Go through my reviews, and you'll be hard-pressed to find too many lowball 1-3's. I'm relatively easy to please, and willing to forgive a lot of questionable food/service, all in the name of giving a second, third... sixth try, but I'm not sure I've got it in me to be too generous any more to this place. While I'm not expecting a "top of the line" authentic Japanese gourmet deluxe here, I was hoping for a bit of a better experience than our last visit, especially as they've just remodeled/reopened on the other side of the building they used to share with a 24hr fitness gym. I think just about all of their efforts and attentions go to the hibachi "show," while those of us just ordering a regular meal off of the menu seem to be semi-forgotten afterthoughts. While our food and service weren't terrible, for the prices we paid (not quite the top $$ hibachi rates, but not that cheap either...) We were the only ones not eating on the hibachi side Friday evening, so while we didn't expect all the same "pomp and circumstance," we did at least expect a half-way decent dining experience. Instead, we felt rushed, overlooked, and (am I being toooooooooo sensitive?!?) as if we were a slight annoyance. People coming in to pick up take out orders seemed to get better service/attention. Plus (my bad for ordering it, I guess) the Pad Thai was AWFUL, though the Mr. was happy with his steak teriyaki, and our appetizer (beef gyoza) and sushi (sweet potato roll and a spicy tuna roll) were both ok. All in all, I suppose you could do a lot worse, but you SHOULD be able to do much better here than we did, and while I wish them well with their new, updated setting, I can't see how that will happen if the hibachi side (special occasion, not usually regular customers...) and take out orders seem to have priority over those who come in to enjoy a well prepared and thoughtfully presented sampling of their regular menu items. read more

We got take out, 2 orders of: Chicken and Salmon Hibachi The rice was good The noodles tasted good but were stuck in one clump and a bit overcooked or warmed too long. The chunks of chicken were tasty but a bit tough and chewy, exactly like microwave cooked meat. The salmon was tasty but DRY and a bit chewy. All food came in cheap Styrofoam containers which is unhealthy for hot foods. Quality places charge a bit more and properly consider what their carryout containers are and use better quality to-go containers . Disappointed all around. read more

I hate to write bad reviews, but this place is truly the bottom of the barrel as far as food quality goes. Had the Chicken and Scallops, Filet and Scallops and my son had the kids steak meal. The lo mein noodles were mushy and flavorless. The filet was definitely not a filet, over cooked and not tender at all. The sushi was inedible. Had the California Roll and Spicy Tuna and both were yuck. The only decent item was the fried rice. For the price you pay, they are making a killing serving garbage food. We were seated promptly. Hostess was polite but not necessarily friendly. I've found this to be the case often with new restaurants. Prolly nerves :) Took 15 minutes for them take our order. Too long. Nice server, but he was learning too. Chef was very friendly and funny. a couple of little booboos but perfectly normal for a new place. Ordered Hibachi chicken. Came with a salad. Salad came out quickly. Ingredients were very fresh. Tasty salad Chicken was fantastic. A great quality of chicken cooked perfectly, and wonderful flavor. Serving sizes are just right. Some might think they are small, but for the quality and price, they are good. A little slow on the refills. Our chef was great with kids. We decided to try out Sakura instead of Sake last night and I'm so glad we did. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The staff was super friendly and accommodating, the time to wait for food was pretty quick being that it was 6PM On a Saturday! And the food, oh the food was amazing! We got drinks, appetizers, hibachi entrees, regular entrees and sushi and it was all amazing. I recommend the Sakatini, Zombie, Cosmopolitan, California Roll w/ Spicy Mayo, rainbow roll, cherry blossom roll, potstickers, Sakura rangoons, any hibachi entree, and pad Thai! My husband and I are always looking for more Japanese restaurants to fall in love with (hello, Japanese Steakhouse in Columbus!), so we decided to try out Sakura in Springfield. If we could give 1/2 stars on Yelp I would definitely be giving this place a 3.5 out of 5. A 4 star rating seems a bit generous, but we actually enjoyed most of the food and the interior was nice and clean so a 3 just wouldn't be fair. When we first entered the restaurant at about 3:00 pm, all of the overhead lights in the hibachi dining area were turned off and it was pitch black. They said they could turn on the lights for us if we wanted a show, or we could sit in the bar area without a show which is what we chose. I had a bowl of the hot and sour soup, which was just okay. Not a ton of flavor but it was full of mushrooms and other chunks so that was a plus. For my meal I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box, which was awesome! The chicken was grilled with sauce and very tasty and served on top of grilled onions and green pepper, but you also got a side of fried veggies (not greasy and super delicious!), 2 steamed pot stickers (great, especially when dipped in the little portion of sauce they give you), and 4 little crab and avocado sushi (I'm not a fan of any sushi or avocado, so I wasn't into these at all). My husband ordered the Katsu, which was a flattened chicken breast lightly breaded and fried but not greasy, sliced and served over shredded cabbage. You also got a side of dipping sauce which tasted great on the very simple yet delicious chicken. Waitress was friendly but couldn't really explain a lot of the meals to us, and it was weird being in a pitch black restaurant in the middle of the day for lunch, but the bar area looked very cool and when we left they were turning neon lights around the hibachi grills on, which also looked pretty neat. We were very impressed with our entrees and the super affordable prices, so I could definitely see us going back again in the future. Though it wasn't on Japanese Steakhouse level it was leaps and bounds above any Chinese buffet you'll find on every corner so it's nice to have a tasty Japanese option a little closer to us than Columbus. read more

As a delivery driver I am disgusted at how I was treated. 45 minutes in their lobby and was ignored the entire time. Several attempts were made to get help, but apparently no employees wanted to help delivery/take out orders. The woman whom I believe is the owner??? Made eye contact several times and rang to the back. Needless to say the customer didnt get their food! I think they forget delivery drivers are customers also, and I will NEVER give them my business ever again! read more

This used to be the Golden Bowl, my favorite buffet, so I was sad to see it go... but when I arrived here, my jaw dropped. The inside of the restaurant is really pretty, and there's a real koi pond! The hostess, being new to the job, didn't really know what to do. She just seated me and my dad without asking if we wanted sushi or hibachi. I ordered the chicken bento lunch special, which was delicious! The sushi options were OK, not the best. The dessert menus is just ice cream and fried ice cream. The prices are pretty good, and the portions are perfect. It's kind of hard to overeat here, which is nice. I would give it a 3-star, but I bet it's a total party in the evenings. Oh! We visited Sakura twice this month and were very happy overall. Very clean and the staff was friendly and diligent. We had 2 different chefs in our visits; both were very entertaining and did a great job with our food. I'd say average price per person is between $20-30 depending on whether you have an adult beverage. Just remember part of the price is the "show". read more

We see the sign says 50% off and we all 3 go for sushi then we are sat and we had about 20 minutes to order she takes everything brings out one persons roll and as she starts eating says her by the way these rolls aren't half off anymore! Like you have a sign outside that says so I feel like they only do that to entice people to come in and order tell them and people feel "well we already are here and ordered" so they say "ok". They said the computer was changed he couldn't do anything then we personally walked the manager outside to show him the big sign and then some how he miraculously fixes the system and he changes the receipt to half of sushi....not to mention the if it wasn't a fried roll it was terribly plain!!! New to Springfield, previously lived in California and expect that quality of sushi. Visited Sakura today. It is a nice, clean restaurant. We ordered fried rice and three sushi rolls. Off the get-go, our sodas were flat so they were returned and we ordered water.The fried rice was too salty and off-flavor -would not order again. The sushi was 2/3;but it had too much rice. Enough so that it was impossible to fit a piece of sushi in one bite, ok? The mexican roll was not good, tasted of grease only. I would not visit again. Maybe the Hibachi is a different experience, but doubtful that the fried rice would be much better. The service was not good. I didn't expect royalty treatment but with zero other customers around us the waitress was not attentive at all. The only thing I have to share is that I came here expecting some decent seafood and was met with a really odd and uncomfortable experience. I was sitting down in the lobby waiting area while my food was being prepared when a little Asian girl came up to where I was sitting (jumped up on the chair beside me) and with a frown announced "I don't like you, your black" I was in such awe. I didn't know how to process the experience because I literally didn't expect it she couldnt have been more than 5 years old so I didn't understand how she could have possibly built a bias against black people in her short 5 years of life ! What had I done to her simply have a darker skin tone ?? This would not be as relevant to a yelp review if the little girl wasn't the owners daughter... so you take my money with a smile on my face but are teaching your child hate. The chefs on the hibachi are great. They put on a great show, they are entertaining and fun. The food was really good. The Restraunt is clean and well kept. Table service is prompt and polite. The sushi used way too much rice, the saki tasted like white wine, the service was absolutely horrible. I had to get my bill from and pay the hostess after waiting 20 minutes. Worst sushi I've ever had! We ordered 3 rolls, and they were all bad. 2 of the rolls we ordered looked and tasted the exact same even though one was priced at ~$8 and the other was a whopping $14.95! The rolls were giant because they used an insane amount of rice, and very little fish. If I wanted rice, I would have ordered rice. Overall it was a $50 lunch that neither one of us enjoyed, or really even ate. We took the sushi with us in to-go boxes to give to a friend of ours who eats anything and everything... he even agreed it was horrible. Our waiter was terrible. He ended up sending our sushi order to the wrong place and we waited a hour and a half. I had to talk to a manager before they could find out order. We've become regulars & go at least once a month because the food is good; or at least the best we've found after living in San Diego for 10-years. Horrible, absolutely horrible. We have never had any such thing happen at a restaurant. My husband, two daughters, and I rolled in after a full day of volleyball. We ordered some ca rolls and ebi, along with edamame, three hibachi filet mignon for the girls and me, while my husband ordered miso soup and tempera shrimp. We were first brought our sushi. Our salads came and were tasty, along with the mushroom soup that needed salt but was still tasty. Waitress explained that the kitchen had still not gotten the miso soup. Waitress came back for refills and dishes and to apologize because she still didn't have his soup. Next the girls and I were served our hibachi meals, and my husband was told that they were out of miso soup and she'd take it off the bill. I asked if they we also out of shrimp since it had been so long. She apologized stating that his just wasn't ready yet, but since ours were she wanted to bring them out before they got cold. The rice was good, filet over cooked, veggies were yummy, and the noodles were nasty. The girls and I finished our meals, and still no shrimp for my husband. The waitress came out to get refills, and we simply asked for her to take his meal off the bill and to bring the check. We also mentioned that we had never had anything like this happen before. I asked to see the manager who had been walking around with a toddler. She set the child down and asked if we wanted to see her. I told her to just remove his meal from the bill and we were ready to leave. The bill was still $110. We will not be back. read more

Had a horrible and unbelievable experience here. Seated with a complete table of beautiful young adults going to their Senior Prom. Had a man cooking named Friendly, not only did they not bring out enough food for the two tables of 10 each. But they brought out everything wrong. None of the food was right, he passed out the extra portions ordered of fried rice before he ever made it completely around the table, so the other side received none. More had to be ordered from the kitchen. One side of the table basically received no food or not enough to make an appetizer portion. But the kicker is that when we finally spoke up to say these kids weren't getting their food and needed to be served to leave for Prom.....Friendly quit. Right there at the table in front of the manager and everyone. Yes that's right he walked out, then retuned 3 minutes later as the manager was trying to figure it all out and started rolling his cart out. I said,"Are you really not going to finish cooking this meal?" His reply was " I don't care!" WOW! Never seen anything like it, all around horrible experience, will never go back.
