I got delivery...um...gross gross gross and not at ALL authentic. I ordered the tempura and vegetable appetizer. What I received was an overly greasy, heavily battered bunch of veggies and 3 small shrimp. Okay. Japanese cuisine 101 lesson here. Tempura is specifically noted as different and separate from other fried food because of the light, airy, textured and crunchy texture in spite of the item being FRIED. How do they do that you may ask? It is with the combination of RICE flour and usually carbonated soda in the batter to make the tempura batter flaky when fried. You know those descriptions on sushi menus that say "topped with tempura flakes" and they are like rice-krispy in texture? YES. THAT is what proper tempura is. What I received was more akin to food you would find at the state fair; 1/4" thick batter, small amount of innards and 100% grease. For $16.80? waste of money. I CAN AND HAVE made better tempura. I also got the spicy tuna roll and the salmon maki roll. I like that the seaweed is on the outside, rather than the rice, which is traditional, so a person can appreciate the texture and contrast of biting into a (what should be) crisp nori wrapping and then sink one's teeth into the sushi rice, then the fish. As I raised the salmon maki roll to my mouth, all I could smell was rotting fish. I thought maybe it was just my imagination and tried to eat it anyway. NOPE! Tasted rotten! plus, the rice was hard, like pasta that had been boiling in water for only 2 minutes, and the roll was falling apart as I brought it to my mouth! It unraveled. The spicy tuna roll was the same disaster. My only positives, and why I am giving 2 rather than 1 star is that the miso soup tasted like miso that I wanted (although suuuper skimpy on the tofu with 3-4 tiny pieces, essentially no scallions, and maybe 2 small squares of seaweed) and I appreciated that the spicy tuna roll was actually spicy. MIAMI, COME ON!!!! What is with the asian food here??? SOOOO disappointed! Lesson learned. Will stick with Omakai happy hour and omakase. Anything else is just like flushing dollars down the toilet. read more

The dining area is very clean and comfortable, private parking lot is right in front of the restaurant, and service is welcoming and friendly. Sakura is a great option when looking for a Japanese restaurant. The menu has lots of options for everyone. Nigiri, specialty rolls, regular rolls and even noodles and ramen. Everything was super fresh and portions are big. Also they have Like half portions so you can try more things in one seating. We had the gym roll which was very tasty, a riceless roll which was very good and of course a lot of Nigiri. Also wanted to try the octopus sunomono to start and again... it was fresh and perfect. If I had to say a bad thing it would be that some of the octopus pieces were to big. (Not exactly a bad thing) but difficult to eat. FRESH, that's was the first word that popped in my head trying the sushi at Sakura. After driving by this restaurant countless times my wife and I came finally came for dinner and it was delicious. The staff is extremely friendly and the service from Anthony was great. He recommended we try the Sea of Love and were glad he did. We've been here several times and it's usually good, but this time we were disappointed. We had the mushroom miso soup, which was good. We also tried the Neptune salad, which we thought was a salad with seafood, but it was a "stack" of mixed seafood, tasty but a bit dry. The problem came with the spicy tuna roll, which was prepared "inside/out." I don't like these types of rolls, so as soon as the server brought it, I explained that it wasn't what I expected. She asked someone if they could re-do it, and they said "no" because the menu describes it as such. I asked to see the menu again and noticed that next to the name, it had an "S/O." I obviously had not noticed that and wouldn't have known what it meant. She said it stood for "seaweed out." They didn't return my roll. So my husband ate it, and I settled for his. Conclusion: we both ate something we didn't want, we both had a negative experience, I gave the restaurant a bad review, and we probably won't return. WAS THAT REALLY WORTH IT FOR A SAVINGS OF ABOUT $5??? What a time for restaurants... not! I was really feeling sushi the other night and after a friend recommended Sakura, I decided to order take-out. Warning: I was super hungry at the time of this order so don't judge me on the amount of food I consumed! :) The ginger dressing that is on the side salad is something I've never had at a Japanese restaurant before. It has a garlic taste to it and I absolutely loved it! The I got two pieces of the steamed shrimp shumai, which were really good and came with a tangy ponzu sauce. I also ordered three roles: kappa, salmon crunch, and minion. The kappa is just cucumber but really great; the minion roll was delicious but it comes with jalapeños and a jalapeño soy sauce (kinda spicy!); and lastly, the salmon crunch roll was to die for as it was huge, full of flavor, and topped with crunch and eel sauce. The restaurant was eerily quiet but everyone was busy putting together orders. The ladies behind the counter were friendly and taking sanitary precautions. I've visited 3 times and really I'm not going to bother going again. I haven't been impressed by anything and it's grossly overpriced. "Lunch specials" that start at $20? You're in a run down building, not south beach. Matsuri down the street has lunch specials for under $10 and their fish quality is one of the best in Miami! I've tried the salmon carpaccio(nothing special), some other app that isn't worth remembering, and a roll that was basically a ton of rice with a tiny piece of fish in the middle(pic attached). Sushi is my favorite go-to for delivery nights but I've found it hard to find a spot nearby to deem my favorite. Usually relying on Yelp Eats or another delivery service, I never tried Sakura but realized last week that they offer both delivery and takeout via their website, rather than through one of these other entities. I recently had my husband pick it up for us on the way home from work after I called the order in. It was ready in about 20 minutes. We ordered two miso soups, the sashimi appetizer, a spicy tuna roll, and a Ricky hand roll which consists of tuna tartare, jalapeños, eel, tempura flakes and eel sauce. All of this came to around $32. When all is said and done, I think we found our new sushi spot! The fish tasted super fresh and was portioned perfectly. The Ricky HR was obviously the most unique thing we ordered and dang was it good! Would totally get this over and over again. Word to the wise, the spicy tuna roll is truly spicy (I think from Sriracha?), so that's something to keep in mind. Of course, I'd love to stray from my couch and eat at the restaurant one day. It seems very casual, perfect for an easy meal out with the fam or friends. If you're not in the menu for sushi, they have lots of Korean and cooked Japanese options, too... I've been to sakura about 3 times just this month. It's a very cozy place that serves amazing food. Huge variety on the menu and some rolls are customizable and can be ordered as 6 pcs or 10 pcs. How incredibly petty. Long time customers who were regulars. We would go in every week and spend at least $200. We hadn't been in over year since they charged us $1 for the sauce. It's so incredibly silly to nickel and dime customers like that. Today we went back in for dinner and again we were super unimpressed. We asked for a bottle of their red wine and they gave us a glass. According to the under age server, she didn't hear the order correctly... forgivable. However, not my mistake. When we corrected here, she brought over the bottle. She also wasn't willing or able to pour our glasses at the table because of her age. I have never heard that one before. As soon as the bill was brought, we noticed she had charged us not only for the sauces but also for the bottle of wine that she mistakenly brought to our table. She could have taken the glass back. I would give this place 5 stars if it werent because of the wait time. We went on a weekday at 6 pm, place was empty and everything took the longest time. It's great having this sushi spot close to home! They have lunch specials during the week for a great price. On my last visit, I called ahead and ordered a JB tempura roll to go. I asked if I could have it "well done" because I'm pregnant and can't have raw salmon. When I arrived, I paid and the sushi chef was cutting my roll and packing it. I guess I looked hungry because he served me a piece as I waited! It was cooked perfectly. It was also very thoughtful of him. When I got home, I was glad that it was still crispy.
