For my first appointment in June 2024, I scheduled in person about a week ahead. Doris looked at my hair, quoted me a price, and I booked. At the end of that appointment, however, she suddenly charged me more, saying my hair was long and I had a lot of locs--even though she had already seen my hair when giving me the original quote. My second appointment in June 2025 went smoothly, with no pricing issues. At my third appointment in August 2025, the same situation happened again. Despite booking in person before and being quoted a price after Doris looked at my hair, I was told after the service that it would cost more. After some back and forth--where I reminded her she had just recently quoted me in person--she eventually honored the original price. While the work itself was fine, I can't overlook this pattern of quoting one price and then changing it after services are completed. That's not a trustworthy way to do business, and it will prevent me from returning.

BOOKT (with a T) and with a little yelp search, I found Beautique. I booked online Thursday and was lucky to get an appointment the next day. The decor is modern. I love their approach to a very clean and sanitized place. Your temperature is taken once you walk in and there's sanitizer throughout the salon. The staff is super kind and friendly. I loved the way my pedicure came out. Definitely 5 stars there but my manicure.. was a nah son for me. It seemed a tad bit sloppy as a few parts of my nail wasn't coated in polish. Nonetheless, I'll return for a pedicure!

I had a great experience today at Salon 718! I've been to their Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill locations for blowouts in the past but never for color. I heard that Sunshine was an awesome colorist so I booked an appointment with her at their Fort Greene location based on what worked for my schedule. I was greeted immediately after walking in and offered a beverage which was a nice touch. Shortly after I sat in Sunshine's chair and she asked me about my hair history (the colors I've had in the past, last time my hair was colored, etc.) She explained that knowing the backstory will help her get a better understanding of the chemicals that have touched my hair and how to craft a formula specific to my hair needs. No stylist has ever asked me such detailed questions before which made me feel like I was in great hands! I ended up having a single process with partial low-lights to help create dimension. The color application was so quick and the dye she used did not have that awful chemical smell that I've experienced in the past. Alex washed my hair and she and Sunshine talked to me about the benefits of having a treatment. Since I have long hair and do not like to cut it often, they suggested a Kerastase treatment which was a $35 upcharge but definitely worth the money. I've had one in the past and not only does it smell so good but it makes your hair feel so silky smooth. Knowing I was sensitive to cutting my long hair Sunshine did not pressure me into cutting but blew out my hair and then showed me how my ends were pretty thin so I trusted her to give me a trim and I couldn't be happier. My color looks fabulous and my hair certainly looks so much thicker and healthier after the cut. I'd consider myself a moderately picky person and Salon 718 definitely exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend salon 718. I have natural hair, tight coils and curls, Aiyana, did an amazing job on straightening my hair. I drove in from the jersey shore area and was very, very late, Aiyana still accommodated my Saturday morning appointment (not suggesting anyone be late but it was very nice, I've been turned away at other establishments in the past.) She was very sweet and knowledgeable, informing me of every product she put in my hair with recommendations on what to do to retain more moisture (which was really needed.) I was shampooed, deep conditioned, blown out, trimmed, and straightened. I've had problems in the past with straitening my hair. Two years ago my curls were destroyed from heat damage I received from another salon. I had to big chop for a second time because of the heat damage. I am very pleased to say that my curls bounced right back after I washed my straightened hair and my trimmed curls look absolutely amazing!!! The salon had a great ambiance and the entire staff was very warm and friendly. I will be returning with my mom and I can't wait for her to get the same great treatment and service I did. read more

This is HANDS DOWN the BEST salon that I've ever been to. To start, the staff is very friendly and welcoming. I came in for a cut and color, but I wasn't exactly sure about how I wanted to go about doing it. I had never colored my hair before, and the last cut I got was HORRIBLE. Thankfully, the staff guided me through the whole appointment despite my nervousness. . Although the salon was busy Michaella still took out the time to figure out my needs. I am an African American, and I have really curly hair. I was worried that my cut might come out too short, or that my blow-out would damage my hair. Fortunately, they were neither. For the color they used an ammonia free dye, which helps because I'm not really keen to hair maintenance . My cut was specific to me, which, as a curly girl first, is really important. My blowout was amazing as well. I felt like a celebrity by the time I got up to leave. The prices are SUPER reasonable. You get the service and treatment of a high-end salon for less. read more

This Salon is the greatest! I have curly hair and it has always been a task to find someone that understands this untamed mane. Michaella knows hair no matter the texture. I've always kept my layers simple, and color black, but she made me a new woman...literally! You walk in and she asks you what you'd like, and she knows exactly what to do, even when you're confused or on the fence about your style. I changed my hair color to brown, and I never went back. And I got bangs, which I always thought was impossible with curly hair. And since going here, everyone loves my curls, my blow-outs (which last for a week and a half....all natural) and my color. It's always hard to trust someone new with your hair...I know I'm always nervous in any salon seat, but with the cozy environment, and friendly employees, you honestly feel at home and safe to let this lady take over and make you absolutely beautiful! read more

I love Salon 718!!!! The staff is incredibly friendly and skilled, and the salon is beautiful. I have thick curly bi-racial hair, that needed to be cut and styled. My stylist for the day was Aiyanna and she was absolutely wonderful. Before she even put scissors to my hair she asked a bunch of questions about my hair, how I styled, what I liked about it, what I didn't like about it etc. She really took the time out to get a feel for what my hair was like before proceeding with the appointment. What I loved the most was that she cut my hair when it was dry and shaped it again when it was wet, which is excellent for curly girlies, since we wear our hair dry anyway! Overall I LOVED the end results, my haircut is amazing and my experience was even better! If you are on the fence about trying salon 718.....Go For It. You won't be disappointed! I have to add my two cents about Salon 718 because I have no idea how anyone could give it a bad review. I've been going to this salon for years and I've gotten so many compliments on my hair. And, I've opted for many, many different styles. Or rather, Michaella has suggested many, many different styles. I like how she keeps it fresh, but also listens to what I want, and doesn't push unnecessary products on me. Michaella has been in this business for a long time and is one of the few hairstylists who can cut/style anyone's hair: long, short, straight, curly, kinky. Basically, I trust her. I'm never nervous about what will happen to my hair at Salon 718 because I know that when I leave, it will look really good. I can not recommend her and this salon any more highly. I know there seems to be a really negative experience on this review page from Jessica, and I cannot believe she had such a lousy experience at Salon 718! I am sorry you did, did you try talking to the owner? I have such a great opinion of them...so much so I travel out from Manhattan to Dekalb to get a snip! The owner is so lovely to me, Michaella, and I always implicitly trust my hair to her expertise. I have yet to walk out of Salon 718 and not receive a gush of compliments! Seriously.... I cannot wait to get my hair cut by them again. I have had Sunshine style my hair before, she's equally gifted with color, and Karina who gave me really great highlights. I have been wanting to color my hair for a while now so I started to do some research on which salon to go to. I found Andrealewis & Shameless Maya channel on youtube where they visited salon718. Their hair cut and color looked amazing so I decided to try the salon out. I'm happy that I did and I definteley look forward to going back. Michaela was my stylist and she's also the owner. I wasn't really sure what color I wanted but I trusted Michaela and I loved the result of my highlight and cut. I got a lot of compliments :) Brenda who is the receptionist is so sweet. I had an issue with my bank card and Brenda and Michaela were so sweet and were very patient and understanding. I am not from New York but I interned there this summer and lived in Brooklyn so I had to get my hair done at some point. I really don't like going to new salons because it never works out well for me, but my friend suggested Salon 718 so I decided to give it a try. I had no idea what to expect, but I fell in love with the place and the owner as soon as I arrived!! All of the staff was attentive, the decor is gorgeous, and I left with a great new style :)... I usually wear my hair straight, but I decided to curl it and it turned out just how I wanted it. I posted a picture of my new hair and within 10 minutes I was shocked at how many positive comments I received. I was a little hesitant because I wasn't sure if they were good at handling male hair, but Leah gave me a perfect cut in record timing! I was reading some of the other reviews and coudn't believe that some were unhappy with their experience, but then I came across the filtered section with many more reviews that were all positive... Salon 718 is the best hair salon that I have ever been to! Ever since college, I have been looking for a hair dressor who would cut my hair to fit my features, my style and my personality. Micheala is an amazing hair dressor! She gracefully combines function with fashion. I often receive compliments on my haircut (even from strangers) and yet it doesn't take much time to style. I have been going to Salon 718 for 4 years from when they were at the garden floor of a brownstone on Bergen Street to now, when they have three locations, in Fort Greene, Prospect Heights, and Clinton Hill. I have been seeing Sunshine for hair color and Karena for haircuts since I began as a customer. They are great stylists and great people, as is the rest of the staff. They have a great intuitive sense for what color and cuts work with my hair, and prices are reasonable for a quality salon in Brooklyn. Highly recommend. read more

Michaela and Sunshine do wonders. I have a loyal client since the end of 2010. My last stylist I went to for 10 years...he always gave me good cuts, touched up the roots...the basics but the one thing he never taught me was HOW TO TAKE CARE OF my hair. Not Curly Hair Friendly/Price Differed from Quoted Price…read more I went to Color Haven two weeks ago and had my hair highlighted by Rina, the owner and sole stylist there. The price she charged me for my crown highlights differed by almost $40 from the price she told me two weeks earlier when I went in for a price quote. When I asked about the difference, she flared and said I'd used her electricity drying my hair. She had earlier said: "most of my curly clients leave with their hair wet." Unfortunately, I cannot do that in the winter plus I wanted her to see the highlights when they were dry. My hair did take a little over an hour to dry but I did it myself with her heat lamp and blow dryer, using my own styling products. Unfortunately, she does not have a bonnet dryer which is what really speeds up curly hair drying time. We had even previously discussed how long my hair took and she scheduled me early in the day so she could do other customers while I tended to it myself. I also cleaned the floor of hair when I was done. To say that I felt bad afterwards is an understatement and we did not even discuss how my highlights turned out. I sometimes do freelance work and the price I quote a client is the price I charge them. If I want to change the price, I will do it the next time we work together and explain why in advance. And I certainly don't flare in anger at a customer who asks politely about the change in price.
