I ate at Saks Deli tonight for the first time. I went there after a soccer game with part of my team. Everyone tried different items and everyone left happy. The ambience is simply, but cozy. I'm a New Yorker, so delis are a delicate subject and I'll only comment when something is exceptional...and this was exceptional. Ended up ordering a chicken parm grinder with fries and I was not disappointed. The chicken cutlet was cooked perfectly with the right amount of provolone and sauce with a healthy taste of oregano along with crispy, but not greasy fries and I'm telling you that Saks is the best bang for your buck. Not a real deli, bought a roast beef half sub, it had 2 1/2 slices of roast beef. Not a large selection.

We were craving a Reuben and Sak's showed up as the nearest place. So we stopped in. The Reuben was perfection: delicious beef on an amazing marbled rye. The Philly cheesesteak was on the softest hoagie role that absorbed the juice from the beef. Both of us had a side of their homemade potato chips. Stop in if you're nearby! read more

We've come for lunch and they're closed and for dinner and they're closed, so look up their limited hours before heading over. We went in tonight to grab some subs to go. They close at 8 so we got there at 7. The woman tells us we can either grab a table or wait 30-35 min for a to go order. I turn around and only 3 couples are sitting at tables. We left and got our subs at Firehouse. This is not run as a business but as a little side job to keep someone busy. Not worth the effort. read more

My husband and I ate here for supper. We shared a bowl of cream of asparagus soup which happened to be pretty amazing. He got a stuffed chicken sandwich and loaded fries. He enjoyed his meal. I got a buffalo chicken sub and chips. Mine was also delicious. My only complaint was the ranch sauce. I love ranch for dipping and their ranch looked and tasted just like mayonnaise. Great find! Using your GPS is a must in order to find it and we are glad we did. The place is clean and tidy. You place your order at the window and they bring it to you. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and my husband had the Philly cheesesteak. YUM!! I took a bite of his and I wish I would have gotten the Philly cheesesteak, the meat was fresh and perfectly combined with real cheese and caramelized onions. I loved both sandwiches and next time I'll have my buffalo chicken in a salad, I'm sure that would taste even better (I'm not a big bread person). The only thing I was not crazy about was having a special for three sandwiches that have fries and a drink. Please, please change the menu to combine the fries and not as a special, it seems expensive to have just a sandwich with no side. I would charge maybe a little bit extra and just add the side especially for a kids meal. Overall great food, prices are ok and the service was good. I'm pretty sure we'll be back soon. read more

First time here, had hard time finding it first off, no signage outside. Second, when I ordered (prosciutto, genoa salami, pepperoni, capitols with provolone was awesome.... BUT way to expensive for the size. $8.00 for the 7in and $10.00 for the 12in. This did not include a side or drink. It's $1.50 more for fountain drink and bag of chips. I would come back if they lower the price. Service was ok and the place was clean. That's about it. I love local restaurants but don't over price your stuff to were your locals won't come back. Came in on a Saturday about 2:00 PM for late lunch and party of 4. Place was clean, simple and small. No Blue Moon or any pale ale beer, not sure why? Didn't have everything in the menu we wanted to order, no food. Desert availability was weak too, nothing close to fresh except maybe a cookie. Very disappointed, had hoped for more. Very good meal. I had a turkey, ham and cheese sandwich with fries. Portion was quite generous and food was very good. Restaurant appeared clean. Nice variety to choose from. "Sak's Deli" should be the only two words on your mind at lunchtime. Hands down best sub spot in Clayton. Every visit I'm greeted with smiling faces from the friendly staff and the menu is filled with plenty of options that are made to your liking with no problem. It's nothing like fresh bread and a endless selection of meats to go with it. Sak's Deli really makes lunchtime less predictable than most places. The food is great, and the servings are huge. But they had no hot drinks, including coffee, which might not have been quite as much of an issue if the heat had been on. The temp outside was 38°. It was FREEZING in the restaurant, and when we mentioned it we didn't get much of a reply. I heard someone at a table next to us also ask if the heat was on. The waitress said it was on low because they get hot working in the kitchen. Ummm, just a thought guys, but you might want to keep your customers warm. I Wanted a good sandwich place close to home and I found it today. The pizza steak sub was amazing and the fries were some of the best I've ever had. The staff is nice and the restaurant is clean. If you want good food and friendly service this is the place, plus they have different types of beer for everyone. All in all one of the most satisfying meals I've had in a long time. Best sandwich shop in the Clayton/Garner area, hands down. Certainly puts the chains (Jersey Mike's & Subway, to the like) to shame. Their bread is exceptional, and cheeses aren't the most common amongst delis (they have a Munster cheese sandwich). While the food is fantastic, the employees and owner(a) are the most polite people in the food industry. It's not a huge menu, but don't let that turn you away; you can create your own sandwiches if you'd prefer. read more

VALUE . Such a strong word. People tend to think of the word "value", in the realm of food being inexpensive, it's far from the truth. Value is the COST compared to the QUALITY of the product sold. Sak's sandwiches are fresh. So fresh that they don't even have a microwave in their kitchen. Think about the last place that you ate, that didn't have a microwave. Cheese is melted in the oven, or on the grill, food is never reheated. End of story ! I highly recommend the Philly cheese steak, it's as good as anyone's, anywhere. The buffalo chicken, meatball parm, and #2 Italian sub are also in the same class. The VALUE is there. The place is very clean. The atmosphere is comfortable. What else do you want ? Think of the garbage served in other places, and the loud crude people that are there.
