If you're craving authentic Thai cuisine and a great dining experience, look no further than Isaan Der, particularly their Dundas West location. Chef Ko is the best, making you feel so welcomed and appreciated, as if in her own home. Her food and hospitality are nothing short of outstanding! I recently had the pleasure of introducing some foodie friends to Chef Ko and it didn't take them long to discover they were in for a very special evening with a very special person, not just a Chef. The first course was an appetizer platter that included Calamari, Chicken Satay, Papaya Salad, Shrimp Chips, Chef Ko's amazing Golden Bags, and more. Great start! Our amazing meal continued with Panang Fish, Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp, a Sizzling Seafood platter, Pad Thai with Soft Shell Crab, Pad See Ew with Shrimps, and Deep Fried Fish with Mango Salad. It was all absolutely delicious, with the Pad Thai and Deep Fried Fish, being my personal favourites. Diets and self control went out the door as we finished every morsel before being surprised by dessert. We had Thai Pudding made with Coconut Blossom Sugar, and Thai Pancakes. These were light and tasty. Great finish! Not to be forgotten, however, we had some great beverages with unique presentations - Tom Yum Spiced Margarita, Buri Ram, and Bangkok Lychee Fizz. Isaan Der has been recognized with a Thai Select Classic Award, presented to Thai restaurants that achieve a high level of excellence and authenticity, while offering good value for money. Isaan Der is all of that and more. Check them out!

In the heart of Toronto's Junction neighbourhood, Isaan Der stands as a quiet testament to the profound art of Thai regional cuisine. My wife, herself Thai, and I had the distinct privilege of dining under the personal care of Chef Ko--an experience that transcended mere gastronomy. What distinguishes this establishment is not simply technique, but soul. Chef Ko presides over her kitchen with the gentle authority of one who understands that cooking is an act of generosity. Each dish arrives as an invitation to her homeland, carrying the unmistakable signatures of Eastern Thailand's culinary traditions--bold, unapologetic, and deeply nourishing. The authenticity here is not performative; it is inherent. One senses immediately that Chef Ko is not merely reproducing recipes but channelling a cultural inheritance. The warmth of Thai hospitality--that ineffable quality of making guests feel genuinely cared for--permeates every aspect of the experience, from the thoughtful pacing of courses to the evident pride with which each plate is presented. For those seeking a polished, homogenized version of Thai cuisine, look elsewhere. Isaan Der offers something far more valuable: an honest expression of regional tradition, shepherded by a chef whose personal connection to her craft is both evident and affecting. In preserving this culinary heritage on Canadian soil, Chef Ko offers not just a meal, but a meaningful cultural bridge.

This is my first time visiting Isaan Der, and honestly, I think I should've tried their food sooner. It was such authentic flavour and good quality food (one of our group was Thai, so she confirmed the authenticity haha) It was a group of friends, so we ordered several items to share. Hard to pick the best dish as everything was so delicious! My favourite of that night was PLA TOD (marinated deep fried Basa fish filet) limited 10 dishes(?) per day (forgot exactly how many dishes - give it a try if it's available!) We had a chance to speak with chef Ko, who is the winner of Thai Select (heard it's like Michelin star in Thai), which made our experience even more pleasant. She was so sweet and friendly! I'll definitely be back :)

By far one of the top Thai places in Toronto. Top quality ingredients (like fresh noodles) and everything is prepare with great care. It's not overly presented just good food. It's a very small place but super busy with takeout and delivery. You must visit an isaan derr location. You won't be disappointed. What we had: Isaan Platter (spring rolls, chicken satay, golden bags, calamari, shrimp chips, papaya salad and sticky rice) Soft Shell Crab fresh noodles pad thai Lamb Shank Massaman Curry 9 Duck Red Curry Pad Si Ew (Chicken) Three flavours fish Mango Sticky Rice Cantaloupe Tapioca

Isaan Der has multiple locations around the GTA, but the Junction location is my favourite spot for Thai cuisine in the neighbourhood. The atmosphere here is cozy with their warm color scheme and lighting, and the staff here is super friendly. Like all restaurants, there may be an occasional off day, but 9/10 times the food here does the job in satisfying my Thai cravings with well prepared, and beautifully presented dishes. They have an extensive menu of appetizers, soups, noodles, curries, and seafood dishes offering something just about every palate. Because several items on the menu has caught my attention, I've been making an effort to try something new with each visit, and have not yet been disappointed. The restaurant can get pretty busy during weekend dinner hours, but most of the time you can walk in without a reservation. The restaurant is also not wheelchair accessible.

Absolutely incredible experience! From the moment we walked in, you could tell this place was something special. The owner went above and beyond--taking the time to walk us through the menu, explain different dishes, and offer thoughtful recommendations based on what we liked. It made the whole experience feel personal and elevated. And I have to give a huge shoutout to our server, Earth--truly exceptional. Attentive, friendly, and so knowledgeable, they made sure everything was perfect without ever being overbearing. The food was outstanding across the board--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the care and authenticity in every dish. This wasn't just dinner, it was an experience. Can't wait to come back

Family owned and operated, this restaurant serves amazing Thai cuisine! Clean and casual atmosphere with super friendly family members that make you feel part of their own family. The appetizers and main courses we ordered were expertly and freshly prepared. We started with Spring Rolls which were crispy outside and filled with fresh lettuce, cucumber, carrots, and cilantro - it felt as if they picked it out of the garden. The house made peanut sauce is addictive - so much so that we took some home. The tender, juicy Chicken Satay with peanut sauce was just as wonderful. Our mains of house made Isaan Der and Pad Se Ew noodles were the best we've ever had! All the sauces on the noodle dishes perfectly complimented the noodles. My husband opted for a soup main (Tom Yum) which was just as delicious. The medium spice levels we requested on our meals were perfect - just the right amount of heat with a little kick. It doesn't matter what you order here - it'll all be fresh, expertly prepared and addictive enough you'll want to come back for more. Highly recommend a visit asap!

Came here for dinner with colleague and had a taste for my favorite Thai cuisine. This place did not disappoint from the ambience, staff wear traditional Thai clothes, accommodating and friendly. The food was delicious. Started off with the spring rolls shrimp Pai se we, cashew chicken and chicken red curry with generous portions. The Thai iced tea was good not too sweet! I am a fan!

Dined in on a Monday night and it was relatively quiet. Service was fast, as we were seated immediately and the food arrived shortly after ordering. We had the Beef Khao Soi (one of our favourites for comparing between Thai restaurants) and the Lamb Shank Massaman Curry. Both dishes were packed with flavours and came at decent-sized portions. The Khao Soi noodles were more al dente, but became softer (more to my liking) as it sat in the curry broth. The beef chunks were extremely tender and had just the right amount of fat. The lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone and paired with a sweet and sour curry (courtesy of the tamarind) that gave off a fragrant peanut flavour. This was served with a side of rice. I also had a Thai Iced Tea, which was brewed in different spices (delicious) reminiscent of Fall. All in all, one of the best Thai meals I've had in the city!

The food was good. My favourite was the basil fried rice and Khao Soa. Khao Soa could have been better. The sauce was just too thin for my liking. We got the green curry and Massaman curry, and both the curries were good. The only complaint I have is that they kept the main door open, which made the restaurant very humid and hot. Overall not a bad experience

Isaan Der is actually opened Mondays! I had to bring my friend here because I found their fish curry was so so good! I got their fish panang curry again (thai spicy) and found it had a small kick but not very spicy at all. It was so so flavourful and came out piping hot. There was a good amount of tender fish as well. Came with a good amount of rice as well. My friend got their beef khao soi and she enjoyed it. I had a small tasting of it and it tasted like beef jerky. Service was great.

The interior of the restaurant was nicely designed and very aesthetically pleasing. We came on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. There was only 1 other table but a lot of take out orders coming in so our order did take a bit of time to come out. My friend and I got the Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee. It was very flavourful but one thing I would've liked would've been being able to adjust the sugar and sweetness level. As I am someone that doesn't enjoy the drink when it's too sweet. We decided to try an appetizer we haven't before and it was the thong pong grob. It was very unique and nothing like I have tried before, it tasted fresh with the veggies and delicious with the minced chicken. The soft shell crab fresh pad that was my favourite, it was a unique twist to my usual order of pad Thai. The flavours were all there and the soft shell crab was fried to perfection. Flavourful and crunchy. Panang curry is my favourite and they did such a great job with this dish. It was so tasty I could drink the curry broth itself straight. This is now one of my favourite Thai places and I will definitely be back!

Incredibly authentic Thai food- felt like I was back in Thailand with the fresh ingredients and perfectly complex flavour profiles. The basa fish was cooked perfectly and the portion was HUGE! We also had the spring rolls, grilled ribs, papaya salad, pad see ew (we ordered the fresh chili peppers on the side so we could control how spicy it was) and don't forget to order the mango sticky rice which was delectable!! Can't wait to come back.

The tapioca dumplings are unlike anything I've tasted before. They serve it with a side of lettuce, mint and peanuts. I liked the dumplings better without the sides they served! The lettuce and other add ons dim the flavors of the dumplings. So I prefer just eating the dumplings straight on. The Messemen curry was so flavorful and the beef was so tender! I'm a big fan. If you're a fan of Thai curries then you'll definitely like this! The Mango purple sticky rice dessert was also really tasty! It had a tasty coconut sorbet and it all went really well together. Service was good, food came out quickly, vibes were good. No complaints here!

Unfortunately, the day took an unexpected turn when I had to go to the hospital, and for a while I thought I wouldn't make it at all. As a testament to both the kindness of my friends and the exceptional staff at Lao Lao, they were able to accommodate us even though I arrived nearly two hours late on a busy Saturday evening. Originally, our table was only reserved until 8:00 p.m.--the exact time I finally arrived. Thankfully, with the help of our incredible server, Savanna N., everything worked out. Her professionalism, warmth, and willingness to help truly made the evening possible. More than anything, I hoped the wait would be worthwhile for my friends, who were visiting for the first time. I'm happy to say they absolutely loved it--especially the outstanding hospitality and customer service. A huge thank you to Savanna and the entire team for making us feel so welcome. As for the food, every dish was delicious. Nothing disappointed. The papaya salad was such a hit that we ordered it twice. The Beef Massaman Curry, Crispy Lao Spiced Chips, Banana Leaf Steamed Fish, and the seasonal Vermicelli Noodle in Chicken Coconut Red Curry were all exceptional. Although it had been about a year since my last visit, I was delighted to see that Lao Lao remains consistently excellent in its food, quality, and service. Bravo!

Food (4.5/5) - nice menu with lots of variety and overall good food quality. - Khao Neow Gaeng - this is one of their signature dishes and was fantastic! Stir fried pineapple curry with coconut curry sticky rice. What a great mix of items with great flavour, served in a half pineapple. - Khao Soi - a nice flavourful mix with a tasty curry broth. - Moo Tod - fried pork belly served with a lime sauce. Service (4.25/5) - this place gets busy but they are fairly well staffed and keep an eye on the tables to make sure people are moving through quickly. Maybe can appear a bit standoffish for that reason but not rude at all. Atmosphere (4.25/5) - it has two levels for dining and also a small patio out front. Not as elaborate or upscale an interior as Pai but functional. Overall (4.4/5) - A definite repeat to try some of the other dishes. Be aware that it can get very busy so book with reservations.
