My appointment in person went really well, everyone once nice and friendly, no issues. After it was all done and blow dried it looked great, so I couldn't tell how it really was cut.. I have long thick hair , easy to maintain, and wanted to just trim a few inches and add some layering. However, once I washed my hair and styled it I realized this was probably one if the worst haircuts I have ever gotten. The ends were just chopped away which make my hair look like a broom ends. They should have been feathered and gradually cut. It's looks awful I'm so disappointed, as this was not a cheap haircut. I have to fix it.... waste of money. read more

I dropped in for a bang trim, and thought it was expensive ($15) and poorly done. I asked for a trim, with the bottom a little choppier. Instead, the stylist (Concetta) cut my bangs in a new shape, with the ends longer on the side. She also -thinned out- my bangs with a tool that was not scissors (something like a razor?). It felt like a shortcut to deliver 'choppy,' and ultimately missed its goal. I understand it's difficult to really get a feel for how the haircut will look while you're in the salon chair, but there were a few things about my experience that did not sit well. The stylist felt rushed and absent. When she was done and I was evaluating my new trim, I commented that it looked thin and tried to suggest some dry shampoo to make the bangs 'fluffier.' She sprayed a little, but didn't really examine any difference. She didn't notice the hair left on my face from the trim, until I tried to dust it off myself (after which, she handed me a towel). And when we were done, she told me I should grow my bangs long (essentially, change my hairstyle). A good stylist is communicative to understand your vision before, during, and after the cut. My stylist clearly didn't get what I wanted before the cut, she did a poor job with the actual hair cut, and didn't see that I was dissatisfied afterwards. Other than the haircut, the service here was fine- they offer you something to drink. Ultimately, it's the cut and cost that matter to me, neither of which I was happy with. read more

Came for a yelp elite event and I had one of the best experiences. Everything from scheduling an appointment down to the haircut was perfect. Service was excellent. I was offered beverages upon arrival and constantly checked on to ensure I was comfortable. I was originally scheduled for 6:30 but Karina was assisting another customer and told me she would be ready for me around 6:45 PM. The first thing she asked me was how many inches I would like to cut and I replied 3 inches. Karina asked me to show her with my hands approximately how many three inches was because "everyone has a different definition of 3 inches". I recently went to Salon 718 needing a trim and a fix for an undercut I was growing out. I also had some damage from previous hair treatments. I have difficult, frizzy hair and it's hard for me to find a style that works for me. I felt very welcome when I walked in and they gave me a cup of coffee. The staff was all very friendly. After explaining what I was thinking, my stylist Sachi suggested a style I hadn't even considered: a bit shorter in the back with some layers, to get the back as close as possible to the length of the undercut without having the front be shorter than shoulder-length (which I didn't want). She also gave me lots of advice on how to style my hair at home to reduce frizz. The shampoo/conditioning was also basically a scalp massage which was extremely relaxing. My hair is a much more manageable shape now and I love the haircut. Overall I am very happy with my experience and will return when I need another haircut. Came here for a cut with Jonathan and had an excellent experience. I was LONG overdue for a cut, on account of the fact that my old salon gave me a horrible cut and bleached my hair within an inch of its life, so I was a little nervous to trust anyone new. I was immediately put at ease by Jonathan, who took the time to talk to me about my hair history, feel my hair, hear about what I was looking to do and make suggestions before I ever got sent for a shampoo. He suggested I take off about an inch more than I was intending in order to keep my hair healthy, and I trusted his expertise. I got exactly the cut I wanted, plus some suggested changes from him (which he always consulted with me first!). The result was a lot of long, bouncy, natural looking layers that really complement my face. The blowout he gave me was also excellent and was remarkably fast considering how much hair I have. Worth every penny! I dropped by the salon for a blowout and a cut. Karina Mauro took me right away. She is knowledgeable and personal. I left looking AMAZING, if I may so so myself. Well, less than 24 hours, my hair returned to it's cotton candy state-- humidity in NYC is no joke this time of year. I went back to the salon, a crestfallen cotton ball. Although she was clearly super-busy, Karina sat me down and re-did my hair, even seeking advice from other stylists on how to get my blow out to stay blown out. When looking for the right hair salon, I trusted Yelp reviews to be honest and updated, so it's only fair I update my previous review. While I loved the experience, ambiance and stylists of Salon 718 while I was there, I'm not smitten any more. ***I did not call the salon to tell them about my experience and am not angry, however, I have since moved to a different salon that best fits my hair needs. I don't expect compensation, consultation or a follow up from this review.*** I am extremely grateful for Karina's advice on how to care and style thinner, wavy/curly, hair and her caution against a few famous brands as she had personally experienced poor results. I'm still following her styling recommendations. However, I'm not as grateful for the service received and cost paid. My balayage faded and became brassy after week three, despite the salon-quality color safe shampoo and conditioner I've used (with quality full-head dye jobs) in the past. I used an additional ($$) conditioner purchased from Salon 718 per their instructions and it didn't make a difference in my then 3 x as frizzy, color faded hair. I could have called or gone in to the salon and instead chose not to pursue these options. When having my hair re-balayaged two months later, a stylist commented on the numerous colors and toners applied to my hair, pointing out they were to blame for my then-reddish color. I'd waited two months to have it re-done as I was nervous about adding more bleach to my previously damaged hair-- I know and understand it may not have faded as poorly had I had it touched up within the 6 week period recommended by Salon 718. I now believe the cost of the services rendered should have been lower, as the quality was not as expected. read more

This is review of both the salon, its employees, and their pricing. Let me start by saying that I love this salon, it makes me feel at home every time I go there. I have an amazing time and come out of the salon feeling beautiful and taken cared of. They use amazing products and the staff is incredible! The coloring they do is wonderful. I have only wonderful things to say about their work. Now, I don't mind paying for work that is being done to my hair. I understand the neighborhood and work calls for an expensive price. I am fine with that, BUT, the last time I was there my stylist gave me a TRIM, literally. No styling, not a new haircut or style, nothing serious and I was charged the full price of a haircut, a whopping almost $90. For a TRIM. That is not okay by me, there should be a different charge for a trim, something more reasonable. This is not at all on the stylist or the staff, but is on the owner. I love the salon and my stylist, but practices like this are a big turn off. read more

I recently moved to the area and have been extremely nervous about getting my hair done. After doing a lot of research, I decided to get my hair done at salon 718. After being there from 10 am - 2 pm and then going back for it to be fixed from 3:30-5 pm, I spent my whole day there to leave with uneven, botched blonde hair. I've been getting highlights for 8 years, typically waiting 3 months between each appointment. This time, I pushed it to 4 (which I've done a few times before) because I just moved to the area, got a new job and was also nervous about getting it done. If you have blonde hair, save yourself the trouble. Don't drop 250 for hair worse than you walked in with. Probably one of the most unfriendly experiences I've had. My hairdresser didn't say two words to me the entire time and didn't seem to want to be there. I didn't notice it until I got home but my hair was cut extremely uneven and choppy at the bottom (similar to another reviewers post below). I haven't had this sloppy of a haircut in years. The front pieces of my hair were chopped so short and uneven it's embarrassing. The blow dry was also quick and my roots were still wet underneath when I got home. It was way too expensive for this type of experience, I won't be going back. I was in and out in 30 minutes...quickest experience ever but not in a good way. read more
