I used to frequent this restaurant when I lived in the area but have not been back for years. My husband was craving roti and they happened to be one of the few places that had it. Our order consisted of roti with curry (2 orders), BBQ pork with rice, chicken pad thai, one thai iced tea and one thai Iced coffee. The order came to $59 and some change. The pricing was average and the portion sizes were good. My husband ate both orders of roti on his own. It wasn't the best he has had, but definitely fulfilled his craving. The BBQ plate came with a rice and salad that could easily be shared by two. I think the chicken would have been a better choice but I also had chicken pad thai. The pad thai had good flavors but the noodles were all stuck together. My favorite part was the drinks. They are a good size and have a lot of flavor. The thai coffee has just the right amount of sweetness with a good hint of cardamom. I haven't found another place I like better for this drink. I will definitely make a trip out to grab more drinks and roti. read more

Our stomachs were crying out "thai food, thai food please" and so we started debating what to do. Go to the absolute closest place, drive literally an additional 2 minutes in the opposite direction to a place with less ambiance but better taste and a tad cheaper too, or try something entirely new? We voted for entirely new and chose Sala Thai. Sala is located in a small shopping center environment but it isn't hard to get to as it's right off a main thoroughfare. When we entered, we were greeted right away, and given menus when we stated we wanted to order to-go. The waiting section is very small, but the remainder of the restaurant is more spacious and fairly well lit. There are lots of cultural touches that catch the eye. I don't know if this is a regular occurrence, being a first-timer, but it was interesting to note live saxophone music was being performed to a recorded soundtrack background; it was kinda nice if a tad bit loud. Once our orders were taken, the food came out in less than the quoted time so that was very nice. Everything was packed well and the time we were there was a good experience. The man who greeted us and gave us menus, and the woman who took our order and gave it to us were both pleasant and nice. There are two reasons that I don't rate higher. One - the pricing in-restaurant does not match what was on their menu. Frankly if the website had been correct, we probably would have gone to one of our closer regular spots. Everything on the website that we ended up ordering was ~$2 cheaper than reality with the exception of the iced tea (which was still more expensive but not a whole $2). It made a $12 difference in our bill. While not the end of the world, this was disappointing and someone needs to do some updating. Two - flavors were soft. None of what we ordered was "bad" or the like, but everything did taste (to us) like whatever the flavor was supposed to be, add a little more and BOOM! Again, when you've driven past two known spots to go considerably further, and then pay more than expected, you're gonna note if it doesn't taste spot-on. How big of an issue are these things? Again, not the end of the world but they are our experience. Of worthy note are 1) more than half the tables were occupied when we visited, 2) there was a decent flow of people picking up to-go food. So you won't be shattered eating here, most likely you'll be satisfied if not better (based on observing 1 and 2 above; there's actually a 3) also - they had a help wanted sign in the window so they aren't suffering business-wise). Just know that for now, everything the website prices out is not correct, and you may be spicing your choices up on your own a bit to get some flavor going. read more

Best potstickers I have ever had. There are two sauces drizzled on the top with chopped scallions. They were a step above any regular potsticker. TRYTHEM. You won't be disappointed. I had garlic chicken. It was moist, well cooked but also crispy. It wasn't spicy and didn't have huge garlic flavor but it was good. My friend had pad se wei? It was great, I had a bite. Then we got sticky rice pudding with mango. It was soo good. The rice was sticky and sweet but also had little crunch to it. Added good texture with creamy rice. The perfectly sliced thin mango pieces were so refreshing with the pudding. It was great. If you have a sweet tooth, try it for sure. Overall this place checked all the boxes. The sauces on most of their are too sweet! We were a large group and ordered a variety of dishes and the consensus was all the sauces were on the sweet side. Service is attentive. Servers, however, seemed rushed as it was the lunch hour rush. The menu is varied and the dishes were presented in a pleasing manner. Initially I was only going to give 4 stars, but then I thought about the stellar service we received. We could smell the food as we walked through the door, and I knew we were in for a treat. Immediately we saw a photo of the Sala potstickers and we both were like "we getting those" We were seated immediately, and then someone came by and dropped of water (the fifth star is for this alone). We ordered the Sala potstickers to start, the duck noodle soup, and bbq chicken. Those potstickers are to die for. Nice and crisp with the right amount of sauce with a hint of spice. DELICIOUS! The soup was nice and flavorful.l and the duck was tender. The bbq chicken did not disappoint. I like how the chicken was served on a bed of lettuce with the rice on the side. The Crab Fried Rice was absolutely worth the million miles I drove to get there, I ended up ordering a few other things since I was there and the pictures looked like they might be delicious. Food was delicious! The duck was so tender and melts in your mouth! At first the peanuts on the pad thai looked overwhelming, but it added the perfect crunch. The Roti appetizer was soft and fluffy. Just ordered from here today some Pad thai noodles with Shrimp (no peanuts) only one small complaint was I had asked for very mild And when I served the noodles to my kids it was way too spicy. I had ordered a Appetizer Combo and was very impressed at how big the calamari were (good size). never had I tried the sticky rice Mango dessert and have to say it was a perfect dessert to balance the sweet and salty. Overall the portion sizes were just right and also the prices were very reasonable. They are currently offering 10% discount if you pay CASH $. The lady that took my order was very friendly and made sure she got the order correct. Who would have imagined a gem of a Thai restaurant right in Richmond along a small strip by a gas station? I do remember have a delicious meal at Sala Thai in Fremont (not sure if the same owner), this branch did not disappoint as well. Case in point: they properly give heat to the dishes if requested. Me and my friend requested hot, I even request "bring me hell ~ hot" and Sala Thai did not disappoint. My nasal passages were active as we dig in to our Pad Thai, Panag Curry, and some other good seafood dish. The dishes were delicious and properly flavored. Service was quick and the ambiance was cozy. This could be a potential grub stop after a days work of pistol club match nearby.
