Have been here a few time. Food and service has been spot on, each time. Great Happy Hour specials. My only complaint is that the music is sooooo loud each time. The open space does not have any sound absorption so the sound is intense. read more

Great service and several intriguing options on the menu. Comfortable dinner spot, "business casual" appeal. Probably better for a date night small group than for a family or group of 6+. If I were to make any criticism, a lot of the menu items I tried were a bit safe for what I was expecting. In essence, everything was good enough, but I had slightly higher expectations for the Pinchos and Raciones we tried (don't recall them other than the gambas al ajillo). My arroz del dia was quite good, though I wished they had a different paella that evening -- the mariscos seemed a bit too daunting for us. Perhaps you're at the mercy of the menu a little bit, which adds to the appeal for giving this another try. read more

We really enjoyed our experience here. We devoured everything as soon as it came so unfortunately I didn't take any pictures. They currently have a chefs special menu, we got the the gambas rocas from that. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. The fried goat cheese was sooo delicious it was light and crisp and creamy on the inside. The dates stuffed with almond and wrapped in bacon almost melted in your mouth. The bacalao frito was also amazing. They gave you nice pieces of fish and the aioli was perfectly paired. We finished with the pulpo a la plancha and the croqueta. The croquetas were another great crispy creation. The pulpo was a little tough but I could've had endless amount of the green sauce drizzled atop it. We got three different cocktails: Malaga Nights, Caribbean Pisco, and White Shoes(from the chef special menu) each one was so refreshing. The staff was friendly. Came in for my birthday with my family at 4:15 pm on Sunday the 11/20. Its a Sunday so usually Dinner would be in the plans. We were told it was brunch still... there was only one more table of 2ppl in the place. We asked if dinner was served and were told ir would start at 5pm. What a shame! I was long wanting to experience the food here. Perhaps if they were a bit more realistic and accommodating, they may have more customers...? I don't give 5 stars lightly, but Sala has been consistently excellent. At first, I had doubts because the locale is new and right by the subway. First off, you cannot hear the subway (double glass and new construction can do that). The ambiance is truly outstanding! Music is perfectly 360 at the perfect volume, which allows you to have a conversation as the place guests are busier and louder. The lighting is warm; the decor is really special and stylish. Now, the food... pretty great as well!! Last time we shared the lentils with chorizo, dates with bacon, patatas bravas, green salad, and the special - secreto ibérico. Everything delicious. All that said, the prices are a bit high for the portion size. Service is super friendly and everyone speaks English and Spanish (yay). For an even more upscale service (it's already excellent), they could pay more attention to small details, like resetting the napkin when you leave the table and come back. I loved this restaurant. I used to go to the one in Manhattan and was sad that it closed. This version is beautiful. It is very open with two bars. They have a great happy hour. The menu is extensive with wonderful, true Spanish Tapas and main courses. The bacon wrapped dates are divine. So are the drinks and wine selection. The staff is very warm and friendly. We just spent an amazing dinner at SALA. The service was perfect from the moment we arrived until we left. The food was amazing. Everything we ordered was prepared perfectly. This place has become one of our favorite places. They have a full bar, great cocktails and a select wine list. Couldn't have asked for a better experience at Sala Astoria. Literally transported me to Spain with the tapas, ambiance and flamenco show that me and my boyfriend did not even know they were having that night. Their cheesecake was also amazing! Plan to come back soon. read more

When I found out that one my favorite spanish restaurant moved to Astoria , I was relieved and excited the new space / location . The Ambiance was different from the original one in the city which was more cavernous. The new location in astoria is more modern because of the high ceiling . The food from what I remember is the same from the gambas , croqueta , goat cheese with honey . The paella was not my favorite ( it tasted like there's tomato ) but the flamenco show made up for it. Service in general was ok . The host is great but our male server was lacking . Nothing training can't fix. I've also been here for brunch and it was good ! I think we need to market the place more to fill the huge new space . My friend who I used to go with in city lives and Astoria and she's mentioned that the locals aren't familiar with the restaurant so it's imperative that the word spreads . With more people this place can be a hot spot which I wouldn't mind commuting to from the upper west side . read more

I cannot get enough of the sangria, a pitcher is a must for me, whether I'm with 1 person or a group of friends. I love this place! I went with a large group and we sat in the lounge area and it was a great time. I was also really happy to find that there were various vegan options. I tried the pan tamuca, patatas bravas, and three other vegetable forward dishes involving tomatoes, asparagus and green beans. It was promising but incomplete. Service was friendly but disorganized. Our server, who seemed new, did not write down our order. Tapas orders are long. They should be written down (or typed into those tablets that they walk around with but never seem to use). Unsurprisingly, items were missed. The olives didn't come until we had gotten all of the rest of our food and asked "where are the olives - shouldn't they have been first?" We just gave up on the potatoes that we had ordered but the server never entered. The server did remember to enter in the chorizo. But then returned to say they were out of, even though chorizo is not very perishable, so not understanding how you run out of it. More concerning still, the canceled chorizo wound up on our check. Food was generally good. The scallops were excellent. The tortilla omelet and bread with tomato were very good. The goat cheese was solid. However, ham croquettes were way too heavy on bechamel and way too light on ham. Overall, $100+ for a beer, a lemonade, four scallops, four pieces of fried goat cheese, four bechamel croquettes, tomato bread, an omelet, and a dessert of olives is a bit steep.
