I've gone to Sakura three imes to eat in a twice now for take out. All experiences have been 5 stars. The staff is extremely kind and helpful, if you request to spicy something up, it will get hotter and they will even bring in specific Toro. I've gone to the same sushi chef for 15 years and I think that Sakura is becoming my new go to place. I havent really explores the menu much but I am really excited to try some of the other rolls. Fridays are very busy. I suggest early saturday or sunday otherwise you might have a long wait due to limited seating. read more

Staying in a small town like Auburn, CA, I am surprised to find a top notch Sushi restaurant here! The small and modest seating area belies the really great food. Started off with the Salmon Tataki (thin slices of Salmon) and it is absolutely delicious! It's got jalapeños and is generally spicy, so i decided to skip adding any Wasabi. Next came the main dish - a Super Rainbow roll with Shrimp tempura. Ingredients are amazingly fresh - the shrimp tempura in particular tasted like they prepared it from scratch with live shrimp. Everything is just amazing, and I'm tempted to make a second visit on my way back to San Francisco. A real gem - can't recommend this enough! read more

Love this hidden gem! I first discovered it because a friend and I went to a popular place down on Lincoln Street and found that the wait was going to be nearly an hour! We decided we didn't want to wait that long so searched for something else and this is where we ended up. So glad fate brought us here! Since that initial visit, we've been back a few times... pleased with the service and dishes each time. My sister joined us on our most recent visit - she and her family go to Mikuni 95% of the time, but she was very happy with the food here and said she'd likely be back as well. The atmosphere here is about as opposite as you can get - where Mikuni is generally very busy and "loud", Sakura is small and chill... yet the food is still great. We started off with a Goyza Plate as an appetizer... the "plate" added a few interesting things to the usual deep fried pot stickers - there was some green salad, sticky rice and an orange - all with great presentation. We then went with three rolls - the Arizona Roll, Sakura Roll and Godzilla Roll. All were great - and large rolls! The Arizona Roll was the spiciest and my sister decided it was a little bit too much for her so she stayed with the other two. While we were getting close to finishing, the waitress surprised us with another small dish - a salmon appetizer. It's always nice to be surprised like this! I'm not even sure if the dish was normally on the menu, but WOW - it was some of the tastiest salmon I've ever had! So buttery and tender, it just melted in our mouths! We all loved it! Gave this place a try for the first time. There are now 5 Sushi options in Auburn, so one would think this would drive competition and make things better. Unfortunately Sakura is not in the running. We got 4 rolls to go and the bill was $54 before tip. When he handed me the bag I was already a little worried because it was pretty light. When we got home we opened up some very pretty rolls, but it was clear we would be supplementing our meal. I'm not sure how he rolled them so tiny. We "dug in" and they were good, but compared to the other options in town they were bottom 2. Everything did seem fresh, and that's a big deal, and presentation was nice for to-go. Fair amount of wasabi and ginger. Favorite out of the 4 was the 49er. If we try it again I think we will eat in and see if he can look us in the face when they deliver the rolls. But again l, with so many options it will be a while before I spend that much to retest them out. read more

Sakura Sushi has the best sushi in the greater Sacramento region. Super fresh food, excellent service and knowledgeable staff and the cutest , quiet environment. We had the jalapeño bombs (best I've ever eaten), the pepperfin (exquisite balance of yuzu and jalapeño), the Sakura roll, Arizona roll, 49er roll and the VIP role. The best were the scallop shooters which had scallop, yuzu, quail egg and Saki. I can't wait to go back. My husband and I went in for the first time, having lived in the area our whole lives and we couldn't believe we had t done it sooner! Small, cozy, quaint, beautiful, and above all delicious! We went in just after 4 when they had first opened and all the food was prepared right away, the hostess (owner?) was very lovely. Everything was clearly fresh and it was simple, great taste without a lot of the frills you see at some sushi places. The focus was clearly on the food and it shows. We highly recommend the seaweed salad, we liked it so much we took another serving home to eat. Will definitely be back again, we think we've found our new favorite local sushi spot. We love sushi. And for whatever reason, most sushi places close Sunday. We didn't want to drive far, so luckily Yelp came to our rescue and although I barely knew this tiny strip shopping area existed ( had driven by 6 gajillion times and never been in the lot for anything), we decided to give it a try. Five tables ( 4 tops) and 3 seats at the sushi bar doesn't make it huge but we bellied up to the bar. Three tables were seated and another 2 left before we did and I heard a few to-go calls, so I think they were "busy". One waiter and one sushi chef but damn if they didn't handle it all. Food was fresh ( just like all the other reviews said!), delicious and fast! My Husband loved the fatty tuna and the fact that there wasn't a ton of rice on the rolls. The sushi chef wasn't the owner ( we asked) but we watched him quickly make amazing food while we ate. He checked in on us often. In and out with an appetizer, 2 sakes, 3 rolls and nigiri. Full, fat and happy! We have tried all the nearby sushi places ( for miles and miles) abs this is our new favorite. And I was surprised by that We will be back, Sakura! read more

I had high hopes for this place. I prefer to support small businesses when eating out. I've eaten here twice. The service was very slow as the owner makes the sushi and one server handles all the tables. The sushi is average, but not exceptional. During my second visit the one server working was dealing with a particularly difficult table. This customer had the server in tears. We had been waiting over 10 minutes to get our check, so I walked up to the counter to see if I could pay. The server was apparently new and struggling with the register system which was written entirely in Japanese. She did not read Japanese. She was still crying and I said a few things to help calm her down at which point the owner walked up and told me to go sit down in a stern manner. That experience was a few months ago. Fast forward to last night. Their yelp says they were open till 9. I called the restaurant around 7:45 to ask what time they closed. The server who answered the phone said they would be open till 8:30, maybe 9 it just depends. We live 15 minutes away, so I figured it would be fine to head over. As soon as I walked in the door, we saw one table that needed to be cleaned and the other seats were taken. The one server came up to me and told us immediately that they could not serve us as all the tables were taken and they were not accepting any more patrons. I told him that I spoke to him 15 minutes earlier and he informed me they would be open. He then told they had no tables and I pointed to the empty table needing cleaning. He reiterated that they would not allow us to eat there. All in all I would not recommend this place. It is poorly run, the service is extremely slow and the owner is a fairly unpleasant person. Add that to the fact that the sushi is at best average and on the higher side of costs and there really isn't any reason to eat at Sakura. Save yourself the time, money and disappointment. read more

WOW, what a surprise find, hidden GEM! Restaurant was clean, neat and you can tell that the owners take pride in their restaurant. Soft music playing, staff was extremely nice and attentive. Food was great!!! The rolls were made just right, not overly done with excessive rice. Fish was high quality. I wish there were more seating inside, but other than that it was perfect! Coming from the bay area we were worried that we would not find quality sushi in the Auburn area. Well, we did and we will be back many, many times. Loved it! Loved that they're super close and within walking distance from my residence. Have been going to Sakura for years and they have yet to miss a beat. The hostess is always pleasant. The sushi chefs are super accommodating and they offer the best recommendations. This is a quality sushi cafe. Clean, comfortable, and sanitary, even during Covid. We typically order one baked sushi roll (Lion King), a cooked roll (Shrimp Tempura), and a raw roll (Rainbow). We've tried almost all of their rolls and have no complaints (I personally don't like cream cheese). And I hate pickled ginger, but they have the best ginger that I don't mind consuming. We even got free miso soup during this visit. :) Whenever we crave sushi, Sakura is where we go. Pay them a visit and you will be highly impressed. read more

The outside of this place is very dark and unwelcoming other than the flashing open sign but once you go in it's fine. I went to the bathroom and noticed the soap was watered down which is kind of sketch for a restaurant but it was late and there weren't too many options at that point. We started out with 2 miso soups which were delicious. Then we got some spicy tuna rolls, hamachi nigiri and vegetable rolls. They were good, but we were still hungry and had to order another spicy tuna roll. We got some hot tea, one small kettle with two small cups and were charged for two teas... I enjoyed the little tea I did consume... The second order of the spicy spring rolls did not come with wasabi or ginger. I noticed on the menu you have to pay extra for that side. We were thinking of ordering the green roll which has vegetable and rice paper, and we haven't had that before so we figured we'd try something new. When I inquired about that dish the lady seemed confused and asked the chef what it was. They were out of that so there went that option. This is just an average 3 star restaurant. Food was good but I don't like the nickel and diming for wasabi which should come with the meal, and getting charged twice for one small tea kettle. read more

I love sushi and Japanese food. My family and I can eat a lot of sushi so I wanted AYCE sushi but I didn't have time to drive to my favorite place in Reno. I checked local reviews and gave Sakura Sushi a try. The restaurant has limited seating and the service was limited to one lady attending all tables. So there was a short wait until a table became available. We ordered a variety of food and it was great! Traditional Japanese plates were flavorful. Niguri had large slices of moist and tender fish and the rice was perfect. We tried the rolls and they were excellent. Sakura is definitely now my favorite local sushi place in Auburn. read more
