Ginger was Off/Stale & Chewy. I mean how do you serve crappy ginger? The rice in my Philly roll chewy almost crunchy. It was Not the freshest by any stretch... I was able to finish it even though it was bad enough to send back. The Salmon was Fresh enough to be enjoyed. But I promptly left after I finished the single item I ordered. Would I go back: No! The mister has a history of being a regular here when he first lived in the area. When we lived in SoCal, he would bring me here on visits. We've celebrated occasions & come with big groups. Though it had been a little while since we last stopped by, we saw Chung (who helps run the place) & were immediately recognized & welcomed warmly. As always, she treated us with kind hospitality & asked how our kiddo was. The restaurant is bright with tall windows & airy with a high ceiling. There are tables, cushioned bench seating with tables, & a long sushi bar. A few TVs are on the walls. There is also a nice outdoor covered patio area. For our latest meal, we came for lunch & ordered some rolls--the Zakuro customized & with extra sauce (savory & peanutty), the Red Bull (a little spice kick), a couple of Bumble Bees (rich & torched cream cheesy), a Zig Zag hand roll (mild flavor, but nicely filled), & a Super Rainbow (very fresh). We received friendly customer service with a smile from our server who checked on us, offered refills, & cleared our plates promptly. We've tried a lot of yummy menu items here through the years & always have an enjoyable meal. The food is tasty, ingredients aren't skimped on, there are unique flavor combinations, & some rolls are interestingly sauced. Hubs and I thought we would give this place another try. It's been years and we didn't want to fight the line at Mikuni. We had the King Kong, ZAKURO and the Red Bull. The Zakuro was delicious, and the crispy scallop on top was delightful. The other two, ummm, no. The taste of liquid smoke BBQ and the texture of the fish didn't go well. Went here for dinner visiting from out of town attending a concert. Had a short wait before being seated. Ambiance was a bit loud due to the high ceilings, but was a fun atmosphere. Server took our order quickly and drinks came quickly. I ordered a glass if wine and had the dinner combo of chicken teriyaki and gyoza. The combo comes with salad, serving of white rice and miso soup. Really, really good food. I could not finish my dinner, was very full. You will definitely have enough for lunch the next day. I went here tonight with my sister for dinner. Our waiter was kind and attentive. The food was good and the menu had a wide variety of offerings. We ordered the vegetable tempura as an appetizer. It came out late with our food and not every piece was warm. That was sad but I didn't say anything because we were hungry and ready to eat. We ordered the Rex Special and Unaten Maki. Still craving sushi after my last online debaucle at another establishment. I decided to try something new. So, I went local again and had delivery from here. It was easy to order and arrived nicely packaged right at the designated time they gave me. My order consisted of Edamame, 2 salads, 2 miso soups, Oceans 12 roll, Mike BB roll, Lion King roll, and a Fantastic 4 roll. The Edamame were good, as was the salad and miso, yet very ordinary and just so-so. Nothing stood out as all that great, just blandly ordinary. The rolls were OK, but honestly, it was hard to tell one from another. The salmon was good quality, and the crunchy shrimp stood out from the rest. My biggest issue was that the fish/seafood in the rolls was minimal compared to the rice, wrap, and other ingredients that overwhelmed what seafood existed. The other issue was it didn't look or taste freshly made, as if it had been previously refrigerated or frozen. Each piece was limp and lacked luster. My dining partner commented that it didn't appear professionally prepared. Each piece just fell apart when picking it up with chop sticks. Overall, it was just OK, yet I was rather disappointed as the whole idea of sushi is freshness. Perhaps I hit a bad day. read more

When I moved here from LA in 2008 I knew it might be difficult to find good sushi. My sister in law turned me on to Zakuro and I was instantly hooked. We tried so many rolls and I couldn't believe how fresh it all tasted. We've been going back for 12 years now and I still eat my weight in raw fish every time! The food is amazing and now that our son has grown a little more sophisticated than chicken teriyaki, our 4 roll order is up to six! 12 years, same rolls, consistent the entire time. We go to other sushi places and always end up comparing what we're eating to what we would have had at Zakuro! Plus, the staff is excellent and treat you like family. We get the same waiter a lot and he's such a nice guy. The owners are almost always at the restaurant and have celebrated so many milestone occasions with us over the years they might as well be family! I only wish the outside part was covered or something. It gets so crowded some nights it's wait 25 minutes or sit outside and in the winter it's not so nice. Whatever. My only issue with Zakuro was the ambiance/organization of the guest facing areas. Now everything was moderately clean but they really need some sort of divider separating their BOH/ToGo stations. It felt very messy and more like eating in a warehouse than a restaurant I also believe some better more intimate lighting would make this place shine. I don't leave bad reviews but my experience here was horrible. My wife and I both got food poisoned from eating here. On top of that they were poorly understaffed. There was one server and she appeared to be overwhelmed so much that left for the day without handing us to the next server. We sat around waiting to pay. I still tipped after the poor service but after having to rush home due to food poisoning I really regret tipping it ruined our evening. Lately I have been loving the Spicy Miso Ramen since it's cold outside which has a nice bite and a savory flavor that isn't too salty or spicy-just right. Best SUSHI in the Lincoln area for sure and Rocklin area. Tangs is better but that's in the Roseville . For the prices this is hella worth it. This would be a 5 if the Unagi was life changing because the unagi is not worth at all tastes bland no quality feels like it's from a can. Their salmon easily the best fish and you have to try Bumblebee. Try zakuro SUSHI not their nigiri or bowls those aren't worth. Ambiance is like traditional Japan with the wood the service is very passionate in trying to figure out what would be the best for you. This would EASILY be a 5 if not for the low quality Unagi. 2/20/2021 Outdoor dining It's not often that we come out this way and so we had to try the restaurant scene out here away from the city and Silicon Valley life where we are spoiled. My sons wanted sushi for an early dinner and we noticed that Zakuro had patio dining with heat lamps so we went for it. It was a petty windy day so we really wanted to eat outdoors vs in our car. There was only another couple dining (almost done) which was right next to us next to a heat lamp (maybe 4 ft vs 6 ft distancing) as they didn't want to turn on multiple heat lamps (?). If we both moved away from the tables, we would definitely collide close. Drinks came out fairly quickly so service was attentive. Before our food came, the couple next to us departed. It was windy cold and had asked if the heat lamps that were "on" could be moved and the hostess/mgr? Woman said that we should move around the heat lamp vs the heat lamp moving so we decided to just stay where we were which covered one seat vs all 4 seats being warm. The waitress attending to us was really sweet. She checked on us and the boys and apologized for the heat lamp not moving. Somehow the heat lamp was turned off when they were telling us to move our table and chairs closer to the heat lamp. It got real cold really fast :( didn't help that outside of warm miso soup, we were eating rolls which were all cold. Sushi & tempura were both ok, kids liked miso soup. We had ordered some rolls where there are fried tempura or soft shell crab and all were rolled up cold. Food was served on togo boxes. We thought it was funny that some rolls came out on togo "lids" and others were served on the "inside" of the togo cartons not a full complete set for each order made. At least be consistent? Pick all bottoms or pick all tops? It wasn't our best outdoor dining experience. Definitely not comparable to the City or the Silicon Valley restaurants. :( Hoping this isn't the standard out here. read more

We placed an order about an hour before closing and even though it was ready on time, we found out sushi to be lacking both in flavor and presentation and the soup was over cooked and too salty ... too bad because we like to support local vendors ... please go back to serving great quality sushi! read more
