I've never actually been to this place, however I do order delivery from here every now and then and it always hits the spot. The maki rolls I've had have always been fresh (i.e. the veggies and seafood tasted fresh - no fishy smell). So far I've ordered: cali, yellowtail, alaskan. All were good. The salmon and beef teriyaki combos are my favorite. Always flavorful and well portioned. The shumai and gyoza are good too. Delivery is quick, delivery min. is on $8, and they allow substitutes, which is awesome. Their salad dressing is tangy, not overly sweet like a lot of ginger dressings tend to be. Satisifed a late night sushi craving. Around 10:30PM on Sunday night, I wanted some sushi for dinner (without breaking the bank) and was going to order from my usual "cheap" sushi - Sakura Tokyo II. However, they were closed! So I turned to their sister restaurant, Sakura Tokyo instead, which is a little further from me. To my delight, both restaurants have very similar menus with similar pricing. I ordered the Maki Combo C (salmon avocado, tuna avocado, yellowtail avocado) and the Crazy Roll. The Maki Combo was good! The fish in all three of the rolls tasted fresh and the rice tasted freshly cooked (read: not dried out) as well. My girlfriend was surprised I could get 18 pieces of sushi rolls for $8.75 and have it taste this good! We enjoyed these rolls first which were an easy eat and then moved onto the Crazy Roll. The Crazy Roll was a little messy! The sauce was kind of all over the roll, but given that it was only $7.50 for 8 HUGE pieces, we were not upset (just had to make sure we used our chopsticks carefully). They roll contained spicy yellowtail inside & cucumber inside and topped with eel, avocado and roe, we were not upset. They had just the right amount of crunch inside - a lot of times I run into issues with restaurants having too much crunch on their sushi rolls and it changes the whole texture for me. This was not the case, a little crunch, but still the texture you'd expect from maki rolls. All in all, the delivery was a success. We were more than full based on our order, and it only cost $16.25 + tax & tip. I would definitely order from them again when ordering late (otherwise I'd stick to Sakura Tokyo II since it's the same people, same menu, but a little bit closer by). I like visiting establishments with bright shiny A's in the window...although I feel that some people are color copying them and selling them on the blackmarket...but I digress. I was being lazy and looking for some delivery to my apartment in Bed Stuy (aka food delivery wasteland) and Sakura Tokyo popped up on seamless web. YAY more options! The only other sushi that delivers to my house is Sushi Tatsu on Bedford, and I hadn't heard great things about them so I decided to give Sakura a try. I ordered the shumai miso soup and a few basic rolls; tuna and eel avocado. The miso soup was REALLY good. Most miso I've had is either too salty or too bland, but their miso soup was great. The shumai was pretty damn tasty too. The rolls weren't that great. They were edible, but not great. The tuna in the tuna roll seemed to be chopped up, similar to the way spicy tuna rolls are prepared. Usually tuna rolls have a nice chunk of tuna, not chopped up pieces. The tuna also wasn't super fresh and wasn't too flavorful. It was ok, but I wouldn't order it again. The eel roll was really fatty and they put a ton of eel sauce on it which made the rolls kind of fall apart when I tried to pick them up. I doubt I'd order the eel rolls again either. I'll probably order from Sakura Tokyo again, just not their sushi. Judging from the soup and the shumai, maybe their hot entrees would be better? So the food is just excellent ! The portion are more than enough to kill your hunger and it does not cost much compared to other japanese places. The order by phone was quick. I took the chicken teriyaki with fried chicken rice and added gyoza (pork) and salmon roll... It was just delicious for a take out ! So normally the food here is good but I have to write about the experience I just had with the delivery driver. I live in a good neighborhood in Brooklyn but the driver refused to come up and deliver my food because in his words "there were too many black people in front of the building". After I called him out on saying something so racist, he then proceeded to come upstairs to the 2nd floor, knock, and leave my food on the doorknob as he walked away. I called the restaurant to report his behavior and the woman who was taking orders laughed me off and said he only works there 1 or 2 days a week and was new. I live around the corner from this joint, so it's generally my go to spot for some quickish Asian food. They do delivery too, but since it's so close to my house I rarely bother. In general the meals are pretty solid. You can get a couple of the platters for around 6 bucks, and they are usually more than I can eat. Try the Tokyo Fried Chicken and the Beef Teriyaki. The fried cutlets are good too, so is curry bowl. The Chicken Teriyaki is alright as well, but not my favorite. If you eat in, they bring the food to you and serve you green tea, which is a nice touch. The dining room is nothing spectacular, this is primarily a take out joint, but it's clean and warm. I've never tried the sushi, but I've heard good things. read more

Pay the extra $1 for white meat, i really regret that I didn't! I'm a little picky when it comes to my meat but this was truly inedible. This place has become my go-to place for sushi in the neighborhood. The rolls could be a little better, but overall I have been pleased every time I have gone. I always go in after calling in my order, and I never have to wait beyond 10 minutes for my rolls, unless I don't call in. That is only because I like spider rolls which need to be fried. The staff is friendly enough and know my face enough to know I get the spider roll. The prices are also good, for the price of one spider roll in Manhattan, I can get two (give or take a dollar or two) here. It is in a great location too. I really, really ought to have written this review months ago. That being said, I love this place. OK, let me rephrase... I love this place's presence on delivery.com! Bushwick is a culinary wasteland, and shortly after moving here I feared that the only delivery I'd be paying for would be from Domino's. Thank you, dear Sakura Tokyo, for providing pretty legit sushi (for Bushwick, that is). In fact, your sushi is quite delicious and super affordable! One gripe - Last time I ordered the avocado in my rolls was BEYOND mushy... as in guacamole-esque. Blergh. Oh well. One less than thrilling encounter will not end my love affair with Sakura. And they had the nerves to blame me for writing the wrong address while the confirmation e-mail had my correct address on it! Ugh. I'd get home at 5:30 a.m. so drunk I could barely ride my bike. And yet I always managed to get up before the lunch special was over. I wish I could review with zero stars. Terrible. I have given them a few chances but tonight was the last one. The food isn't terrible but never consistent. My real issue is that they. They never deliver to my door! They call on the phone and refuse to come to the 4th floor, of my elevator building. Then tonight after I told the gentleman he had to bring the food up a women from the restaurant called back to explain that it was "too dangerous" for him to come to my door. It was 6 o clock in the evening, light out, and I'm perfectly safe in my building. This has happened every time I have ordered. I will never be ordering from them again. Part of the fee and tip of delivery food is that it is DELIVERED to my apartment. I should have to change out of pajamas, and leave a sleeping baby to go downstairs to collect delivery food. Sakura- you are horrible with horrible customer service. We were luckily refunded the tip, which was not deserved at all, and given a coupon for the site, however the responsibility shouldn't fall on the ordering site- it should be on Sakura. Tonight I stopped by at 10:55! Yeah I know they were closing but I was hungry after a hard day at work :). The girl that works there is such a sweetheart, she let me in and they made my order so I was very happy. I had 2 rolls and they were full of fish meat and tasty! Unlike the spot on Franklin! Also if you have a complaint or suggestion they seem open to making it right. Also try eating inside, they keep it very clean which is a plus for me! This is a welcome addition to our delivery roster. My roommate and I each got a maki combo - 3 rolls for about $8.50. There's a couple different options - I went for various fish w/ avocado, he got the spicy assortment. Of the two, I'd say mine was better - spicy rolls run the risk of being more sauce and less fish, and Sakura fell into that trap, with spicy rolls that were merely okay. On the other hand, my tuna/salmon/yellowtail w avocado were pretty good, especially for the price. I also got a miso soup which came w big pieces of seaweed and little pieces of tofu. It was a nice inexpensive complement to the rest of the meal. Overall, I'd say that Sakura falls nicely in between the levels of 50% St. Marks sushi and serious restaurant quality. Given that I love sushi, but have mixed feelings about both bellyaches and spending lots of money, Sakura works nicely for me. read more

I've ordered take-out from here twice now and I am less than impressed. Their service is prompt and accurate which I appreciate. However, the food, which is arguably the most important, especially when it comes to take-out is meh at best. The first time I ordered, I got two sushi rolls and wasabi shumai. The sushi was forgettable. I literally don't remember if I liked it or not. The wasabi shumai was....interesting. For lack of a better word, it was just too wasabi-y. I couldn't even finish all of them because I thought my nose was going to get burned off. Now, I appreciate a good wasabi burn, but that was just too much. Most recently, I ordered an avocado salad and a beef don. The avocado salad was almost laughable. For 2.95 I got a container full of ice berg lettuce topped with MAYBE a quarter of an avocado sliced, sesame seeds and a slice of tomato. Definitely not worth it. The beef don was OK. It tasted like a beef don, but there was ALOT of rice. That being said, I thought it was worth the 7.50, but I wouldn't get it again. Bottom line, fairly standard, bordering on substandard Japanese takeout, but prices are reasonable and delivery is quick, so there's something to be said for that. I don't think I will be ordering from them again, but I wouldn't dissuade someone from ordering and deciding for themselves. read more

Came here to get lunch the other day. They have lunch specials and seems decently priced rangin from $7-10. I ordered the 3 rolls which comes w soup/soda. I also order the spicy kani salad just incase it was not filling. The spicy kani salad was really good!!! Its actually slightly spicy which i dont think i've ever had it like that at any other japanese restaurants. The sushi rolls were good but i felt there was too much rice so it filled me up after eating like 1 roll and a half. Had to take the rest home. Let me preface by stating that this is strictly a review for delivery and I only order one thing lol Now, this place is FANTASTIC!! When I'm in the mood for something quick, cheap and delicious when I don't feel like cooking and/or leaving the house they are my go-to spot. While I only order the avocado and cucumber rolls, they are super fresh. You can tell that they take time to prepare your meal and get it out to you. I've only recently began eating sushi but I'm glad this place is available to us BK folk who live in an area with very little options for quality food. I usually order delivery.com from Sakura and the sushi is very good. Today i had to stop by because i was over charged for my last order online. The place is clean, I see an A in the window from the dept of health. Also they do ALOT of deliveries, the phone will not stop ringing. And we know, when it comes to restaurants (especially raw fish) turnover is everything. The fact that Sakura is selling more fish means it will likely be fresher than it's slower competitors. Also I only ever order sushi here (sushi & sashimi combos and sushi rolls, eel avocado, spicy salmon, white tuna avocado, sweet potato, oshinko, etc.) But I see that fully half the menu is cooked food, tempura, don buri, curry rice, tako yaki (octopus balls) and other real japanese specialities. Definitely going to try some of these in the future. Note: this location is still hood, so if you are coming for more than than a loud meal in a spartan dining area, I would recommending take out or delivery. read more
