    Found a new gem! Very authentic vibes, great service and friendly staff. They have a large menu with a bit of everything. I am gluten free and was limited in my food choices. The waitress walked me through what I could eat, which was mostly any skewers (no sauce) and any sushi rolls that don't have spicy sauce plus a few appetizers. Their sushi rice might have mirin, so be careful if you have celiac. I have a mild sensitivity and it didn't bother me at all. I ordered chicken heart and chicken liver skewers and 2 rolls. Luckily, they carry tamari (gluten free soy sauce). Overall, everything tasted great and I'll definitely be back!

    Yellowtail roll

    I love this place. It's kitschy and no fuss but feels like an escape from homogenous Tulum looking restaurants that pervade the city. They also have large Sapporo on Draft for $9.00. My favorite thing on the menu is a pork belly skewer. Today I had a beef bowl ($15) and a yellowtail cut roll with 8 pieces for $8.00. Fish is fresher than pictures will show. The lighting in the restaurant matches the interior design but not great for photos. I'll take the ambience. Not pictured is the pork belly yakitori skewer ($7) that comes with two skewers per order. The staff is friendly and attentive. No complaints. I come here a lot.

    The portions here are ridiculously small. We ordered 2 dishes just as a light snack but they were so small. See images for the ridiculous size of this. We got the mini Ikura Bowl ($8) and the salmon yuzu ($13) and the portion was literally 1/4 of an appetizer. With the amount of money you are paying and portion size that you receive, expect to spend literally $40-$50 a person to be full which literally goes against the entire spirit of izakaya which should be cheap affordable bar food. Yes, I understand "American" izakaya is more inflated but this is straight highway robbery. On top of that, they charge a 4.39% transaction fee on credit cards. Would not recommend this place unless you're ready to pay fine dining prices for izakaya food.

    This place is very good! All the times that I've been here the experience is always pleasant. The service is the friendliest, Amy was amazing! All their rolls are very good, but some of my favorites from the many are the chicken hearts and livers, you don't find those too often and they make them super tasty. Also, they have this cool thing that you can get your bottle and come back and finish it on a different day. The place gets a bit got inside but they also have outside seating. Highly recommend this place!

    This is a must go if you are in the La Brea area of Los Angeles! Sushi is always on point, my favorite being the Yellow tail truffle roll, with the Yakitori choices being fantastic!! A lot of great choices!! One of my favorites go to places!!

    This is a cute little place off of La Brea. I like sitting patio because the inside is small and tables are very close together. The service was excellent and they were very attentive. The food was perfect..... it was fresh, hot, and tasty. I will be. Coming back.

    Highly underrated restaurant! I can't believe I haven't been here yet, I am across the street at All Seasons all the time visiting my friends that work there. I got the mini ikura don and i think they marinate their ikura in house because it was phenomenal, salty and savory at the same time and so so fresh. It was a perfect mini amount as well. I also got the mini uni don and holy hell, the uni piece was HUGE and it was soooooooooo buttery. Idk where they get their uni but it was one of the best I've had recently. The tako wasabi was also perfect. It had the perfect amount of wasabi and the tako was so fresh and had a great texture. My friends also got some other things and they were all great but I wanted to highlight the three items i got. I'll definitely come back often!

It was as good as I remembered, and probably even better. I can't imagine letting another eight and a half years pass without going back. The only negative is that parking is either difficult or $15, which feels bad in a pretty quiet residential area. Better to take a car in any case, so you can enjoy the extensive selection of sakes. We shared a full-sized bottle, I forget which but I think it was a junmai daiginjo, and it was lovely. Tsubaki is such a nice, welcoming little izakaya. Service is great, the atmosphere warm and easy. You just want to sit back and drink at a leisurely pace. The food is excellent, with a robust menu of creative Japanese food. We shared everything, starting with a stellar kanpachi crudo with ume ponzu, shiso, sweet onion and habanero pickles, and furikake. My favorite dish of the night was the tsukune katsu. I love tsukune, the tare-glazed chicken meatballs you'll find in any yakitori place. This was my first time having them in katsu form, panko-fried and served over cabbage with Kewpie mayo and tonkatsu sauce. The chawanmushi was delicious, silky steamed egg custard topped with Dungeness crab, truffle salt, and mitsuba. Likewise the kinoko tempura, an array of maitake, shiitake, and enoki mushrooms fried light and crispy, with yuzu shichimi and tentsuyu for dipping. We got a skewer of bonchiri from the yakitori menu, delightfully chewy bites of charcoal-grilled jidori chicken tail. Finally, a plate of yakisoba, pan-fried noodles with house-cured Peads & Barnetts char siu, pickled green garlic, and cracklin. We got the hojicha parfait, and it was more or less my ideal dessert. Roasted green tea soft serve with sesame black sugar burnt miso and candied walnuts with cornflake dust. Cold, light, sweet. I could eat a whole one by myself pretty much any time. After nine years in business, Tsubaki feels like an Echo Park institution, and the kitchen is as strong as ever. This was a wonderful dinner, one I hope to repeat soon, with more sake, more yakitori, and more hojicha parfait.

And I'm going to to say the chicken oysters- I think they were grilled to perfection with a tiny bit of wasabi. It's so hard to pick, everything tasted amazing and you can tell everything is thoughtfully prepared and well crafted with a beautiful presentation. I really enjoyed the food here and will be back to try more items.
