I have been going for two years and I won't go anywhere else! I only speak English so Hannah is my hairstylist and she knows me well. Before my wedding she added keratin for extra shine and advised a root perm plus the waves starting at my chin instead of the root for easy styling on the day-of. During the neutralization of the chemicals, she gave me a heating pad because she knows I get cold when it touches my scalp :) Digital perm: I have medium to thick, straight hair and it takes on average 4.5-5 hours for a digital perm, wash, and hair cut no matter the length. I've done a bob all the way to waist length. The largest barrel gives a natural wave and it looks better when I air dry. Price: it's changed every time I've gone for the same thing- $185, $216, $312, and $375. If you can afford, it's worth it every time. I only get a refresh every six months and, with the largest barrel, I can grow it out without concerns for the look of lacking perm upkeep. My husband got a men's cut for $65, but his hair is below the armpit and it makes sense he would be charged more than the menu. Summary: high-end, but worth it! read more

I asked for very loose and wavey digital perm that's super popular in Korea! I had stick straight hair before & was a little too scared to try a tighter curl. Pics show my hair when it's still slightly damp and NOT even styled - I imagine it'd look even better if I had used a diffuser and some texture cream. I got exactly what I asked for, a natural beachy wave that makes me feel and look effortless. Obviously a little damage is to be expected with any perm, but they did their best to minimize that by using a keratin treatment. My hair still feels soft and healthy. Highly recommend! read more

Having recently moved to the SoCal area, I had high hopes for Salon Ara due to the reviews I saw on Google. It's unfortunate that my visit did not reflect the reviews that I had read up on. I'm normally not the type to leave negative reviews as I enjoy only leaving positive ones. However, the end result of my men's haircut was extremely unsatisfactory, especially given the $40 charge. Before beginning, I showed a picture of what I wanted to the stylist. The length of my hair was way too short to resemble the picture that I had shown in the picture and the stylist was styling my hair as best she could with the very short front hair that remained, albeit she was styling it in quite some peculiar manners which I think may be in part because the end result just turned out bad. However, the fact that the style of my hair was not what I had asked for was not my biggest gripe. I've had haircuts before where it turns out differently than what I had asked for and usually I will just suck it up and try to style it as best I can when I get home. What truly prompted me to write this review was the lack of quality in my cut that I am noticing as I take a closer look at my hair. The fade on the sides are not uniform and look a bit patchy and even the edges of the fade on my sideburns are not clean but instead have an area of very light amount of hair - I am unsure why this was left as it's pretty standard to clean up the sideburns and to give it a clear edge. And as I have put my hair down as close as I could to the style I had asked for originally, I am finding long strands of hair that are significantly longer than the hair in that same area, so much so that I have had to take scissors at home and cut it myself. I understand that though frustrating for the customer, sometimes the style of the haircut does not come out as they had asked for (although in this case, the stylist went so short I'm not sure what they were trying to do). But again, for a $40 cut with tip, the fact that the stylist could not execute things that are quite standard has led me to leave this review of my very subpar experience at Salon Ara. Because there were multiple hair stylists at the salon, I can not speak for the salon as a whole. However, I hope that the stylist that worked on my hair will take this feedback to improve on their skills and to be mindful of some basic things in a haircut. I will not be returning back to Salon Ara as I do believe that the hired stylists should reflect the salon's standard of excellence in their work. read more

I went to have a trim and a straight cut and ended up with a really short hair and layers on the back that are uneven. got a haircut a couple days ago and it's now my go-to for haircuts! i think hanah was my stylist and she did such a good job. she was very good about asking for pictures of what i wanted my hair to look like and how i wanted exactly. the main thing that i wanted to do was to make my curtain bangs more wispy and trim off my dead ends and hanah executed it perfectly. i also wanted a bang perm that i had seen on tiktok to give them more volume and a curl and it still looks good today. the prices are especially good for orange county; i have long hair so a haircut was $55 and the bang perm was only $10. highly recommend! read more

Horrible. I came in for a money piece, i wanted Carmel brown with gold highlight. Came out with orange uneven hair color, I had it brownish black but thats why I asked if it could be achieved and she said yes. I would not have paid 130 for orange hair and not even a lot of hair this was like 2 strands of hair. My mom got hers done too and they messed up, didn't even try. She got highlights half way not even full. They treated almost like they didn't want to service us. And holy crap 180 to dye hair? Plus another 130 for bleach? Wtf? I came out with orange hair in tears. I still tipped her 10 because that's just me. Don't go there for highlights. They don't know anything about hair coloring. The thing about hair salons is that you want to build a rapport. It's more than a simple cutting of hair or shaving of heads... it's a relationship. The longer you stick to a place, you begin to development a bond with your hair stylist - you develop your own lingo of how to describe things so that you can always get what you really want - even when you want to drastically change your style. It is this relationship, consistency,m that will ultimately get you to what people say about a good haircut: you don't even notice you got one. And I've found my place with Salon Ara. Tucked away behind a Burger King, I've been going to my main lady Kay for almost 2.5 years, basically since moving to Tustin. And she has my style down like a science. I don't event have to say anything unless I want to change something. Plus at $20 a haircut, this is perfect blend of quality and affordability. Some people say $20 is expensive - I'm sorry, you can stick to your #2 full fade at Supercut if you want, but if you want this kind of rapport, it'll cost you more. And $20 is a good deal. Tip: don't get confused with the salon next door. Make sure you go to the one on the left next to the laundromat. The other one (from what I hear) pulled some shady move to position themselves there. By 11:20 I realized that there are only two people working and more customers than workers. I was feeling annoyed because what's the point in making an appt if you aren't seen on time. Kay is wonderful!! I've been bringing my 4 kids to see her for almost a year. I decided to give her a try myself and loved the cut! My bangs look good and when I told her I wanted a trim she didn't cut too much of the length. She even offered to curl it for me. This is my favorite salon...even my sister and kids think so too. They are so friendly and make you feel comfortable. Their prices are reasonable.
