Ordered a double bacon cheeseburger with a large fry plus two chicken fingers dinners plus two small chocolate malts and one regular chocolate malt. Added on a peach fried pie. Can you guess the total? Thirty bucks? Forty bucks? Fifty? Try $65!!! No malted milk added to the malts. The peach pie was fried to near death. The wife and I went to Salem Dairy Bar last z Sunday for lunch. We are new to the area and choose to spend our money on local establishments. I love the old cement block building with the walk up window. They have plenty of picnic tables under shade trees. The place was pretty crowded and we got the last parking spot. The menu is what you'd expect from a mom and pop walk up burger joint. We noticed the prices were pretty high, but that's to be expected in Todays inflationary economy. We both got cheeseburgers, shared an order of Onion Rings and had small milkshakes. The burgers were average and the onion rings were very good. The shakes were tasty as well. I wouldn't say it's a destination food joint, but it's certainly better than any fast food chains and the atmosphere takes you back to the old days when I was a kid. Pro Tip for the Salem Dairy Bar experience: Order ahead. They were pretty busy and it took about 30 minutes to get our food. It was 100 degrees at 1pm that day and pretty darn hot waiting for it to arrive. read more

I went a few times to try their fish and chicken sandwiches, but especially their homemade onion rings and delicious shakes (hot fudge + butterscotch)! My wife who I met in El Salvador turned to me mid-meal and exclaimed: "it's really good! All of it!" We eat a lot of good meals, and she never says that. WHAT HAPPENED! SDB has been the place to go for the best burger and shakes in Little Rock metro. The shakes are still the best. But the burgers? The toasted bun and condiments are the same. But what have they done to the meat? They used to serve fresh made hamburger patties. Today tasted more like a frozen pressed patty. I can get that at McDonald's! My wife and I split the cheese burger today and threw most of it away. Have never been disappointed in SDB in 27 years till today around 4:00 pm. I hope SDB is listening! read more
