Beef samosa
Travis W.

I walk by here a lot on lunch and never stop in, so I decided to give them a try. I was confused at first, as the dishes in the window are varied and not at all like the dishes in the menu. That being said, I now adore this place. Despite then photos on the window outside (one of them taken from a famous Korean YouTuber's channel of her fried rice), this is a delightful Somali restaurant! I ordered the Shah (sweet Somali tea) which reminded me of the hot, sweet and spicy drink I used to get back in Minneapolis. I got Samosa as an appetizer. Their samosa are light, not too oily, with just the right amount of beef, onion and spices. These are not like Indian or Saudi samosa tho, and their flavor reminded me of the Somali diners in Minnesota that I used to frequent. Hot, fresh, and with a spicy green hot sauce that is like a tomatillo with a blazing fire on the backend. As my main dish, I got the braised goat meat over rice. For 12 bucks, I was shocked with the amount of food I got. The goat was falling off the bone tender, in a spiced red sauce. The meat was juicy and created a lovely gravy for the rice. The rice was wonderful too, buttery with onions...I was in heaven. This place is a diamond in the rough. They take cards, and be sure to ask for extra hot sauce. That stuff is heavenly. I will be back.

The win: the hot sweet tea is one of the best I've had; resembles Turkish tea, but better. And it's served in a ceramic pot with a cup and saucer. All for $1. Another plus is the server: very sweet, very gentle demeanor. Unfortunately, this place is a one and done. As a layperson, I couldn't help comparing the Somali-inspired menu too Ethiopian. It fell way short. The Sabayad very closely resembled the Middle Eastern bread at Trader Joe's. It becomes very chewy after it quickly cools; I left about 75% of it uneaten. Sadly, they did not have the Oodkac (beef jerky) that's listed on the breakfast menu; I have a feeling many items are unavailable. The Anjeero (spongy pancake-like bread) is a treat, but prefer Ethiopian Injera. The Suqaar reminded me of collegiate cooking: fry some beef strips with onions and peppers and a tasteless mixture in a watery sauce is the result. The place is very big, but also very empty. I can't see them lasting too long.

I love shopping here. I can always find something beautiful to wear like dresses, jewelry, sandals. The owners are wonderful and so friendly!

Lamb shank

The restaurant is good , and the staff are very friendly but the prices are a bit high comparing with the same kind of restaurants , over all I think it's good restaurant especially if you are looking for Lamb Shank that will be the best choice for you in the city .

Soqaar and rice

Great spot in Menlo Park. A nice selection of Somalian dishes. The Soqaar and rice was very tasty and the portions are large.

We came on Thursday night so there was live jazz which was incredible. Let's get into the Food, (everything came out fast! ) Nokoss wings: Whatever sauce is on top is addicting! Very aromatic and very flavorful, enjoyed it a lot, will be thinking about these wings for a while. Goat stew and jollof and plantains: note, I am Nigerian so (I am biased lol) my expectations were very high. The Goat was tender, plantains very perfect, and stew on the sweeter side. Jollof wars out of mind, i appreciated the simplicity of the rice and stew. Poulet Braisse: 1000/10, seasoned, tender, filling. Definitely would order 100x again. We do not have this in Nigeria and I'm very jealous. Overall, as a fellow West African, I was really proud to see an African restaurant not only doing really well but being a pillar of the community. I saw they host a bunch of events from Jazz to poetry nights and etc. Well done to the lead chef and management, keep making Africa proud

They have a bunch of live plants, which are beautiful, and paired with cute hanging lights, like you're out on a patio. The food was amazing! My first time here, I hadn't eaten West African food before, and the flavors and spices were so nice. I also recommend the fufu. It's like a "bread" that you dip in the sauce. Very filling, and I took some of my meal home. My family also really enjoyed their meals. We all loved trying something new, and a lot of people had positive reviews of it. You can find parking on the street or there's a lot to the left of the restaurant just across the street. Side note, if you're wanting to go on Juneteenth, make a reservation! It fills up quickly.

Food: I went with the Chicken Yassa which I found to be delicious. Demolished the whole thing and wanted more. Nice seasoning on the chicken, good balance with the rice, cucumber and tomato. Price: $15.95 for the dish (as of June 12, 2025). Pretty good amount of food. Price was about average to what I might expect. Service: Walk up to the counter to order. We had been to a Senegalese restaurant only once before and really enjoyed it, so the wait combined with the aroma was one of those Carly Simon "Anticipation" moments. My lamb order was not chunks of lamb but thinly sliced lamb chops grilled, so you had the flavor and the sear. The chicken dishes were equally savory as well as the accompanying sides. The ladies behind the counter were just so friendly, it was as much a pleasure to chat with them as it was to dine there.

It was piping hot and, well seasoned. I find eating with my hands quite satisfying when it's necessary. Service~Our waiter was very nice, attentive and, a straight shooter (we like that). My man loves greens beans but, he was willing to change it if I didn't like it once it came to the table. Ambiance~Open only Wed~Sun 5-8:00 it's located on a busy/residential street. Having never been before, and with limited experience with the cuisine, we were relying on the server to guide us. Here's where things went south. The server, who initially came across as friendly and sassy, went way too far. Every time he came to the table he became more insulting and condescending. Based on the treatment, it felt like it was because he was serving a table of women. I can both dish it out and take it, but this was so pervasive that it impacted the whole meal. The food was very good, and everyone enjoyed it, but because they serve the entrees directly on top of the injera, it just becomes soggy and impossible to pick up. Ask for it on the side instead, if possible

Still the restaurant had amazing Moroccan vibe, with artistic fabrics on the wall, couches, and cushions. The tables were low to dine like a Moroccan family, but it was difficult to maneuver around. We found out the dinner was a 5 course meal that included lentil soup, Marrakesh salad, B'Stilla Royale, a main dish and dessert. The soup and salad were decent. We really liked the B'Stilla, a dish made with sweet pita bread and very flavorful soft chicken. For entree I had the Tagine of Spicy Lamb. It was spicy as the name suggested, but it so delicious. The lamb was perfectly cooked, tender meat, all laying top of some vegetables and sauce made out of cumin, garlic and tomato. The Tagine of Chicken lemon and olive was also a similar dish that came with a big piece of chicken. The catch of the day came with 2 filet of fish, but the Sharmoula sauce was too strong, was our least favorite. At the end of our meal, we got the creamy dessert and Moroccan tea. The service was nice. Our server was wearing traditional Moroccan attire. She explained us the whole process and gave a nice brief on the history and tradition before starting each course. The dishes came out in short intervals, but being five courses, we were dining for over 1.5 hours. Paying the check was quick using the QR code. Overall it was a delightful first experience for me trying Moroccan cuisine.

The restaurant offers 5-course meal that includes soup, salad, b'stilla, a choice of main dish (we got lamb, chicken , fish) and dessert. Charge by person even kids. They have à la carte menu but we were not offered that on the day. Food is good. Super big portion. I doubt anyone will be able to finish it. You can easily eat 2-3 meals out of it. Chicken with lemon/olive is wonderful. Soft and easy to pull off the meat. Lamb is tender, love the carrots on the side. Fish is cooked beautifully, didn't like the sauce that much tho, a bit sweet for me. The bread, appetizer, the soup are all big portion and literally fill me up. I was trying my best not to eat much so I could have my entree. The seating really throw me off. It's low cushion chair. My outfit of that day was definitely not for that. I had such an issue eating the entire meal. And because i was crunched over, all the food was kinda stuck at my stomach. Decor is exotic. You feel you are in a different country. But again the seats I just can't.
