you find in most American dining establishments. My liquor stores can't get this stuff, so I sometimes just buy full bottles direct from the restaurant. You can get some high-grade sashimi here (abalone and such), and it's competently cut and served. The rice is properly cooked and sushi'd. It's always tasty and satisfying. There are boxes of pockey for the kiddies, and also those marble-bottles of sugary Ramune. They've got little grills, and presumably there are some teppanyaki or yakiniku options available, but every time I've been there I've just gorged on sashimi, nigiri, and of course the takoyaki and seaweed salad. There are one or two other places that make edible sushi in the panhandle area, but they aren't close to as good. Even in coastal Japan, this place would merit three stars. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I'm really looking forward to going back once public dining is possible for me again. I miss Sake Cafe at least once a week. read more

Good experience. Overall, the food and service were good. The service started off great, but as they got busier, I was left waiting a lot. The happy hour sushi specials are a great deal. The rolls are made well and the rice is fresh. The gyoza was especially good. Made fresh and on the spot. I did not have a chance to try any of their main dishes though, maybe next time. The Nigiri was good, but some of the pieces did not seem to fresh. The restaurant decor and cleanliness was good though. The building was renovated just for the restaurant and it was nice.
