My boyfriend and I came here for a hibachi date, and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. This was my first time trying hibachi, and I am currently pregnant, so food safety is especially important to me. After only a few bites of my meal, I found a cooked fly mixed into my fried rice. Seeing a bug in my food immediately ruined the experience, and I was concerned that the entire batch of rice may have been contaminated since it appeared to have been cooked together. While waiting for a replacement, I noticed fried rice was still being served to other customers, which was concerning. When the replacement food arrived, I was given miso soup and a California roll. The California roll was unusually warm instead of being cold and fresh as sushi normally should be, so at that point we just wanted to leave. What made the situation even more frustrating was the bill. We were charged for the replacement miso soup and California roll, despite receiving them because there was a bug in my original meal. The restaurant only offered a 10% discount, which barely covered the sales tax. To make matters worse, both my boyfriend and I felt sick after eating here. Finding a cooked fly in my food, receiving unsatisfactory replacement items, and the way the situation was handled left a very negative impression. Based on this experience, I would not recommend dining here, especially if food safety and customer service are important to you. At the very least, I would avoid ordering the fried rice. read more

I have been eating here for over a decade. Tonight my girlfriend found a FRIED INSECT in her food. They offer her a new dish out of courtesy (we thought). At the end they start arguing with us insisting we pay for her new dish and end up offering us 3 dollars off the bill. I had the WORST dining experience of my entire life at this restaurant. I never leave bad reviews for things but my experience was so egregious I feel like I need to warn people. I've been going here for yrs the food is ok but mostly it's conveniently located where I'm running errands. The staff is generally rude & unfriendly but a recent night there recently was especially unpleasant. I brought my dad there after spending a long day in the hospital where my brother was going through a life altering medical emergency. We were so emotionally exhausted & we just wanted to have a nice meal & decompress. I looked up online they were open til 10 pm & it was 9 so figured it was a reasonable choice considering it was an entire hr before close. We experienced the typical coldness from the staff & we ate or food quickly bc we hadn't eaten all day. My dad had almost a full beer left so I asked if the waitress could add a small hot sake to the order & bring the check. At that point the waitress told me she wanted to go home. Mind you it was 9:15 at this point. When she begrudgingly came back with the sake, I thought that maybe I had made a mistake and asked kindly what time they were open till at that point she told me they were open till 9:40? which still wouldn't explain such a rude and unprofessional response bc it was only 9:15? We were absolutely flabbergasted. It was unbelievable to experience such a level of rudeness & unprofessionalism esp after having experienced such an emotionally taxing day. Food is always amazing hibachi chefs are so friendly and always have a great experience, but the service from the waitresses is just awful. One in particular with glasses is always so rude and clearly doesn't care about giving good service to anyone. You can even say have a nice day to her on your way out and she just ignores you. When you ask for something she doesn't even acknowledge you and has another waitress, bring it. Been coming here for years, but to be honest, we'll probably not be returning after rude service time after time. read more

I can't tell if it's the seafood or the soy sauce, but something is always super salty. Very mediocre. I feel like the safest bet is go with fried or cooked rolls.. Honestly, I don't even understand how this place is still in business. Every time I go here no matter which time of day, I'm usually the only person there. Ambience is a very dim lit spot. Takes a longer time to adjust your eye trying to read the menu from being outside. Then the waiters will be over in under five minutes to ask if you already know what you want to order... I stopped going there for 3 years since every time it was either low quality or so so service. Nothing has changed. I got a tuna roll , a fried roll "the volcano" and yellowtail handroll. The tuna had a fishy taste, the volcano was alright but wouldn't get it again. The yellowtail hand roll ended up being skimped on meat and seaweed was extra chewy. This was my first hibachi experience, and it was so much fun! I loved the cook, and he did a wonderful job providing entertainment as well as delicious food. I got the scallops and steak, and it came with 2 shrimp per person, salad, and soup. The cook was very friendly. My only reason for not giving 5 stars was because the hostess and waitress were so not friendly. I asked 4 times if they could put the cake we brought for my mom's birthday in their fridge, and they kept passing it off to someone else, "Ask the waitress," etc. Even when we left, we said goodbye, and they didn't look up. lol Not the Japanese service you'd get in Japan at all, but no matter. read more

I have to say, probably the rudest hostess/owner I've ever met. Like other reviewers have stated, the wait staff are generally unfriendly, never smile and only seem interested in adding to the bill. Otherwise they are unwilling to help. They have very little patience for their customers and are hard to communicate with. I truly feel like they are doing ME a favor when we visit Sakura Hibachi. If my grandchild didn't like hibachi so much I would never go, unfortunately Riverhead has no other viable options for the hibachi experience which is quite lacking to be honest. When a member of my party needs GF soy sauce they pretend they don't know about it or have it, then they prepare the food WAY too early before hibachi experience is underway therefore the meals are not properly paced. I always loved this place. Food was always fresh and good even though service was always lacking or they would forget to bring out a item or two. ( ordered fried rice as a side eith some of our apps.) We recieve r our apps. No rice. Asked and was told it was coming right now. Then fi ished our soups and salads..Salads... no fried rice. Asked again. Then fi ished our entrees and sushi. No rice. Refused to take it off bill insisted we wait for it to go.... waited 15 mi uses before paying for it and leaving. So we thought take out would be better..... second time a Kani salad was missing. Let it go first time. Second time called and was told repeatedly that I am wrong. As if I can't see the food that is sitting I front of me. I tip and spend over 100 dollars every order. We walked into Sakura around 4pm. There was no one in the restaurant. Immediately you could pick up the negative vibe from the hostess and waitress. Our waitress seemed in a sour mood. We ordered from Sakura March 27, 2021 and several issues with the food happened. The Shrimp Teriyaki Bento Box had shrimp tempura with human hair on it. The Children's Hibachi Shrimp had 1 shrimp and was all chicken. We received a refund of $14 for all of those problems. Our entire bill on this order was $147. The Bento Box was $29 and the Hibachi Shrimp was $17. Using simple math, $14 is not an adequate solution to this problem. We probably will not order from this establishment again. The portions are adequate, the quality ok, the flavor/taste ok, but the issues with the actual order and reparations for incorrect or missing ingredients as well as the issue with hygiene will prevent us frequenting this restaurant. read more

The men loved the place. when were walked in the door the place was empty. An employee look at us and said "we have no time for you" as she looked the handicapped men up and down. absolutely disgusted by the behavior of the employee. I am a genuinely routine person. Almost weekly for the past 2 months I have been coming to this place in person to order the same meal weekly. The Chicken Hibachi Lunch Special. The meal comes to under 20 for the lunch special AND an extra side of fried rice. The food is really good also. Clear soup is lacking a little flavor but blander foods are fine with me. After seeing an old picture of my mom and I at this place and I decided to go back as the food was always good and it had been maybe a year since we had last been there. The service was always so-so but the food made up for it. Wow, I didn't think the service could get worse- I was wrong. Heading in, the restaurant is mostly empty (maybe 3-4 tables with few people each). The hostess is mean and with an attitude and the waitresses are all clueless and unable to communicate properly. I asked that we get our (hot) appetizers first and then our main entrees (mix of kitchen and sushi entrees) afterward. After nodding off the head and an "ok" at that request- they bring out everything all at once. There isn't even room on the table for all the plates. I ask if she can take it back to kitchen until we are ready for it. Confused she takes my sushi plates and leaves them on a table at the sushi bar. Minutes later, from where I sit I can then see some guy reach over to take some ginger off the plate? Seriously? When I tell the hostess/manager she she says I'm wrong and no one touched the plate and I counter with showing her and telling her I can see clearly from my seat what just happened, she walks away without a word to me and scolds the guy at the table and moves the plates away from him. Then walks away. When I realize they are not going to remake the plates again I just ask the waitress to bring everything back to us and leave the plates with us vs. just leaving it sitting at another table. Needless to say this ruined the meal for me and my mom. By this point the place is empty except for one large party on the Hibachi side of the restaurant and ourselves, they start rushing us. Trying to take our plates and asking if we want the check before we are done eating. I ask when they close and they have another 2 hours until closing and yet the waitresses start moping the floor at other tables and another tries to take away the soy sauce from our table?!?! I'm not sure if management changed or what but what a mess and disappointment. When the check comes, immediately after I asked her to give us time to finish our crappy wine, I see that that they base their suggested tip amounts on the paper check off of the "after-tax" amount on the bill- not the "pre-tax" amount which is customary. So on top of the bad service they then try to scam more tip out of the customer. Avoid, avoid, avoid as the food is no longer worth the very rude staff and randoms touching your plates before they are served to you. read more

We made a reservation for hibachi for 15 people, 6 children and 9 adults. They were prepared for us when we arrived. 2 people ordered sushi instead of hibachi, and they enjoyed it. They put us at 2 adjoining tables with 2 chefs - the one at my table was Michael and he was very good and very personable. They did the usual knife tricks, fire mountains, squirting saki (and water for the kids) into mouths, tossing veggies in mouths, and they were very entertaining. The kids loved it. Afterwards, they gave the children animal headpieces made out of mylar, which they also loved. The hibachi meals had soup, salad, 2 shrimps as appetizer and your choice of meat with fried rice or noodles. The filet mignon was very tender, and everything was very good. The portions were sizeable, and most of us took home leftovers. A suggestion would be to have chicken nuggets and French fries available for the children - some of them did not care for the food. As far as Hibachi places are concerned this place is A-OK. Today I had the Filet Mingon and Lobster Hibachi. The Steak was a little more medium than I would usually prefer, but it's no big deal. The service was great. Anything I asked for came very promptly. Overall I think the food was on par with most other Hibachi restaurants that I have been to. FOOD: ordered miso soup, shrimp tempura, and spicy California roll. The miso soup was average and tasty. Shrimp tempura and spicy California roll were really good. Very good taste to them, the roll was a little on the small size though. SERVICE: very quick service, waitress brought out our food pretty quickly and the bill was also brought out quickly. The waitress wasn't the friendliest, but she was average I suppose. Bit of a language barrier between us and her. What's good about this place was the price of the food and the specials they have.
