This review is long overdue! I moved to nearby Blue Island in 2013 and was driving to Orland Park for a hair cut. The lady who used to cut my hair suddenly quit and I was left out in the cold. I turned to Yelp and found excellent reviews for Salon a Go-Go so I made an appointment and have been a client since then! Melissa cuts my hair and always does an amazing job at a reasonable price. I am sure I drive her crazy with my demands but she is never fazed. I work downtown and constantly asked where I get my haircut... people are disappointed when I tell them it is out in the burbs. I love Melissa so much that I even started bringing my daughter to her for her hair. Melissa has waxed, cut and dyed us and always does a fantastic job. I tried to trim my daughter's hair with some clippers and she vehemently said only Melissa can touch her hair. Salon is very well kept and clean. Val is wonderful as well as she keeps busy and is always cleaning or doing something. Part of me didn't want to post this review as I didn't want my secret to get out but Melissa deserves to have oodles and oodles of clients! read more

I have been going to Melissa with my girls for years. Always accommodating to the three of us together. The salon is adorable and staff is so sweet and welcoming, you will leave feeling like family. Not your average salon setting AT ALL! But all the style and quality of any high-end salon. The last time I was there, I mentioned I had some neck pain... Melissa recommended that Laura do a massage. I had no idea she has a licensed massage therapist on staff available! And she was amazing! A short 15 minute massage was an amazing treat away while my girls had their hair cut. Looking for a one stop shop then this is the place! First of all Lauren is an amazing colorist! I could not be happier with my color! I receive compliments daily, I have finally found a great colorist who knows her stuff and is knowledgeable about all of the products they offer. Before you get your hair done I would recommend a facial from Lauren. My skin looks and feels amazing for weeks afterwards! Salon a Go-Go offers other great services as well. I've been going to Melissa for over 10 years and will not let another soul touch, color, highlight, cut and style my hair!! She and her assistant Val always greet me as soon as I walk in the door with hello's and smiles, ( Like Norm in Cheers :)) They are part of a family that cant be replaced! You know when you watch a movie and there's a scene in the barber shop/salon and all the people are talking to each other and think how great is that! Well, that's how it is at Salon a Go Go! Every month when I come for my visit, I meet, share stories, show pictures on my phone with strangers because that's the type of atmosphere at this Salon, it feels like your having a day out with friends. Ever since I met Melissa I knew she was the girl to do my hair, I made her promise that if she ever left that salon and didn't tell me I would hunt her down and kill her :) Her promised was kept and contacted me when opening her very own salon ..... That's a trust that's hard to find. Ever Since I have been going to her and even though she sells product in her Salon has not once ever pushed a product for me to purchase. She has always referred products at other stores for cheaper that I use for in between visits ( touch ups), products and styling tools and never gives me a hair cut unless she feels its needed. Can get more trust worthy then that! She's not just a hair stylist but becomes a great friend over the years! You'd be a fool not to try this Salon. read more

I found this salon looking through Yelp, not searching reviews, but looking for salons in my area. From the moment I called I was treated like someone that had been going there for years. I've been to many different salons in my life from $10 super cuts to $350.00 color jobs. I'm 36 years old and have never had an experience that made me decide to stay with a beautician/salon until now. I was taken care of by Melissa (owner) for a consultation, and Claire for my color service. I have NEVER been more pleased. My hair was 150 % to my satisfaction. If you're looking for somewhere to get a cut or color or style and are one of those people who are a little nervous because you've had a bad experience before or unsure because you need it "just right" for an occasion, these are your girls! The salon has its own personal, unique decor that gives a fun story of its own. It's NOT the same ole: "hi, how are you....let me talk to you while I cut your hair cause that's my job...." routine. These girls give impeccable service, are professional, and genuinely fun and friendly. 1st of all I walked in more then twice, 2nd I didn't ask to get it done right then and there I asked do u have this day or this day or this day, 3rd I didn't demand my money for gift certificate I said can I have the money for gift certificate so I can go somewhere else, 4th I waited outside ur salon got oil changed waiting for u to open and guess what ur hours don't match the brochure or any other place ur not open Saturday and 5th my sister came in to get highlights on a Monday and magically it didn't take 2-3 weeks she got in that friday....hmmmmm Yeah u deserve a very negative review if there was worse id give it to u....if u can't handle volume of business u shouldn't have a business it's fine I have steered people away from ur salon....ur loss read more

Worth the drive and having to schedule in advance! I drive more than an hour to get to Melissa and would drive double that for the service, expertise, value, quality I've come to rely on Melissa for. In the more than 10 years I've been going to her, she's kept me looking good, suggested interesting ways to update my style, worked with me when I wanted a change and stayed true to my needs on every occasion. BTW, the Brazilian Blow Out CHANGED MY LIFE! I'm a no-fuss, low-maintenance girl and she knew it would give that freedom AND make me look like a slaved over my look. And cuz my pet peeve is folks who use Yelp to unfairly give low ratings to GREAT people like Melissa, I feel compelled to comment on the bozo who gave her 1 star. Following your format: First, SHE NEVER EVEN TOUCHED YOUR HAIR SO YOU ARE COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED TO RATE HER. Second, you don't "walk in" to an establishment unless you expect to be given immediate service, so I don't buy that you didn't expect to get in right there and then -- you clearly know how to use technology as you went online to leave this bogus review, so you should have CALLED ON A PHONE like a normal person would have done. 3rd, anyone who has the balls to ask for their money back from a gift card is DEMANDING their money back. Again, BOGUS! 4th, Melissa doesn't list hours on her brochure, so there's literally no way they don't match what she has posted. And she clearly posts that she's not open on Saturday -- you just can't read. 5th, the fact that your sister got in for highlights without having to wait 2-3 weeks completely negates all of your above arguments. So, hmmmmm, yeah, you clearly suffer from delusions, further evidenced by your lack of understanding that any professional whose services are sought after require advance notice for appointments. Only newbies and those who are less than stars at their craft are able to accomodate walk-ins. FINALLY: seeing that EVERY OTHER REVIEW is 5 stars, it couldn't be more obvious that this is a case of "one of these things just doesn't belong here, can you guess which one it is?"
