This is my first visit, September 4, 2025. This truly is the first establishment that I've been to, where they make their sushi rice properly. It brings the proverbial tear to my sushi craving eye, the delicious flavor. I've tried a couple of sushi specific buffets, sushi at Chinese buffets, sushi from Costco, sushi from three major supermarkets, and sushi from a quite good Japanese sushi spot in Roseville. But every last one of them used what tastes like plain, steamed rice to wrap their rolls. Sushi rice is a recipe, with multiple, flavorful ingredients. Take Maru is the only place I've experienced this, and it's beyond delicious. I had the lunch special, everything was great. The sushi quality is by far the best in Auburn, and after all that's the most important thing when it comes to sushi. Glad to see Take Maru open its doors to dine in again. Comfortable atmosphere, with lots of booths, and a nice sushi bar. They always take care of me and my family when we have come in. Such an underrated sushi spot and general restaurant in the area!! We were visiting lake of the pines and wanted to do a quick takeout order and decided to try this place. So glad we did. We got the spicy tuna, salmon, Okinawa, and chili salmon roll. Each one was better than the next. The spicy tuna was creamy and full of fish. They didn't cheapen it by adding cucumber and we really enjoyed it a lot. The Okinawa roll is a must try, the slices of fresh lemon were just amazing. The salmon in the roll is buttery and super fresh. My in laws got the mixed sashimi appetizer and absolutely loved it, overall I cannot recommend this place enough. I love suishi so I decided to try this one. I really wanted to go to Sakura suishi in Auburn but they don't open until 4 pm. This is located in a small plaza with most of the places are out of business. This is the last place to stop on highway 49 as you are heading back to Grass Valley/Nevada City. They only offer food to pick up. I looked inside and the entire dining area is closed off with plastic. It did not look clean inside and so I decided not to order anything. I don't like to give negative reviews but this place was not clean! I would go to a more established place with a high turnover of fresh suishi! read more

The miso soup is excellent and the sushi is similarly great. The ramen is decent but I wouldn't recommend it. The service is great and the staff are all friendly. I am disappointed that Yelp is leaving up reviews that have nothing to do with the food or service. This business deserves more respect than that. Thus: This unassuming hole-in-the-wall joint offers some of the best fresh fish and sushi rolls I have had in a very long time, inclusive of travels to NYC, Maui, and travel throughout California. If I had judged it purely by driving past, I would have ignored it for being nearly invisible and buried in the back of a small plaza- so hooray for Yelp and Google for alerting me to its existence. I am not local to that area but I am scheming reasons to go back because the quality is so darn good. Like, really, really good. And incredibly kind and friendly people with respect for allergy considerations as well. We brought our to-go order to a local brewery to eat, and had multiple gawkers lusting after our beautiful selection of food and asking where it came from- they were very excited to know it was so close by! These folks are clearly playing it safe with health protection- whether due to COVID-19 or anything else, they have taken steps to protect their staff and conserve resources including keeping indoor dining closed and asking customers to wait outside for picking up their orders. I don't know what challenges these folks have faced in the last few years or what personal risk they are accounting for, but it's certainly no big deal to me to honor their needs and just wait in my car until they call me for pickup. The food is well worth it, and them taking steps to protect their own health and safety means hopefully they will stick around and remain in business for a good long time! If Heogh's wife was a bit more friendly (aka sour-puss) Take Maru might have MORE customers ... yet seems they have enough! The freshness of the food seems to have declined and there are some truly annoying patrons that frequent the place.
