This was my go to for nails for the longest time. I literally would travel and go out of my way to get my nails done here. I didn't live super close by, about 20 min. The first time I came here it was just ok. But I almost give most places a couple tries and decide if I will become a regular there. I became a consistent customer for several years here! I would always go to Tina since she knew I liked doing designs on my nails and I loved how they would turn out. Tina would not always be there and then Cathy became my regular go to girl. She was always so patient with me in my crazy designs. I must say my favorites were my cherry blossom nails and my bloody Halloween nails! I have since moved on from Deva nails but would recommend this shop to anyone. They accept walk-ins and appointments and you hardly ever had to wait long. The shop is clean and spacious so you don't feel crowded or have someone on every side and corner of you. They also have a punch card to get a free service! I would've given 5 stars here but one time Tina was working on my nails and then took a call. Shortly after one of her regular customers came in and Tina passed me off to a newbie. This lady walked in so thankful that Tina was able to take her at last minute. I was her regular for the longest time and then in the middle of my manicure she went to the person who had just called! Left me with a girl who I didn't know and couldn't do what I wanted. (Major eye roll!) That just left a bad taste... and Cathy is no longer here either! :( read more

Tina who did my nails was very rude, she would get get annoyed when I would ask her to change something. I got french tips, and they were see through and the french tip was way to thick, even after I asked her to change it multiple times. I received a Groupon for a regular manicure and pedicure at Deva; Tina who did my services was rude, no hello, frown on her face the entire 30 minutes, it felt awkward and yes that's 30 minutes total for both services; regular polishes are old and sticky, Tina used pliers to open the bottles, the massage chair did not work, asked Tina she said it's probably broken, no offer to change chairs, etc. In a run down strip mall, I would not recommend this salon, nor will I be back! read more

I use Groupon as a way to try local businesses at when I'm traveling. If I find a place that I love, I then I'm open to paying full price, however if they are not great I don't feel as bad due to the price cut for the Groupon item. That is how I found this salon. I called the salon to see if they would be able to accommodate me for the day and time that I wanted before I bought my Groupon. This is because I have been caught in the past buying a Groupon for a place and them being booked out for an advance and then having to go through the hassle of returning my Groupon. Thankfully they did have the day and time that I needed for my mani-pedi so I went ahead and bought the Groupon. Later, my nail technician called me directly and it was very difficult to understand what she was saying due to her thick accent. What I thought she said was that I must have the Groupon coupon in order to get the Groupon price, and I told her I understood. The location is in a pretty rundown strip mall. I arrived early and the whole area in front of the salon was littered with trash. Not a good first impression, however I had already committed to this appointment so I went ahead and gave it a try. My technician showed me to a chair and I picked my colors out. Through the mani-pedi itself, my nail technician asked me some very weird and personal questions. I felt like they were more invasive than the average small talk/get to know you that most people do. She even made some weird comments about my wedding ring and marital status, which I thought was very intrusive and not something that I wanted to talk about with a complete stranger. Once the shellac manicure and regular pedicure were done, I followed her to the checkout table. I handed her the Groupon and she immediately bristled at me. She told me "I told you NOT to buy the Groupon" to which I responded "I'm so sorry, I thought what you said was that I HAD to buy the Groupon." This went back and forth for a bit as it got more and more heated. She then told me that she was going to charge me an additional $25 for the shellac upgrade, and their website clearly states that an upgrade from a manicure or pedicure for shellac is only $15. I told her this, and she was mad that I had done my research and called her on it. I told her that I would not pay $25 for something that her website says is 15. I think she was just upset that I bought the Groupon at discount and then she was trying to make up the funds by charging me more which I thought was very shady. After paying I left quickly after such a negative interaction. I didn't even look at my nails to see how they looked. My pedicure was a glittery green blue, and she was so hasty with doing the edges, that she did not thoroughly clean the skin, which meant the paint stained my skin, making it look super cheap and sloppy. The shellac on my fingernails was also sloppy, and within just days the shellac was cracking. Overall a very dismal experience. Bad service, bad product, bad location, and no attention to detail that would warrant paying a higher price than the discounted rate on Groupon. I would not return even for the Groupon price, and I recommend that other people go elsewhere as well. There are so many nail salons in southern California, there's no redeeming reason to go here. read more

My mani pedi turned out great, and they paid great attention to my cuticles, which were apparently grown out and dry. Worst experience ever. My husband gifted me a Groupon for a mani/ pedi. I called and made an appointment and asked what the upgrade would be for acrylics. Over the phone that lady said $30. When I came in and mentioned the Groupon she asked why I bought the Groupon and that I should just pay her directly. I said it was a gift and again asked how much it would be for acrylics. She said 55. She was the only one there and I had made an appointment for my mom and I. We were there for almost 3 hours. These were the nails she did. I came back inside after taking a closer look at them and she still tried to charge me $45 for them even when I had the Groupon. I told her I did not like the nails. She started getting mad and started yelling. Told me she had other clients and work to do. I was explaining to her that the lines were not even straight and there was air bubbles in the nails and she didn't want to listen. While she was doing the nails I kept on telling her what I wanted and she was even telling me no and saying it wouldn't look good. When I told her I didn't feel comfortable paying for these she still tried to charge me more than what she had said on the phone. And when I confronted her about that she said those were old prices. She knows her polish (and has an amazing array of colors, especially in gel), she takes her time making sure your nails look perfect, she's friendly and open to creating fun nail designs. I'm glad this place is getting such good reviews, because it's an example of not judging a book by its cover. Deva is in this incredibly seedy Bay Park strip mall, nestled between Champ's Lounge, a dive bar that's open for your convenience at 9 AM (?!?), and the Sandwich Emporium. Even then, you have to strain to see Deva's storefront (see attached pic). Once you get inside, though, it's an open, clean space with a nice view of a wooded canyon, looking west. There are mani/pedi, manicure, and haircut stations, all scrupulously clean. I came in very early, with a Groupon. My mistake: ***you need to tell them when you make the appointment that you have a Groupon ***, so word to the wise there. They took me anyway, graciously, and the head manicurist worked on me herself. She did an excellent job (I like my nails short, and they were cut beautifully), and I was out in about an hour. Side note: I really don't understand the recent bad reviews on here. A bit of unsolicited advice: be kind to your manicurist. She's a person, not a mani/pedi robot. Ask her where she's from. Compliment her on her makeup, or a bit of jewelry, or maybe the blouse she's wearing. See if you have any common interests: food is always a good topic, and I imagine you'll get some great tips on Southeast Asian cooking. Also, if you book at a high-volume time, yes, maybe you'll have to wait a little bit. I was impressed that (in Lauren W's review), the salon got two unexpected customers and still had the client (who left a bad review) in a chair with her service starting within 15 minutes. Have we really become such a nation of me-me-me whiners that a 15-minute delay merits your trashing the place with a bad review? Idea: try booking your service in the morning. You must have a free morning at some point in your week or month. You'll get seen immediately. I've been here twice, have taken the time to talk to my manicurist instead of scrolling through my smartphone like some ADHD social-media addict, and I've always gotten great service. These are lovely, professional, hard-working women who spend their entire day bent over feet, and who give endless pedis with great professionalism and great service. I came here today with 2 other friends due to the groupons we purchased. I made an appointment ahead of time but when we arrived there were only 2 ladies working. There was a couple already there in the middle of getting mani/pedis done so we had to wait a little while to be seen. I sat down in the chair first to wait for my pedi and right as my friend was setting her stuff down, the manicurist (Tina?) called her over to the mani station to get it done first. After she was done with her, she came over to where I was sitting to start on my manicure. The second lady came over at about the same time and started on my pedi, leaving my third friend sitting in the chair for a good 45 minutes before anyone even looked at her nails. After filing my nails and cleaning the cuticles on one hand, she left to go do a mani on the woman who had been getting her nails done when we arrived but had stepped outside to smoke or something. When she came back, I asked her to fix my nail shape because I asked her for almond but she gave me stilettos. She was pretty reluctant, telling me that this is what I had asked for. Then I asked her to finish trimming the cuticles on my other hand and she tried to argue with me, telling me she already did. After I insisted that she only pushed it back but didn't trim it, she reluctantly went to work and she trimmed off a lot. So much in fact that my thumb started BLEEDING and she didn't even apologize!!! She just tried to pretend it didn't happen and put antiseptic or something on it. I think it's pretty rude that she didn't acknowledge the fact that she injured me. The mani she gave me after that was the worst manicure I've ever had in my life. 8 out of the 10 nails have very visible bubbles on them and on the thumb that she cut up, she didn't even paint the top coat evenly so there is a line of demarcation along the entire side where the paint is missing. My friends also had bubbles in their manicures, but way less than mine. When one of my friends was getting her mani done, Tina apparently complained to her that groupons were terrible because the business was getting half of what it should and this made my friend extremely uncomfortable sitting there and listening to her rant. The entire time we were there Tina looked pretty mad/scary and made it seem like we were bothering her with our business. She treated us like "groupon customers" and I feel like she was annoyed that we were wasting her time or something. The only time I saw her smile was at the end when we (reluctantly) tipped her. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because the pedicures we received from the second technician were pretty good. She was friendly and spent a good amount of time on us, instead of rushing through the process. This place was absolutely terrible and the three of us spent a good 10 minutes in the parking lot examining our nails and talking about what a bad experience we all had. I have no idea why this place has such good ratings??? I was excited when I found out Tina was there due to all her good reviews, but the woman I met did not match who I read about. The whole point of groupon is trying new places, and if you like them you could potentially become a regular. I would never come back to this salon and I would tell friends to avoid this place in the future. Cathy was FANTASTIC! I found this place on Groupon and I'm so glad I did! Cathy was so sweet and spent a lot of time getting my nails perfect! I feel like nail salons always rush you in and out, but Cathy actually spent time fixing everything and making it perfect. Came here thanks to yelp and purchased a nice groupon deal (mani/pedi $22). I only got a pedicure this round since my nails were already done. Reviewers recommended Tina, but I went with Linda (she speaks little English but is very kind). She turned out to be very thorough and diligent and I was pleased with the results. Some reviewers mentioned they needed a wider selection of polishes. I think they got em because I had many to choose from; both name and off-brand. Like others mentioned, the exterior looks a little rough, but the interior is updated and spacious. I came in on a Friday evening as a walk-in and was was pleasantly surprised to find only another person wrapping up. I was seated and serviced right away. Another 2 ladies showed up and were seated as well. There were only 3 people working at the time. If they're regularly short-staffed like others say, it may be pointless to schedule an appointment, so I'll likely just keep walking in, I don't know. If the waits long but you have the time, grab a sandwich at the deli next door? I was pleased with the service. The commute was easy and the prices were really reasonable. I am hesitant to write this review, because the ladies were very personable and friendly. I made an appointment for this past Friday after seeing all the great Yelp reviews. My appointment was for 5:30, which is the latest appointment you can make. I made sure I requested either Wendy or Kimmy (as many Yelpers have indicated that they do a great job.) Wendy did my shellac mani. After all was said and done, I have had other places do a better job on my nails and cleaning up my cuticles. Kimmy did my toes. She was also sweet, but I noticed that one of my toes was bleeding after. I really felt that they were rushing on both my hands and my feet. It was obvious that they were in a hurry to leave. I feel I would have had a better experience during the weekend or after they first open. I would not recommend walking in or making an appointment when they are about to close! I am disappointed in my experience and I'm hoping this was just an off day for them. I am happy with how the color on my toes came out, but I have never bled from a pedicure before. I have definitely experienced better and I will probably not be back here. It was my second time going to this nail salon today. I wasn't truly impressed with my first visit. But this time, Tina helped me and she did amazing! I liked the fact that although they seemed a little understaffed today (a customer had to wait for the next available attendant), she didn't rush doing my nails. I went in for a gel manicure and Tina was pretty generous with the polishes. She put two base coats, three layers of the actual color and two top coats! I've been in other nail salons and some of them are a little stingy with their supplies! Yikes! Aside from that, she was also very charismatic and friendly. So that was a major plus. Just a heads up, there are two ways to save money for your visit. #1) They have a stamp card. Your seventh manicure is free! #2) They are on Groupon. Called the day before to make an appointment and when I showed up it was like I was barely acknowledged and the fact that I had an appointment didn't even matter at all... had to wait 30+ minutes for them to finish other people's pedicures before anyone even got started on mine. Besides still waiting even though I had an appointment, the quality of work they do is horrible. I could have done a better job doing my nails myself at home!!! Barely filed my nails and then left jagged edges, and then didn't clean up nail polish that got on my cuticles/skin. Yesterday I went to get a mani/pedi at Deva, and service was great! Tina, did my shellac mani and I love it, she is quick and does a great job. (Also they have a Groupon deal) Pedicure was really great as well. They really take those calluses away , the best part is the foot massage. They also provided me a punch card for every 6 pedicures you get the 7th free. I will definitely come back. read more

Just visiting Deva Nail Salon for the first time and I want to say I'm impressed! I've lived in the area for 8 years and I wish I would've come here sooner. Clean, workers are friendly, and the place is big inside! Nice massage chairs for pedicures as well. Prices are very reasonable as a spa pedicure with callus remover is $25. My new nail spot in San Diego! At the recommendation of a friend, I made an appointment with Tina, and I can say that I'll be doing the same every few weeks from now on! She really took the time to make sure she understood what I wanted and that I left happy. The space isn't much to look at from the outside, but it's a much larger pleasant salon on the inside. I loved my pedi! and my nails looked great! the only downside is that my friend and I made the appointment together but something happened and there was only Tina to take care of us, but we had time so it didn't really matter, plus she really did a great job. fun fact: we noticed that te salon had a noticeably older crowd. i think we were the only patrons below 50! read more

My first experience was heavenly, so I went back. So many things went wrong that second visit! I waited ten minutes to be seated in one of the massage chairs, then waited another fifteen minutes there before the nail technician came over. I was in a rush and had said so when I first came in, so while I agreed to the first ten minutes, I'd have walked if I'd been told the wait was actually close to half an hour. The nail tech was bent on punishing me for some apparent evil I'd done in a past life. The callus treatment was unlike any pain my feet have ever known. The heels and balls went relatively ignored, while the tech dug the filing board into the soft, tender flesh of my feet. I'd been to the salon less than a month earlier, so I was shocked and horrified at the abuse I suffered at this girl's hands. Pushing back my cuticles started will enough but quickly progressed to cutting the skin so much that blood surfaced twice. The torture to my feet was finally halted, and my fingers received several coats of beautiful robin's egg blue polish. I asked how long they would take to dry, and the tech assured me only ten minutes. Twenty minutes later, as I finally hobbled out with gorgeous, painted nails and two very thin eyebrows, I reached into my purse for payment and promptly smudged the polish on three nails. I didn't have time for the salon to fix them. I had thirty minutes to dress for and drive to a wedding. I removed the polish in the car on the drive over. Stick with Rose Nails for brow waxing. They'll do it in under five minutes, and you'll look fabulous. Get your nails done at Deva. But. Only. With. Wendy! Five stars for my first review. One star for my second experience.
