Pick-up from the dock was easy and since we were the first tour, it was just us and one other person! Everyone from our driver, the capt, and staff at Hump Island were so welcoming, friendly, and informative about the area. With our group being so small, it felt more intimate and enjoyable. Our boat ride was great to and from Hump Island because our captain made sure to show us around and we were able to catch glimpses of bald eagles and whales! Once we arrived to Hump Island Oyster Co we were greeted and given such detail about the process at the farm. Our kids got to enjoy their touch tank and even spotted some jellyfish! Once upstairs, we enjoyed raw and charbroiled oysters along with some amazing salsas and sauces. The whole experience reminded my husband and I of that of wine tasting, but with oysters. Conversation flowed and the laid back atmosphere was comfortable and enjoyable. It was magical being in this part of Alaska and enjoying fresh oysters shucked right in front of us and grown right there. Thank you, Hump Island Oyster Co! I love oysters and it was great seeing how much work and care goes into farming of oysters, especially in Coldwater such as Alaska because the water is so cold they still lose about 50% of the oysters they begin with. The setting is just spectacular and the tour is very well organized. I would suggest that if you're ever in Ketchikan Alaska on a cruise or other vacation that you take part in this fun activity.

So we stocked up on items worth over $200 total, including some gifts for our friends. Then, on the way out we saw another shop just around the corner and decided to see if we could get a few more things. Well... that other shop had mostly the same items but at much lower prices. In the most extreme case, we're talking the same exact item (brand, size, and packaging) costing $5.95 when we just bought several of those at the Salmon Market for $16.95 each! I could understand a $1-2 price difference between different stores, but this was ***3x the price***... We went back to see if we could return them so we could buy them at the other store, and Salmon Market ended up price matching which means this item was never worth anywhere near that price and they absolutely knew that. This left a sour taste in our mouths and I suggest you shop around 2-3 other stores before buying anything there.

Let's start with the first point since that's what you're here for: The batter on the fish and chips is well-fried but bland. The dungeness crab is nothing to call home about. Save your money and buy crab from Costco or across the street--unless you want to spend $50 for 1lb of mediocre crab. The fries and salmon chowder are honestly the best part as other reviews have indicated. But everything is absurdly overpriced and nothing special. The latter point is what drove my rating from a 3 to a 1. Seating is self-serve. Tables are packed inside, so naturally after ordering food, we find available seating at the tables in front of the restaurant. 25 minutes later, a young girl with blonde hair brings out part of our order along with a snarky comment, "Next time, can you guys let us know if you're going to sit outside." Excuse me? Next time, why don't you tell me where I should sit if the tables DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF your restaurant are not an area you check when serving food, despite there being a sign about seating literally next to those tables? Then a second girl with red hair comes out and adds, "You guys can't drink alcohol outside." We apologize and explain that we didn't know. "Well there are signs everywhere." Okay. There are literally NO signs that say that (I challenge you to take a look through all the atmosphere photos from other reviewers and find one with the sign about 1. "notifying the staff you'll be sitting outside" and 2. "not bringing alcohol to the tables in the front") EXCEPT at the back patio of the restaurant... which no one would see if they're sitting inside or in front. Of course, we still respect the restaurant rules and move our stuff to their back porch "seating" (5 chairs propped against a fence with a 4-inch ledge) and finish dining. Upon leaving, we were met with glaring stares from the 2 girls behind the counter. Absolutely unacceptable behavior from a highly rated restaurant. Here's a tip for the waiters: if your customers make a mistake, kindly redirect them rather than assuming they did it with malicious intentions. And don't double down on your accusations if the customer apologizes. Here's a tip for cruisers to get better food for better value: try the fish and chips or fish tacos in Juneau at Deckhand Dave (MUCH tastier and MUCH cheaper at $21 for Halibut fish and chips), and eat at other local restaurants in Ketchikan instead.
