Glad to find this cozy neighborhood spot with authentic Japanese vibes. We enjoyed some yakitori: shisito pepppers, pork belly, gizzards, chicken cartilage, and chicken skin. My husband's favorite was the pork belly and I liked the chicken skin-could be slightly crispier. Also had some nigiri: yellowtail, salmon, and unagi-the fish was fresh and delicious. Found a new gem! Very authentic vibes, great service and friendly staff. They have a large menu with a bit of everything. I am gluten free and was limited in my food choices. The waitress walked me through what I could eat, which was mostly any skewers (no sauce) and any sushi rolls that don't have spicy sauce plus a few appetizers. Their sushi rice might have mirin, so be careful if you have celiac. I have a mild sensitivity and it didn't bother me at all. I ordered chicken heart and chicken liver skewers and 2 rolls. Luckily, they carry tamari (gluten free soy sauce). Overall, everything tasted great and I'll definitely be back! read more

I used to like this place, referred friends, and was a returning customer until tonight. The waitress was so rude and scolded at us on changing a sake bottle. We ordered a small bottle and decided to change to a large. We asked to change to a large bottle before they even brought out the bottle. Then they messed up our order on beef skewers and brought out pork belly instead. They took back 2 pork skewers and brought out the beef skewers but it tasted very weird that I spitted it out. The food did not taste fresh. I have been here multiple times before and know what to expect. It seems fresh, and we loved the rice to fish ratio. We ordered yakitori - chicken heart & pork belly. The chicken heart yakitori was probably one of the best hearts i had at a yakitori place. The service was not great. We came in because we loved the ambiance. It's really cute with a great personal feel. I ordered the Yuko Sake and it tasted like straight up simple syrup. I'm not usually one to send anything back but it was so sweet it was upsetting my stomach. I asked if there was anything they could do and the response was no. The waiter and I went back and forth three separate times before she demanded I pick a different drink... which was what I asked for the first time. Eventually she just took it back and off the bill. Idk, it just felt like I was handled roughly and being the only Black folks in here we also heard slurs coming from the table next to us. Needless to say I did not feel welcomed here. The portions here are ridiculously small. We ordered 2 dishes just as a light snack but they were so small. See images for the ridiculous size of this. We got the mini Ikura Bowl ($8) and the salmon yuzu ($13) and the portion was literally 1/4 of an appetizer. With the amount of money you are paying and portion size that you receive, expect to spend literally $40-$50 a person to be full which literally goes against the entire spirit of izakaya which should be cheap affordable bar food. Yes, I understand "American" izakaya is more inflated but this is straight highway robbery. On top of that, they charge a 4.39% transaction fee on credit cards. My favorite thing on the menu is a pork belly skewer. Today I had a beef bowl ($15) and a yellowtail cut roll with 8 pieces for $8.00. Fish is fresher than pictures will show. The lighting in the restaurant matches the interior design but not great for photos. I'll take the ambience. Not pictured is the pork belly yakitori skewer ($7) that comes with two skewers per order. This place is very good! All the times that I've been here the experience is always pleasant. The service is the friendliest, Amy was amazing! All their rolls are very good, but some of my favorites from the many are the chicken hearts and livers, you don't find those too often and they make them super tasty. Also, they have this cool thing that you can get your bottle and come back and finish it on a different day. The place gets a bit got inside but they also have outside seating. Highly underrated restaurant! I can't believe I haven't been here yet, I am across the street at All Seasons all the time visiting my friends that work there. I got the mini ikura don and i think they marinate their ikura in house because it was phenomenal, salty and savory at the same time and so so fresh. It was a perfect mini amount as well. I also got the mini uni don and holy hell, the uni piece was HUGE and it was soooooooooo buttery. Idk where they get their uni but it was one of the best I've had recently. The tako wasabi was also perfect. It had the perfect amount of wasabi and the tako was so fresh and had a great texture. My fried rice was absolutely delicious, especially with its crispy bits! My dad also liked his Korean crispy rice dish. They were both served in a hot bowl. So good, and enough to eat some for lunch the next day! The asparagus skewers were also enjoyable. The chicken and rice dish was less good, but still tasty. Lovely place. I knew I was getting in late on a Monday. Everything closes at 10pm except this late night gem. This spot was everything expected from reviews. Sapporo on draft an wider range of Japanese food & lots of vegetable dishes. I got shishitos, beef skewers, yellowtail scallion roll. Not really a high end sushi place but great fresh well made food. Service was delightfully warm & friendly. I appreciated they found me a table where I could stash my carry-on bag nearby. Got some advice to try the seasoned shishitos over the skewer shishitos - and the waitress said if I didn't like them she'd get me the others - but she was spot on! I'm so happy to find a new spot! This is also across from the large outdoor brewery / Firestone place. Which probably has food but I'd much prefer to walk across for this. Also there were about 3 tables of people speaking Japanese which is always a good sign. read more

I had a bluefin crab hand roll, very little crab, beefed the roll with cucumbers and rice- lame. Gave you old cucumbers with gross sauce- uneatable. Beer was not cold :\ This place is not for me. After dining here with my friends, none of us sincerely understood how this place had a 4-star rating (maybe we should've noticed that Sapporo was the third most-mentioned item on their extensive menu). I decided to take our collective experience, make my way to this page, sort the reviews by lowest rated, and compare the reviews to said experience. Looking past the typical, angry customers venting about poor customer service on a busy weekend night, the awful parking situation (it's LA), or incorrectly delivered items I found a few things that aligned with our experience. The initial interaction about an appetizer dish with our waiter should've been a super, red flag: Me: What's the sauce on this cucumber? Waiter: That's uhh...it's like a Korean sauce. Us: Oh... The yakitori wasn't cooked on charcoal grills and definitely not using anything near the usual binchotan charcoal. This is where we spent the bulk of our money (~$60 worth) and every single skewer was just meh - mild in flavor and no flavoring from coals. Extremely disappointing to say the least. The food truly is mediocre. You can pay the same amount at other (actually authentic) Japanese restaurants for better quality fish and attention to detail. According to multiple 5-star reviews, rolls seem to be the highlight of the restaurant. But to me, rolls are such an easy way to mask fish quality because of the amount of sauce and toppings used. Now some of you might contest that giving this restaurant 2 stars is harsh, but according to Yelp a 2-star rating is "could've been better". This restaurant definitely could've been better and there are plenty of nearby establishments that back this statement up. I'll only be back in the future if I'm hungry after having multiple brews at All Season Brewing across the street. read more

Our favorite sake/soju spot! My go to is the salmon belly yakitori. They give you 2 skewers for $6. If you buy a bottle and not able to finish it, you can leave it there and come back and drink it on your next visit. Wish it was a lot more spots like this! Came in yesterday for dinner and I can't believe I'm pretty late to the game. My friend had always recommended it to me and we finally went! This place is not related to the other Sake House in Koreatown, separate businesses and different owners. Food is still delicious! The menu is pretty big so lots of options- we got shrimp tempura, chicken & beef & pork skewers and a bulgogi bowl to share. The bulgogi bowl may have been my favorite. They give you a big bowl of bulgogi meat with sesame seeds, an uncooked egg and another bowl of rice. You then mix it all together to make some sort of kimbap type of bowl in a hot stone pot. This was definitely my favorite thing here because it was full of flavor. The spicy miso hot sauce they gave us went well with the skewers as well. Very juicy and not dry- unfortunately most places mess up skewers. Interior is a bit small so definitely keep in mind when coming on a weekend- I can see it getting packed late at night. But I really think the service here is A+ status. We were greeted and seated immediately and the entire staff was very nice to us. Our food came out very quickly despite we came on a Sunday night during primetime dinner time! Would recommend and I will be bringing my friends here this weekend! read more

Came at 6:30pm on a Sunday. The only table they would allow us to sit at was either in the way back or we could wait till the two top by the Goodwill driveway opened up. Look at the photos. They had so many tables available. They would not let us sit at any of the tables circled in red. I worked in restaurants for five years and understand not wanting to give a 4 tops away to a party of two... So I told him that they could have a table back whenever they wanted but we just wanted to grab a quick bite and didn't want to sit in the driveway or at the back. They refused. Super disappointing.
