AMBIANCE: A bit small but beautiful interior. We were seated in the garden room which has a retractable glass roof. The music was very loud, especially toward the later part of the evening. FOOD: It was hit or miss. Shishitos: One of their popular appetizers. It's fried shishito peppers with sea salt. It was good however I've had better. Croquetas: It's different each day but they're very creamy and literally melt on your mouth. Alcachofas Crujientes: It's crispy fried artichoke hearts, beets, goat cheese, preserved lemon aioli... however very strong goat cheese flavor. Pulpo a la Sartén: The octopus was delicious and very well made. It's seared, sitting on top of fingerling potatoes, olives, and green cucumber salsa. Entrańa: The steak was very tender and it was made just right. It went very well with the harissa-romesco sauce. Overall, I recommend it. Definitely coming back to try their paella! read more

My nephew and I enjoyed a very pleasant Xmas Eve here. I love Spanish tapas and this is definitely a more refined version. We ordered 3appetizers and 2mains which was the perfect amount of food. Satisfied but not stuffed. We enjoyed the fried artichoke and pulpo so much, I forgot to take a picture. We got the branzino and shorts as mains. The fish was juicy and flavorful. The ribs were so tender they cut with a fork. Delicious. For dessert we had the burnt cheesecake which was fluffy and not too heavy or sweet. We washed it all down with the house old fashioned. I was here with 5 others (well eventually 4) perhaps a month ago. I'd like to apologize at first as one of the people in my group brought two extra people but they were able to sit at the bar and munch so I assume the staff were fine as more people dining is a good thing for them anyway (even if it was a headache for our host.) Anyway, the staff was nice and they were very good with Covid protocols. The place has a night atmosphere (perhaps a bit too much mood lighting so the photos were a tad dark) and overall the food was fantastic. The majority of us stuck with a couple tapas each (though some were more pintxo) while a few of us such as myself got a tapas and a main. I personally went with the berenjena as my appetizer/tapas followed by the algas gallegas al mole vasco and as dessert, I got the pastel de queso vasco/Basque burnt cheesecake. In terms of a drink, I went with the kalimotxo O.F. (17$) which is their take on an old fashioned. It consisted of whiskey (unspecified type oddly,) kalimotxo syrup, and angostura bitters. For those unaware, kalimotxo is a drink consisting of red wine and cola. This syrup added some sweetness to it and overall it was a refreshing and unique take on an old fashioned. Berenjena- Grilled eggplant , toasted pistachios , pistachio-anchovy aioli. (16$) This was very tasty. The eggplant had nice grill marks and the pistachios complimented it well adding a richness to the dish. I couldn't exactly taste the anchovy but perhaps it was adding to the light saltiness of the dish. I can see why others like this also. In terms of other appetizers, people got the garbanzo fritos, patatas bravas, pan tumaca, calabaza y semillas the daily croquette, patatas bravas, and iberico. The only ones I tried were the calabaza which was good though perhaps not worth it for the price, the croquette which was fantastic (though I don't recall the daily flavor,) the pan tumaca which was good, and the garbanzos fritos which was a very light appetizer with a pleasant texture. The latter would work well if was here for cocktails as I could definitely see it as a finger food at the bar. Algas Gallegas al Mole Vasco - Galician seaweed, hen of the woods mushrooms, courgette, fennel, Basque mole, and a green pea pesto (around 28$ perhaps, maybe a bit more) As per the name, it concentrated on the algas gallegas or Galician seaweed/algae which they used similarly as a pasta and said seaweed was very tasty. I inquired what basque mole/mole vasco was as I have never heard of it and the person explained that it was a tomato/onion based sauce and in general it reminded me of a romesco though without the nuttiness. Overall it was excellent. The dish is oddly not listed on the online menu (I believe it is new judging by the IG post) but I believe it was in the mid or upper 20s or something and it was definitely worth it. Another person got the entrana which they enjoyed. In terms of dessert, I got the Pastel de Queso Vasco or in short a Basque burnt cheesecake. Having recently become popular due to a bunch of spots, I personally found this to be a good version. The cheesecake was a bit smaller and less rich than other places but it made up with a better texture than most. There were some pieces that were a bit more burnt A bit less rich than other places but quite tasty. The more burnt pieces added a nice texture. It is perhaps a bit overpriced at 14$ but as it is a nice spot, I can let it slide a bit more. I tried the torrija from someone else which was a bit worse. The bread pudding as someone else said was a bit too dry. Overall outside of one lackluster dessert and perhaps one or two overpriced tapas, the food here was very good and overall worth it. There was a wonderful mix of flavors and I can see why it's very popular in the neighborhood. The service was very nice as well. Mid 4 bumped up the general quality of the food and service. read more

We came here for my friend's bachelorette and loved it! It's a pri fixe $75 family style menu. We got different toasts with toppings for appetizers. It was absolutely delicious. We also got octopus, cauliflower and shishito peppers. For our mains, we got the hanger steak, fideo pasta and bomba rice. Honestly, everything was delicious and the servings were all so large. We had a bunch of leftovers. At the end, they bring you a few chef's selection desserts. Overall, a pricier dinner but well worth. read more

An appalling experience! Recently went with a group of 8 so was limited to their large party dictates: set menus, set times, set service. Food started coming out as soon as we were seated, before drinks order was even taken. Before we could catch our breath, endless platters covered the table, no distinction between amuse bouche, appetizers and first course. It didn't stop until we begged them not to bring out any more food. Empty or half empty platters were taken off the table to make room for more food!! It felt like we were cattle at the trough!! After barely having dessert we were summarily asked to leave by a nasty woman who wouldn't even allow my husbands water glass to be filled! We've been there before, the food is very good (I am from Spain and know). This is a management problem. These group arrangements need more time and more finesse. Food is overall good; pork belly and octopus were delicious, patatas bravas were over fried and the sauce overpowered the caviar. We got paella, octopus, potatoes, cauliflower and eggplant. This was our 2nd time visiting and both times the food was ok. It wasn't amazing for the price and the paella really fell flat on the expectations. For the price, I would have expected to have really tasty dishes, and they were pretty average. Salinas is a great Tapas spot in Chelsea. Reservations are recommended as the place can get pretty packed. They have both outdoor and indoor seating. They have done a great job making the menu and ordering process completely digital. You can order and pay online for a seamless experience. The drinks were great - we got the Gibraltar Negroni and Kalimotxo Of. For the appetizers, we tried the Patatas Bravas and Croquetas. Both were delicious! For the main course we had Rossejat Rapida ( Fideo pasta with chicken, chorizo and clams) and Pulpo a la Sarten (Seared octopus). The dishes were cooked to perfection. We had the Pastel De Queso Vasco ( Basque burnt cheesecake) for dessert. I would highly recommend it! Overall it was a great dining experience with great food, cocktails and service! read more

Super cute location in chelsea. Small venue but very cute. Went during the winter but during the summer the roof deck will open up. We enjoyed many different food options in tapas style including the shishitos, croquets, papas fritas, octopus, spaghetti, steak, and olive oil cake. Really enjoyed everything especially the octopus and the steak. Also had espresso martinis and vanilla martini. Service was amazing, very quick and very kind. Salinas is top notch. My friends and I went here for New Years Eve Dinner and did the $95 price fixe menu. I love the quaint, intimate atmosphere and the great service. Perks on top of that is they had an excellent DJ with some good house mixes. The amount of food you get is reasonable for the price and better than your average tapas place. The arroz vasco truly stole the show and I would come back simply for this dish. The croquetas and cauliflower were my second favorite. The croquetas were perfectly crispy and had an excellent pairing of tartness with garnish and cheesiness. I would give Salinas a five star but the bread wasn't as fresh as I wanted it to be and the dessert was not the best. Not bad but not memorable. This is such a hidden gem in WV/Chelsea! We booked a spot in their garden room and the outdoor area is beautiful. It almost reminds me of Ibiza with the indoor/ outdoor vibe and has great seating. We quickly ordered their sangria and it was incredible and extremely flavorful. The staff was amazing and they recommended the eggplant with pistachio cream, the fried artichokes in a lemon sauce and the steak. The eggplant honestly blew me away and I would go back solely for that dish. The steak was excellent and the side salad was incredible. As someone who usually does not eat side salads, this stood out to me. This is a perfect spot for meat lovers as well as vegetarians and a great date spot! read more

I have now been to Salinas several times. I love to recommend it for dinners/drinks with friends as it's consistently good and they have a decent amount of reservations that you don't have to book weeks in advance. A few highlights: 1) Service: Their staff are always great. Shoutout to Fabian for not even being my waiter sometimes but still checking in on my table and making sure we have everything we need. He even saw my friend and I taking a selfie and offered to take a photo of us. 2) Cocktails: Their sangria is insane-- the red wine ice cube so it doesn't dilute, the pomegranate undertones...it's strong and not too sweet. I also got a vodka-based cocktail last time with rock candy in it and it was so good. They have a solid drink menu. 3) Food: Everything is excellent. Particularly love the croquettes (they change them every time), the crudo, the eggplant, octopus, patatas bravas...but they never miss, so order anything. As far as ambiance it's definitely a beautiful space with darker lighting. Vibes are fun and great for groups, but could also be a good date spot. read more

Went here for date night recently. The ambiance was very romantic and intimate. We were a little upset because we wanted to try the paella and the popcorn octopus but those were outdated items/ not on the menu for the day. We ordered the shishito, Patatas bravas, berenjena and the arroz fasco. The tapas were all phenomenal! The Berenjena was my favorite thing that we ordered. We stopped by before a show and only had appetizers but the crudo, the pulpo and patatas were SO good. I'll have to come with a bigger stomach to try entrees but it was so good. While traveling to NYC we made this reservation in advance. It was our first night, our reservation was at 8:30pm. We arrived at 8:28pm and were seated at 8:35pm. I am going to make several notes on times because that is all the focus when you come to this restaurant.... The atmosphere was very nice. Nice decor. Very loud but that doesn't bother us. We were seated in the "garden room". We waited a long time to even order our drinks. They were very good bar drinks. The waiter was nice but more attentive to the table next to us, who appeared to be his friends and immune to the "90 minute time limit" for their table. Even though they weee seated after us, they ordered and received their tapas before we even had the opportunity to place a food order. We were finally given the opportunity to order at 8:52pm. We ordered 3 tapas and 3 entrees. The cauliflower and pepper tapas came out very quickly. They were well cooked and very good. About 10 min later the salmon tartare came out. It was good but about 2 min later, while we still had food on our appetizer plates and the dishes a member of the wait staff came and tried to take the plates... we were actively eating. He said our entrees were ready we sent him away so we could finish the tapas. This is where we really started feeling rushed. We quickly finished and the plates were cleared, we then sat there for 10-15 min waiting for our entrees. So, they weren't actually ready. The entrees came after 930pm. They were hot but nothing special. They came to try and take our plates before all of us were done. We couldn't even enjoy conversation because they were constant. They brought the bill at 10:02pm and I was still eating and 2 of our drinks were over half full. They came to take the check 2x (we hadn't even put our cards down). Out of pure frustration we threw 3 cards down. They took them without even confirming how we wanted the check split they did it 3 ways, even. We had to chug our drinks and leave at 10:09pm. We left a nite on the check about how rushed we were. There wasn't even anyone waiting for a table when we walked out. I went to write a reservation on our Resy reservation and they had pulled it out of the system knowing we would write a review. That seems very slimy. I came here as a party of 5 for a friend's birthday on a Saturday evening. I recommend making a reservation before paying a visit to this gem of a Spanish restaurant. The first thing you notice is the amazing ambience. It's a dimly lit, classy, and very intimate venue where you can just kick back and enjoy the food and company. In terms of the food, flavors were very well executed. I mean that's to be expected for a $$$$ tier restaurant. We ordered the berenjena (eggplant with pistachios), the torrada de anchoas (truffle toast with anchovies), and the patatas bravas for the tapas. The berenjena was simply divine as it boasted a creamy, melt in your mouth vessel paired with a crunchy pistachio topping that served an amazing contrast. Flavors were super well paired together to say the least. The torrada de anchoas was also a delightful morsel that too possessed an immaculate balance of rich/umami (from the truffle) and sour (from the anchovies). Lastly, you can never really go wrong with the patatas bravas -- fried to perfection with a slightly spicy aioli. For entrees, our party ordered the arroz vasco (rice), the lubina (fish), and the hamburguesa. The arroz vasco was rich and had plenty of seafood like shrimp, squid, and clams. It paired quite well with the lubina, which by itself is underwhelming; however, when eaten combined with the vegetables underneath and raisins on top, is a mindblowing bite of balance and complex flavors. Highly recommend these two. Lastly, the hamburguesa was apparently forgettable according to the other person in my party. Interesting, but not appealing to his palate. Overall, this restaurant got the job done. A memorable and delicious dinner with an even better ambience to really set the mood. Very cute vibe with great lighting. They recommend 3 appetizers and 2 entrees for 2 people which can be too much if you don't order balanced foods. We went too heavy with our options so we were quite full, leaving quite a bit left over of the arroz and pulpo. That said, I recommend swapping out some of the heavier options for a salad. Order slowly because everything comes out really quickly. So if you're like me and like to savor your meal, order as you go or request that the server time your meal to come out over time. Overall, we had a fairly disappointing meal at Salinas. Immediately, we were at a disadvantage, being led to a table in the bar, rather than the gorgeous room with the retractable roof. I guess we didn't look "swanky" enough, which in NYC has nothing to do with your dress, but more to do with your hip quotient. I am too old to look hip in the city. I apologized to my wife because ten years ago we would be treated like celebrities. The kitchen was closing at 9:30, yes, even in NYC, and the staff was rushing to clean up. This should never be tolerated. Servers and staff shouldn't start cleaning up until the last patron has left. I demanded that in my restaurants. Food was okay, but not memorable. Our rice dishes were bland, but at least my wife's dish arrived in a traditional Paella pan. My rice dish was slopped together on a plate. That being said, the food was okay until the bill arrived: $219.00 for two appetizers, two entrees, bread, two cocktails and two glasses of wine. That's Michelin star Paris dining prices folks! Yikes! The room is pretty, perfect for a date, but at those prices there are one hundred better choices in New York. read more

I really like a Tapas place called Tia Pol in Chelsea but we decided to try something new. I think based on the selection of tapas and price point, we'll stick with Tia Pol but it was still nice to try this place as well. I didn't like that the server was pushy about ordering more dishes. We were thinking of getting 5 tapas to share and then she said we should try the entrees as well so we ordered 2 entrees and 4 tapas to share and she was like you should really get one more tapa which is a lot of food. I just didn't like the pushiness and we should have went with what we were originally thinking because it ended up being way too much food for us (there was only 2 of us) and the bill ended up being high as a result. My favorite tapa was the arugula salad which was nice and fresh and accompanied all the other creamy tapas really well. The croquetas melted in your mouth but were a little too creamy for me. I always like a good octopus and the one here was no exception. Everything had really good flavor, but it was definitely expensive. read more
