I'm upset I even have to write this but I think others could learn from my mistakes. I've spent the last 2 months debating posting it but I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars to try to not only fix but repair my hair from the damage from the negligence of Jan Marie. I asked for the left picture, simple brunette with a few thin highlights & got the right. My hair was dark brown (also pictured) and the inspo picture should have been achievable without bleaching my entire head (?) I left with a full head of bleached, damaged and yellow(?) hair. I barely had any unbleached hair. Completely ruined & fried after I've grown it out for YEARS to be healthy. I asked Jan Marie to fix it the next day, and when I went she asked me "so what, we aren't ready to look like the picture?" I was honestly baffled by that comment, that she truly thought she gave me what we agreed on in the picture. I needed to get through the appointment to get my hair back to brunette for my engagement in a week. Throughout the appointment it was clear she believes she did what I wanted. When I said to her that I wanted to be brunette, and that I am now blonde, her response was "your PERCEPTION is that you're blonde, but you're not blonde." "Your perception" Gaslighting me. Also the "fix" didn't fix anything, she just sloppily laid a color ontop of my hair and said "happy now?" She never once acknowledged that this is her wrongdoing and blamed it all on me that it was my fault. I felt so uncomfortable the whole time and was cordial just so I can get my hair back to a normal brunette color. I contacted the manager (Mylene) and she said that the stylist (Jan Marie) told Mylene that Jan Marie DID gave me the inspiration picture that we agreed on during my first appointment & that she should have charged me for 2 services. lol. However I showed the manager the pictures of what we agreed on vs what I got & she was apologetic and agreed this is very different from what I asked for & the pictures look nothing like what we agreed on. She gave me a full refund ($365) Less than 2 months later I have paid a different salon $200 to cut off the dead hair Jan Marie left me, over $700 to "color correct" in multiple sessions to get BACK TO MY NATURAL HAIR COLOR, over $700 already on different at home and salon treatments to try to fix this. I am left with completely damaged hair which shouldn't have been done if the job was done correctly & without negligence from Jan Marie. I will be continuing to spend thousands of dollars to get my hair to be healthy in time for my wedding. read more

But he was very respectful and responsible with my satisfaction. He listened to all of my request very patiently (I have a high expectation when it comes to styling) He was very sweet and other assistance was as well. This is not the place to go if you have a commitment after your salon appointment. My hairstylist, Scott, and his assistant, were excellent and ahead of schedule. The colorist, Gloria, and hers, not so much. Gloria was 15 mins late, and both she and her assistant managed to get color all over my face, neck, and hands - I had to constantly ask them to clean it up. The salon itself is no great shakes; it feels like an unsuccessful fancy/industrial blend. It's uncomfortable and kind of cheap. I'm haunted by the mean girl at the front desk (tall, with two-toned hair as of about 6 weeks ago). She was just so angry and rude, grabbing the $40 product out of my hand and slamming it on the desk after I said I didn't want it. I should have spoken to a manager right then, but I just wanted to get out of there & feel safe. My haircut was not a $150 cut by any means - though it's a quality cut, the style is absolutely not suitable to my hair texture, and we spoke at length about it, so I don't know what happened. I've had many many great shag haircuts, and this is not even close. It's like a weird bob that has not looked good on me once, even though the stylist promised a wash & wear style (which I've requested & received for years from other salons) My friends & neighbors concurred that it wasn't working, so I went back for a recut, which isn't much better. On August 20, Saturday, I had an appointment with Jacob Schmidt. I was messaged less then an hour prior to this appointment. I was in a taxi half way there. The message said that he was feeling sick and cancelled. i had an event that evening. When this salon confirms your appointment you have to cancel 24 hours in advance to be credited. I spoke to the manager of this salon and was told that they would pay for the taxi. My response was that cancelling appointment works both ways. She spoke to Jacob and he refused to give me even a partial credit. It is not just a taxi that needs to be credited, but my valuable time that this salon does not respect. It's hard to put into words how incredibly wonderful my experience at the salon was this past Saturday (10/17). Although there was a little delay in getting started, the moment Rosario walked up to my chair I knew I was in capable, loving and thoughtful hands. Before I found Matt Fugate at Sally Hershberger, my hair was a complete disaster. A series of bad to horrible haircuts had left me with uneven, choppy layers and a general sense of feeling bad about my appearance. Matt changed all that with the very first cut he gave me. He understands different hair textures (mine is curly, wavy and straight all at once and VERY thick), and really listens to the client to help her feel absolutely beautiful. His technique is precise and he snips every hair to absolute perfection. I won't let anyone else cut my hair now -- and I don't even live in NYC anymore. I travel back just so he can cut it. The salon is definitely pricey, but I really think it's worth it. I know other posters have said they had negative experiences with customer service but I've always been treated with the utmost respect and courtesy, from booking my appointment on the phone to walking in the door to checking out. I've been coming to Nathan for over a year for my double process retouch and am beyond thrilled. My hair is really thick and wavy, and falls to my lower back. It's a lot of upkeep and I was dreading having to find a new stylist to do my roots when I moved back to NYC. When I first came to see Nathan my hair was a splotchy mess. I had tried a few different colorists and my ends has been toned way too cool (almost blue) and the top of my hair was a brassy nightmare. I desperately needed to even out out my color and find a shade that suited me. I've been blond for almost ten years, and I've never found a stylist who could color my hair to an even platinum. Not to mention dye it so the toner doesn't fall out after one shampoo! At least until I found Nathan at the Sally Hershberger salon. My color is now a perfectly balanced platinum and doesn't even get brassy between appointments. If you're looking for a talented stylist that actually LISTENS, and truly puts care into their work, you have to book with Nathan. Especially if you're a blond! :) read more

It's been 5 (long) months since I got my hair highlighted by Aura and there hasn't been 1 day that's gone by that I'm not filled with remorse. While I'm not here to ruin anyone's reputation, I think it's only appropriate to share my "actual" experience. I'd like to preface by stating that I'm familiar with the process of bleaching hair. I've been highlighting my hair since I was 18, (however not consistent, as I understand very well of how damaging it can be), and basically grew up in my mother's hair salon. The first time I went to Aura, I left happy... with the color. The placement of the highlights, not so much. She has one style, and one style only which is to bleach your entire head of hair, leaving out maybe 30 pieces. Naturally, 3 months later when the toner wore out, I was left with an entire head of brassy hair. Ok fine, that happens. However, it would have made a difference if she honored my request of "chunky" highlights. Instead I was met with every 5th hair highlighted so of course when the toner ran out I had a full head of brassy hair. I was also left with "bleach lines" in the shape of her brush all over the top of my head. When I wear the top part of my hair back, all u see are lines. My friends comment all the time. Ever hear of "tapering" the bleach so it blends at the top? Her work is completely sloppy, messy and not well thought out. I went back asking for a remedy, suggesting, (once again), CHUNKY highlights, (to add contrast), and to my surprise she went on a 15 minute speech of how she can't do "chunky" highlights because the bleach runs into other pieces so she has to do them all. Ummm... ok . Ever hear of bleaching in "sections?" I've had chunky highlights before, as well as the rest of the world. It can be done, Aura clearly doesn't understand the "technique". Pretty crazy given it's a common request. After 6 months, I went to another salon asking for "contrast", which she added a few highlights but the color wasn't as good as Auras, so 6 months later, I cautiously went back to Aura. I made it abundantly clear that I wanted, "contrast" and "extra light" on the front ends. What I wanted to say was, "please don't highlight my hair like the last time when it looked like I got highlights through a bleaching cap". I think we all know what I'm talking about. Artistically painted highlights, lighter in unexpected places. The end result was shocking. As I'm blowing my hair out I see chunks of little pieces of hair falling out on the table. The entire table was covered with my broken hair that looked like piles of rice. No exaggeration. It was little white pieces all over the table...in large piles. I WISH I took a photo. I quickly ran to ask aura if this is "normal", and she literally scoffed, "yeah, this happens when you come in with your hair already bleached", and turned around and walked away. She snubbed me, and I still tipped her 20%. Worst $100 I ever spent in my life. I left in shock, but I should have called the police. What she did to my hair was completely criminal. FYI, just because I had previous highlights does not merit me culpable for my hair falling out. I've walked in to salons with my hair way more bleached than I did when I came to u and NEVER in my life has my hair fallen out like that before. I'm no celebrity colorist, but it seems to me that she used the wrong volume bleach, AND left it on entirely way too long. Basic shit I learned while watching my mother in her salon when I was 10. That's not all. When I got home I was mortified to see only the middle part of my hair bleached. I asked for extra light on the front ends. I was so confused. Is this a new trend? Highlighting the middle of ur hair? When I went back for her to "fix it" she not only questioned how that happened, (as if she didn't do it), but she so graciously insulted me and said she "couldn't believe I was walking around with the highlights I had when I first came to her. Darling, I'd rather walk around any day of the week with brassy highlights, then what u left me with. Due to the irreparable damage that she has done, the humidity leaves me with a ball of frizz that no product will fix, which is why I'm leaving a review 5 months later. Hasn't science revolutionized the way we are going blonde? Ie: olapex, wellaplex? How does a self proclaimed "celebrity colorist", literally fry someone's hair to the point of contemplating shaving it off? read more

Great Salon Experience!!! I was looking for a color upgrade that wouldn't be too high maintenance but rather compliment my natural color. Weeks after I got my hair done people still stop me and ask me where I got it done. Nathan Nutter listened and gave me exactly what I wanted!!!! He gave me a color that would compliment my brown and life to my layers yet natural enough to make people wonder "Is that your natural hair color? Cuz its amazing?" I bought my niece a nice graduation gift (grad school). Her mom had passed away and her dad is sick. I figured fancy highlights would brighten her up inside and out. She has medium brown hair, and brought in many photos of darker blonde highlights. She was sent to Nathan. This girl is quiet, not overly sensitive, and super polite. She said he acted like he didn't want to be there, told her the pics she brought in we're not possible with her base color, and yet offered no other solutions. She sat there as he worked without a word to her for an hour. The result? $400.00 for some barely noticeable lighter brown streaks. She said he was rude with a nasty attitude. I've never heard her complain that readily about someone performing a service before, she's a real easy going kid. Check yourself, Nathan. Stop bringing your problems to work. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Natalie. She did an amazing job with my color. She softened the tones and definitely hit the mark with what I was asking for. I am looking forward to continuing to see her and have her apply keratin bonded extensions. Alternatively, Carlos cut my hair, and I was pretty disappointed. I think he maybe put the scissors through my hair a total of 25 times. Nothing like the elaborate cuts I get at smaller, less expensive salons. I talked at length about a certain way I wanted it styled and he didn't make much effort to see if I was satisfied with that part of the cut. All he wanted to do was talk the entire time. Then came styling -- I left with droopy waves that took over an hour to do (total waste of time) and was feeling incredibly dissatisfied. His cut cost $250, which was more than the coloring! SO OVERPRICED. Moral: do NOT get your hair cut here. Coloring is worth it, but everything else is NOT. read more

Eek! Methinks not. Had my color done by Dana, who was totally unprofessional. I'm a natural dark blonde and went for highlights. First red flag - lamp too close to my head and started to burn my head. Dana told me oh there is a timer on that. Timer or not it's too close to my scalp and burned me. Second red flag - my hair came out uneven, way too white and has shadows from where she didn't color and hair is still dark underneath. Went to another salon who said that it's bleeding from the highlighted hair running onto the un-highlighted hair. Third red flag - I expressed this concern to her and was told 'you need to get your hair under control; like trim and conditioner'; she went on to berate me.
