The five-piece nigiri set runs through kanpachi (greater amberjack), hamachi (yellowtail), bincho (albacore), salmon, and hon-maguro -- Spanish bluefin from the Almadraba traps off Cádiz. That last one is the prestige fish here and worth the price line; texture and fat are in a different league than the rest of the set. Cooked side: the Musume wings are sticky, glossy, sweet-soy -- the kind of glaze that catches the light. The crunchy roll (spicy tuna + crispy onion + eel sauce) gives you the textural payoff in one bite. The crispy tuna bites (caviar + jalapeño + sriracha aioli over crisp rice) are the hero -- order them whether or not you do the rolls. Closer was an unagi don, glaze on the eel doing the heavy lifting. Service from T. was on point the whole meal. Room is small and lights are low -- book ahead for groups. Nothing beats fresh high quality sushi and this place definitely got it! We ordered the beef bowl, yellowtail crudo, truffle salt edamame, and musume roll. We also got their shaved ice matcha for dessert. The beef bowl is big enough to share between 2 people in addition to other rolls. The staff were very friendly and attentive too. We were seated at the bar and the chef gave us a rundown of what to expect and their suggestions too. Very chill guy and offered us a seared salmon freestyle he made. Truly some of the best sushi I've had in LA. Have also had sushi in Japan and Hawaii and the fish quality, flavors, and menu items are very comparable. We had two hand rolls (yellowtail and blue crab) and they were incredibly delicious - perfect ratio of rice to fish (and very generous portion of fish), rice was warm and fresh, and the nori was wrapped in a way that secured the hand roll and still had a light crunch. Their house made Tonkostu ramen is a must. Extremely clean broth bursting with flavor. Matcha beer is something I've mostly seen in Japan but it's the perfect drink to pair with fresh sushi. To top it all off, they are so sweet and kind - always checking in on you but in a subtle way. And the restaurant is gorgeous inside (beautiful seating and dishes) and comfortably minimalist. This is one of our favorite Japanese restaurants in LA. And the best part is that it doesn't break the bank! We've been here for brunch and dinner. First of all, it's a pretty lowkey place - it's easy to walk by and you don't even know that you walked past it. The Tekka bowl, the Kaisen don along with their hand rolls have fresh fish. And they definitely put a good amount in the dishes. Everything's so flavorful. As for the non-sushi items, the chicken karage is pretty good too. Service is exceptional and parking's sometimes a bit complicated. If you can et a spot in the back, it's pay the valet whatever you want. For street parking, you got to go more into the residential areas but it's not a bad walk. Otherwise, I highly recommend Musume for a casual lunch/dinner if you are already in the area. read more

Hidden gem of a restaurant! I recently came for a dinner on a Wednesday night from a friend's reccomendation, and this place was sooo good. The customer service was amazing, the owner was super sweet and offered us extra salmon pieces to try. The inside of the restaurant has such a nice clean looking aesthetic, everything was so well thought out from the interior of the restaurant to all the dishes we tried. As a big Japanese food lover, I am sooo happy this new Japanese spot opened near me! The tekka don was probably the best tuna bowl I've ever had and their happy hour deals were very reasonably priced (I got the shima aji crudo and it did not disappoint). Super quick service and really excellent quality of fish and presentation. It is a great switch up from the Sugarfish nearby, which doesn't have much variation if you're going often. The fish quality was average, with thin slices on Al Dente rice, but the biggest surprise was the overwhelming sweetness in everything. The rice, every sauce--everything had a noticeable sweetness that was overpowering. Here's what we ordered: * Garlic Shishito: Nicely spicy, but the shishito peppers had a tough, inedible skin. * Agedashi Tofu: The texture of the tofu was good, but again, it was very sweet. * Miso Soup: This was tasty and enjoyable. * Sushi: Yellowtail Belly, Salmon Belly, Shima Aji, and Amberjack were all average, each with its own special sauce, but yet again, all overly sweet. Came across this on Yelp, as a new spot that just opened up. Parking was fairly easy to find, valet parking available in the back and plenty of street parking on the side. Our server was super attentive and would occasionally check in on us. The restaurant is in a fairly small place, but the interior was so modern and minimal looking. It gave off casual, but contemporary dining. The silverware's and dishes were so sleek, the overall ambiance was just so aesthetic. For the price we paid for dinner, with the amount of dishes we got including dessert, I would say this was a fairly priced spot. Since coming back from Japan, we haven't had a decent place to eat out, since Japan has set the standards high for us. However, this place met those expectations. Everything was so fresh and made with so much flavor. The beef clay pot rice was so tender and seasoned perfectly, which paired well with the garlic rice. Our sashimi came with a bowl of rice and seafood, so that we could pair them together. Even the white rice itself was seasoned and had a slight hint of sweetness. As for the dessert, I loved how it was not too sweet and not too overbearing, it was a light dessert that was great to end the meal. At the end of our meals, we were even given a complimentary chef's special of mixed sashimi with crab meat on top (so perfect!). I could go on about this spot, but this place was just as comparable as the meals I had in Japan and also very similar to Izakaya Osen but a way better price point.
