Very pleasant and peaceful salon - nice chairs, wooden tables, oversized comfy armchairs w/ pillows for your pedicure, and artwork from local artists on the wall. There's even complimentary tea, coffee and water. And most importantly, Wendy did a great job on the mani/pedi; nice massage, too. The only downside was no massage chairs (love those), and just portable plastic tub for pedicure. But, I liked the music playing, and it was a very relaxing experience - would definitely come back. Well I made the appointment with Wendy and she was Farley nice and all but her skills at being a manicurist was not great at all. I had nail polish all over the edges that she tried getting off with her finger it was kind of painful when she dogged her nails to get the nail polish off. I sadly won't be returning here. $19 "Shilac" manicure from Groupon? That's exactly what I got, a shit-lac manicure instead of a shellac manicure. I'm fine that the selection is small, doesn't bother me. What does bother me is that Colleen trimmed my nails unevenly, and clipped but not filed nor buffed them. I'm also bothered that she basically sanded down my nails so they were completely rough when she was doing the manicure. And there was nothing manicure or spa like during this process. It felt like as though I was playing dress up with my little sister. So the manicure itself, first because my names were sanded down, the polish did not look smooth on. Second, the polish was so poorly painted on that the layers were not even. The polish also did not cover my entire nail, and when it did, it was painted onto my fingered and NOT cleaned up. Lastly, I can do a better french tip on myself! They were totally uneven and wavy. She didn't clean it up with a brush like all the other salons I've been to. I've had other shellac manicures so I know what the process should be like. I would NOT recommend this place. I bought a $24 ReaderCity cert for a $55 "Spa grade mani/pedi with massage and scrub" and went in today to redeem it. I agree with Sherry H.'s review that Colleen is nice (also the salon is cute and there is plenty of free street parking) but the mani/pedi I received today was the worst I have ever had. She did use a scrub during the pedicure but there was no massage on my hands or feet. I felt rushed the entire time (even though I had an appointment) and felt guilty asking her to completely remove the dark polish from my toes before applying the light pink polish I had selected. Also my cuticles were only pushed back, not trimmed. No cleanup of the edges of my nails after they were painted. All in all, I was able to fix my mani at home by trimming up my cuticles but the pedicure was so poor I went from Salon 2141 directly to CT Nails on 5th (where I usually go) to fix my toes ($10 for a standard pedicure with 5 minutes of massage--bargain!). Again, I felt like I couldn't say anything during my treatment because Colleen was saying how she was going to stop doing Groupon type deals because she doesn't make any money from them. I had my first shellac manicure with Colleen. I had made an appointment somewhere else and the lady never showed up. I had to get my nails done that day as I was heading out of town for my Dad's retirement party the next day. I found her Groupon online and called to see if she could take me. She gave me a time to come in within a couple of hours and told me not to bother buying the Groupon she'd just charge me the same price. Needless to say I wasted my time and money. I wanted a French mani and she bushed down with the white then never cleaned up the nails so they were uneven and not smooth on the bottom. She then globbed on the top coat so there were bubbles. The shellac came off within 3 days. Additionally she spent 90% of the time on her cell phone saying she was stuck with a client (me) and she'd be there soon, so she was obviously in a rush. The other 10% of the time she complained about her last client who was telling her what she wanted with her nails and how to fix the manicure. She kept saying she knew what she was doing and knew how to make a manicure look good. Ummm obviously not. Great that she got me in on short notice but I would have rather gone somewhere else for the crappy service. Oh and she tried to charge me full price and I had to reminder her about the Groupon. It took me a while before I tried shellac manicures again and I def went somewhere else the next time!! read more

This review is only for threading w/ Jenna @ Salon 2141 which is in Ocean Beach near Point Loma HS. I tried getting my eyebrows waxed once and a layer of my skin was removed so I decided to never do it again! About a year ago, I heard about threading, an all natural alternative to waxing, and thought I'd give it a try. It's perfect for people with sensitive skin. It is not painful, she makes my eyebrows look really natural and clean, it only takes about 5 minutes and it costs 20 bucks. My skin doesn't get red or irritated at all. I am going to get a facial/threading with her next time so I'll be writing an update in about a week. *update: The facial was so relaxing. I loved the aromatherapy products she used. Jenna massages your face, neck and feet. She takes her time and makes your feel special. The threading was included in the cost of the facial so that was an added bonus! read more

She has a portable home like spa that is plugged in and just vibrates, and her chair is a hair heater chair for rollers, not pedicure chair like normal shops. -She is not able to do any designs, unless you want shitty polka dots that is done with a pencil. -My nails are bumpy, nail polish all over my cuticles, nail polish all over my skin, and polish is not covering my entire nail. -Ohhh..and the foot rub... there is not one. - She does not have really any colors to choose from. Just returned from a Shellac Mani with Colleen and loved it! She was helpful in choosing a color, complimentary and very friendly without being over talkative. She also did a wonderful job on my nails and was really fast - which I love. Definitely one of the better Shellac experiences in San Diego so far. The salon itself is small, quiet and very relaxing. I found Jenna and Salon 2141 on Yelp as I was searching for a place to get my eyebrows threaded - no waxing for me, threading is an amazing technique I had done several times when I lived in Los Angeles and I was in desperate need of a cleanup. I saw on Jenna's website that an eyebrow waxing came with the facial. I love facials and wanted to pamper myself a bit, so I signed up - hoping the threading could sub for the waxing (it does). I also scheduled a bikini wax. The shop in Point Loma is not as nice as many other places I've been to, but the room Jenna uses is done nicely. The only thing I have to say is I hope the smock she provides is washed between customers, since the room was pretty hot that day and I'm sure I got a bit sweaty (sorry - too much information). Jenna is a nice woman and shared she has been an esthetician for many years. The bikini wax was super quick and she did a fine job, although I was a bit red for several days. Expect to spend a long time on the facial - which is wonderful! Jenna masaged my feet TWICE and did a nice face and shoulder massage too. And the mask at the end of the facial process was the absolute best I'd ever had - it was like having a soothing ice pack underneath the hardening mask, that always stays a bit liquidy and soft and cools your face the whole time - fantastic. And the products smelled nice too. The eyebrow threading was perfect - it took a bit of time, but my eyebrows looked really nice and there was no redness or swelling at all. I've tried waxing, electrolysis, laser, tweezing and paid lots of money for it, but never got my eyebrows the way I wanted them. But Jenna was amazing, I trusted the reviews on yelp about her and tried out the threading technique. She did a great job, asked me what I wanted and didn't get all hair removal happy. She shaped them perfectly, it didn't even hurt. Bottom line.... Jenna kicks ass. She did a great job and I highly recommend her. I will be using her for as long as I live in SD. Nice and cozy local salon. Not your typical busy spot with spa chairs, but more like a visit to someone's living room. Very disappointing manicure. Cant speak for all the nail technicians, but I have polish on my skin, polish missing on corners of some nails, and gel hanging off others. As she was doing them, I mentioned to her in casual conversation that those were some of my pet peeves, and at one point even asked her to clean a large glob of polish that was on my finger...you'd like she'd take the hint and check the rest? Salon 2141 is awesome! I was holding off on getting pedicures since I moved SD from NYC b/c they're cheaper on the east coast but as always you get what you pay for! My experience at Salon 2141 was top notch, but far from stuffy. It felt like someone came into my home and did my pedicure for me. It was lovely. The pedicure set up is like a cozy living room, several lazy boy chairs in a row and the ladies sit at your feet with their portable set ups. They have lots of colors to choose from-all OPI. The ladies are super sweet and welcoming, offering coffee and water, getting to know you, and including everyone in the conversation. Colleen was great! Very courteous, professional, and warm. She did a good job on my mani and pedi and offered me some great tips when I asked how I can thicken up my nails. I didn't feel pressured to purchase any additional services other than what I made an appointment for which was great. The price is a more than I'm used to paying, but for the service is it totally worth it! read more

The salon has a nice comfortable waiting area with recent magazines & nice padded chairs. Right next to it there is a coffee area which is put together very well. The pedicure area has these beautifully comfortable armchairs with soft pillows. the manicure tables have beautiful tops that look like marble and the tables & drawers are wood with pretty curves and accents. You can tell that they put a lot of thought into the design and the comfortable atmosphere that the salon has. Wendy did my manicure and I will definitely be going back to her. She is a perfectionist which I think is an excellent quality in a nail technician. She was also very nice and a good conversationalist. The place was easy to find and very small but cozy. Nice decor and big comfy sofa chairs to sit with magazines. Overall I was very satisfied with Wendy's work and kindness, she even said next time I call for my appointment I can receive the same Groupon price of $25 compared to the original $55 without buying the Groupon. This review is for the fabulous Colleen. I have had my nails done many times, by many people and have never returned to one place until now. Colleen gives a great manicure and her shellac stayed flawless on my nails for two straight weeks. You can get a manicure anywhere, but you cannot find people like the women that work at Salon 2141 anywhere! The salon is very relaxing and everyone is super friendly, including the other clientele. I have to say I really enjoy Colleen. The first time I went I decided I needed a little pampering after a very sad event in my life. Colleen was compassionate and listened to my story and opened up to me as well. I enjoy coming to the salon and chatting with her during my time there. It reminds me of the old days where salons were not only a place for beauty but a place for chatting and friendship (Steel Magnolias, anyone? Well, without the southern accents at least). I thought I'd try out a new nail salon close to my house so I read the reviews on here before I went to get a mani and pedi. I thought maybe people were just being a little dramatic about the quality of this place because I've been to tons of nail salons never had a really bad job. BIG MISTAKE...Always trust Yelp! It was the fastest Shellac mani I've ever had! Which is probably why it was uneven, spots missed, paint on my skin, and the top coat didn't even cover my entire nail lots of places! Usually a good mani takes 20-30 minutes. She was finished in less than 15 minutes. My pedicure paint job was fine but really that's all to brag about. I did not like manicure chairs it was like a sofa chair with a portable foot soaker thing. I was also questioning the sanitation of the supplies used like another Yelper on here. Don't expect any pampering here, soaking time is minimal, massages 30 seconds tops, and no scrubbing included! My Shellac Mani peeled within 2 hours of me leaving. The lady was sweet and fixed it for me when I called and went back. She said it must of been because some of the paint got on my skin- which I believe her on that! My other nails started peeling the next day. Needless to say I did not go back to get those fixed. Instead I went to my normal nail place and got a legit Shellac Mani that has been going strong over a week which is what you should expect! Colleen was super awesome. The place was clean and inviting, cute and location was easy to get to. She was nice to talk to and friendly. Professional and offered good advice on colors and nail care. I will absolutely be back here in the future! In addition, she was very accomodating. I had to leave for vacation the day she did my nails and was willing to take me early on a Saturday. It was relaxing and efficient. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the shellac was a little uneven once completed. i got the mani/pedi groupon deal with colleen. this was such a waste of money. i paid extra for french polish on my hands and i really should have listened to the other reviewers. i guess i hoped she would have changed her technique by now. she does not clean up the line at all with acetone. all my lines are a different thickness, all are crooked, and my index fingers have a severe curve while all the other nails are flat. i asked for oval shaping and only my left middle finger and thumb got that. all the others are straight across. the "spa pedicure" is one of those little vibrating foot buckets while you sit in an arm chair. she barely scraped my heels, and i felt like i just got this weird mix of off-brand, dollar store type lotions and scrubs. there was pretty much no massage associated with the pedicure, which i always look forward to. colleen is nice, she tried to be very talkative, even though i just wanted to relax. she did take three phone calls during the course of my appointment, which i thought was a little weird. overall, i feel like i crashed a 12 year old's sleepover and let them give me a mani/pedi. i won't ever be going back. read more

i'm going to be completely honest here with my shellac experience with colleen. i've been getting french manicures for 8 years and this was the WORST french manicure i've ever had. because it was shellac, it will stay on for 2-3 wks, making this even worse! 1. she's very forgetful (mistaken that i wanted a mani-pedi, while drying my first coat- asked me how long it's been in there - uh, isn't that your job to keep track). 2. the nail line for the french tip was super sloppy and crooked. (great manicurists will use a brush to clean up the line before putting on the clear coat. she didn't show it to me before putting on the 2nd coat to dry- which sealed in this crappy paint job). 3. i showed her my groupon. she returned with some money change then questioned whether i just showed her a groupon or if i actually bought it. (WTF). 4. when i asked her if there was any way to fix the french tip line, she was annoyed. then she said to me "i've done millions of french manicures and this is the first time i've heard a complaint". i guess she never reads her yelp reviews. she did her best to fix the job, by filing my nails down...still looked blah...the reality is: no matter how nice you are, if you're not good at french manicures and no matter how to try to fix it, the french manicure still gonna suck. i'm never going back here again. read more

I went to Colleen for a French Shellac mani using a KGB deal, but was really disappointed in the quality of how the shellac looked. She doesn't seem to have much practice doing french manicures and I don't think she had the correct polish for it either. It turned out so terrible and crooked that I got the first appointment I could find in SD that was Shellac certified. Although I wasn't satisfied with how my nails looked, Colleen is super sweet and really tries to accommodate, which is why I gave two stars for the effort. I found a groupon to get a shellac mani with Colleen. It was worse than when I give myself a French manicure. She didn't do much filing and she didn't cover my whole nail with the gel. She doesn't use a brush to make the white line straight, when I made a comment about how I had never seen anyone not use a brush she just said "yeah I don't do that". I would say she may want to learn how because this is the worst Job i have ever seen! My cuticles were barely pushed back so I needed a fill in a week. She is nice and friendly but I would honestly prefer someone who doesn't speak English or speak to me at all and does a great job. Went to Jenna for my very first full face threading and it was great! She was fast and comforting and I love how she removed all my tiny facial hairs. A million times better than waxing...my eyebrows look cleaner and i don't see a single upper lip hair. Full face threading costs $50.00.
