We were delightfully surprised with this great little Thai spot. It's small but ambience and motif is on point. We started with crab rangoon and the dipping sauce was chef's kiss! By far one of the best in the valley. My dish was the rice noodles with beef and veggies- pure heaven. Aromatic and savory it did not disappoint! we were craving Thai food but wanted to try a new spot than our usual to have as a back up in case our regular spot was closed lol. Our friend recommended Sala as it's HIS number one spot so figured let's give this a shot and we are so glad we did. We usually get drunken noodle/pad Thai as one of our dishes we try at a new spot to gauge how good one of these basic dishes are and boy did they deliver on fresh tasting and not super oil heavy noodles. We also ordered he basil rice and it was also fresh with the zest of lemongrass and basil. My only comment on what could improve are portion sizes. We did feel like the portions were not that great especially for the price. But overall we would return because the food was tasty! Ambiance was pretty straight forward it was a small spot but it was clean and bright. We ordered takeout so unsure of the service but ordering and checkout was smooth. read more

As a lover of quality Thai food this place is on the top of my list! Super cute and cozy on the inside and incredible portion sizes. So far I've been back twice this week and my favorites are the khao soi and a special they have currently Tom yum chicken pasta. Oof. I was really excited to find they had a Tempe location, as I love the Sala Thai in Phoenix, but this was not good. Maybe an off day. I ordered online and arrived to the restaurant to see it packed with a party. A literal party with a table of buffet food in the middle. They were having a good time! I had to weave through people to get to the counter to pickup my food. No problem - it was nice to see everyone having a good time! - but maybe this is why my food wasn't great. The beef salad is one of my favorite dishes in general and the one at the Phoenix location is so good! This one is inedible. I like some char on my meat, but each of the pieces of this are very burnt on one side, and it's all very tough. It didn't taste like it had any lime or fish sauce. Just burnt, bitter, gristly meat. The Pad Kee Mao was OK, nothing standout. It's a little wetter than my preference but that's fine. I asked for no green peppers and it had green peppers. It also has bean sprouts, which I don't care for and aren't listed on the menu. It came with a lemon, which I've never seen before. I tried some lemon on both dishes and did not find it an improvement. read more

Sorta shocked to be writing this review based on the high ratings.... I've been eating Thai food for more than half my life and it's pretty hard to screw up honestly. But I will say, this fell short... Got a noodle dish, fried rice, veg&tofu dish, and fresh rolls. While the fresh rolls were decent and tofu and veg(although overcooked) were ok too, the standard Thai items of fried rice and noodles fell so terribly flat. The noodles seemed greasy(which is why I generally would choose Thai over Chinese-less grease!). Secondarily, and honestly most egregious was that the fried rice was so over cooked, and almost had a mush to it(didn't even seem fried). Such a bummer. I guess there isn't much more to say, but maybe give it a pass if you love high quality Thai! read more

This is a small place in a strip mall. Stopped in for dinner. Friendly staff said I can sit anywhere and provided a menu. I order the chicken satay and the red curry with chicken. The chicken satay was excellent however, the peanut sauce is on the watery side and not really enough for all the satay. I'm sure they would have given me more had I asked. I asked for a level 2 spice for the red curry and it was not spicy at all. It did taste very good but several of the ingredients listed on the menu were not in the curry. Not string beans or bamboo shoots. I mentioned to the waiter and he offered to bring me out a side. He also took responsibility for the mistake but not sure it was his fault unless he told the kitchen to leave all that out or I was given someone else's order. Sala Thai Tempe is easily the trendiest Thai place in the city -- and the delicious food, excellent service, and great atmosphere make it a well-rounded place to eat. I usually start by describing the food, but I was SO impressed by their staff. Sala Thai isn't a large restaurant by any means, and yet they allowed us to reserve a table for 11. A wait was to be expected, but our orders came out in a good cadence -- all correct, beautifully presented, and in order. The staff was gracious and efficient, quickly bringing extra utensils, waters, and boxes as needed. The food was wonderful, too. The Thai chicken and rice was moist despite the pretty dark and crispy exterior, and the sauce complimented it well. The khao soi was very flavorful -- though I will warn that Sala Thai is spicier than most local Thai restaurants. A 3/5 is probably what you'd expect to be hot, rather than medium, at other spots. The restaurant has the cutest designs and an adorable Polaroid camera for you to add to the photo wall, too. All the nice little touches were so lovely! read more

This has been our go to thai spot, but Ive noticed inconsistencies. The food portion changes or quality of food can vary on the visit. Last night we had a big sized take out order, 2 pad thai's, 1 drunken noodle, chicken satay, papaya salad, wings and mango sticky rice. The food was good but I noticed the papaya salad portion was a bit smaller than the past few times Ive ordered. The most disappointing part of the meal was the mango sticky rice. They served us a rotting mango. It was disappointing to have been a returning customer to be served that quality of food. We found this place since it was near us and tried it for dinner on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. It wasn't busy but also made sense because of Thanksgiving the next day. The decor looked fine and clean to me. The menu had a lot of food that sounded good and we ordered a lot. We ordered the Spicy Basil Leaves with Fried Eggs and chicken at a spice level of 2 ($14), the Larb Salad ($14), the Yumm Mama ($12), the Spicy Ladyboy Wings ($10), and a large white rice ($5). The food took a while to come out but I thought it was worth the wait. The Spicy Basil Leaves with Fried Eggs and chicken was delicious! Spice level 2 was spicy but didn't make me grab water. The Larb Salad was good, the Yumm Mama was tasty, and the Spicy Ladyboy Wings were okay. I would recommend the Spicy Basil Leaves with Fried Eggs as that was flavourful to me. Cute decor and quiet ambiance. After you enter you must order at the counter, so check the menu before heading out there. We ordered the Coconut milk soup that was extremely sour but had good flavor overall ( Also came with big pieces of ginger that were impossible to chew), the yellow curry was very spicy even when we order q level 3 ( a little smokier that other Thai places but good overall), and our favorite dish was the red bbq pork. Not sure how I never heard of this restaurant but best decision having dinner here because I found my new favorite Thai place! How it works is you'll order and pay at the counter and they'll bring the food out to you. Our food came out at a decent wait time. The restaurant is small and intimate. I normally get pad thai or curry, but they have Thai street food here! I had to try the Gai Tod Na Khao (Thai fried chicken and rice). This meal reminds me of Vietnamese com ga. Full of flavor with the ginger chili fish sauce and it was definitely spicy. The chicken is breaded so lightly and it was very tender. The rice was disappointing and dry, but we also got another dish where the rice was not dry. Because the main dish was so good, I wasn't phased by the rice. The Chicken Satay appetizer was okay, needs to be more seasoned but the peanut sauce was great! Thai tea was normal, but pretty pricey for the size. SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS Sala Thai Street Eatery 1740 E Broadway Tempe, 85282 Companion and I were in the mood to have Thai food and this being relatively close we decided to give it a try. We arrived before the usual dinner hour and were the only ones in the restaurant. We were seated immediately with cushions for the person who sat on the bench side and comfortable chairs on the other side of the table. Our dinner began with an order of Crispy Garlic Chicken wings which were not only crispy but also delicious. They came with a dipping sauce that truly was mouth watering. We were off to a good start! I ordered Thai Tea to drink and my companion ordered Thai Coffee. The Thai Tea was perfection, but companion did not realize how strong the coffee would be and wasn't extremely happy about it, For my companion's main dish Phad Thai was ordered. It came at just the right heat level (#2) and was pronounced delicious. The portion size was considerable and could not be finished. I ordered Pad Kee Mow (Drunken Noodles) at a #5 spice level and was not disappointed in the least. Again, a rather substantial portion with excellent flavor. Dessert was Mango Sticky Rice, and like all the other dishes of the night, was delicious. The restaurant, while small, was tastefully appointed and clean. Service was good and reasonably fast. For those who have never had Thai Food, it can be ordered at various heat levels. If it gets too hot for you, the antidote is the Thai Tea which gets rid of the heat quite quickly! 4 stars for an excellent meal, and cleanliness. Pretty solid Thai food with vegetarian and vegan options, and legit Thai spicy options. I stopped in for dinner with a friend on a Thursday around 7pm. We got the only available table in this small, intimate place. We ordered: -Salad Rolls ($6) -- simple, fresh, driven by the fresh mint, and served with a nice peanut sauce. Simple, tasty. -Pad See Ew with tofu (made vegan by omitting the egg and fish sauce) ($15) -- extremely well-made, with the authentic wide rice noodles, broccoli, bok choy, carrot, and fried tofu, with a garlicky, spicy, soy sauce. At 3/5 spiciness, this packed a kick. -Yellow curry with soft tofu ($16) -- pretty solid, a bit watery but packs some good flavour, with a variety of veggies and soft tofu. I've been to the Sala Thai out in Phoenix, but it's really far from me. I'm so glad they opened up a Tempe spot! For people who have been to their other locations, the new Tempe location added a Street Food menu filled with unique items you'll see in on the streets of Thailand. This is the menu I ordered from and DANG, it did not disappoint! I ordered: - Yum MaMa (ramen salad): A mildly spicy, citrusy ramen salad (yes, ramen noodles!) topped with chicken, shrimp, shallots, and other goodies. This was my second favorite dish!! So refreshing and a brand new dish I've never tried anywhere else. - Khao Soi (curry noodles): Piping hot curry egg noodles with chicken, carrots, and served with a super aesthetic fried(?) egg noodle bundle. If you're into photographing your food, get this haha! - Kho Moo Dang (bbq red pork): A ruby-red bbq pork served with rice, a fried egg, and a spicy sauce on the side. I brought all my leftovers home and this was my husband's favorite! - Gai Tod (fried chicken): Saving this one for last because it's currently off-menu, but also because this was my favorite!! This was fried chicken that has a blended sauce packedddd with spicy, salty, and tangy flavors. I don't know what's in the sauce, but my mouth is watering still lol. I can't handle spicy food, and this definitely has a kick, but I couldn't stop eating this! So many amazing things to say about this restaurant, where do I even start? We were a larger group of 7 and was treated with a welcoming smile and great service. We all ordered at the counter and sat at the table they put together for us. Food came out pretty quickly, despite there being only 1 cook in the kitchen. My wife were looking for a place to eat after 11pm in Phoenix and I noticed Sala Thai Tempe was open until 1AM! The owners and employees are the friendliest people you'd ever meet!! My wife got the Spicy Basil Chicken and I got the BBQ Pork and we ended up switching because her food was a 2/5 spice level and it was too hot for her and I love spicy food! Both of our meals were absolutely fantastic 5/5 for flavor, spices, temperature, and everything in between! This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and cozy on the inside as well and a nice place for a date night that is elegant but not too fancy! Oh and it doesn't break the bank either!! If you know me, then you know how much I love my Thai food. I can eat Thai food every day and this Sala Thai location has me wishing I can have their food everyday. The restaurant is small and cozy with about five tables and there is only about 3 people working at a time. They make every dish to order so it is piping hot fresh every time. Service is standard and I think they purposely leave you alone so that you can enjoy your company and your meal. They are attentive when you need their service though. Prices are fair and they have some unique dishes that some other restaurants don't have. I love eating every Thai dish but I have to try the pad thai at every Thai restaurant I go to. If they can make a good pad Thai then they can be trusted to make other dishes too. The pad Thai here was insane. Bright flavors, hefty portion, and perfectly spiced. Talk about a super cute, cozy Thai restaurant that we picked for our first day visiting family in Phoenix. The decor is very colorful and calming and the booths by the wall give a super cozy feel to the whole place. We ordered a papaya salad, pad thai and green curry for 4 of us to share and I can definitely say I enjoyed the beautiful plating, garnishes, and dynamic flavor of all of the dishes. Everything was incredibly flavorful - umami and sweet where it needed to be, a perfect level of spice to what was offered. The service was quick and helpful.
