My wife and I came in after a show, and they honored our reservation quickly, even as we showed up almost a half hour early. The place was pumping with energy and talk. The table next to us turned over quickly. The Shishito margarita was excellent. I could not believe how clearly the flavor came through. Server guided us well to the right number of plates none of which disappointed, and even saw we needed more bread for the leftover sauces, as well as guiding me to an excellent Manzanilla Sherry. My friend and I stopped by here for a dinner on a random Thursday. We did not make a reservation in advance but was still able to getting seating at the chef's table. They are a tapas style restaurant so recommendation is getting about 2-3 dishes per person to share. The place itself is pretty vibey with dim lighting. We did see some big groups in there so I think it's pretty good for groups and for dates as well. We were not super hungry so we decided to get three dishes and one dessert to share. -Ahi Tuna Canario: This was just alright, a little on the sour side due to the sauces they used. The tuna was pretty fresh and they had fresh avocado underneath. -Croquetas Setas: Mushroom croquetes - this was also just alright, comes with three pieces. Very fried and crispy. -Chicken Wings: This was pretty decently, the flavors were good but nothing too special -Turron: This dessert was so good - highly recommend. It was the best item we had tonight, the cake was so good and the ice cream went so well with the cake. I have been here a couple of times. They are usually very friendly here and food is above average. The prices have climbed in the recent years, as with all the restaurants. We came most recently for happy hour. The espresso martini was happy hour sized, much smaller than normal. The taste was good though. The sangria was great, full-sized. We tried the happy hour burgers. Good flavor, small patty, and the bread was a little dry. Stopped by Boqueria for a quick happy hour with my colleagues. Their tapas were very solid! The shrimp was delicious with an addicting sauce and garlic pieces that can be perfectly soaked up with their warm bread. The mushroom croquettes were also very solid with the creamy, mushroom-y filling. The calamari was chewy and crispy with a light batter. The brussel sprouts were super crispy and nicely done!! The churros were alright; I wish they were chewier in the middle. My colleagues said drinks were good too. The dim lighting and dark furniture created an intimate vibe. Finally got a chance to try out boqueria ! Located in the heart of West Hartford center , the restaurant was spacious with friendly staff , and the have a beautiful outdoor seating area which is perfect for the summer . They also have an amazing happy hour menu which is M-F 3-6 and sat /sun 4-6 on ! I started of with the rose sangria which was really good ( small size ) but delicious. For tapas we started with the mushroom croquettes, they came with 3pieces ! Very tasty and delicious will highly recommend. The patatas bravas were crispy , and good size for sharing. The chicken wings were sweat and sour flavoured , cooked perfectly and had plenty of flavour, we enjoyed them ! Finally we got the seafood paella ! Note they make it fresh so takes about 45 min to cook ( but we enjoyed the tapas while we waited ) The paella was really good flavours were really, good and seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly . Staff were friendly and able to effectively accommodate all our orders and keep food and drinks coming out with a good flow. All the tapas we tried were tasty and well portioned to share. The pulpo was slightly overcooked which was a touch disappointing. The seafood paella was divine. The rice was packed full of deep seafood flavor which clearly took a long time to build. Some of the grains on the bottom of the pan had a nice crispiness that added a fun textural pop. The different seafood proteins were also delicate and perfectly cooked. 4.5 stars I really enjoy this place every time I come here! The staff is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend making reservations if you're coming anytime after 5pm. This place can get packed quickly! I'll start with my not so favorite things first. Things I'd skip: The Sangria and the Paella. I know these are Spanish restaurant staples but both here don't do it for me. They both could use improvements in my opinion. Both are on the bland side compared to other Spanish restaurants I've been to. Both the veggie and seafood paella could use some more spice and salt. The Great stuff: The menu pricing is fair especially for the UES but the highlight of their menu is the happy hour menu which you can catch M-F 3-6pm and Saturday and Sunday 4-6pm. Excellent selection of tapas and great drinks. Drink Highlights: the Shishito Margarita (get the pitcher if it's two of you!). My husband loves the dry martini they have. For the non-alcoholic drinks, I recommend a drink they have called the O negative. It is a grapefruit drink with ritual tequila (zero alcohol). Very tasty and makes you feel like you're actually drinking alcohol because of its taste and beautiful presentation. Food highlights: The Caesar salad, pan con tomate, croquettes (ham or mushroom, both are delicious) not recommended if you have a dairy allergy, the bocadito de jamon sandwich, patatas bravas. The vibe and decor of the restaurant is very Spanish feeling (having been to Spain I can attest to that). Overall, I highly recommend coming here, especially for happy hour! I have been here many times. They have an amazing happy hour and their food/drinks are really good. So why only 2 stars? I'm here on a Wednesday and had a reservation. The restaurant was pretty empty. Instead of seating us at a corner spot or roomier table, the hostess squeezed us in a tight table in the middle of a row of tables. There were many available tables and I asked if there was something else free because we intented to order a lot of food and was told no. To add insult to injury, they sat another couple at the table right next to ours even with so many free tables around! I know that sounds like such a trivial complaint, but it doesn't make sense! The host was very kind and accommodating to my request on the seating. I will say keep in mind it is a much rather smaller place than one would normally seat multiple families in one area but I think the ambiance was purposely mimicking layouts in Spain. I met my friends at Boqueria for Saturday brunch. I'd definitely recommend getting a reservation, as it's a fairly busy brunch spot! We ordered churros, papas bravas, and a larger paella, all to share. Churros were really delicious and fried very crisply with a chocolate nutella dipping sauce. We finished this quickly. The papas were also yummy and came out warm with great seasoning. The paella was good but maybe just short of great. It was packed with lots of seafood so it was great value in that regard. I felt like it could have used more flavor, herbs and salt. We ended up ordering a bit too much, so I think the portion sizes are healthy and prices are alright. Time to update my review. We have been going to Boqueria UES since it opened and the food has always been top notch. Thankfully, that hasn't changed, the level of service has dropped....a lot. In short, we were in and out in less than 60 minutes. Not how I would like to spend a Saturday night out. When we arrived, we were crammed into a crowded bunch of tables when 85% of the restaurant was empty. We had: - Charcuterie - delicious - Potato Croquettes with Mushroom - very good - Eggplant tapas dish - good but I wouldn't get it again - Potatoes Bravas - delicious - Stuffed Dates - very good - Shrimp Dish - very good Again, the food is terrific and the sangria is delicious. Our severs were lovely and helpful but being in and out in under 60 minutes is unacceptable. Sitting on top of another couple in an empty restaurant is unacceptable. With so many great tapas restaurants, we will need to give thought as to whether or not we come back. read more

I was in the UES for an educational dinner at a nearby restaurant but had some time to kill, so one of my colleagues and I thought it would be a good idea to stop here at Boqueria to grab a quick drink. There are a few Boquerias in the city; I went to one downtown many years ago (I think it has since closed) and remember enjoying it, so I was looking forward to seeing that the this location had to offer. Walking in, we were greeted by a large bar area with seating to the right and some tables to the right. We sat pretty close to the door so I didn't have a chance to scope out the whole space. Boqueria is mostly known for tapas - they have a good selection, but since we were eating soon elsewhere we just grabbed a drink. There was no skimping here either - they have a full bar selection including a number of signature and classic cocktails. I decided to go with the pina ahumada which had mezcal, pineapple, orange, and ginger. The drink was good - smooth and refreshing. Service was good, we were taken care of promptly and everyone was friendly. Overall, despite the short stay, I had a good experience at Boqueria and would definitely return for another drink and to rediscover their food menu. read more

Went here off a recommendation from a friend and it was absolutely amazing! Our party of two was sat right away on a Sunday afternoon at one of their tables close to the bar in the front of the restaurant. The ambiance was dimly lit and beautiful. My only complaint was that the front tables were small for a tapas style restaurant. We had to have our waiter pull over the table next to us to fit all of our food. To drink, I ordered the shishito pepper margarita. Easily one of the best drinks I've ever had, and I highly recommend! For dinner, we ordered a large variety of tapas: the top sirloin steak, marinated olives, fried artichokes, serrano ham croquettes, tuna crudo, and a small seafood paella. My favorites of these were the steak (paired with a delicious and light carrot puree that was a perfect match), the fried artichokes (despite them being fried, they still tasted light and fresh), the croquettes (only disappointment was that there were only 3), and the tuna crudo (the cilantro lime marinade made this simple dish, fantastic). The only real disappointment was the seafood paella. It was burnt to the point that we were able to scrape off the char from the bottom of the pan and it was completely black. When we said something to the waiter, he stated that that's how it was supposed to be however in his defense I don't think he knew how tough it really was and how it even tasted burnt. He took this item off of our bill. I would definitely come back here for all of our other tapas, the fantastic and polite service, and vibes of this establishment. read more

Date of visit: 17 June 2023 First Spanish restaurant that I tried since I moved to NYC. I'm sorry I had too many good spanish restaurants in my life (mostly overseas including Spain) but this is just not it. ~ Tortilla Espanola (1/5) ~ The tortilla is PALE. First time having a pale white tortilla. Just from the colour of it I already know it wouldn't taste good. Did it not use any egg yolk??? So obviously there is no egg flavour. Both the eggs and potato tasted very bland, not well seasoned. ~ Creamy mushroom croquettes, truffle allioli (3/5) ~ Ok it's a crispy creamy mushroom croquette alright, nothing spectacular. But I didn't really get any truffle taste. ~ Gambas Al Ajillo (2/5) ~ Ok this is NOT Gambas Al Ajillo. Authentic spanish Gambas dish is made with prawn, or at least larger than medium size shrimp. Look at the size of this, it's just ordinary small shrimps. I think it's the first time ever in my life that I have a Gambas dish in an upscale Spanish restaurant serving small shrimps instead of prawn (or even king prawns). The small shrimp itself are just ok, not the freshest I had. The sauce is not very garlicky either, and lobster reduction non existence. And this tapas cost $19, how do you justify it? ~ Paella de Mariscos / Seafood paella (2/5) ~ The seafood are mussels, squid, clams and shrimp. The shellfish tasted quite fresh. Rice is a bit too hard though. We ordered the S size. Wow it really is SMALL. Almost similar size to the garlic shrimp dish..... also the smallest paella I have ever had in my entire life. I have been to restaurants that offer a smaller size, but they are at least twice this size. At the cost of $29, it's way overpriced. ~ Churros (1/5) ~ One of the worst churros I have ever had. It's SO HARD and dry. A good churros should have a light and pillowy inside, but this churros simply doesn't have an "inside", the entire thing is just a hard shell. ~ Glass of Sherry ~ We are shocked when the glass is served. It's the size of a sample tasting wine glass, and only half full, it's ridiculous. Will I be back? NO Below average food, and way overpriced. This meal cost us $90 per person (with tips), I can get way better food at other restaurants with this price. If this is what an average Spanish restaurant taste like in NYC, then I have lost hope. read more

Walked in for lunch on a Monday and got seated immediately. Service was super friendly and nice. We ordered a small paella and two tapas (manila clams and octopus) and it was delicious. I know other reviews said it took ~45 min for the paella but I guess because of timing in terms of the tapas coming out, it didnt feel like 45 minutes at all. The sauce for the manilla clams goes amazingly well with the bread and we ended up asking for more bread which was not charged! Octopus was cooked perfectly. Would recommend visiting during happy hour (ends at 6pm) to take advantage of the sale. I'd say this is a great place to catch up with friends. Ambiance is nice and the service was great. One note - you can pay using the QR code on the table but we realized late that there's a $1.50 fee to use the online platform to pay. 3rd time back and while I got the paella (still not as crispy as the 1st time I had it to my disappointment) and the Mushroom croquettes which I think are must haves, I also tried some new stuff. Asparagus: nicely charred with hazelnuts, but I preferred the Broccoli over this. Broccoli: very nicely roasted along with the Marconi almonds. I'd get this again for my vegetables. Bacalao: not a must have, it was nice enough for a generous portion of peas and squid ink, along with tender cod. Fideua negra: called a noodle paella, it caught our interest. The noodles are thin and very slimy(?), the texture was a little off putting but interesting to try. Wouldn't get it again though. Chose this as impromptu place for brunch in between watching the marathon yesterday. It was madness yesterday along 2nd Avenue UES and this was a welcome relief. Was able to walk in with 3 friends and got a nice table inside. The host was pretty nice and friendly too. AC was pretty good considering the humidity yesterday. Abigail was our server and was attentive despite the place getting more packed an hour and so after. We started off with a round of drinks (Cava for me, sangria for my friends) and they were pretty refreshing. On to the tapas, we chose the marinated olives, croquetas de jamon (so good!), croquetas de setas (divine!) and the Pan con Tomate (so simple yet so delectable!). We ordered the medium Paella de Mariscos to share and after the wonderful tapas, the paella just rounded off the enjoyable experience. We ordered another round of drinks. The best place for date night, or to take your mother when she's in town (mine is very picky). The ambiance is impeccable with just the right amount of lighting and noise, which is rarely paired with food that is actually good. The cheese and meat boards are a shareable favorite and the gambas are my favorite tapa hands down (the garlic in oil makes for a great dipping sauce when you're done).
