I've dined here a couple of times and got takeout once. This a great place to bring family as there is something for everyone. Food: I really enjoy the dishes here. I will say I find the food not as flavourful when you ask for mild as the spice-level. I find medium and up to taste better. My most favorite dishes are the lamb shank massaman, pad Kee Mao, pad si ew, and Isaan tom yum pad Thai. There is still so much more I haven't got a chance to try yet. Food Started with satay chicken skewers with a side of peanut sauce. Delicious and a great way to start. Red curry. We ordered this with beef and it comes with squash and red peppers. The curry has a nice coconut flavor and we ordered this mild. The mild spice level was just right for us. I broke out into a tiny sweat at the end. It was delicious and highly recommend their curry. We ordered the jasmine matcha drink. It's a surprise of nice flavors and goes down good nicely after the curry. We finished dinner with the cantaloupe, mango tapioca. The bowl is quite large and again it's delicious. This was a nice dinner Service Service is prompt and courteous. Food came out hot. This is my first time visiting Isaan Der, and honestly, I think I should've tried their food sooner. It was such authentic flavour and good quality food (one of our group was Thai, so she confirmed the authenticity haha) It was a group of friends, so we ordered several items to share. Hard to pick the best dish as everything was so delicious! My favourite of that night was PLA TOD (marinated deep fried Basa fish filet) limited 10 dishes(?) per day (forgot exactly how many dishes - give it a try if it's available!) We had a chance to speak with chef Ko, who is the winner of Thai Select (heard it's like Michelin star in Thai), which made our experience even more pleasant. She was so sweet and friendly! Isaan Der has multiple locations around the GTA, but the Junction location is my favourite spot for Thai cuisine in the neighbourhood. The atmosphere here is cozy with their warm color scheme and lighting, and the staff here is super friendly. Like all restaurants, there may be an occasional off day, but 9/10 times the food here does the job in satisfying my Thai cravings with well prepared, and beautifully presented dishes. They have an extensive menu of appetizers, soups, noodles, curries, and seafood dishes offering something just about every palate. Because several items on the menu has caught my attention, I've been making an effort to try something new with each visit, and have not yet been disappointed. Family owned and operated, this restaurant serves amazing Thai cuisine! Clean and casual atmosphere with super friendly family members that make you feel part of their own family. The appetizers and main courses we ordered were expertly and freshly prepared. We started with Spring Rolls which were crispy outside and filled with fresh lettuce, cucumber, carrots, and cilantro - it felt as if they picked it out of the garden. The house made peanut sauce is addictive - so much so that we took some home. The tender, juicy Chicken Satay with peanut sauce was just as wonderful. Our mains of house made Isaan Der and Pad Se Ew noodles were the best we've ever had! All the sauces on the noodle dishes perfectly complimented the noodles. Dined in on a Monday night and it was relatively quiet. Service was fast, as we were seated immediately and the food arrived shortly after ordering. We had the Beef Khao Soi (one of our favourites for comparing between Thai restaurants) and the Lamb Shank Massaman Curry. Both dishes were packed with flavours and came at decent-sized portions. The Khao Soi noodles were more al dente, but became softer (more to my liking) as it sat in the curry broth. The beef chunks were extremely tender and had just the right amount of fat. The lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone and paired with a sweet and sour curry (courtesy of the tamarind) that gave off a fragrant peanut flavour. This was served with a side of rice. I also had a Thai Iced Tea, which was brewed in different spices (delicious) reminiscent of Fall. All in all, one of the best Thai meals I've had in the city! read more

If judging a book by its cover was a restaurant it'd be this place. Me and my bf came in super friendly, excited and patient. We looked at the menu ahead so we already knew what we wanted. The waiter who welcomed us in let us choose where to sit as it was empty and we CHOSE to sit the furthest AWAY from the door just cause it was cold and better lit. The food was meh as it was so overpriced for an average bare minimum Thai place (we got one appetizer, one main dish -green curry, and one dessert) and the order came out to about $65. I was disappointed to overhear our waiter talk with the other waiters in the back accusing us of dining and dashing. Comments heard about threatening to call the police etc. NOT an enjoying experience feeling degraded and judged (bc we are young and it wasn't planned to go out so we were just in sweats) for mid food. If you're looking for Thai food that is overpriced, gentrified, white washed and filled with high ego, go here at this specific location. We got the appetizer for 2, portions were sad and disrespectful ($25 for portions not even enough for one person) The green curry which was watery, had a terrible ratio of ingredients to sauce. And an even worse ratio for RICE?! There was barely enough for the dish to the point you'll spend ur time worrying about to rationing it rather than actually just enjoying it. The mango sago I'm meh at, I'm not here to over exaggerate or lie I will always tell it how it is. It was only $8 so I don't mind but the fact you think it's okay to give only 4 cubes of mango and then a whole cup of coconut cream is just gross. If I cared enough to remember the name of the waiters I'd have included it but I already forgot by now. Never coming back again and will make sure to surely spread the word about this place. Isaan Der is actually opened Mondays! I had to bring my friend here because I found their fish curry was so so good! I got their fish panang curry again (thai spicy) and found it had a small kick but not very spicy at all. It was so so flavourful and came out piping hot. There was a good amount of tender fish as well. Came with a good amount of rice as well. My friend got their beef khao soi and she enjoyed it. I had a small tasting of it and it tasted like beef jerky. Service was great. read more

The interior of the restaurant was nicely designed and very aesthetically pleasing. We came on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. There was only 1 other table but a lot of take out orders coming in so our order did take a bit of time to come out. My friend and I got the Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee. It was very flavourful but one thing I would've liked would've been being able to adjust the sugar and sweetness level. As I am someone that doesn't enjoy the drink when it's too sweet. We decided to try an appetizer we haven't before and it was the thong pong grob. It was very unique and nothing like I have tried before, it tasted fresh with the veggies and delicious with the minced chicken. The soft shell crab fresh pad that was my favourite, it was a unique twist to my usual order of pad Thai. The flavours were all there and the soft shell crab was fried to perfection. Flavourful and crunchy. Panang curry is my favourite and they did such a great job with this dish. It was so tasty I could drink the curry broth itself straight. I ordered some dishes thru Ubereats. Picked here because it was highly rated but it was a disappointment. Ordered the chicken pad Thai and they claimed it's fresh noodle which I find it being mushy but there was too much veggies. Not only that none of the veggies was included in the description: broccolis, cauliflowers, carrots and snow peas which I'm allergic to. Definitely not a traditional pad Thai (lack in flavours) for $17, it wasn't worth it. The spring roll was made with too much shiitake mushroom, which over powers everything. We were able to order online through their new ordering platform. After my order was placed, I received an email confirmation with the estimated time that my order would be ready. When I popped in, my order was packaged and ready to go at a table at the front of the restaurant. An employee helped me find my order amongst a bunch of other take-out orders and I was on my way. The bag was surprisingly hefty for 2 orders of pad thai and an appetizer. We would discover that this was because of the huge portion sizes! My chicken pad thai would end up feeding me over 3 meals (that dinner, next day lunch...the next next day lunch). Part of it might have been that it was a little bit greasy for me. Even after trying to wash it down with tea it felt like it was coating my insides. Stumbled upon this place for some early dinner! It's a cozy little place with good decor and nice service. They have good cocktails but have a limited menu. I think the drinks were a little too strong for me. They're speciality were the Golden bags which was very different and nice. It is a vegetarian option and it's totally worth a try. The portion size was huge! For mains, I ordered the pad Thai which was very average and that's why I haven't given that last star. It was nothing special! Isaan Der specializes in traditional dishes from the North-Eastern region of Isaan which borders Laos and Cambodia. The word "Der" is like our Canadian word for "Eh" which I thought was really cool! This place brings back childhood memories of dishes that I had a when I was younger. They make Som dam (papaya salad) in different ways. The version I grew up with has tomatoes, long yard beans, fermented crab, amongst other ingredients and is quite spicy and very flavourful with lots of umami and is great to pair up with sticky rice and to sop up the juices! This place has limited amounts of pretty Golden bags that are stuffed with water chestnuts, carrots and mushrooms and served with chili sauce and are very instagram worthy apps. I saw a customer place it on his palm to photograph! The decor is very authentic to the Thai culture with Rich purple and gold's and they even have Thai words written on the walls. Dishes I enjoyed are the Golden Purse, shrimp rolls, fresh rolls with their amazing peanut sauce that I could just eat all day, som dam, fish curry which contain baby eggplants which I've never had before which was really interesting to try! I also loved their fried fish dish. One dish that is not on the menu is their hang over soup which is great for . .... You guessed it! A hangover! It's actually called Kuay Jup Yuan and it really hits the spot! My mom used to make this growing up but she couldn't find the right noodles for it so she always used udon noodles. I much prefer the thinner noodles in this dish, it's so comforting. This place also supports local breweries. They sell "Highpark Brewery" which has great tasting beers. Instead of usual 5-6 shrimps I got only 3 with lots of veggies that usually are not served with this. I had been told about this place for some time. I kept thinking, you know what... it can't live up to the hype. And then I ordered from it, and - well, it didn't live up to the hype, but it was very good! The Pad Thai was great, the curry was superb (one of my favourites I've had from anywhere), and the stir fried beef noodles were a delight. The one thing to be aware of is that the temperature ratings seem to be geared towards the average person - so if you pick medium, and you like spice, you're likely to be unimpressed. We just celebrated the 5th anniversary of our first date tonight at this restaurant. We found it on Google and Yelp. We loved the Fish Panang Curry, which was highly recommended by a staff member (son). We also tried the Lamb Shank Massaman Curry. We would give the Fish Panang Curry 7 out of 5 stars and the Lamb 6 out of 5 stars. Thai Ice tea was also very good. The restaurant was clean and neat. The staff (mother and son) were very busy with many take-out orders, but they remained tentative, polite, respectful, informative, helpful, cheerful, and kind. They brought us a complimentary sweet coconut dessert at the end of the meal to celebrate our anniversary. We are quite picky eaters, but Issan Der exceeded our expectations.
