I had my hair cut earlier today by Jazz at Salon Amarian. I'm a "snowbird" from the Midwest with fine, thin hair and had been fighting my last haircut for a few weeks. Because of positive reviews, I decided to take a chance on Jazz and Salon Amarian. When I arrived at the salon, Jazz talked me through his evaluation of my prior haircut and then proceeded to fix it. He explained what he was doing and why with each step and turned a bad situation into a positive result. I couldn't be more pleased with my new haircut. I was visiting my mom from out of town and had been unhappy with my haircut for a really long time. Mom wanted a trimtrim too, So I went on yelp to search for options. Salon Amarian was the only salon open at the time I was looking (9 am) so I gave her a call. They were able to get us both in that afternoon and we were delighted with the experience. Dorian did a fantastic job on my mom's hair cut it -- super cute and short for summer. Angeline (I think!) updated my do and made me love my cut once again. Amazing how small changes can make a big difference. We hosted a happy hour gathering later that day and all the ladies wanted to know where mom had gone, so we referred them all to Salon Amarian! read more

I am back in Mesa for the winter and low and behold the salon is under new ownership. My previous stylist Autumn is no longer working here so I got an appointment with Courtney. She did an excellent cut and color and I was very pleased with her work. By my third appointment Courtney had left the salon. I was really disappointed. The owner, Dawn, cut my hair and she did a great job. I'm going back for color and hope I finally have found a stylist who isn't going to leave. read more

Walked in and got an appointment for the next day. Jazz listened to what I wanted done and cut just enough off to give my hair the new bounce it needed. He also recommended products that I could use on my fine hair to keep it looking fuller without pressure to buy. Will definitely recommend this salon to friends. read more

UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP...ALL NEW STYLISTS. I went in for a haircut. I hadn't had a cut in about 6 months. I found out that the owner and my stylist were now gone. There is a new owner, named Dawn, and new staff as of June 2016. When talking to the young stylist about my hairstyle and what I normally get. She didn't understand. I asked for a feather cut or long layered cut. She just starred at me. She didn't seem to understand. Deer in the headlights. The new owner walked over, but didnt want to cut my hair, even though she said she knew what a feather cut was. As she was trying to explain to the young stylist what kind a cut it was and how to do it, I was getting very nervous. The new owner finally said, I will just cut her hair. She seemed a bit annoyed. But she reassured me that she knew the type of 80s cut and style I wore. Since the owner was older, closer to my age, 45, I assumed she knew what she was doing. OH BOY! WAS I WRONG! She cut my hair in minutes. I had a lot of layers that grew out, so I didn't think she could be done that quick. But, she styled my hair quickly with a blow dryer and used a hair product, so I thought, maybe once I get home and wash and style myself, it will look good. AGAIN, WAS I WRONG! She forgot to cut and layer the left side of my head and the rest of my hair was so jacked up and uneven, I was speechless. It was SO uneven. About a 1 and 2 inch difference all around. Even my husband and friends could tell how jacked up my hair was without me saying anything. It was the worst haircut I EVER got. If I gave a 5 yr old scissors, he would do a better job then this owner did. I seriously can't believe she even has a license to cut hair. Really! I had to go to someone else the next day for an emergency fix to my hair. The hairdresser that fixed my hair couldn't believe how uneven my haircut was. She said I should report this lady. The hairdresser that fixed my hair had to cut so much off, to even it out, that now I have above the shoulder length hair. A style and length I don't wear. But I understand she had to cut so much off to fix and even the layers. I'm so PISSED off. My beautiful long hair and style is gone, at least until it grows out. I'm forced to wear a style and cut that isn't me all because this lady can't cut hair. DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE. read more

Stopped in for a quick trim, and they were fabulous! Staff was great, knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating. Dorian was very helpful on giving me tips about doing my hair, and even asked me to be a hair model for an Ombre hair session for her staff! I said yes after seeing pics that she has done. Had used two different people here and they were both good but not dependable. Salon is now under new ownership. Both previous stylists are gone (needed to be as they were both deadbeats even though they were great stylists). so I tried again and got Courtney. My short hair cut friend used her and loved her hair. So I tried her and she did a great job on mine. She takes her time and is very precise. I have a second appointment tomorrow. Right now I'm not very happy with the service. I called yesterday to confirm my appointment with Dorian, since she has been a no-show on previous appointments. I left a message but did not get a call back one way or the other. I showed up and she didnt - once again. I will not go back. This is not how you treat loyal customers or run a business!!!! read more

LADIES WANT YOUR HAIR BUTCHERED/BURNED??!!! Then keep reading.. If I could give this place a negative star I would!!! I came all the way from North Phoenix to have a day at the salon with my best friend and I will never return to this Mesa salon again!! Not only was my haircut and color done poorly by Tatiana Yvette Tapia but when this situation was brought to the attention of the owner, Dorian Forbes, I received the worst customer service ever. Dorian agreed to refund my money the same day I complained but then never followed through. Several weeks went by without receiving any call backs about the refund despite multiple messages on my part. I decided to finally make the long drive (45mins) on a Friday afternoon to confront her directly to get my full refund and guess what?! She only refunded HALF with the excuse being that she did not believe my complaints!! Dorian made me feel uncomfortable with her lack of professionalism and aggressive attitude. Her excuses for not giving me the full refund multiplied from there - not having my phone number, her receiving a message from my cell phone saying I was unavailable, her being so-so busy with appointments (both times I've been there her salon has been empty), and her most recent excuse being that I didn't give her a chance to try to fix or see the poor results which is funny because my appointment was originally booked with her. Dorian passed me along to her entry-level stylist, Tatiana, who has multiple complaints (reference a Google+ review). I would never go back or refer this salon to anyone! I've seen better service, cuts/styles and color done at Beauty Schools than this salon! read more

At first I was really impressed with Salon Amarian but after 3 appointments that weren't kept on their part I had finally had enough. Being old school I thought having an appointment meant that a hairdresser would see you within a few minutes of your appointed time. Alas, this is not to be a Salon Amarian. The following incidents have happened in a span at about 6 months. 1st incident the customer before me came a half hour late for her appointment and someone didn't tell the hair dresser of the actual customer's time (or so they said). I ended up waiting just about an hour past my appointment for my service. 2nd incident the hair dresser didn't even come in for the appointed time or even the whole day. After waiting an hour while numerous calls and text messages were sent by her colleagues we changed our appointment to the next day. 3rd incident my husband and I made an appointment for a certain day and time and when we arrived on time the hair dresser was working on another customer. We were asked to wait 20 minutes while she got done with her customer. I could tell just by looking at what was going on this was not a 20 minute ordeal. After waiting an hour and ten minutes later, we walked out. As we were leaving we said we were just going to call and make another appointment. But after leaving the salon I got angrier about waiting so much. There is no way I want to go through all that waiting again so this salon has lost two customers because of how they schedule their time with walk-ins and scheduled patrons. My time is too valuable to be wasting it by sitting a watching someone else get their hair done. read more
