Service is always ok I'm never 100% happy the manger I'm assuming is always angry and unprofessional And it seems like. The nail tech asked me to pay before my service which is fine sometimes but it seemed like for another reason i like to pay after tht way I can include a tip especially if I'm satisfied but she couldn't do the simplest things and said she doesn't have a nail art brush what nail salon doesn't have a nail art brushes I keep giving them chances and everytime they show me why they are unprofessional not all but a great deal of them are. I felt like she was lying to me. I've been going here since I moved in the area and I still get poor service don't even get a hello or goodbye when I enter or leave but I hear it loud and clear for others. Not very happy. My nail tech barely paid attention to my nails because he was too busy watching the soccer game. My middle fingers polish is bubbly and a piece of black dust was caught between layers it looks like. The dark purple polish needed another layer. The shape is ok, but the gel overlay is super thick which I also don't prefer. The paint is also already chipping and I haven't even used my hands for anything. If the polish had been done better I would give three stars, but the bad paint job accompanied by the staff ignoring me rates this two stars. Probably won't go back, sadly. read more

I went to modern nails and got a gel overlay by Nina for my college graduation. Was so excited by the final result and not even a week later, one of my nails is broken and ALL of them have polish peeling off of them. Complete waste of $30. Never again will I spend my money there again. read more

Really hit or miss here, depending on the technician. I had 2 different great manicurists and 1 not so great tech on back to back visits. I left both of the last 2 times (with the same lady) feeling like I could have done better myself. I always have difficulty communicating with the techs and the place is not super clean and is also fairly cluttered. With the techs that were great- I had pristine no-chip nails that lasted a month. With the tech that wasn't good, this last time, I asked for a simple semi-glitter procedure and she couldn't do it, tried several times and I asked if someone else could do it, one other lady came over and stood there and didn't do anything or help, I couldn't communicate with either of them. I had a picture also. I opted to just have no glitter and then all the glitter was not removed before the top coat was put on. The manicure was messy and I asked her to clean up the edges and she must have thought I meant my cuticles so she cut more of my cuticles and ended up making me bleed and then putting a topical ointment into my cut without asking for my permission. So, I'm left with a crappy holiday manicure and a cut on my finger. read more

Walked into modern nails as a party of four and were greeted nicely, but we ended up waiting to be taken. We waited and continued to ask when one of the people in our party was going to be taken care of, and they never got to her. Other women who walked in after us and without appointments continued to be addressed before our whole party. We ended up leaving very unhappy with incomplete jobs. I was not rushed and they did an awesome job repairing my damaged nails, that I thought I would have to start all over again, because of another nail salons mistakes (this would have cost me so much money). I come to Modern Nails when because I work nearby. The service is always great. I usually get no chip manicures that seem to last a very long time after I leave there. The 5 min massage is nice too while my nails set. Prices are the same as everywhere else. I had one guy who did my nails today and was really polite and filed my nails to perfection! I was excited to check this place out because of the positive yelp reviews. However, today I called at 3:30 pm and the woman who answered said they'd be open until 5 pm. I came in at 4 pm, the door was open, and no one was on there. The two men who I assume own the place then popped out and just said "we're closed" and then I explained that someone told me on the phone that it would be open until 5 pm and his response was "and now we're not". If you want fast then come here. I had an hour to kill and needed a pedi asap. So I just stopped in here. No scrub or hot towels, decent foot rub, and super fast trim and a rough buff and such. I walked into Modern Nails yesterday and asked to have Tammy do my nails. She was working with another customer; therefore I waited 30 minutes for her to finish. Another customer walked in and then I was told by Tammy that she couldn't do me and someone else would have to do my nails. I asked her why would she have me wait 30 minutes for her, and then to be told that she couldn't do my nails, when I specifically ask for her when I walked in. All she said was, the the other person had an appointment. If The other customer had an appointment, why wasn't i told when I walked in and specifically asked for her. I waited 30 minutes for nothing. I walked out and went to another nail shop! I've been going to Modern Nails for over 3 years! I WILL never go back their again! Poor Customer Service! read more

I would like to give a 4 star rating-usually they give a good mani/pedi and massage. However, my experience there is not particularly pleasant at times-I feel like an object instead of a person, rushed, pretty much ignored while technicians chat together in another language. I had a manicure recently and the technician was on the phone almost the whole time. I checked with her that my nails were dry after 20 min. at 5 pm.They were also smooth. However there were bubbles and dings on 5 nails a few hours later because the polish was applied too thick (the only time this ever happened was with the same tech). I called and was graciously offered a redo and I went in the next day. The tech was reasonably pleasant and was very careful and attentive this time, but repeatedly blamed me for the bubble and dings in my nails, saying I must have knocked them on something while I was drying them which was simply not true and I told her each time, so I don't think she learned anything about staying off the phone while she works. Although I like the job they do and the price, it's not the pleasant pampering experience I used to get there in the past. So maybe I have to pay more to go somewhere else, I'm thinking... If my complaints wouldn't bother you, then by all means, go there. You'll get a good mani/pedi at a good price, but not always a friendly attentive feeling. read more

I've been coming here for emergency manicures and fill-ins for years, and about 90% of the time I leave completely unhappy. The service is either completely wonderful or absolutely atrocious and it all depends on their mood and their predetermined judgements about you they will make the second you walk through the door. After a minor infection in my finger that started here I vowed I wouldn't return, but I needed to find a place that was open a bit later on Sundays and returned about a year later. This last time I went in they completely rushed and ground my nails down until they bled. They were uneven and upon having the nails removed at another salon they found that there wasn't much left of my original nails but a thin peeling later. I'm still in a lot of pain and my nails are slowly healing. I just can't believe the carelessness. I won't be coming back. And BEWARE of their dirty tools. I was overwhelmed by the fumes and for that reason alone I would not go back. I have been a client at Modern Nails for a few years now. The owner is very friendly and always remembers my little daughter's name, who generally comes with me to get her nails painted too! I always make an app't ahead of time so that I can get a certain woman who does a stellar job on my pedicures and knows how to cut the sides of my nails down to make the pain go away. My only complaint is that they need to spruce the space up a bit, at least with a nice paint job. read more

I've just moved here from another city and my girlfriend had recommended this shop to me. It's at a convenient location with a lot of parking. The store is very clean and the fumes wasn't strong at all. The customer service here is wonderful, very attentive. My manicure and pedicure was absoultlely wonderful!! I started coming to Modern Nails because it's literally a block down from my home. I've been there about 4 times. Each time, the job is very rushed and the outcome (mani/pedi) usually just an ok job. But like I said, was only coming here for location. (Best nail salon is LV Nails 501 Madison in Oak Park.) I went to Modern Nails on Wednesday for a fill-in and I tip very well. Thursday, I looked down at my hand, and my nail was completely broken off... I didn't hit it on anything, it was just broken. Friday, I went back to Modern Nails to get that one nail repaired. I told them how I was just there on Wednesday. They told me that I had to wait after everyone's mani/pedi and it would likely take an hour. They didn't seem to care that my nail broke a day later nor were they very welcoming. If you really care how your nails look, go to LV nails in Oak Park and ask for Lilly or Kim. Mary also seems to do a decent job. Don't go to Modern Nails. Anyways, went somewhere else to get it repaired and it only took 10 mins (including dry time). read more
