Diners can choose between glass or rice noodles, and I always opt for rice - the flatter shape clings better to the sauce and minced peanuts. The noodles are cooked just right, retaining a pleasant chew, and coated in just enough of that sweet, sour, and savoury tamarind sauce to flavour the dish without drowning it. The wok hay still shines through. True to form, it arrives wrapped in a delicate lattice egg crepe, which is not essential for flavour, but undeniably pretty and giving the dish a regal finish. On a previous visit, I made the mistake of ordering dishes too spicy. This time, the server seemed to instinctively know better and brought the khao pad tom yum with chicken ($21) at a medium spice level. The fried rice was a full-on flavour bomb: punchy tom yum paste layered with aromatic onions, peppers, and fresh herbs. And the aroma? Absolutely intoxicating. I'd highly recommend splurging a little and ordering from the "premium beef" section. The khaw waan beef green curry ($27.50) uses "finger beef," a well-marbled cut carved from between rib bones. The result is deeply flavourful, incredibly tender meat with a luscious gelatinous ribbon of cartilage that adds richness. Green curry can often become too sweet or heavy on coconut, but Sala strikes the balance beautifully. It's creamy without being nauseating, with bold curry flavours still front and centre. The sauce is excellent spooned over the cone of steamed rice and soaking into the tender eggplant scattered throughout. Since my first visit, portion sizes have noticeably increased... we left with a doggy bag of leftovers. Everything arrives well-seasoned on its own, but for those who like to tweak, Sala offers a set of "flavour boosters" so you can dial up the salty, sweet, sour, or spicy elements. Recently, we revisited Sala for lunch over the weekend. This is a neighbourhood favourite when it comes to Thai food. The food and the setting is great! The design and decoration makes you feel like you're in southeast Asia with the TV playing travel videos to Thailand. My favourite is the Khao soi on a cold winter day. It's soupy with a mix of soft and crispy noodles. I ordered mine with shrimp and it was perfection. I also really enjoy the presentation and the server will pour the soup at the table making it quite the experience. We went at lunch time with only a few other parties there. It's a nice spot to enjoy a nice cozy meal with many options, they also have a flight of chilli oil/hot sauce for those who enjoy the heat. Definitely a favourite that's close to home! read more

Sala Kitchen has to be hands down my favourite Thai restauraunt in all of not only Toronto but the GTA. The staff are amazing, shout to Porruthai who always remembers my drink (Viet iced tea) and the Khao Soi with Beef Rib. This beef rib is cooked so beautifully and perfectly every time I'm there, the meat falls off the bone by just jabbing it with your fork and its so moist and delicious. And the boiled egg split in two is perfectly cooked. Such a small detail but some people overboil eggs and you'll see grey on the egg, but at Sala Kitchen its perfectly yellow and not grey meaning the perfect amount of boiled. Ordered app pork jowl, and 3 mains tom yum pad Thai, pineapple curry, larb, and 2 desserts roti and ice cream. Then the tom yum pad Thai had a bit more citrus and kick spicy notes to it noodles nicely done ( too busy eating forgot to take pictures). Larb was not my fav hard to share. Missing lemon grass/ mint notes as per menu. Lettuce was held to the core not separated and put in the basket. Sticky rice hard to get out cucumber sliced really thick bigger than lettuce. A bit tricky to assemble. My least favourite nothing bad just not my thing. Also the added shrimp chips were a nice touch. It think the plates huge plate with noodles make plates look small visually. Service okay no complaints took order delivered food took plates. Gave new plates. Only thing is hard to share or eat curry on small flat plates , bowl would be ideal. This is a Thai restaurant in the Danforth area. I tried: - Chef Mo Pad Thai - with Chicken ($21) - Khao Soi - with Chicken ($21) - Massaman - (Halal) ($27.5) - Thai Roti ($4.50) - Mango with Sweet Sticky Rice - ($11) Overall, the food is great with a nice balance of flavors but not overly strong. I'd recommend the Khao Soi as I found that to have a good flavor while being quite unique. Personally, I found the Massaman quite oily, with the carrots and potatoes undercooked, but the beef was fresh and the flavors were good here. The rice served in the side is cooked nicely, and the Pad Thai is pretty good as well. The mango sticky rice is good as well. The roti is deep fried and a bit oily as well, but it's nice and crispy if that's the type of roti you are looking for. The interior is nice, and the service is fast. No exaggeration -- best Thai restaurant I know of. I learned about this place from an IG reel -- the chef from a great Toronto restaurant said Sala makes his favourite tom yum soup in the city. That instantly sparked my curiosity. I placed an order shortly thereafter and was blown away by the quality and flavours of each dish, including the tom yum soup. We are at danfourth so since this place was on my list, I had to try it, we had the chicken khao soi, service was quick the only thing I didn't like was it was really expensive and the portion size was small. The broth was super flavourful just right amount of heat and their chilli oil was dynamite so flavourful, good heat, the noodles were so good and the chicken was very tender and juicy. Yeah it's just their price was the negative for me and there was a wasp inside and if they can clean their glass that would be great. The broth was so good I would say one of the best Thai food I ever had in my life, I wish they added more you are charging so much money and the portion is so small. There are many average Thai restaurants in Toronto, a few bad ones, and a few stellar ones. Sala has a laid-back ambience, with a mix of traditional Thai decorations, photos of happy diners, and a testament to Muay-Thai boxing. Service was very efficient. The menu had two things crossed off. I'm not sure whether that's because they were out for the day, or because they haven't had time to reprint the menu. I asked for the Som Tham Thai salad and the Jean's Coconut Noodles. Jean Seow was one of the chefs I followed around town because her food was just that good. Unfortunately, it seems like they missed putting an X through this menu item, because it wasn't available. (Which suggests to me a menu reprint is probably necessary.) So I got the Pad Thai without the tamarind sauce. It's called Tom Yum on their website, but had a different name on the menu. When I ordered the salad, the server asked me if spicy was ok, and I said yes. This was as advertised, a crunchy mix of carrot, papaya, a few chilis, and an umami rich dressing. And it was spicy, not overpowering the flavour, but if you can't handle spicy, then make sure you let them know. The Pad Thai was next. The presentation on both the dishes was amazing. I took a bite, and it was hot. Not hot as in spicy. Hot as in I started thinking how many times I've been served gloopy lukewarm Pad Thai in other restaurants without thinking about it. Sweet, savoury, a bit of heat, this was a phenomenal dish. I always enjoy a good Pad Thai without tamarind, and this was amazing. The shrimp chips tasted like shrimp (something that needs to be said, even though it sounds idiotic), and were a nice textural addition to both dishes. And I can't forget the roasted peanuts in the salad doing the same thing. So, to me this is one of the stellar Thai restaurants in town. I will definitely be returning. And a tip for all patrons: bring folding money, they currently offer a 10% discount if you do. read more

I LOVE Thai food! I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sala Modern Thai Kitchen with a couple of friends and the food was outstanding! I even met the owner, Chef Mo, who is so warm and inviting. She even invited me into the kitchen to shoot a few pics. Spectacular! Our evening started with Golden Baskets and Thai Calamari for appetizers. What a great start! Both were delicious! Our main courses included Chicken Khao Soi, Pad Kee Mao, and Lobster Pad Thai. Each dish was cooked to perfection! The khao soi was beautifully presented, with the chicken and sauce poured over the noodles at our table. The pad kee mao was a more rustic looking dish, while the lobster presentation was a work of art! I was so tempted to defy my shellfish allergy and dig in! The desserts were the perfect finish to this excellent meal. We had Banana Ice Cream, MangCo (Mango Sticky Rice with Mango Ice Cream), and BuddyMe (Roti Pancake with Coconut Ice Cream). I loved not only the presentation but the authentic flavors. This is a vegan friendly restaurant and they serve halal meat too. The Khao Soi Beef Rib was magical. The meat was so tender and the sauce was so incredibly delicious. The king prawn dish absolutely blew me away. I honestly thought they were giant lobster tails. A foodie friend suggested that we meet at Sala modern Thai kitchen and bar. What a fantastic choice. We ordered to share the mango salad. It was so delicious and it had a different seasoning in it that I've never tasted in a mango salad. We were trying to figure it out. Perhaps it was sumac. Then we shared the coconut rice. It came in a cone shape which was so artistically presented. It also had black sesame in it, which complemented the coconut flavour very well. We ordered mixed veggies with tofu, which also came with plain steamed rice. The veggies were so yummy and savoury. And finally, we also shared the green curry shrimp and eggplant. It was absolutely delicious. I also had a Thai iced tea. Which was extremely delicious as well. I want to note that the staff worked together so beautifully. They are clearly a fantastic team. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Our main server was extremely helpful to suggest dishes to us based on questions she asked of us and she really knocked it out of the park. So happy we were in the area and decided to try some place new! We had an early dinner so we were first in for dinner. Thank goodness! In followed a bunch of people and order pick ups Service was really great. The people here are really nice and genuine. They're so incredibly friendly and the food came out faster than I expected. We started off with the tom yum calamari. Omg. So good. I know I will crave this. I love the seasoning on there. I ordered the pad Thai which was delicious! Love the texture of the noodles and flavor was great too. There's so much tofu though. Next time I might just request no tofu in mine if that's possible. Does anyone remember the old Salad King restaurant on Gould street before it was renovated and moved to Yonge Street? That was a special place not only because it was organized chaos but also because it was the only Thai restaurant in Toronto at the time that didn't over sweeten its food, thereby creating a taste true to this rich southeast Asian cuisine. Sala Modern Thai is a worthy disciple. I don't know if they are related (probably not) but Sala has that authentic heat without being sweet, that charred and Smokey hint in their noodles, and that rich curry flavour that you only get by not skimping on the spices and taking the time to cook them fully, extracting maximum flavour. The Penang curry in particular is very authentic...I lived in Malaysia for a year so I can speak with some authority here. The noodles are also great, good texture, not over cooked and imbued with that essential charred flavour. read more

Great dine-in experience! We got the pad thai and pineapple curry. Both were great! They were made with mild/no spice, but they provide 5-6 spices on the table to customize your spice level. Also, while I enjoyed the cone of rice, it was not enough for the amount of curry. I will make additional rice when I eat my leftovers. We made a reservation about 5 days before for 5pm on a Saturday as there were only 5pm and 8:30 reservations available; however, I don't think a reservation is necessary. We have been talking about trying Sala for a good 2 years now. For whatever reason, we'd end up eating elsewhere....but today was finally the day! Upon entering, it's got a unique and modern decor. With the wintry wind, they are doing their best to keep the cold wind out. I appreciate that. We decided on the crispy pork belly pad Thai and he got the massaman curry, which is a limited item. Neither disappointed...in fact, I'm so glad I got the pork belly over my regular chicken! There was only one waiter and we were guessing one kitchen cook as items were coming out one at a time. My only complaint was that as delicious as the dishes were, I do wish they were a little (temperature) hotter. We will be back to try the pad see ew and other items. I have been a fan of this restaurant for years. I love the decor and the authenticity of their flavours. I brought my best friend and we ordered the following: 1) Thai milk tea- a tad too sweet but when the ice melted it was great. 4/5 2) papaya salad- they adjust the spiciness. So nice to be in a real Thai restaurant. You know right away from the Thai flags hanging. And then once I saw the Laab, a traditional Northern Thai dish, I new we hit it big.
