We usually love Sakura but had a horrible experience today. My pregnant wife asked the waitress if the cooked rolls was really cooked before ordering. She said yes. Then she asked again while she was ordering and again another yes. Rolls came and salmon looked raw then she asked for the 3rd time and she said it was cooked. My wife took a bite then she overheard the waitress and the chef talking and he said not cooked. She came over and told us it was indeed raw. We asked to speak with a manager which for our surprise there was none. My wife told her she is pregnant and that was unacceptable. Waitress English was limited and she kept saying it was ok. It was not ok. Does she not know the risk involved with a pregnant woman eating raw fish???? Why the hell would you have a cooked roll section on the menu if they r not cooked? Worse experience EVER! We made a reservation for my mother's birthday, where she really wanted to go. Of the reservation for 11, 6 of us were from out of town. When we arrived, we were greeted by the rudest server I've ever encountered. When we asked for a high hair, she said "why?" When some of our party was running late, because it was pouring rain, she demanded to take our drink order. When we said we would wait for the rest of the party, she said no and demanded a drink order by saying "drink now." While she was gone, the rest of the party arrived, and my sister in law took one of my nieces to the bathroom. When the server came back, she wanted the small girls (under 5 years old) to give a drink order, and when we said we wanted to wait for their mother to return, she said " no, drink now" and then proceeded to bring them what she felt they wanted to drink. Then the table chef arrived, who was slightly inappropriate. Even when people did not want to partake in the shooting of food, liquid, etc into their mouths, he would squirt their face until they agreed. It was problematic because one of our party did not drink alcohol and the table chef kept trying to get him to drink Sake. When he said no on multiple occasions, he squirted him in the face. He also got the order wrong for 3 people, and when he questioned the server, she came over and basically threw food on the table. When I asked for a refill on my iced tea, she said "no, not until you finish what you have." Basically it was a miserable experience. And the tip was included, so she could have treated us any way she liked and still get a tip. We didn't even pay her, I went to the hostess to pay and she came up and said "what you doing." I used to like coming here but yesterday when I tried to eat I couldn't even get my food. Because of a medical issue right now, I can't eat certain types of fish. There was a roll that I ordered that had one of these types of fish in it among others I could have. I asked if they could make the roll without that fish. The woman proceeded to tell me there was a charge for that.. and I tried to say I think she misunderstood (because I wanted something less in my roll and not something more) and I couldn't even get 3 words out. She kept repeating her self.. some Thing about doubles?? I didn't understand and she wouldn't let me explain.. I asked her politely to please let me finish my sentence and she told me, laughing, "I DONT CARE." Who does that?? I was so embarrassed and sad... and she wouldn't stop laughing even after when I asked "are you laughing at me?" Which she confirmed "yes." I tried to ask her who the manager was and she said "me." What do you do in that situation??? you shouldn't have to beg a manager to explain yourself and say one sentence, and then be told management doesn't care about you speaking. I have been to a number of sushi places on the island, so I definitely have a lot to go off of when forming an opinion about a new place. Firstly, the restaurant was cold, except for the bathrooms which were receiving all of the heating for whatever reason. I came here with a friend on their recommendation and ordered a blue crab avocado appetizer that they had suggested. This appetizer was the only saving grace of the meal. I have included a picture of it. We also ordered vegetable fried rice and two sushi rolls, one a special salmon roll and the other just a simple spicy tuna roll. The vegetable fried rice was bland and seemed almost soggy in a way, just not what you would expect when you order that. The spicy tuna roll came out looking questionable, the tuna didn't look the greatest and had me wary. The salmon roll just tasted odd, and it's not like you're getting any sort of significant price cuts at this establishment compared to others who have a similar menu. I was incredibly disappointed in the meal. We ordered a fried banana dessert to try to save the night, but it came out with a tiny pile of whipped cream and nothing else, it was just bland. Overall, this place was okay, but I would definitely not recommend it and I will sadly not be returning. read more

Every time I've been here we've had an annoying server with a terrible attitude. This includes the hostess which just took my order for take out. Gotten takeout and hibachi multiple times from here. You can make reservations way the day of for dinner. You can sit and order drinks while you wait of stragglers of your party. This place is the last thing from being professional. Management is not even remotely close to being a professional business. The customer service is horrendous. This is due to the fact mostly because they are understaffed. When a big surge of different parties walk in at the same time, the staff run around like chickens with their heads cut off. This issue starts stems from the top of their hierarchy. Their manager is a young female who is by far the most unprofessional and it leaks down into her employees. About a week ago we made a reservation and made sure to call twice and remind them of our reserved time. When getting there the placed was filled with customers (some not wearing masks) and the waiting area filled. They stated that, "we don't take reservations." How is that so if we called twice to confirm our reservation? They rejected us of our reserved table, which we were extremely upset about. But we were more upset about the COVID regulations that were not followed by this restaurant. This was a huge rant and my apologies for this. Tonight was a disaster as I saw no Tonkatsu sauce for their Pork Katsu bento box...and the Yaki Soba looked like the noodles came from a Nissan Ramen package from the grocery. I do not mind paying for the right food but please...at least a bit more authentic. I called up the restaurant to give them some advice on their ingredients and the receptionist kept arguing that they've been serving the same type of food for 12 years, but guess what...if you pay top dollar you should expect top quality of food...no brainer right? Ok so my boyfriend and I just ate lunch here. Ordered two salmon teriyaki lunch hibachi and 2 sushi rolls to share. The food looked ok, there were many disappointments. One is the sauce on the hibachi salmon, was some type of thick sauce...very slimey! The texture of the sauce turned me off my meal, was just disgusting to look at, and the way it kept sliding off my fork, was just awful. The salmon itself was cooked well! Served with mixed veggies and fried rice, which was ok, nothing spectacular. The sushi was ok, again nothing spectacular and the soy sauce was putrid! Left a weird after taste in my mouth. However despite those mishaps, maybe I just came on a bad day, the service was pretty good. Wait staff were attentive, kept refilling out drinks and asking if we needed anything. The restaurant itself is very pretty inside and very clean! The prices are very good! I wouldn't advise people to come for dinner ($$) but their lunch menu prices are very fair and they do give you a lot of food. I however, will not be eating here again. read more

My husband was not so keen on Sakura's strip mall location in Riverhead, and was about to question my judgement in bringing him here, however we were greatly surprised upon walking in; the restaurant is bright and clean. We decided to sit at the sushi bar. There is a huge Teppanyaki aka Hibachi area which dominates more than half of the restaurant. About ten dining tables on the left and a small sushi bar in the very back of the restaurant. We decided upon a "light" meal of spicy kani salad each, which was excellent and freshly made to order in front of us. I ordered the volcano roll (a fried tempura covered roll) which was excellent. My husband had a few pieces of eel sashimi (excellent) and a roll, which I failed to take note of. The sushi chefs were fantastic. they were feverishly making sushi for both the in-house guests and for the to-go orders. The waitresses are a little on the overly aggressive side as we are starting to see is the unfortunate norm for busy sushi places. Will return for more sushi in the future. Who knew that this little gem was here! My friends recommended we go to this restaurant after they had a good experience. I have to start with why I didn't give them a 5 star, which they kind of deserved-because it was UNBELIEVABLY FREEZING INSIDE! I mean, it was a cold night, but it was as if they didn't have heat. The kani salad was light and fresh. The sweetheart roll-OOHHH L A LA - It was so good! The hibachi was not drowning in soy, it was just plain good ingredients cooked well. The best part-the white sauce they serve you to compliment the hibachi. I usually don't use the sauce, but I have to say it was the wow factor...don't miss it.
