Came to Bangkok Garden for their lunch buffet, which for its price is amazing to try out what this place can offer. Their tasting menu is basically like a food court's or beginner's guide to Thai food, with classics like green, yellow, red curry as well as phad see eew noodles, pad thai, and a noodle soup station. Overall, this is a very popular and optional place to bring people new to Thai and vegetarians (as they have a pretty good veggie selection); however, some of the food definitely could have been hotter. The reason why I mention "for people new to Thai food" is due to some missing classics like papaya salad, mango sticky rice, fried banana blossom, pad kra pao, etc. and the flavor profile was on the more gentle side instead of the strong punchy basil or saucy dishes and the spice level is mild at most compared to what other Thai places offer in Toronto. This could just be a regional or personal preference so YMMV. Of what we sampled, the pad see eew noodles, their meats section including various chicken dishes, the spring roll, and banana fritters were very delicious. With their fish curry and fried rice being my favorite. We did order a Thai Ice Tea just to try and it was the right amount of concentration and sweetness. It wasn't too much ice (like in Thailand) or too sweet in some other Thai places downtown. It was a perfect balance for Toronto. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is very well decorated, with an indoor koi fish pond and lots of seating: front of house with 8-10 plus 4 bar seating, inside the main area has several platforms totaling 30-50 seats and a mezzanine floor for privacy with another 30+. The whole place probably could handle 80+ in a combination of seated 2+ person tables and bench seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It doesn't look like it is wheelchair accessible, YMMV. This place does fill up super fast, get here within the first 45-60 mins of the lunch buffet or make a reservation ahead of time. They have a good selection of food including a noodle soup bowl bar, pad Thai, yellow/green/red curries, fried rice, spring rolls and a small selection of desserts and fruit. For the price of $24.99, it's really not bad especially for how much food is these days. In terms of the authenticity and quality, also not bad, but nothing amazing. I would say the fish dish was their best.we came early so the food was not as hot anymore but after staying a bit with a few rotations of dishes, we got some piping hot spring rolls :). It is missing some of your classic Thai dishes in my opinion such as mango sticky rice, gra pow, khao soi, so if you're looking for some of those popular northern Thai dishes, this is not the place. They didnt have mango sticky rice which is the quintessential Thai dessert but instead they had coconut sticky rice with mung bean (the mung bean was on the "too sweet" side for an Asian palette but certainly can accommodate other palettes), and there was jackfruit sticky rice. Now, I'd raved about this if the jackfruit was fresh not canned (but sadly these were canned). All the other dessert options were nice to try but nothing that makes you leave and dream about coming back for. Overall there is a handful of quality items (from the savoury section) but at the price point of $33.50/per person, it's not something I'd recommend to anyone I know. We enjoyed a delicious meal at Bangkok Gardens last weekend. The restaurant has moderately nice ambiance and I really loved the water garden, which I passed by on my way to the rest room. THE FOOD: - LEMON SHRIMP SOUP TOM YUM GOONG The Tom Yum Goong was really good and it came with a nice quantity of shrimps (3 big shrimps) a delicious lemon flavoured broth, mushrooms, lemongrass, lime leaves, and bird's eye chili. The portion was a little on the smaller side but it was really good. MIXED VEGETABLE STIR-FRY PAD PAUK The mixed vegetable stir fry was really good and it included carrots, bok choy, broccoli, and other mixed vegetables. The flavour was really good and it wasn't too saucy. I enjoyed eating this with our entrees. GRILLED SEAFOOD SATAY AAHARN TALAY SIEP MAI YANG This dish was really good but arrived differently than we anticipated. It came with three skewers, which included grilled shrimp, squid and mussels marinated in a curried coconut milk. This dish was also served with a delicious piquant garlic dipping sauce (the employees thought it might be too spicy for me) on the side, which I used on all my proteins and rice. The garlic dipping sauce was exquisite! EMERALD CURRY GAENG KIEOW WAAN The Emerald green curry was my favourite dish. We ordered this with beef and the flavour composition was phenomenal. The dish was made with coconut cream, fresh basil, and lime leaves. We ordered two bowls of jasmine rice to go with our dishes and the meal was really good. I believe the reviews have a low rating because the prices are high and the portions are smaller than other restaurants. Would we come back? The pad Thai is very saucy which I don't mind but may not be everyone's cup of tea. There was also soft bone chunks in the chicken. Mediocre Thai restaurant with slow service and beautiful decor. Restaurant is quite big and there is ample seating. I got the Thai chicken wings and pineapple fried rice. The chicken wings were great: crispy and well seasoned. The fried rice was very greasy and quite bland. The servers weren't very attentive and it took some time for the food to come and for us to pay the bill as their system was down. The restaurant feels quite dated and at this price point, there are many other Thai restaurants in the downtown core that rival Bangkok Garden, such as Pai or Koh Lipe. Went to this restaurant after the movies and it was definitely a great place to wind down. The atmosphere and service was great. The entire aesthetic of the restaurant really elevated my dining experience. It felt like a zen garden with running fountain streams and great interior design. I would say if you like a beautiful restaurant to take your date, this is a great place! However, the food was a bit disappointing. I ordered the Pad Thai with a thai iced tea. I've made this exact order many times at other restaurants, but this time it was really below par. The Pad Thai tasted like almost artificial: the sauce was too sweet like ketchup, undercooked, and none of the ingredients blended together well. The Thai iced tea was also too sweet and as if it was made from artificial ingredients. The pad see ew my friend ordered was a little better but still does not have that authentic Thai taste. If you wanted to get some good Thai noodles, just go to Salad King down the street. What a gem! I was recommended by my massage therapist to go to this restaurant for the best Thai food in Toronto, and I was not disappointed. My massage therapist worked at Elm spa for many many years (Keisha Davis) and she said that the staff at Bangkok Gardens shared a change room with them. Keisha mentioned how the owners of this restaurants come from Thailand/specifically import spices from Thailand to get their food to truly taste authentic. I went on a Friday for lunch around 12:40pm and we were the first ones seeded in this unassumingly big restaurant. The interior design is gorgeous, with a running water little pond with koi fishes swimming inside, an upper floor with more tables, a big giant Buddha statue that was not in your face, but more classy and subtle than you expect. My friend ordered the yellow curry with chicken (Yum!) And I ordered the red curry with chicken (also good, but I preferred the yellow curry dish and overall just now of a fan of green curry but that was not one of the lunch options available). To be honest, the curry was not what I had expected. Here in Canada and in the States, the curries that I've had are thick, creamy and very very rich (like fatty-tasting rich and thick) of a sauce, but the curry served here, I think, is authentic and likely how they serve/cook it in Thailand. It's a lot lighter, not as heavy, more "watered down", but it was surprisingly better than those thicker curries because Bangkok Gardens' curry is one that you will not have a problem finishing and still feel good and satisfied after eating, vs. getting sleepy/itis after a lunch meal. We also had the lychee sticky rice. A very good twist on the classic mango sticky rice. Our wait staff, Annie, persuaded me to try the Thai Iced Tea, and I'm so happy she did! It was too sweet for my taste, so I told Annie and she brought me some cream on the side with extra ice cubes and I thinned out the Thai Iced Tea so it felt like I actually had the equivalent of two drinks and it made me feel like I really stretched my money = the food and everything was worth the high pricetag. Bangkok Garden has been around forever, and occupied a historic building on Elm Street. Inside, the decor is 80's-style but fantastic. The food is similarly dated unfortunately. The lunch buffet is what everyone gets, but for $24 I would have hoped for something more than typical food court-style food. It was fine, but nothing special. Newer Thai restaurants like Pai blow Bankgok Garden out of the water at similar prices. Minus points for refusing to split a lunch bill with work colleagues even though we all ordered the exact same thing. A bad policy for a restaurant open for lunch downtown. read more

They were very crispy but not too oily, and the top part of the wings were stuffed, so no bones to pick out. 2. The crab tom yum really didn't suit my taste. It was very sour and quite runny. The dumplings were super thin and I barely tasted the crab. Mains 1. The Red Curry Duck had very good curry flavor. It was quite spicy. The duck breasts were pretty tough to chew though. 2. The Thai garlic fish came with a surprisingly large piece of fish. It was made very crispy and had a very nice sauce. The only issue was it didn't come with any veggies, and eating a huge piece of fish with rice was a bit heavy. Dessert 1. The Thai tea panna cotta was very tasty and unique. 2. The mango sticky rice was unfortunately disappointing. There were only tiny sprinkles of diced mangoes. The mangoes were also the sour, hard type which didn't compliment the sticky rice. Came here during Toronto's Summerlicious! You could get lunch for $23 dollars with an appetizer, entree and dessert. However, I was hoping to have a better experience compared to the previous yelpers who have been here. But that was not the case... The service was poor and our waiter disregarded us several times. The food itself wasn't anything special, therefore I didn't bother taking pictures of anything. We like to come from their weekday buffet for $17.95 so we can try many of their dishes. The buffet offerings are similar each time we have visited. Buffet items: vegetarian Thai spring rolls, vegetarian crispy bites, chicken wings, glass noodle salad, mango & jicama salad, green leaf salad, vegetarian red curry, eggplant tofu, vegetarian pad thai, vegetarian anytime noodle, vegetarian stir-fry, sriracha chicken, spicy fish, yellow curry with chicken, green curry with pork, noodle bar - choose your noodle, protein, broth and toppings, sweet potato & banana fritters, cassava, fresh fruit, rambutan The food is perfectly spiced with a balance of spicy, salty, sour and sweet. I love spicy food but my wife prefers it on the milder side. The green curry is perfect for her, and some of the dishes are mildly spiced. This makes sense because not every one's palate is the same. I find it's much easier to add heat than take it away. The curries are very flavorful with the addition of Thai basil, kaffir lime leaves and coconut milk. I really enjoy the noodle bar, and usually order the rice noodle with fish, shrimp, beef balls and extra dried chili and coriander. One of my wife's favorite Thai desserts is mango with sticky rice. She makes it at home, but it can be time consuming and it's not a dessert you can eat a lot of. I called in advance and requested it for the buffet and the kitchen staff were very happy to oblige. We came here for lunch Buffet. They have one section for cold dishes: glass noodle salad, mango Jicama salad, fresh roll, chicken wings, Thai spring rolls. For the hot dish, they serve spicy fish option, Thai, and different types of curry such as with chicken. My favourite is the soup noodle station, you can select your own topping such as fish balls and other herbs, garlic, vinegar and the noodle between the rice noodle and egg noodle. When we first enter the place looked like they were empty, but they lead us to the back and it was quite full. The decor and interior was really nice. There were two floors and two servers per floor. For appetizers we ordered the calamari and the chicken spring rolls. The calamari was a bit soggy and the spring roll was decent. They came at a reasonable amount of time. Main course however took a very long time. It took us an hour,I've seen other ppl get their orders quicker than us. I ordered the shrimp pad Thai and my boyfriend ordered the goat Currey. Because of the delay the manager gave us shrimp cocktail s, however my bf does not eat shrimp. I thought it was nothing special. My order was alright, the portions are big and they did not skimp out on the shrimp. However I would say it's only slightly better than Thai express but definitely not worth the 1 hr wait nor the price. For the goat currey, the taste was just okay nothing special. My boyfriend did say the rice was hard, I took a bite and agreed. The rice was either old rice or it wasn't cooked properly. As for the dessert, they came at a reasonable manner, I got the cassava cake and the boyfriend got the white chocolate rice pudding. I tried both and thought it was mediocre, nothing special . For the mains, we ordered the Emerald Curry with Chicken and the grilled lemongrass chicken. The grilled lemongrass chicken was by far the best dish, perfectly seasoned and flavourful! For dessert, we tried the Coconut Crème Brûlée and Bangkok Coconut Cream which we're both really good. But the Bangkok Coconut Cream really takes the win. Came here for Winterlicious dinner last night and once again was extremely satisfied with the quality of the food, the service, and beautiful venue. Btw Bangkok Garden is one of the only Winterlicious restaurants with a fully vegan menu option. I started with the Tom Yum shrimp soup - 5/5 for taste! Omg I've had Tom Yum soups at a couple of other Thai places on Yonge street before and each time I left the broth untouched essentially because there was so MSG and tasted so artificial. I was very happy with the soup base here as it had a hint of coconut milk, which added creaminess and depth. My only complaint was how small it was! My friends also enjoyed their sausage and fried chicken appetizers. The vegan main, a red curry containing squash and soft tofu, was disappointingly small, but ohhh so very flavourful and creamy with the addition of coconut milk again. I was so jealous of my friends' Khao Soi, which had an abundance of chicken and veggies. Dessert was simple, but amazing. Order the vegan option even if you are not vegan as the rice crackers option was kind of underwhelming. The vegan sticky rice had bananas and black beans and was so aromatic and heavenly. Remember to top it generously with coconut milk... So frickin delicious. Overall my only disappointment was how small the portions were for Winterlicious and it makes you wonder whether paying $33 might have been a bit ridiculous. Entrée - curry pad Thai with vegetables. Uh.... this kind of reminded me of old socks. Very little flavour with lots of sodium. I picked at it until I ate all the tofu and veggies. The pad Thai used these glass noodles that are like, a dollar at any Chinese supermarket. Not a fan and did not finish. Dessert - I had this sticky rice thing and it came with this weird egg texture looking thing with the tiniest bit of coconut milk dripped on it. Unappetizing- I didn't want it after two bites. I took the boyfriend's dessert, some chilli chocolate mousse and it was really good! One of my favorite Thai restaurant in toronto. I've been visiting this restaurant for years. Ever since my high school days. I love the food here and the service is extremely friendly. The decor is really nice, the place is pretty dim and romantic. Good place for a date. Food here is pretty good. Their Tom yum soup is on point. It's not too sour and not too spicy. As for the dishes I usually order. I usually get the seafood friend rice. This dish is extremely delicious. There is plenty of seafood in the dish. The flavor is good. A friend of mine took me out to brunch today. Thanks suggested Bangkok restaurant. I used yo yo there about 25 years ago. Recently, on BlogTo I saw their menu. They were offering all you can eat menu for $24.00. The decor has not changed much. The owners are different now. I was really looking forward to the experience and the price looked pretty good. The menu was not what I had expected it to be. I was expecting a buffet with food. It waxed not. There was a preset menu, but it was rather limited. You could order as many items as you wanted. The menu suggested that you order no more than 4 items and than reorder. At the bottom of the menu, in small print there was a warning that you had to finish everything on the plates ordered or you would be charged a full price. We ordered only 3 items to see what the good was like. Red curry soup arrived in a very small dish. It looked inviting. Sadly, it did not measure up to my previous experience at the restaurant. It was rather watery and did not have all the required favours that one expected from this famous restaurant. Sadly, it was a great disappointment to me today. The food was not what I remembered it to be in the day before it changed hands. The menu pictures were very inviting. The actual food lacked the finesse that I remembered. I was expecting robust flavours that Thai cuisine is famous for. They were not there. The salt was MIA. The chillies were not prominent. We're I expected coconut cream I found coconut milk. The spicy fish was n-eatable, the batter was hard as a rock and not tasty. Maybe it was cooked long ago. I had to tell the waitress how bad it was. The batter is supposed to be light and tasty. Vegetable fried rice was light on taste as well as vegetables. Chicken wings were sub par. Even their famous spring rolls were just ok. The sweet duck sauce was house made and was just ok. I do not understand why people would leave a negative review. I have personally travelled to Thailand multiple times and love Thai food. This has to be the most authentic Thai food in Toronto. We devoured the food so quickly I forgot to take photos of them. The rainbow trout and the red curry sauce that comes with it is phenomenal. I personally think that the food here has the right amount of spice and flavour. (Although the Tom Yum can be more spicy) 10/10 would recommend. read more

We came here for a work function lunch, and it being my first time visiting Bangkok Garden, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious their food was. We had the buffet lunch, and although there isn't much variety as compared to most other buffets, it's one of the few buffets I've been to where every single dish was delicious and flavourful. The noodle bar is a great feature, but be warned, they don't hold back on the spice! Our servers were extremely attentive and kept our glasses full and whisked our empty plates away faster than I can notice - not an easy feat for a party of 30. The only two downsides: 1) the buffet empties out extremely quickly. From the moment I got there to my revisits for more food, all of the trays were pretty much empty. More than one occasion I scraped at the trays to get the last bit of pad thai or rice, which is disappointing because like I said, the dishes were all very well made and I would have liked the opportunity to try more. 2) we had some issues with the booking. Our original reservation somehow got cancelled, and it wasn't until one of us called a couple of days before to confirm, that we were informed that our reservation did not exist. They offered us a new reservation for 1:30pm (instead of the original 11:30am) and luckily most of us were able to make this new time. The manager was very apologetic upon our arrival and offered us a group discount for the trouble, which was very nice. Overall, it was a great dining experience and I look forward to returning for the lunch buffet. read more

As an old customer who used to come here a lot, I can say their all you can eat buffet is nothing close to the one before covid. Options are extremely limited. And I'm not sure if they changed their chefs, almost everything is tasteless. No more different kinds of curries, customizable noodle bar. They need more stuff too, there are only a few people on the floor. Many customers were waiting to be seated for a long time. The only few good points are the vibe, and $24 price for AYCE. Probably would only go again if I was going with company that insisted on going there ALLERGIES: be careful with your order for allergies. In spite of the rain last Friday, my inquisitive mind and insatiable appetite for Thai food insisted that I tried this place with all the conflicting reviews. AMBIENCE Upon entering you have an impression you left Toronto and went to an exclusive tropical hotel lounge. As the courteous staff guided me towards my reserved table, you can't ignore the captivating gesture of the minimal Thai art deco and the grandeur of the cozy space. The wooden chairs and granite tables harmonize with the huge bell-like lamps. A small pond with colourful coy fish located near the dining tables provide a sense of tranquillity. I have chosen to seat at a table with better vantage point, it's great to know that a small soft pillow is provided on the long couch. The mild and gentle background music sooths well with the elegant furnishings. It's particularly funny that the restrooms are located one level below. A patron needs to use the stairs and pass through all the doors. It's like playing in an elaborate labyrinth searching for a hidden treasure. Fortunately, there are visible directions to guide you. Looking at the bright side, this is a form of exercise to burn those calories. SERVICE Pass 12 noon the influx of patrons are increasing and noticed the following: 1) More patrons are forming a longer line on the buffet banquet 2) The buffet dishes are quickly diminishing which needs to be replenished 3) Most of the tables are left unattended and the used plates are not cleared since most of the staff are helping to replenish the food It's understandable that tables need to be cleared for the next patron, but the manner in which you clean makes a significant difference. It was both shocking and surprising that the waiters were cleaning the granite table besides me; quickly spraying and wiping with their white cloth. No patron wants any spray mist contaminating his or her food. Understandably, the waiters meant well and doing their job diligently, but this actually happened twice, one on my left side table and a few moments later, on my right side table...I was caught in between. It's an unfortunate and peevish encounter that no patron needs to endure. Just as suggestion, your waiters can be trained to be discreet and effective at the same time. Have them oppositely face the eating patron while clearing the other table. Their back is behind the person, so they won't contaminate the food with their cleaning spray. A personal thanks to Britwin Diaz, who promptly ensured that I received the replenished Thai Chili Seafood. Tip of the hat to Ali, he delivered a superb service on my table. Always ready to serve with a smile and enthusiatically answered all of my queries. FOOD (Please see the attached pictures) On the Buffet banquet, the tidy covered food warmers add more mystery on the dish. I started with Fresh Spring Rolls, Mango Salad and Thai fried Rolls. The Fresh Spring rolls almost looked like a simple California rolls, but it's actually bean sprouts, bean curd, red pepper, lettuce and parsley wrapped in soft and smooth paper rice. I relished the way the rice melts in you mouth while biting the crisp vegetables. I enjoyed the shredded firm mango mixed with parsley, red pepper, shallots and grind peanuts. The Fried rolls are crunchy yet not oily. I intentionally avoided the Thai sauces that goes with the appetizers; so as to taste its natural flavor. I reveled with the 3 Pagodas, the zucchinis and carrots are fresh and firm. It goes well with the mildly spicy coconut milk. Likewise, I enjoyed the Thai Omelette. The savory bean sprouts mixed with eggs are tasty and not salty. The Tamarind Beef deserves a special mention. The tender beef compliments with the roasted peanuts, potatoes, tamarind and coconut milk. I liked the Chili Seafood, a combination of the sauteed mixed vegetable with the mildly spiced tender shrimps. The Thai Street Noodle Bar is fully organized and tidy. I tried the chicken breast with, coriander, chives, garlic and roasted nuts poured over with chicken broth. A perfect warm soup for a rainy Friday. For the price of the Lunch Buffet, I have expectations that were not met: First of all, I have enjoyed other versions of Pad Thai in Asia, New York and Toronto. I was expecting more on what Bangkok Garden has to offer with this local staple food. It took me another plate just to determine what seems to be lacking. The noodles are a bit saggy; there are no sufficient eggs, and no bean sprouts (apparently finely cut cabbage was used as a substitute). Also, it taste less tangy and has less spice. Second, it's unfortunate and surprising that they are not serving any fish or squid on that day. Third, the Thai Noodle is too dry and not tasty at all. I have just tried their Lunch Buffet and fair enough to give them a benefit of the doubt. This is a decent restaurant with some good food and modern dimly lit decor. It's a short walk from Eaton Centre so it's a good option for dinner after shopping. This review is for the Winterlicious menu. We had the Thai calamari and coconut mussel soup for appetizers. The portions are quite small and the calamari was crispy if a bit on the greasy side. It was good but the coconut soup was better. The soup was creamy with a hint of sourness. It was satisfying. The sriracha bbq pork was disappointing. It barely tasted of either sriracha or barbeque. It was almost tasteless. The crispy fish with red curry was so good, however. I'm not usually one for spicy dishes but this was so good that I had to keep eating it, though my mouth was slightly burning. I'd go back to eat just that. The warm white chocolate rice pudding barely tasted of white chocolate. It's basically just rice pudding, and it was okay. The cassava cake was also forgettable. It came in three tiny cubes and it was drier than it should be. My mother makes this cake and it was far from my standards. Ah well, I still really enjoyed the fish. read more
