Also, the portions are HUGE-- prepare for leftovers! Came here for a family lunch to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday recently. We tried to variety of dishes and we were quite happy with all of them. Chicken satay was amazing, especially the dipping sauce. We also really liked the lettuce wrap and that's the meat had a little bit of heat in it. The mango salad was OK, it was not my favorite mainly because I found the sauce for the salad a bit too tangy. Pad Thai was delicious and quite similar to to authentic style. Also, really like the crispy beef panang curry, this was definitely a highlight! They also have dole whip here! Yes the same thing we get a Disney, they have pineapple and strawberry so I did a swirl. It's also dairy free for those who can't do milk! All in all amazing food and we had a great time! I've been numerous times to the Yonge location, but this is my first time trying the Queen location. Both locations are very similar. The menus are almost identical, seating is similar (although Yonge may be slightly larger). The service at the Queen location is definitely a lot slower (at least when I went). Food portions are large (each dish is around $16-$18). Spice level is variable (Queen location is spicier) - 3 'chilis' is a good number if you like spice. read more

I had already tried the Salad King near Yonge-Dundas and liked the food and service there, so I decided to give this location a shot. I had a good experience here, from the tasty food and efficient service to the comforting ambiance inside. I tried the Khao Soi with beef, which was a nice big portion size and had a very flavourful broth! Although I noticed it was a bit low on the beef and vegetables. The price was not bad, at $15.50 pre-tax. I asked about the student special and was told it was only between 2-5pm, which was a bummer since we were there at 1pm. Picked up their popular Islamic Noodles (with chicken, 3 chilis spice level) for lunch which was ready in a quick 10 minutes. The noodles were cooked pretty well (albeit no wok aromas/flavour) and the Penang curry was packed separately. There really wasn't much chicken at all and what was there was pretty dry pre-blanched tasting chicken. the curry sauce was tasty and aromatic though. also don't be intimidated by their spice levels here. the 3 chilis (described as "start mopping your brow") was super mild, comparable to a black pepper tingle but wasn't spicy at all for me. Decent Thai Food on Queen Street. Its not haute cuisine by any stretch, but cheap and cheerful Thai style food, similar to their original location on Yonge Street. The ambiance at the new spot is a bit more refined rather than the kinda Cafeteria style of the old location but the menu seems the same. Lots of options for Tom Yum Ghai and Pad Thuai plus various curries and rice dishes. Decent spot if you need a bite on Queen Street, where lots of the food can be hit or miss. Recommended. read more

Love the new location. Love the interior design. Much more modern and spacious than the Yonge location. I like how this place has more privacy seating than an open concept area. Two walls have colourful murals that are certainly eye catching. I love them! The menu hasn't changed much from pre-Covid which is nice, but they re-printed it and it looks better. The mango salad came with a mango purée which I loved!! My partner got the phud Thai and loved it to the very end. I got the green curry with beef and veggies. I was disappointed that it was not hot at all (in temperature) when we were their first customer for lunch. Less busy than the Yonge location. The rice was decent. I didn't bother complaining since I was already hungry. Overall, the food was good and I have been going to Salad King (original location) since it was across from Ryerson. Yay for a second location! This has always been a reliable place to get my Thai food fix. I haven't been disappointed by anything on their menu. Recently ordered their BOGO Golden curry and reserve the leftover sauce for another meal. We ordered extra eggplant for $3 and received a negligible amount of 2 or 3 tiny pieces in each box. I mean I don't mind paying for more, though it just seems less than expected. I'm not sure if it's because it's BOGO they split the extra portion into two or that's how much they give for each dish when you order "extra". I also recommend their Islamic noodles, which used to be in their secret menu but is currently prominently displayed in the takeout apps. I don't know what happened recently, but it looks like someone broke into their restaurant--shards of broken glass around the door the other day. Hope everything is okay! read more

I've been to their Yonge/Elm location and tbh was not really a fan of their food. I was craving for fried rice so I just ordered their Chicken Ball Fried Rice which is just meh. I also ordered the Sea Queen, breaded squid and not really fond of the spices that goes with it. They also forgot to give me the steamed rice that's included when you order the Sea Queen but couldn't be bothered to go back. Overall it was just an okay food (which I already knew). With other Thai restauarants in the vicinity and with the pandemic still going on, I'm just hoping they do well. read more

Salad King used to be my favourite thai place in Toronto. I was very happy to see that they opened a second location. I greatly enjoyed eating here. The food lived up to my memory of salad king. The service was very good. I ordered their "Thai Islamic Noodle". This is a dish on their "secret menu" It is probably one of the worst kept secrets in Toronto, but it still gives me a kick to order off the secret menu. It is a stir fry noodle with panang curry poured on top. There are youtube videos about it. The secret is about as well kept as In-N-Outs secret menu. I digress, I highly recommend Salad King. i have been eating at salad king (yonge/elm) since high school! so glad theyre finally expanding and had opened one up on queen st west. i came by here and ordered some of my usual favourites. crispy vegetable springroll (3/$5) - these have been consistently delicious for years! they have made them bigger, and the tangy dipping sauce is still as good as i rbr. tom yum soup w.mushrooms - one of the best tom yums ive had. i like that its not sweet. perfect balance of spicy and sour! cucumber salad - ive nvr noticed this dish before, i think its new? was refreshing and tasty. siam noodles w.vegetables - this dish was usually more creamier and the sauce was thicker. this time i had it it was a bit watery and the sauce didnt coat the noodles. nonetheless, the flavours were still good. battered shrimp w.fried rice - the rice was a bit too salty and it was very "chinese"-like...think chicken ball fried rice? we werent particularly impressed with this dish. i think id stick to my usual pad thai and curries, but it was overall still a very delicious lunch! service was stellar! our waitress was so polite and friendly. decor & ambiance was very nice. they have lovely thai artwork displayed around the restaurant. definitely still my top 5 thai places in the city! read more

Look, I'm no wimp when it comes to spicy food. I go out of my way to order the spiciest, hottest dishes I can find and I always enjoy them to some degree. Thai spicy? Bring it on! So when I decided to order some food from Salad King, I was excited to try one of their higher spice levels. I figured I'd play it a little safe and avoid the highest spice category, so I opted to try the 15 Chilis level when I placed my order. Big mistake. My dish, Phud Thai ("Rice noodles, carrot, tofu, green onion, bean sprout, egg, coriander, lime, & peanut in fish sauce & tamarind sauce"), was inedible. I ate a few bites and my mouth was on fire to a degree I've never experienced before. I mean, I love that Salad Kind went for it in terms of heat, but nobody could eat this. It's stupid and irresponsible. I put the container in the fridge and decided to see if a night in a cold fridge would make it more edible, and admittedly that did help but it also brings me to my biggest problem with this dish. It was entirely lacking in flavor! Once you look past the extreme, unreasonable heat, this concoction has absolutely no taste aside from salt. And if I needed evidence that something went awry somewhere along the line, I found it in an entire section that was just plain noodles. I wish I had taken a picture because it was insane. How did this even happen? I've eaten at Salad King's other location many times and always enjoyed my meal (and, it should be noted, I've ordered food at the 15 chilis level on a couple of occasions), so I have to think that the chef was having a bad night when he prepared my offensively bad meal. Always happy to see a new location of Salad King and just off Queen West. Next door to Marvellous by Fred. I used to go to Salad King owners' Linda restaurant in the Shops of Don Mills, but it has been closed for a while now. You can linger at this location, but food is quick service so it works if you are in a hurry. I asked the waiter if one of the dishes was just another name for my favourite Linda dish, the Islamic Noodles. He said no, but that dish is a secret menu item and I could order it! :) Rich Penang curry topped rice noodles with choice of protein and stir fried veggies, with customized spice levels according to their "chili scale". Took more than half of it home. A 4.5/5 for me. 3.5/5 for the pad Thai. Service 5/5. Will I return? Likely. read more

They claimed it as Thai restaurant but I don't think it's authentic, I came with 2 other coworkers who ordered the pad thai noodles who paid $4 to upgrade as a combo with drinks and appetizer. I ordered the noodle soup with a bit spicy, the broth is very plain. The only good thing is the waiter has a very good service. I have been eating Thai food for about 7-8 years now and I hate myself for not trying salad king earlier. As life returns back to normal and the hustle bustle of downtown returns, I decided to visit the queen st location. The ambiance is perfect for a casual dine in place, well lit and nicely spaced seating. Their menu is slightly different from other places so you won't see pad Thai or some other famous curries that are found in most famous Thai joints in the city, but what they do have, they cook it wonderfully. We tried the chicken wontons, Islamic noodles (still not on the menu but it's one of their famous items), and Thai basil noodles. What's great about this place is you can chose exactly how spicy you want your meal to be and it will be the same every time, because you literally pick the amount of chillies you want in your meal. The chilli sign besides item on menus denotes how many chillies there are going to be in your meal, and then you can pick up to 20 chillies to add on top. Islamic noodles are coconut curry based noodles so we added 10 chillies to it, it turned out perfect, best item on the menu that we have tried so far. My spice tolerance is pretty damn high so we decided to add 10 chillies to Thai basil as well, on top of 2 chilled that it already comes wit, and it turned out too spicy, lesson learned though. There are a lot of options on the menu noodles vs stir fry's and vegetarian options so we were quite optimistic. Our server was very nice, however, the service was noticeably slow even though there were a lot of workers around. Food arrived and the presentation was cute- I got golden chicken curry. Food was really just okay and portion was standard. I've been spoiled by more flavorful Thai food in Toronto, Atlanta and New Orleans and usually have enough to take home for lunch the next day. Salad King is delicious. I've never had a dish here that wasn't good. The worst thing I've ever eaten was the Pad Thai, and it was still good! This is the second downtown location and it took over where many other good businesses have failed, so I'm hoping for a different fate for my Thai friends here. My go to is the Islamic Noodle (off menu) or Chicken Ball Fried Rice. They're both delicious. Any of the noodle dishes are. This location has good spacing so you can keep socially distanced and a nice big bathroom so you're not cramped and uncomfortable. George Costanza would approve. Wanted to treat my colleague to lunch for her birthday. She had never been to salad king and I recommend it since I had been to the one on Yonge street long time ago and loved it. We placed our order and asked the gentleman at the front how long it will take. He said only 10 min. Another lady was there that placed her order right before we did and had ordered an item that we ordered right after her. We came back after 15 min and the lady that ordered right after us was picking up her order. Another man that was there after us also picked up his order. We waited another 10 min and then asked the lady with couloured hair in the kitchen how much longer it will take and she said it is because you ordered fried shrimp that is taking this long. Prior to that I saw her with a paper bag that was supposed to be our shrimp in her hands walking around then remembered that the lady before us had ordered the fried shrimp dish as well however her order was ready long time ago. Asked the lady again and she ignored me and gave a the cut eye. Asked the man that had originally taken our order and he asked the staff. So long story short our order was ready after more than 45 min. I complained and the man suggested that he can offer us two free drinks. The food was definitely not the Thai food you order at other Thai restaurants. Quality wasn't there and the quantity was questionable for the price. Not to mention the service. A new salad king location! Ordered their Islamic noodle and it did not disappoint. It came with a side of sauce that you would dump onto the noodles before you eat it - that ensured that the noodles wouldnt be too soggy. Portion was huge and can definitely feed for two which is why is was about 20 bucks with tip added. Overall loved this dish and i will for sure order it again. First impressions mean a great deal, as we walked into the restaurant we were treated by the hostess it was past 8 pm and the restaurant was 1/3 full. Asked if we could sit at a booth and she said there were none available. You'd think that if you only had 8 booths at a restaurant the employees wouldn't be occupying one of them. When I pointed out the empty booth she replied it was occupied and after seating us she sat in it and browsed her laptop. As for the food, the appetizers were delicious we shared the beef satay and the spring rolls, surprised to see that size of the rolls were actually big. Our mains were both disappointing. My partner had the spicy chicken, he found it was just OK, I had the chicken Phud Thai, and I couldn't eat it. There were more frozen tofu bits in it than chicken, when you chewed on the tofu water oozed out of it. The plate was hot and the vapors were overwhelmed with fish sauce. It tasted like a plate of anchovies. Seeing the plate was still full she asked if I wanted to take it with me, I told her I couldn't eat it as it had too much fish sauce, she replied OK I'll let the chef know for the next time.
