While staying at the Monterey Hotel, my boyfriend and I decided that in order to save walking time, we would use a taxi service to take us to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The concierge at our hotel called this cab service for us. While I waited for my boyfriend to park his vehicle at the public parking lot about a block away, thinking that by the time he got back to me the taxi would appear. We didn't anticipate such a timely arrival for the cab. I was waiting by the curb when our taxi showed up. Now I was feeling more than embarrassed and kept apologizing for causing the driver to wait for my boyfriend to return. But our driver Michael Patterson didn't seem annoyed at us, (although somewhat quiet). Thankfully, my boyfriend came back after about a 5 minute wait. We piled in and directed him to take us to the aquarium. The ice finally broke when Michael jokingly asked "is that place still open?" We had a good laugh and continued with some small talk. During the short trip, our driver began pointing out places of interest, restaurants and bars. We felt very comfortable by the end of this journey and gave him a well deserved Yelp recommended tip! read more

I booked a day in advance for a trip between Hollister and Salinas on their website that is supposed to support both areas. The guy in Salinas calls me at the exact time I expected someone to pick me up and tells me that I need to book with Hollister (even though I booked on the website for both cities). So now I'm stuck because I need to leave now. So then I call the guy in Hollister and apologize because I booked it online but I needed it right then, and, he hung up on me! When Salinas Yellow Cab Co says they have quick and responsive service you better believe them. On a recent trip to Monterey we decided to take a cab to the aquarium and walk back. I told my girl friend to ask the check in clerk to call a cab while I parked my truck in the lot across the street. I could not have been gone more than seven or eight minutes but the cab was already there when I got back. He had even been patiently waiting for five minutes. The cab driver was quite personable and pointed out the land marks along the way to us. I would definitely use this cab service again. read more

When the man took us home i thought he was going take the long way and i was about to ask him to go the direction that was quicker to my home, he ended up going the way i was going to ask them. We used Salinas to take us from Big Sur to SF area. The quote we were given upon booking was $280 however we were charged almost $400 despite there being no traffic. When we called management they said the agreed upon price was mistake. This is infuriating because while our driver was extremely nice (and this was not his fault at all), we could've take a luxury car instead of a yellow cab for the same price. I can't even give them 1/2 a star. I had an early morning appointment for surgery so I called the day before to set up a ride since I wouldn't be fit to drive myself home. This made it necessary for me to arrange for a ride to the facility. I asked for a cab to pick me up at 5:45 a.m. and was told that was not a problem. At 5:50 a.m. the day of surgery I received a call saying that they couldn't rouse anyone to come pick me up. Since I had to check in at the surgery center at 6:00 a.m. I had to drive myself there and later that day arrange for 2 kind people to go and pick up my car. I've used Yellow Cab regularly over the past 2 years, while living in Salinas. I was thrilled at first when I was receiving the same lady who understood where I worked and seemed urgent to get me there. So for a time I was very happy with their services and regular drivers. But that has all changed. My last experience on top of the accumulating bad and then worse experiences I've been having has led me to this post. Also, after being treated rudely by the management claiming I've wasted their time, after I've been sitting outside keeping an eye out for a driver who keeps calling with a TV in the background acting as if he's outside. After the second OK, I'm outside, he claims its on Sanborn. Nowhere near my house. I spelled the name, I texted the street address, I've used them so many times in the past to the point they knew me and my number. Leading to this time also included; a driver reeking of alcohol swerving back and forth at 10 under the speed limit at 10 am, a driver taking N101 for 5 miles before turning around and going back and actually trying to give me a 5$ discount off of the 12$ he went in wrong way miles, and the original regular women driver who , the last time, rode high as a fucking kite with a male companion, whom I assume to be her meth dealer. I've turned an understanding eye over and over while you haven't once in the last 10 rides, made anything better. Tonight was my last straw with Yellow Cab and the utmost disrespect I received from management when I've been a 25% tipper every single ride. Even $20s on my regular $13.50 ride to work. Get your shit together, Yellow Cab. And enjoy your upcoming bad luck. read more

I was in need of a fast lift to a local car rental. I had not been in a cab in years! The operator was efficient and accurate about when I could get a cab. The driver called my phone when he got there and we were off! The cab was very clean, the driver polite and we got there in very short order! So my husband I went out for our anniversary and we needed a taxi we were only a few miles from home. We called yellow cab to pick us up. We took a taxi to the our destination and it cost us 6.75. When the cab arrived to take us home it was a different driver and it took about 20 minutes which was a little long but acceptable. We told cabbie our address in south Salinas. The driver said no problem. when the cabbie got to the first light he was supposed to make a left and he made a right turn. We looked at each other and at first thought maybe a shortcut? Nope..he actually started to drive completely away from our destination. We both spoke up and said "Sir..where are you going? We want south Salinas not North Salinas. I don't know if the cabbie assumed we were drunk or what but we didn't want to pay more money for a relatively short cab ride. Once the cabbie turned around low and behold he knew exactly where we needed to be dropped off without using GPS. The ride cost us an extra 2 dollars which in most cases isn't much but to us it was an unnecessary expense. We put in a call for a supervisor and he was very professional and courteous. The supervisor assured this is not normal business practice and that it would definitely be handled and i completely accepted his apology and feel confident that this would not happen again. I am giving three stars based on the fact that the supervisor was on point. We would be willing to give yellow cab another chance based on that. read more

It's very rare I ever give a negative review about a local business because I believe in this town and its people in it. Let me say first and foremost that I did NOT want to write a negative review on yelp, I gave the owner of Yellow Cab the opportunity to speak with me on the phone for over a week and I still have not received a phone call back. I think this is atrocious to not return a disgruntled customers phones calls. My experience is explained below, in the hope that Yellow Cab change their policies immediately. One of the taxi cab drivers of the Yellow Cab Company did an unlawful act against my friend's personal property. To make a long story short, here are the details. First, a friend of mine forgot her phone in the taxi two Saturday's ago. They spoke to the Yellow Cab dispatcher and communicated "the driver will drop off the phone at the location you were dropped off at, she will charge a fee for delivery. She lives close to the location." There was no option discussed to pick up the phone at the Yellow Cab location. Next, the cab driver pulled up to my house and proceeded to demand 20 dollars out of me for my friend's phone. I told her that it was absolutely ridiculous to demand 20 dollars from me to return personal property that does not belong to her. I told her I would gladly give her 5 dollars but not 20, especially since the night before, we took a 7 dollar cab ride from the bar to my home in south Salinas. After she rudely demanded the money, she got on the phone with the Yellow Cab dispatcher and spoke in Spanish, not realizing my husband speaks Spanish and threatened to "get rid of the phone if I do not get 20 bucks." Multiple times, she communicated in Spanish she was going to get rid of the phone if she did not get her 20 dollars. Because I was in a rush, I gave her the money, she rudely counted the cash and threw me the phone. When I called the dispatch to complain when she left, Yellow Cab never took responsibility for her actions and said "they are independent contractors and can charge whatever they want." If this is Yellow Cabs policy, then it needs to be made clear to the customer and regulated by the distance it took to return the phone with some type of verification. Think of the worst situation and what power the driver has..... What if the customer lost their wallet too and needed the phone to make some phone calls? What if the cab driver asked for $100? What if the customer was in a dangerous situation he/she needed the phone to get out of?? And, what if I didn't have the cash to pay her??? If this is their policy, it needs to be further evaluated to protect the customer from their drivers abusing the system and taking advantage of their customers. Because I did not hear back from the owner by Tuesday, I called the Chief of Police and he advised me that it is completely unlawful to threaten to damage personal property in return for a fee. I am notifying the BBB. I am going to file a complaint on Yellow Cab and the driver with the City of Salinas. No customer should be treated this way. "Misappropriation of found property" defines the law as "One who finds lost property under circumstances which give him knowledge of or means of inquiry as to the true owner, and who appropriates such property to his own use, or to the use of another person not entitled thereto, without first making reasonable and just efforts to find the owner and to restore the property to him, is guilty of theft." Basically, if the driver had thrown out the phone or got "rid of the phone, (as she said in Spanish multiple times to the dispatcher), because of lack of payment, we could have had a case. I don't care if Yellow Cab drivers are finger printed and background checked for safety. Once they are hired, Yellow Cab takes no responsibility in making their customers happy. I have called three times to speak with the owner to talk about the situation. I was not looking for reimbursement, I was not looking for the driver to pay me back, I just wanted to air my grievance with the owner so they could prevent this from happening again. Yellow Cab needs to reevaluate their policies on the returning of personal property to their customers before the wrong person forgets their phone in a cab. I will state again, if the owner had called me back during the last 10 days, I would have not written this review. I write it now as a last resort to communicate the issue to the owner. I assume he/she does not care enough to return my call, so hopefully they can read this review and take it seriously. Here is the best part, when she drove away her registration tags were expired since September of 2014. read more

Horrible service, rude and overcharged. I ordered a cab then once I gave them my card number they sent me a receipt that said $80 I then called to cancel since the price was more than the $70 we agreed to over the phone. They then told me I couldn't cancel the driver was already driving. I couldn't get refunded either whether I took the cab or not. Uber doesn't do this they let u cancel.
