We visited Riverhead for a few days and found this restaurant on Google maps, and this hit the spot for our Asian food cravings. It has both sushi and Chinese food, and a lunch special on weekdays that run until 3pm. My family and I loved this restaurant so much that we came here 3 consecutive days. My favorite item was the salmon mango tartar, on the menu it's tuna mango tartar but you can ask for salmon instead. All other dishes that we tried like the Mongolian beef, shrimp fried rice, dumplings, shrimp lomein, shrimp and scallop, and various sushi rolls were perfectly flavored. Every single dish was done right. The owners, Maryanne and Ken were very warm and welcoming. The first time that we were there, Maryanne showed me other dishes ordered by another table and I knew I had to come back, and we did! The service was attentive and fast. We recently discovered Haiku before attending a show at The Suffolk Theatre. It's fantastic..the fish is extremely fresh, the choice of rolls is fantastic and it is reasonably priced. The husband and wife owners are very friendly and the vibe is chill. This is such a refreshing change from the overpriced, crowded and mediocre Sushi spots in Sag Harbor and the rest of the South Fork. We come from Shelter Island and have dinner after shopping at LIDL and Shop Rite. This is a game changer !! I hope Riverhead continues to grow and offer more family businesses like Haiku. read more

Ordered a 3 roll lunch special. For $15, it came with a choice of soup or salad. The food was good! Quick takeout service, nice staff. I'm not sure what the salad dressing was, it wasn't a typical ginger salad dressing. Everything was fresh, and good. STAY AWAY! The service completely ruined what should have been a nice meal. Our server was extremely unprofessional and inattentive. I was never given a fork, even after waiting quite some time, and I asked for soup twice and never received it. On top of that, she stood uncomfortably close to us every time she came to the table, which made the experience awkward and unpleasant. As if that wasn't enough, she kept complaining about her husband to us--as if we knew him or wanted to hear personal issues while trying to eat. It was bizarre and inappropriate. I cannot stress enough how terrible the service was and how much it negatively impacted the entire experience. The good : The sushi was passable . They have an extensive menu as well . The bad : It's kind of a hole in the wall. The entrance is off an alley . There is a fish tank and that's the extent of the ambience . It's small and cramped and certainly not a great date night place . The service was extremely slow . We were told they were very busy , but at least have a smile when you are in the service industry . I felt as though we had done them a favor by dining there . Was it just a bad night ? Maybe . After recommendations from two friends we decided to try Haiku Sushi. We started with the rock shrimp appetizer which was their version of a bang bang shrimp. It was a generous portion and we enjoyed it very much. We ordered a soup with udon noodle, a Godzilla roll and a queen roll. We also ordered a side of sautéed bok choy. The owner offered to split the soup in the kitchen for us after presenting the beautiful bowl. That was wonderful, we would not have done it justice by ourselves at the table. Went here and the service was awful I drank all of my water and never got a refill and on top of that everyone else at my table got served their food way before me by the time I got my food everyone else was already done with their food and I just had to take it to go. Then as we were leaving I did not tip because of my experience and the lady who was working said no tip? why would you not tip? Not going to lie it took a bit of time for the food to come (20mins) but I enjoyed the time to chat with my company. She denied me a drink before I even had the chance to order, was inattentive the entire time, and had a terrible attitude. But the worst part? Excellent food! I don't recall the names of the sushi rolls that my husband and I had, but they were amazing as is the jalapeño sauce, delicious on top of the beef fried rice. Pros: The sushi is solid and not expensive. Cons: The service is slow and not the most friendly. The entrance is not in the front on Main Street and so you have to find the nondescript door. If I didn't see someone go through the door first, I most likely would have gone somewhere else. read more
