I'd say it's more of a bar than restaurant atmosphere - though they have ample restaurant tables - and the huge bar is definitely populated with a lot of regulars but food and service at the bar has been very good on a few recent visits. And they have a ton of TVs so if you're looking to watch Thursday Night Football on the elusive Amazon Prime Video or other sports this is definitely a good option and they seem to have most games available. Pizza is good (admittedly I've only had the thin crust) and the Chicken Parm is excellent - crispy and tender and the portion is huge for those who value this. Monday is 1/2 price pizza and Thursday is $1 wings (which are huge and pretty good overall) and most days seem to have food & drink specials, menu prices may be slightly higher than some local competitors but the specials often counteract this. It seems to be more of a beer, wine, and well drink crowd and I can't speak to fancy mixology options but if you're looking for someplace with good food to watch sports this appears to be the best option in town. read more

Ok we are done going here for Kentucky Derby . We have gone every year and normally drop a few hundred between food , drinks and gambling but this time hit different . We got there early like normal around noon , ordered our lunches and drinks but the biggest mistake we did was pay bc after we paid the manager hunted me down and wanted me to leave my table ! We planned on ordering more drinks and maybe some appetizers when it hit closer to derby time but I was so insulted we left and will never be back !!!! There is a Salerno's with incredible food in Mt. Prospect, this is not it. Food tastes like they opened a jar of sauce and poured over pasta. Ingredients are low grade and mozzarella cheese they use taste cheap and like plastic. From the first bite we were completely underwhelmed. Would never give this place a second thought. The manager however has walked past us like we are dirt approximately 15 times (twice a week for the past couple months). Food was horrible everything we ordered was so salty we couldn't eat it. We ordered burgers and fries it tasted as if the cook poured a pound of salt on them. I like fries with salt but really bad the amount of salt that was poured on them. There were 3 of us and we all hated the food because it was way to salty. The server asked how we would like our burgers cooked we all received them really well done almost burnt. Maybe Wednesday was not a good night to go there. But because of our experience we will probably never go back the server informed us when we ordered Blue moon they had no oranges so we ordered corona we were then informed it was from Derby day so it was a little old. This bar pizza place is attached to a OTB and is a unique look and experience. Well I didn't try any of the food there was plenty of drinks to choose from and this place seems like a neat hang out for a sports event and pizza party. And in addition you can bet on horse racing so this place seems very unique and cool Salerno's Pizza usually is pretty excellent and I'm sure there's nothing to complain about here read more

Saturdays appear to be busy, maybe they're understaffed or something. Food orders took way longer than expected, considering the place isn't super busy. It took at least 45 minutes for a small kids pizza and some tenders. Had to ask our waitress multiple times of the food was almost ready....not the best experience. I ordered a thin crust pizza with sausage & mushrooms. I specified that I wanted easy cheese & extra sauce. (which I got charged an additional $4.00) The chefs totally ignored my requests! I got a lukewarm pizza that appeared to be overdone. I was very disappointed as they have a very good tavern style pizza. However, I was dismayed to find out the chefs that now work there are Spanish. (most of them don't understand English.) For what I paid, this meal was not worth it. read more

Service is Terrible. Went in with a family of 3. Got an appetizer and a 14 in pizza. It took 20 min. for the one appetizer to come out. When we got to the hour mark we inquired about our pizza only to be told it just went in the oven. The excuse was they put take outs in first. Seems kind of backwards. We left without eating our pizza. It's a shame because the food is good. We last dined about 1 month ago and the service was very slow then too. I was in your restaurant, last night and once again, the food was OUTSTANDING!! My wife and I had the Chicken Parmesan and it is the BEST, I have tasted. I order this at about 7 restaurants and you guys hit a HOME RUN, every time. I wish I lived closer. Our server, Shannon,was GREAT. What a personality!! The menu and the team state that the pasta is home made. If it was home made the ravioli I had was ice cold on two of them and over cooked pasta. Not even sure how that can happen but the ravioli was not good. I have had their turkey burger and that so far is the only dinner that is any good. They don't even offer garlic bread with the ravioli. Then I paid 3 additional dollars for a meatball that was smaller than a golf ball and that was not good either. Very disappointing over all experience. This was out date night Friday and we just went home after a very very underwhelming dinner. They should not continue to say they are an Italian restaurant when they cannot make Italian food very well. What a shame. read more

I'm giving the restaurant 1 star after visiting 3 times. The only reason I've come here 3 times is because of their off track betting. Each time my parties have had the same problems; lousy service and lousy food. First two times going there was a man behind the bar. Any time you ask for something it seemed as if you were bothering him. The last time there I brought a relative. He ordered a chicken wrap and I ordered a turkey burger. The chicken wrap, should have been called a salad wrap bc there were 3 pieces of chicken. The turkey burger is a frozen patty and tasted very bland. We didn't complain as The bartender, a lady, was very rude. At the end when she came to clear our plates, she asked if we needed anything else. I told her no, and if we can just get our checks. We stated earlier we were needing separate checks. I stated this again as she walked away and was ignored. As she was by the register I asked again can we get separate checks, in a rude tone she said no, she can't because she already entered in the bill and the owner didn't train her on how to divide the checks. NOT THE CUSTOMERS PROBLEM. It also isn't rocket science. This is my first time visiting since the change in ownership to Salerno's; I dined alone. Still has a sports-bar vibe with a large bar, high tables, and also some outdoor seating. Was not busy at all on a Saturday night, but still a bit loud with the multiple TVs. I wasn't greeted when I walked in, but found myself a table and eventually a waitress came over with a beer list, after that the service was quite attentive. Beer list included 4 offerings from Whiskey Hill Brewing in Westmont which is apparently owned by one of the partners: I tried 2 that were excellent. A 3 Floyd's beer and national brands were also on draft, as well as bottled beer and a full bar. The menu includes bar appetizers, meal-sized (but not side) salads, sandwiches, pasta, and non-pizza offerings, but I ordered fried cheese curds and a traditional pizza with some extra toppings. The cheese curds were outstanding: very light batter with white cheese. The pizza was very good, a semi-thick crust with oregano-rich sauce and a bit spicy that I think was due to the pepperoni. $33 before tip for a small 12" za curds and 2 beers seems a bit expensive for McHenry, but I do have 2 pizza lunches in my fridge now. I am a long-term Salernos customer from Berwyn Illinois. I just like to get the consistency of the product to be correct. So the pizza lacked enough sauce and was really missing salt. I ordered a salad and I had to remind them that the salad was part of the order when I came to pick up the pizza. then the Salad was missing any salad dressing. Go figure if you don't want to put dressing on the salad just put it on the side. But don't charge $9 or $10 for salad without dressing. If you have a good product like a pizza you should just keep on improving it a little bit at a time not going backward. read more

The waitress brought the wrong pizza and then later asked if we wanted the pizza boxed up while we were eating. We said no we are gonna finish it. She walks by 2 minutes later and grabs the pizza and throws it out. My son and my drinks were not refilled. Eating ice the whole time. The absolute worst waitress in my life. read more
