Ordered the "mad mushroom" Philly cheesesteak. It was delicious! The shaved ribeye makes a difference because you can taste the quality. I will be back to try different menu items. If you are from up North, it is not your typical deli, where you walk in and see different deli meats and options displayed, and different bagels with cream cheese assortments. No napkins, no cutlery even though we ordered pasta salad, was a decent pasta salad. Not sure how we were expected to eat it. The bacon cheese fries are wrapped in tin foil, and the cheese is melted to the foil, so the fries were basically plain. We ordered the saks Cuban, which was beyond dry. Description says mustard but there was NOTHING on this sandwich. We also ordered the Philly and it was beyond dry. Was in the area on a Saturday afternoon and decided to give Sak's a try. Walked into a small dining area and was greeted right away. This is a full service business. The decor is sandwich shop style with various local food items for sale on shelves against one wall. Our drink order was taken immediately which is all bottled/canned items. The menu is brought up on a smart device or a pad offered by establishment. My wife ordered the philly mushroom cheesesteak and I the spicy cold hoagie. The philly had a good amount of beef and mushroom. My hoagie had an adequate amount of meat, cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. I was surprised the hoagie came dry with no mayo, mustard or oil. When I asked for some mayo there was no problem. Each of our orders came with a side which my wife asked for potato salad and I got macaroni salad. Both were ok. I thought the value for what was recieved is a little high. The young lady serving us was pleasant. When we received the bill I see a Service Fee charge for 92 cents. I honestly wasn't a fan of the hash browns, which is all that made this review a 4 instead of a 5. They had somewhat of an odd, undercooked texture. Would definitely return, though. I brought my kid there yesterday and let me just say that $13-$14 for a Philly cheesesteak in my opinion is ridiculous. I ordered a side of pasta salad and it came in a small little 2-3 ounce ramekin. For that price don't be so cheap. I lived up north for years and this is nothing like it. The bread was stale and it wasn't even toasted. The steak tasted like that frozen steak-ums you buy and you can make at your home. Not my thing, I think they can do better. Ditto the Cheesesteaks, the Italian hoagie, and all the rest. Service is always friendly and prompt. The place is small but inviting and feels like a family-owned and operated local place should. This place is a GEM!! I'm so happy that my boyfriend and I decided to have lunch here on Saturday!! We had to pick up my car from the Chevy dealership, and I suggested to stop here on the way out to Wendell. I picked Saks because of all the amazing Yelp reviews. Upon walking into this establishment, we were greeted by our waitress, who turned out to be one of the owners; her husband is the cook. We were the first customers of the day, since they just opened, but not for long! Lol. This place is so cute and welcoming!! I loved the decor. You can dine in, or get carryout. We decided to dine in. After reviewing the menu in advance, I had my heart set on a chicken cheesesteak.....BUT my eyes caught a glimpse of the specials and I had to change my mind!! The specials were fish or grilled shrimp tacos with Sriracha fries. I got the shrimp tacos and a spiked seltzer water. My boyfriend ordered half of the Italian sub and fries. I was nervous about the Sriracha fries being too spicy, but the wonderful waitress/owner said that they just had a nice kick, so I went with her recommendation. Our food was delivered to our table pretty quickly. I was so excited to try my shrimp tacos!! They were stuffed with chopped up shrimp, in tortillas that were held together with gooey pimento cheese, and they were topped with a delicious pico de gallo and slaw. OMG, these tacos were soooooooooo packed with shrimp!! I was almost full after eating (1) taco. But I ate both of my tacos and my fries!! Lol. These tacos and fries were AMAZING. My boyfriend's Italian sub (I took a picture of this beauty, wait till you see it - keep in mind, this is only HALF of a sub!!) was beautiful. I don't know how else to describe it. My boyfriend is an Italian sub "snob" since he used to work for a pizza joint in his teens, and he made awesome Italian subs that he still craves to this day. He said that Saks Italian sub was one of the best he's ever had. He loved the bread, and the chopped up yellow peppers were a very nice touch. He said it was just delicious and very gourmet. Saks is definitely going to be my "I have to eat here" restaurant whenever I'm in Clayton. The owners are super cool and sweet, and they care about their customers and the food. The staff was delightful and kept my wife and me engaged in conversation with suggestions (honest ones he told me not to buy a spread I was going to purchase), food picks, and the company History. It took maybe 15 minutes to have our order ready. The owner gave my wife and me free desserts and seasoning to try. We ordered the spicy Italian sub (not spicy at all, but good and filling!) and packaged the oil, vinegar, and dressing on the side to keep the sub from getting soggy. I ordered the antipasto side and pasta salad. The pasta salad was ok, but when I added a bit of pepper and Italian dressing, it was delicious. The antipasto was mine and very filling as a protein-rich side. The sub was an all-day meal. My wife ordered the veggie cheesesteak, and she enjoyed it as well. The cheesecake was perfect, not tart as most are. The chicane cake was very rich and moist. I'm not a massive fan of chocolate, but I enjoyed it, minus all the icing on the outside of the cake. The food is hit or miss here. The last order I got to go, they threw my fries in this small bag and they were all laying at the bottom. I just threw them away. The panini's are usually good. I recommend wrapping the fries in paper instead of throwing them in the bottom of the bag. read more

I really wanted a corn beef sandwich today! My family doesn't like corn beef so I thought this would be a good alternative to homemade corn beef brisket. It wasn't. It was dry, little meat for $15 sandwich ( yeah no sides just the sandwich.) the bread is good and that was pretty much all I could taste. The corn beef was tough and dry. There was only a couple small pieces in the center of the bread. Small piece of cheese I didn't taste the thousand island. So, very disappointed! read more
