After trying Cava in Los Angeles, I have been looking for a restaurant in the Bay Area that closely resembles it. Therefore, I came across Cava! My boyfriend and I both got build-your-own-bowls with their chicken. One thing I particularly enjoyed was their beets! They didn't have this at Cava, so I was pleased to know they had them here! Their sauces were okay, nothing out of the ordinary for me. The pickles are definitely an acquired taste, as they're not usually the type of pickles I eat. One thing to note is Cava has free pita chips with each order, which I wish was something Sala did as well. Overall, the restaurant was clean and had amazing AC. Although I have recommended some friends to go and try for themselves, I'll honestly stick with Chipotle or Cava when in the perimeters of one. I still think it's worth a try though! read more

My experience here on August 7 was fantastic. My sisters and I went here for lunch. We all made our own bowls, I can't remember how my sisters did theirs, but I remember how I did mine. I started off with saffron rice as the base, roasted eggplant, tzatziki and hummus as sides, lamb for the meat, tomato and cucumber, pickled onions, pickled cucumber, feta cheese, olives, creamy garlic and Greek dressing to finish it off. We also got a mint lemonade and seasonal strawberry lemonade too. The workers there are very friendly too. Service was smooth and solid. And other people were eating here too. It wasn't super packed, but it was smooth sailing. The environment inside is nice and pleasant, especially when shoppers in Walnut Creek need a lunch break. Two metered spots out front, or park at the Chase bank lot behind the restaurant ($7 for 11 hours, though I couldn't select a shorter time for some reason). Clean interior, helpful staff. Their soda and water dispenser is behind the counter, so ask them for cups of water while you're paying. I built a rice bowl with kale, chicken (they also have chickpeas and cauliflower as options), hummus and tzatziki, pickled onion and cucumber tomato salad, and greek and creamy garlic dressing. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. Also got a side of pita chips, since it seemed popular. They fry it fresh, so it took a few minutes to come out, but it was cooked well, still soft and doughy inside with a slightly crispy exterior. I've been here twice now and I immediately fell in love with their Build Your Own Bowl, with fresh and flavorful ingredients. The line tends to be long, but moves quickly. I like to customize a greens & grains bowl. The saffron basmati rice is always a good choice. Then you choose dips- I like the hummus and tzatziki; Proteins are next, and I recommend the lamb! All the toppings mix in well and you can't go wrong. Finally, there's a good selection of dressings. I like the Tahini and Spicy Harissa. I recommend the Pita Chips to go with your meal, especially if they're freshly made!! On my first visit, I had to wait five minutes for a fresh batch, and it was well worth the wait. For dessert, the baklava is perfectly flaky and not overly sweet. A very welcome addition to the Walnut Creek dining scene. I've been around the block with Mediterranean fast casual and I can confidently say this is the real deal. (Note I am vegetarian so can only provide context on those dishes) Food: Exceptional. You could tell the food was very freshly made and prepared. This is often the downfall of other Mediterranean places I've been to. Key is that the falafel balls here were fresh, moist (and not dry). Also the flavor combination of the Mezze market bowl was divine. Portion size was very generous. Also tried the baklava- though it's not made in house- was very delicious. House made lemonade was very good as well. Note that they also have wraps but were not serving them yet during the soft opening when I was there. Ambiance: Thoughtful decor and lighting which makes for a warm and elegant vibe though it is an unpretentious casual spot- my young kids were with me. Service: Owner was there and was very attentive. He let us sample some items like Turkish delight- very generous. It was soft opening so some of the other employees were not as well versed yet on the menu but some modest training will help I'm sure. As someone who loves Cava, I was delighted to find out that there is a restaurant with a similar concept nearby that is 100% halal, seed oil free, and locally owned. Sala just opened recently and I had to try it asap. I went with a bowl and got a side of pita and their creamy garlic sauce. The food tastes homemade. They use fresh ingredients and you can absolutely tell. Very friendly staff. They gave me good recommendations and even let me try some of the meats beforehand. Should I be embarrassed my husband & I try to come here at least once a week since our first visit?! I recently saw a foodie video reviewing this restaurant comparing it to cava and her saying but she never had cava lol and I haven't either so I honestly couldn't tell you either... AND that gooood garlic sauce and lemon parm. I love garlic so I always ask for extra on the side. The first time we ordered the pita chips to try they were freshly made and it changed the game for me! Hella flavor I wasn't expecting & so so good paired with the bowl. I actually saw the owner and his family during our first visit and pretty much saw him every other time I came in too! He was welcoming, friendly, thanking us for the support and even offering to throw our garbage! The rest of the team we encountered so far has also been efficient and always friendly. The place is clean and inviting. For as busy as it gets, I am always able to find somewhere to sit and there is also additional seating outside. I will say, taking it home for takeout didn't hit the same as it does eating at the restaurant. The last time the beef I got was super fatty almost as if they cooked a different cut but I still enjoyed it. I just prefer the other beef I had the times prior, I am also traveling 15 mins... so even my pita chips at home were hard compared to the first time. Waited for years to see who will replace Lemonade - and it's Sala! The set up is very similar to Lemonade if you've been here when Lemonade was open. It's soft opening so there is no wrap option - just bowl option. I got the eggplant bowel because it's eggplant - gotta try them eggplants. Grilled very well, love the sour salad (probably bathe in lemon zest), and the falafel balls are tiny, but do pack a nice punch of flavor. Sit in the restaurant and enjoy the music, ambiance, and the patience from the servers as they explain every detail. Once you got the bowl, there is choice for desserts (baklava) and lemonades/drinks I'm only giving 4 stars at the moment because the options are a bit limited at the moment, and the portion is small - I ate it all!!! read more

My parter is gluten free/celiac and it's necessary we pick places that can accommodate her. Tons of GF labels. The employees were personable and cracking jokes with us, all so friendly. An older lady started bothering the cashier about how they don't have a compost and the cashier handled it eloquently. The falafel was fluffy like a cloud! All the sauces were delicious. My lady said the lamb melted in her mouth. What seemed to be the manager came around to ask how the food was, and all I could give him was a little dance.
