one of my favorite sushi places, friendly staff, and always try to visit when i'm around this area

I had high expectations based on the other reviews that I read and so this might have just as well been a four star review based solely on the quality of the food and the excellent service. It's a nice restaurant and very welcoming. They have a very nice menu with a lot of choices. But here is where it fell down for me. I ordered chirashi. This is one of my favorite comfort meals. The word chirash means scatter and as such, it is typically a scattering of foods on top of a bowl of sushi rice. The ingredients may vary from chef to chef, but the idea behind it is artistry, where the chef scatters colorful fish, egg, vegetables usually garnished with seaweed. There is the Kanto style which is the simpler of the two and the Kansai style which is more elaborate because it adds carrots, burdock root, lotus root, and dried shiitake mushrooms to the mix. But what is common to all chrashi is the scattering of different types of topping. This mess was neither. It is simply a bed of rice topped with masago on a plate surrounded with some sashimi. Not a lot of variety. To their credit, the sashimi was excellent. It was tasty. It was neither aesthetically pleasing or with enough variety to be even close to what other restaurants would call chirashi. As I stated, the quality was great and it was tasty, but it was not what I ordered or expected and was agreed just enough that I don't believe I will go back. Only reason we stopped in was because it's close to home. Came around 2 p.m. and were seated right away since no one else was there. Cozy spot. Hubby had the sashimi lunch special, I had the pork katsu. Food looked better than it tasted. His sashimi was acceptable this time (wasn't fresh on his last visit). My katsu was just okay and light on vegetables. Service was excellent, but overall we won't be back. read more

Great izakaya style hole in the wall with fresh food and amazing service. Their selection of sake is also great and the prices are very affordable for Miami. We love going to Sushin when we want a more layback dinner reminiscing of the izakayas in Japan. Always my go to place. read more

Something has definitely changed here. Their food used to be so good and now all I can say is that it's acceptable sushi. Unfortunately sushi is some thing that either has to be fantastic or not at all. I have a vegetable bento box. Vegetables, look and taste like frozen vegetables and the California rolls OK. The crab legs look very suspicious. In addition, the restaurant does not look clean and the hallway to the bathroom is disgusting. I can't even describe the smell. I most likely won't be back, which is a shame because it's convenient to home and was always a good to place for good fresh sushi. I have to say every day I have a lesson less patience for businesses unestablished Menz that waste my hard earned money. I could've spent these $30 on pizza then you would be mediocre. read more

Not only is this place right next door to my house, but every time I order from there, whether for take out or dine in, it's always fresh and delicious. My go to are ordering from their bento box menu! The sashimi is my favorite! It comes with a miso soup, salad, mixed tempura, and a California roll for such a great price! I ussually dont do many reviews specially bad ones. But i think in this case i will. I have been a customer for over 10 years and i had to admit their sushi WAS pretty good. Sadly they recently change ownership and man, they are ruining a good hidden gem. Raising prices, taking out sides from orders, they dont even have a menu for you to see if you call. I order a sushi today, and like I always do I order an eel sauce and spicy mayo, which they charge me for, and i dont mind. Now what is disrespectful is to get a drop of eel sauce and spicy mayo when they charge for a portion. When i call they told me that is the new portion. Please judge by the photos i upload. I personally wont order from here again and not longer recommended to anybody anymore. read more

I've been coming to Sushin since I was young. I really love the cozy vibes of the restaurant. I can always count on this place for fresh Sashimi. We always get the sushi boat for two and tuna tartare sandwich when we come, and the ice cream tempura is a guilty pleasure I always look forward to. I was sad when they changed management, but the new owners are just as nice and added a bunch of really good Thai options to the menu! I'm happy they're keeping Sushin alive! read more

A local Kendall spot and lne of the few sushi recs that is still reasonable. Gone here a couple of times for dinner but decided to head over for lunch. First came the miso soup. I believe this place is run by a husband and wife team of 2, but dont quote me because it was only my 3rd time there. The soup felt tasty, the tofu was soft and a great starter. Ordered the Lunch 1L. Its chicken teriyaki with fried rice, salad with ginger sauce to add a bit of zest to the meal. Kept it simple and will go back again. $14 with tip. Not bad and satisfull. read more

I used to like this place.... After they moved from their kendall dr location Sushin declined on service and actually on their food as well. After not coming back here for a couple of years, I decided to come back and give it a chance to change my mind. Sadly, I'm here to report that nothing has changed since the last time. We ordered a tempura shrimp roll, house salad, eel roll and a riceless roll. The salad dressing was just okay, and the eel roll let's face it... it is as simple as can get, but the roll wrapped in cucumber was not done well. It fell apart. Also this dish is served on a variety of fish choices but here they only had the imitation crab. Service was not good either, very slow and it almost made me feel as if we were a burden for them. I will not be coming back here anytime soon. #lastchoice. read more

Great food, sushi is fresh and delicious. My boyfriend had the sesame chicken and it was SOOOO warm and flavorful and I would literally go just for that. The shrimp dumplings are to die for, so good and I could eat them everyday. Service was quick, seems like a lot of people order take out there but we sat in and got great service. Prices are good and ambiance is quiet and peaceful. I will return again, so good!!!! read more

We enjoyed the sushi it was fresh and they had some rolls that were brand new to us. At least I have to say the lobster roll was my favorite. We also had incredible steak. The beef was incredibly tender. The taste was unbelievable the prices well I guess they're South Beach prices but it's worth it. It's worth every dime. Everybody that I went with. Enjoyed whatever they ordered. Everything looked beautiful, the drinks they had more sake then I have a new existed. All the drinks look so beautiful I have to tell you my favorite dish was this shrimp tempura with a sauce a little bit spicy but made the shrimp incredible it's well worth stopping by and having a great evening, the ambience is great the service was great, the atmosphere was upbeat and fun. Never ever disappoints! Sushin is my favorite place to eat, I've been to many sushi spots and they never compare. The quality is amazing and the chef is the sweetest who genuinely enjoys making food people love. Today he gifted us a beautifully displayed after-dinner treat, the best oranges we've ever tasted. My colleagues and I were invited here for dinner one night. I had never heard of this small, hidden gem which was close by. It is located inside a shopping plaza between stores and has a lot of parking available. The lady that attended us was attentive and I believe knew one of our colleague. For appetizers, we ordered our own plates of salad, soups, fried rice, and we all shared edamame. For drinks we had sake and Kirin beer. The entree was for us all which was the big boat full of sushi, sashimi, with sides of wasabi and ginger. Everything was yummy! It is probably one of the top, best Japanese food that I've ever had. This was our go-to place when we visited Miami. We started losing hope because Miami has a very bad asian food scene, but thank the heavens we found this place. Definitely a comfort asian food place. I'm so sad...what on earth happened to Su Shin? I've been going to Su Shin since the hay days of the 80's when they were on the 79th Street Causeway just before Pelican Harbor. They were the only ones in town serving sushi and tempura all from behind the bar area. They were the real deal. I've also been to this Su Shin formally on Kendall Drive years ago before they moved to the current location, so when I passed by the other day, I was excited to see it again and couldn't wait to eat there as I know all the Su Shins from Commercial Blvd down to Kendall were all excellent. Sadly I was so disappointed. We ordered the Bento Box lunch which wasn't bad, Chicken Teriyaki and Beef Yakiniku and they both came with California Roll, salad, shrimp and vegetable tempura. The ginger salad dressing was horrible, the kind you'd get from Publix from a bottle. They used to have the best salad dressing that I used on everything! The shrimp tempura was Pre made, frozen and fried when it was ordered. None of what I remembered they actually made was apparent and completely non existent. Plus now their lunch specials had all Chinese selections I thought I was at Panda Express!! What the... If you're a Japanese place, why are you including all these Chinese selections? Who owns the name Su Shin and why are they letting you do this blasphemy??!! Our waitress was Chinese and she spoke to the sushi chef, wok chef in Chinese too so maybe they're a franchise now? But you should stay true to your roots...and the history of Su Shin. Or re -name your place and don't call yourself Japanese. I can't tell you how truly disappointed I am to see this place in today's state...my beautiful memories of Su Shin are no more... read more

Shrimp miso soup. Eel Sumomono. Temaki hand rolls. The Dynamite. Volcano roll. The Bento boxes: Steak Teriyaki, Yakiniku, Sushi and Sashimi Bento Boxes. Delicious Sushi nigiri white tuna, salmon, Tamago. Best Tempura in this area. Its unfortunate though that great Japanese food like Sushin is so expensive. Kampai has Thai food also and does some things well and is cheaper than Sushin. But Sushin does a lot of Japanese food items far better than Kampai. Also the parking at Kampai can be difficult at times. read more

This is THE place to go for a good bento! (And yes, this review is strictly based on their lunch bentos) Been here a couple of times for lunch, and for $11-13, you can enjoy yourself a pretty satisfying bento box meal. I've tried both the sashimi and sushi bento boxes, and so far I like the sashimi better (but the sushi bento is enough for my stomach hehe). For just a dollar more than the sushi bento, the sashimi bento is much more worth it -- with 9 pieces of thick sashimi slices (3 salmon, 3 white, 3 tuna). All the bento boxes come with a California Roll (which is actually pretty good, and it's a roll I don't normally order myself), shrimp & vegetable tempura with sauce, ginger salad, and a delicious, warm bowl of miso soup. All that food for just less than $14 and of good quality. Makes me curious about dinner. Yes I'd come again to try the tuna sandwiches and other stuff on the menu, but at least I know where to get a pretty good bento fix with great portions! So for now, I hold back a star to be fair and try other menu options! read more

Sorry to crush everyones dreams about this sushi experience, but it was my worst yet. First off, there is one sushi chef and one waitress during lunch! Bad idea when your little establishment is rockin with hungry people. Once you walk in, you can assume it's seat yourself otherwise you'll be waiting a loooooong time before someone even approaches you. I felt like a good samaritan and actually did some hostess duties while waiting for our waitress to come around and I let people in on the seat yourself rule. So while we waited more than we should and were about to leave to another sushi restaurant nearby, the waitress finally comes over for our order. We could tell she was rushed so we were as efficient as possible. Nothing complicated...two waters, a Bento Box and a Shrimp Tempura Roll with eel sauce on the side. After waiting another unreasonable amount of time, we finally got our meals. I speak for my roll...it was all rice! They looked rather large, but it was all a fraud. The roll was mostly rice. It fell apart easily and was not wrapped tight like my usual shrimp tempura rolls. In addition, waitress never came around to replace my eel sauce or water refill and was literally running from table to table. This pressure of course compromises the service. She never smiled, seemed irritated and rushed the whole time. I said thank you several times- once when she brought out food and the second time for the bill and both times I was ignored as she hurried off to handle something else. You would assume that service was fast, but the truth is it took almost an hour and a half between start to finish and we were only 2 people with very simple orders. Sorry Sushin, no plans on returning anytime soon...your rolls weren't worthy and neither was your service! read more

We have been regulars for a long time. Food is excellent but the service is absolutely mediocre. One the waitresses is very kind yet traumatized by the other employees. We kept going back for the food and also to encourage the nicer waitress. The second waitress is plain rude. Remembers everyone's order but tries to bully us into sitting in the worst corners even when the place is empty. This evening there were many empty sits, I chose a table away from the front door but she insisted that we needed to be more than 2 guests to sit at that specific table. 2 minutes later a couple walked in and sat themselves at that very table. The best sushi in the kendall area hands down. Would often frequent the location on 88th street and this one is arguably better. Have known the sushi chef for years and no one does it better than him. Sushi is always fresh and tempura is light and crispy. Highly recommend this little spot. read more
